Our BMW broke down last year on the ferry ramp on a visit to the UK (we live in Normandy) Clutch went. We were on holiday and needed a car. Bought one of these for just under a grand. Low mileage, tidy condition. Great little car. We didn't bother fixing the BMW (dreadful thing) and kept this. It is brilliant.
@@HighPeakAutos Yep. In the end, especially with cars, you have to be philosophical about these things. It worked out well in the end. probably saved us lots of expense down the line with the other one.
@@andyhillhouse9813 Not really. We have had several RHD cars in France. I have got used to it and it doesn't bother me. We have re-registered it with French plates. No problem. In fact i'd probably find it harder driving a LHD as I would find myself doing everything with the wrong hand and it would feel very odd!
I had a 1.4 back in the early 2000s. Bit gutless compared to the 1.6 but a cracking car nevertheless. I now drive a Mk4 Honda Jazz Hybrid. I've worked out my age using your formula and I will be celebrating my 147th birthday later this year.
That's my first car. Lovely thing. Honestly that 1.6 VTEC is the best engine in any car I have ever owned. Loves to rev, refined at low speeds and extremely economical for its aged. Can easy get 40+ mpg on a long run. Absolute bargain for a new owner.
Totally agree. I had the pre-facelift model - 53 plate. Terrific to drive, really easy. Gear stick postion brilliant, as Matt says. Beautifully sweet engine, the 1.6 VTEC, and always started first time. Loads of room. Easy to work on, too! Weren't these the last of the Civics to have independent rear suspension?
@@piovo1 I understand lower MPG on motorway in very small displacement engines, it's simples you have to rev higher to maintain the speed, i.e. at 80mph you are probably looking 3.5-4k RPM for a 1.4tsi vs ~2.2k RPM on my 3.0i BMW
I bought a 1.7 diesel 5 door with 65,000 miles. Ran for years , sold to my friend as a stop gap at 130,000 miles. 5 years later it’s still running fine at 200,000 miles ! Best ever mpg was 68 travelling 100 miles down the A49. What more needs to be said. A cracking car.
I’ve got a 3 door one of these as my commuter (100 mile round trip) and hasn’t put a foot wrong in 20k so far. With the price of diesel these days I think you really can’t go wrong with the 1.6 petrol doing 40+ mpg all day long, with the added bonus of no nasty repair bills due to the simplicity of them!
I always referred to the slightly darker 'Classic' tan or 'off brown' leather, beloved of top end BMW, Alfa, Ferrari et al as Diarrhea Brown. I would love to interview the first buyer of these puke inducing automotive outcasts to find out what was in their head when they ordered the bloody thing at the dealership. You know, the moment the sales guy shows you the leather swatches of trim colour and what? you think, Great just like the last time I wiped my arse, I'll take it... When some poor sod has to sell it used, you can always spot them as they're £1k cheaper than anything else - and for good reason... Sorry just saying!
My dad has had his 2004 1.6 auto exec since it was 5 years old and 43k miles. He's been changing it now for the last 5 years, but never does. It's been pretty faultless, but has been kept garaged for the last 14 years so no rust, it actually looks just as good as it did in 2009. Kate Bush is a legend ☺️
I love this show and it always surprises me of the low valuation of used cars in UK. In Canada, even a slightly dented and scraped 18 year old Honda would be worth much more than £500 ($837 CAD). And one like this with low mileage, service history and a high spec would certainly warrant that small body repair, as the seller could easily get their money back.
Great video as usual. It's not the main reason I watch them, but one of the spin-off benefits of High Peak videos is an ongoing education into the vast number of shonky tyre brands I've never heard of that people fit to aging motors. Just thought I'd share...
I must be unusual in that I’ll buy a 130k mile Alfa for 20p and then spend £1000 on a wheel refurb and a set of Michelins. 😂 I couldn’t drive on some of these Chinese ditchfinders like Fate-O Cauliflowers or whatever.
I’m glad you are highlighting the VAT impact on your profit margin Matt. Maybe it’s also worth mentioning your possible on going liability if you retail the car . My concern is that some people will look at the gross profit to be made and view it as easy money which we all know is not the case . As always an enjoyable video 👍
There is liability which people don't account for, correct, but at the end of the day, alot of dealers offer what is below par offers for cars given in part exchange because they know sellers would rather it be done and dusted. Alot of the time you the offers you see dealers make are almost insulting unless the car is almost brand new. All in all, dealers cannot complain about issues/problems they come across as they more often than not are getting bargains which they make big profits on which more than make up for the odd lemon
@@Vaguepaperchasing yeah I know it is, that’s what I’m saying. Dealers can’t complain about receiving in dodgy cars because they buy them well under value in the first place and will flip a profit on most.
I’ve been the owner of a number of plush company cars and I can say with a high degree of confidence that this MK7 Honda Civic 1.6 is the best car I have ever driven. Nearly 20 years ownership, over 100k mileage and the engine hasn’t missed a beat. I agree totally with review apart from the age bit - I’m in my mid 40s! Phenomenal car.
God, this takes me back. First car I ever bought, the short first gear was a bloody nightmare for a first time driver, the clutch was really snappy and the turning circle was worse than a fire engine. But it was absolutely bulletproof and great fun to drive!
I had one of these. It’s one of the cars I regret selling most. It was almost too reliable. I took it everywhere, even off-roading and it was absolutely rock solid.
Just bought my third one last week, I paid £200 for the last 2002 model, kept it five years only cost me £500 to keep on the road in all that time. Unbeatable in my opinion.
I really enjoyed this one, I was proper routing for the civic as my favourite car growing up was my 04 ep3 civic type r. Very engaging, no nonsense fun. Ran it upto 74k miles and I checked the reg on the car checker and it’s still going at 200k+ miles and passed the MOT no advisories. I’m glad it’s being looked after. It was a great car.
Brilliant Video Matt! I am not a car snob,I’d definitely drive a car like this as I like this model too. I love how Japanese/Korean cars are made. The older I get, the more they appeal.
Great video Matt. I bought a 2008 Honda Civic 1.8 type S with 60,000 mls a couple years ago as a cheap runabout, I've put 40,000mls on it and all it has needed in that time is servicing, tyres, brake pads. Very reliable cars and as you say, you can leave in the supermarket car park or in town and not that bothered if it gets scratched. 46mpg on a long run too 👍
Great review! My octogenarian mother is on her second Honda Civic Executive auto. In fairness she would probably still be on her first which had done 120,000 when I bought her a newer one with 40k ish on it on the basis why change for something wholly different given she loved her old one. She is now up to 65k on the second one. All the features of a quality german executive with bulletproof reliability if properly looked after.
Matt, you missed the OAP telltale of 'heater to the max' ..... my 86 year old mum has a Jazz Crossstar (another way of saying you don't need to bend so far to get in), with climate control permanently set to 24.5C and obligatory Classic FM.
I worked for Honda for years and sold those when they were brand new, (the colour is called Cosmic Grey BTW) the average age of a 5-door Civic Exec buyer back then was probably about 60 so they're generally well-maintained and if looked after mechanically bulletproof. I've never seen an Exec with that colour of interior in the flesh though as 99% of them were ordered black (because the grey one looks rank) so it's probably an ex-demo dumped on a dealer by Honda UK. My Mrs just passed her test on an Auto last year so I got her one in exactly the same age and colour, 40K miles, 1 owner with a full Honda Service History for £1550. It was a bit rough on bodywork like this one but it soon came up good with some G3 and a wheel refurb. It will probably outlast her if she wants to keep it.
I bought a 2003 1.6 with 50,000 on it in 2016 for £500. It's been everywhere. It's been passed on to family members, and now my oldest daughter has it, 140,000 on the clock, and still runs like new. They are great little cars.
Great review. I know a fair bit about these EP civics. Have always been my go to 'In between car' when needing to keep on the road between buying and selling of my personal more expensive car. Absolutely bullet proof. One common issue on the manual is a noisy input shaft gearbox bearing which the majority of them suffer with. It generates a whine but doesn't impede the operation of the gears or driving. Another problem is that the a large number of thees EP model civics are being written off due to their expensive catalytic converters being stolen. Alot of Honda's this age have become targets. You're right about snobs in the UK. It definatley is all the car you need and can be hand for around 1to £2k.
I really appreciate your motoring videos. I'm sick to death of the Top Gears and the Fifth Gear type of programs. I'm not interested in supercars that can only be fully appreciated on a track, I'm not interested in going sideways and 0 to 60 times. Even the Classic Car programs are drooling over cars that were considered crap in their day, Moris Minor, Metros, Hillman Imps, and not forgetting Fast Ford's and the like. I'm not a teenager any more and I did grow up, unlike some. So thank you for talking about Real cars and keeping it informative and interesting.
I "old" and I have a manual gear box because it's fun! Also I'm an American and have a Honda Accord, which is what Civic buyers would get in the U.S. because gas is cheap. My radio station is '60's rock, even though I was a small child then! Civics are great cars.
I work the motorways and in 16yrs i have only had one honda broken down and that was a beaten relic import. They are as reliable as a car can be in my opinion for what its worth.
Just to note these also seem very vulnerable to catalytic converter thefts - there are a lot on the market spares/repairs or salvage just because of cat theft.
Had 5 Civics so far in my lifetime, about to get number 6 ( Civic E HEV Advance ), all have served me well with no major issues. Currently own a FK8, so far my outlay has been 2 tyres, set of wiper blades and rear pads. That's in 4 and a half years.
FYI this is the world’s first galvanised steel production car does not rust anywhere also they never burn oil as all Honda engines have patented piston/bore technology just post ww2 have jewel bearings and are the only massed produced engines that you can install NOS and gain immense power gains without problems. The ageist comments are typical of Europeans as in the rest of the world they are used extensively tuned proving and must be revved very high where the fun starts fantastic car.
I've always loved the mk3 honda civic for the querkiness and styling of it The VTEC systems is a boss when it comes to acceleration keep the videos coming!
Worth keeping in mind for your property business that once you VAT register, you're making less money until you're making about 102k. I'd artificially hold back until you can bridge that 85-102k gap in a single year. I'd also recommend doing Serviced Accommodation with some of your units, you're able to use sideways loss relief so if anything ever goes wonky with the car business, you could offset it because it's self-employed income. Loads of tax breaks for it too like Capital Allowances and being able to write off mortgage interest
I had one of these. A 1.7 diesel. Brilliant car. Only bought it for £500 as a temp but ended up keeping it for 3 years. Then sold it to a student when I went to work abroad. When I came back I wanted to buy it back but the student had written it off. These cars are so easy to drive and maintain, change the oil and filters every six months and it will look after you for you for years.
I found you when searching for Insignia reviews a few weeks ago, and now I'm devouring all your videos. Pretty addicted, thanks for the great content . Lovely little civic here
The new owner is a wise (and I guess wealthy)man Lives in Central London and buys a beater for circa £2k While 1000's who live in the suburbs spent £2k every 4 months keeping up with neighbours on their leased merc.
EP's are awesome Cars with amazing handling, they do tend to rust badly from the inside of the backpanels, because water tends to get trapped in there, take off the speaker covers next too the backseat, shine a light in there and use a mirror, if there's rust/water in there it must be stopped, or it gets really bad.
@@Liam-mt1fg commented before watching the video, then realised it was the 5 door 🙄 we have 5 doors over here but they are rare, mostly it's a 3 door, hence why i jumped into conclusions early.
Been enjoying the others, but this appeals more to me because it's a civic!! Civic's are my second favourite car (the 2000-2005 ones especially) right after the Nissan Qashqai (cash cow) and toyota rav4! (superior car). Edit : Could you do more like cheap toyotas like corolla's and stuff haha (quick request)
Instead of incentives to buy new electric vehicles, this is what would actually be green, and incentive to put a few hundred quid into a car that will keep going another 5-10 years rather than be scrapped. As you say, a shame everyone nowadays just needs the newest, shiniest thing.
Love these videos! I often find myself scrolling through past episodes to try and find one I haven’t already seen but then realise I’ve watched all of them already. Keep them coming!
Matt, thank you for all your videos and your honest, down-to-earth approach to everything. I only wish that you lived near me as I love cars but I'm useless at buying the right one :-) I have lived as an ex-pat in the US for the last 20 years and if only cars here were priced like they are at home. You've given me lots of food for thought, and I look forward to more videos. Thank you
Great car's,I owned the 1.4 and the 2.0 type s 160 bhp, very smooth drive and totally reliable and good mpg. I now own an ep3 type r, fantastic drivers car. Usual faults are rear brake calipers seizing and useless handbrake, also they suffer from rusty inner sills, wheel arches , and the seams on the roof leak which fills the boot with water.
Amazing how I can find a video about a old Civic so entertaining. Been watching Matt since the subscribers were only a couple of hundred. Great to see the channel doing so well. ☺️
Owned one of these on a Y reg for 4 years. SE executive model, Paid £1300 quid for it at the time. Loved it, great car to drive, loads of space. It was the 1.6 vetec which run perfectly despite having moon miles. My ownership sadly ended after the driveshaft snapped (someone had welded it years before and had never been noticed) would own another one tomorrow. Thanks for uploading 😊
Really enjoy it when we see the whole thing, from purchase through renovation to sale. My wife's Honda Accord went for 229,000 miles without any major issues, and we sold it as a going concern after that. Honda's are great cars, as we all know. And you're right. It will go for another ten years with care.
I bought one of these nearly two years ago as a second car/runabout for £1400. A silver 2003/53 pre facelift model in limited edition trim. 75k miles, full documented history and bodywork near mint for its age. I'm really fond of it and can't bring myself to sell it on to be honest. Super sweet engine and gearbox. It's a genuinely fun car to drive - much more so than it's straight laced looks would suggest. VTEC motors do enjoy a good kick. And of course they're we'll built and tightly engineered cars. They really are made to go the distance. To preserve its condition I decided to garage/SORN it over winter so it's not subject to salty roads. BTW oil burn should not be an issue at all on these D series motors unless they have been very neglected. Only thing I've had to do was the front calipers wipers and a light bulb!
The mk8 civic that looks like darth vader came out in 2005 on 55 plate. These early models had faults on them with the fuel flap and the handbrake. My father bought a new 2007 honda civic 1.8 petrol mk8 and still has it with just 34,000 miles on the clock and i have serviced it every year with mobil 1 fully synthetic oil from new. Nothing has gone wrong with it so far, even all the bulbs are still the original and working fine. The mk7 here will be equally as good, if not better im sure.
What a well looked after car by it looks like a mature person who has taken the time & effort to look after it unlike a lot of bone idol folk who don't! Great spec on this & what a bloody good car for someone..great review 👏 👌
Hi mat ive just bought this exact car 1.6 ex ecutive in dark blue with 175000 ,on it full history 1 owner wow its mint drives like its done 75,000 its realy nice just sat outside 12 months mot and 4 new tyres and proper tyres and a tow bar the cheapest i found is £1695 the second market has gone mad . ,My daily drive is still the E38 .
Owned one and flogged many, not a moments bother had with any of them. Brilliant cheap used cars. Even the diesel (1.7 Isuzu) is a tough nut to crack, but the 1.6 petrol is all you need. The 2.0 Type-S 5dr was a bit of an unsung hero. Loads of go, decent on fuel, chain driven and plenty of space.
I bought one of these Civic 2005 in 2015 with 55k miles. Very reliable, I did my own servicing regularly, only thing that broke was the warning alarm when leaving lights on. I fixed that. Only other problem I had was cold air coming through the drivers side door when going fast. I sold it when it had 117k miles, still driving like a dream, only sold it cos it was a right hand drive and I live in Europe.
For once, I'm here for the car, and not for Matt. Brand loyal Honda fan here, so no matter how boring a car it is, I will click on a Honda video when I see one. 😂😂😂
I have one of these still,a 2004 5 door 1.4,it's been great and still is.Was sorn for over a year and just moved around a yard now and again, passed its mot yet again with no advisories a couple.of months ago.Never ever fails to start even when it's been standing.Excellent car.
i’m sixth owner of this car model in auto bought in london bit battered not a single panel without a dent/scratch no rust anywhere usually passes mot straight or fails on consumables tyres etc nothing major drives fantastic uses zero oil do own maintenance just turned 460,000 miles!!!! only one problem rear washer doesn’t work as tube is blocked that’s it bit different to all the german rubbish i had over the years the ole civic will not die
Both my partner and I have mk7 Civics, 1.6 SE auto. They're named Howard and Hilda! Hilda is the sane colour as this one. Nice and nippy, reliable, easy to drive and very smooth gear change. Only issue we have is that it gets terrible condensation. But apart from that, they've been great. They have a lot of rear legroom even with the front seats reclined. And the cabin in the front feels very spacious, and good headroom. We like it as it has a normal auto box- don't like the shape of the newer mk8 Civics and wary of the CVT box!
@utb8536 very reliable, I don't find it much thrirstier than my previous car (1.4 petrol fiat doblo manual). On a good run on motorway I can get 36mpg, I do mainly short journeys and about 24mpg round town. I've not had to anything too drastic repair wise, consumables and usual things and also had some welding done to get it through MOT.
My now retired gp had two of these, back to back, both Type R models, one silver, the other black. I think they're the best model of Civic. All the newer ones seem like boy racerish Tonka toys and are too big.
Cracking video, I've got my dad's on the bottom of my drive. Been sat there last couple of years after he passed away. Same year and model but in red. Great little car.
Yeah nice little car! My wife has a 2009 mazda 2 and she never does anything to it other than drive it and have a small service and mot once a year. In 10 years, it's never gone wrong. I drive a Lexus, but I love the little mazda ! It's cheap, simple motoring. I think less is more sometimes. Great video 📹 👍
The “how old is the civic driver” game, and here I thought I was the only one!!! My husband and I play almost the same game here in Canada, but with a slight twist (as corollas are more common) The “How close to expiration is the owner of that Corolla” game. It’s ALWAYS beige or gold, and in the left lane doing a minimum of 20 under the speed limit with 25 cars piled up behind it, seemingly oblivious to all its surroundings that aren’t directly in forward view. They’re getting sneaky though, now they’re driving the Corolla cross and (for the more wealthy retiree) the new body style venza. Time to change the game rules!! Love the channel! Cheers!
This was my first car and is currently my daily driver. It's an EU8 but apart from the weight and size it literally just a "5 door EP2" as I put it. An amazing hot hatch for people like me who need the extra doors for grandparents etc, in some cases the EU8 has gotten quicker 0-60s than the EP3. All EP mods can be installed to it aside from straight pipe and the side/rear body as it's slightly longer. What a sleeper
I had a 2004 one of these between 2007 and 2017. It was absolutely bulletproof, totally reliable. I didn't find it to be an oil burner at all by the way....but maybe mine was an exception.
I drive a civic like that, black interior and leather seats. I have bought it in february 2023 with 155k mileage as a stopgap to last me a year. I still drive it as everything still works... The mileage is 178k now.
That green Civic Executive you sold a few years ago is happily still on the road, still racking up an (almost) consistent 10,000 miles a year since you sold it. They are really good cars. YAY!!! (yes, you can see what I did there).
I've had 2 of these and theft are mega. My second was 2.0 Type S and it was a flying machine. The only issue was setting the clock ironically, it was bloody complicated.
I own a 2001 Civic 1600 Se Executive Auto. Only 56K. Lots of service history. I have had it 2 years when I brought it off my 89 year Aunty. Since I have owned it I have changed the exhaust, front Brake discs & Pads. Rear brake callipers & pads. New Aircon condenser, new battery. I changed the radio cd to pioneer unit so I can stream music & navigation on my phone. The car has a leather interior. Electric sunroof heated front seats electric heated mirrors. Everything works including now the Aircon(actually climate control) the bodywork has a few scrapes. The car will shortly be surplus to my requirements & don’t want to scrap it because it runs well & is very reliable. I would trust it to drive for the next 10 years with minimal cost. I might give it to you to recycle or advise
I have a 2002, 1.4 Honda Vision that has only done 84,000 miles. My last MOT fail was just because a wheel arch/ sill needed a new piece welding in, apart from that all good, the engine is great. The mechanic said he works on a similar aged car that is going strong at 250,000 miles he loves them.
Great to see a Honda reviewed on the channel at last. Glad it was a good one. Is this your first ever Honda review? I was beginning to think you had something against them. Hope to see a sportier version in a future video.
After retiring from BMW AG 10 years ago I ran old Mercs with mixed results then settled on a mint 325 Cabrio. The direct injection N53 engine was a bad choice - blew it's head gasket at 80 k. My run around has been a 2004 Civic Exec Auto. In 104k miles it has cost a £40 camshaft sensor. I get 47 mpg on a run but I am 75. Brilliant car and the auto's are strong conventional units. They do rust under the back end so try and buy one that has lived in the salt free warm south not in the Peak District where Matt and I live.
I had a Honda Civic 1.5LSi for 18 years (1996-2014). Sad day when it had to be scrapped. No aircon or airbags, but a nice car to drive. Had about 114,000 miles on when it went - but brakes, suspension, fuel lines and parts of bodywork were past repair.
Ha ha, just started watching & now 1/2 way through. I love your videos & was puzzled when you said early on “they tend to rust a bit” or similar. I thought, that’s strange, I’ve not been aware of Hondas rusting? It’s been built in Swindon, I’m in Australia & ours are built in Asia. I own a 2006 Toyota Kruger (Highlander) only because it’s such a good car and I don’t need a Landcruiser. Your age estimate is excellent, I’m 69, I keep all of the service history on my car & my wife’s in a sleeved binder. We drive automatics & have new batteries & a lithium jump-starter. Finally, her car, my car & our boat all use the same size/terminal arrangement battery. Thanks, I love your reports. PS I’ve watched until the finish, a good/fair profit for your work & another beautifully built car from the “Golden Age” of Japanese cars will service & delight another lucky owner. Thanks for your great work!
Can't wait to see the corolla video - I had NI reg 02 corolla T2, got it off my aunt who owned it for 14 years and it cost about £FREE. Never let me down, started and drove fine and I put 20k on it during my ownership.
thank you so much for another great video. I am a big fan of your vids, I think I have watched every single one that you have posted. Just one thing I would like to say, with total respect and no offense intended. As an older chap I did find your assumptions about older people being associated with this type of car and in this type of condition, whilst probably accurate, a little bit patronizing. Interior was pretty nice on this one, compared to the usual (when they normally look like someone has shat in it) !
Hearing aid beige, we call it.
Any idea on the Peugeot RCZ just might start looking ?? Opinion valued 👍👍👍
Idk why but this comment made me laugh
oooh nasty business!
I see a High Peak Autos Video, I click.
Same beer mate
He could review anything, I also click
Another clicker here
Cheers guys
Yep another clicker right here , love these videos
My dad has had his 2004 1.6 auto exec since it was 5 years old and 43k miles. He's been changing it now for the last 5 years, but never does. It's been pretty faultless, but has been kept garaged for the last 14 years so no rust, it actually looks just as good as it did in 2009. Kate Bush is a legend ☺️
Got one of these exact models in black for £400 as my first car in 2017. Still going strong 👍
I had one for about 9 months back in 2015, was cracking car and sold it to a staff member in the end, still going strong
for £400 i could maybe buy its steering wheel here..
@@khelgarironfist3301 same here lol.
Nice motor….nicely saved…🎉
not interested in cars then:p
I love this show and it always surprises me of the low valuation of used cars in UK. In Canada, even a slightly dented and scraped 18 year old Honda would be worth much more than £500 ($837 CAD). And one like this with low mileage, service history and a high spec would certainly warrant that small body repair, as the seller could easily get their money back.
Great video as usual. It's not the main reason I watch them, but one of the spin-off benefits of High Peak videos is an ongoing education into the vast number of shonky tyre brands I've never heard of that people fit to aging motors. Just thought I'd share...
Hahah me too!
I must be unusual in that I’ll buy a 130k mile Alfa for 20p and then spend £1000 on a wheel refurb and a set of Michelins. 😂
I couldn’t drive on some of these Chinese ditchfinders like Fate-O Cauliflowers or whatever.
@@dilan4123 that’s just business mate, risk = lower offers. You never know what kind of life a used car has had
@@Vaguepaperchasing yeah I know it is, that’s what I’m saying. Dealers can’t complain about receiving in dodgy cars because they buy them well under value in the first place and will flip a profit on most.
Do you also get tax credit that you can offset your income with the vat accounted here?
Also got to think about forecourt rental, phone bills, heating and lots of other business expenses which profit on sales has to cover 🤔
But it was absolutely bulletproof and great fun to drive!
i like how after telling us that “alright” could mean anything… Matt’s first reaction to seeing the car is “It looks alright!” truly british
😂 🇬🇧
Cracked me up that did.
I had one of these. It’s one of the cars I regret selling most. It was almost too reliable. I took it everywhere, even off-roading and it was absolutely rock solid.
Offroading? Do tell....
@@norwegianzound light off roading. Took it through the desert and off the beaten trail many times. Not major stuff.
I have to say I still prefer the shape of that generation civic. Glad it worked out for you. Thanks for taking the time to put these out.
Fantastic little cars, bulletproof. Shame we in the UK overlook these old little hatchbacks today
My Aunt when we bought her things used to say "This will see me out"
@@Pat14922 This generation of Civic along with the Toyota Corolla are probably the last cars you could say that with confidence about.
U reckon the ep3 typeR side skirts would fit on the 5door?
@@marlonbaird6070 No they wont
Nothing like Japanese reliability!!! I'm sure the buyer will get a few yrs more happy motoring out off it.
Good video love the cheapies 😆
I "old" and I have a manual gear box because it's fun! Also I'm an American and have a Honda Accord, which is what Civic buyers would get in the U.S. because gas is cheap. My radio station is '60's rock, even though I was a small child then! Civics are great cars.
Honda Civics are the best hatchback money can buy in my opinion, amazing cars in every way.
Handy little cat for doing the school run. Nice to see another loved car being saved from the scrappy
"I don't know what alright means"
"well where here now and it looks alright"
Quality.
I swear that was accidental but it sort of proves my point 😂
I work the motorways and in 16yrs i have only had one honda broken down and that was a beaten relic import. They are as reliable as a car can be in my opinion for what its worth.
Just to note these also seem very vulnerable to catalytic converter thefts - there are a lot on the market spares/repairs or salvage just because of cat theft.
The model after mounted it right at the front of the engine so it's very difficult to steal...
@@Negativvv only 1.8 and 2.2 versions the 1.4 is underneath. also type r 2.0 under neath.
Had 5 Civics so far in my lifetime, about to get number 6 ( Civic E HEV Advance ), all have served me well with no major issues. Currently own a FK8, so far my outlay has been 2 tyres, set of wiper blades and rear pads. That's in 4 and a half years.
An actual success story, Matt!
Excellent news, keep up the good work.
Cheers, Dino 👍😁
Thanks 👍
Lovely little civic here
Oh thank you!
Bit of a touch this one. Great looking car, worth every penny both to you and the new owner!
She's a clean well cared for beauty. Love the moment of suspense when we rejoin you, ahem, a few days later.
Crazy to see this old civic Vs the mk10 or the newer 11. Would be cool to get your thoughts on one of those
The new owner is a wise (and I guess wealthy)man
Lives in Central London and buys a beater for circa £2k
While 1000's who live in the suburbs spent £2k every 4 months keeping up with neighbours on their leased merc.
EU (5 door) models don't have this issue as the speakers are located in the doors thankfully! But the rear arches do still go like EP's.
@@Liam-mt1fg commented before watching the video, then realised it was the 5 door 🙄 we have 5 doors over here but they are rare, mostly it's a 3 door, hence why i jumped into conclusions early.
Your definition of 'alright' is spot on!
Always something to look forward to on a Monday evening after tea. Keep em coming Matt.
Thanks! Will do!
@@HighPeakAutos Yes, please do. Not really that interested in cars but watch you for pure entertainment value. Excellent work...
I appreciate that!
Love the age estimating!!!
Thanks for uploading 😊
really drab boring cars
Really enjoy it when we see the whole thing, from purchase through renovation to sale. My wife's Honda Accord went for 229,000 miles without any major issues, and we sold it as a going concern after that. Honda's are great cars, as we all know. And you're right. It will go for another ten years with care.
For £900 all in that's a really good car. It looks good with low mileage and it doesn't look like it's been sat for ages either.
Nice vid keep this style of vid coming
Thanks! Will do!
And now I'm on Auto Trader looking at equivalent cars I'm never going to buy... 🥰
Love these mate, so refreshing from the run of the mill
Glad you like them!
Haha very good
I have one of these still,a 2004 5 door 1.4,it's been great and still is.Was sorn for over a year and just moved around a yard now and again, passed its mot yet again with no advisories a couple.of months ago.Never ever fails to start even when it's been standing.Excellent car.
The man who likes cheap cars
i’m sixth owner of this car model in auto bought in london bit battered not a single panel without a dent/scratch no rust anywhere usually passes mot straight or fails on consumables tyres etc nothing major drives fantastic uses zero oil do own maintenance just turned 460,000 miles!!!!
only one problem rear washer doesn’t work as tube is blocked that’s it bit different to all the german rubbish i had over the years the ole civic will not die
Is it reliable the auto? Is with converter? Drinks more or less?thx!
I've just bought the same one -my2005. I can't wait to start using it. I hope there are a lot of happy miles in front of us.
Another brilliant vid, thanks Matt. I'm slowly watching all of them.
Glad you like them!
I just realised... your videos are awesome. Really informative and straight to the point. You have a really fitting narration voice.
Love Civics...owned one of the first gen ones in Japan in the 80s....very good car
The “how old is the civic driver” game, and here I thought I was the only one!!!
My husband and I play almost the same game here in Canada, but with a slight twist (as corollas are more common)
The “How close to expiration is the owner of that Corolla” game.
Great find you scored there Matt. I do love this eries of videos - thanks for taking the time to create and upload your videos. Cheers!
I drive an old Porsche and I drive it like I was 21. We are not all as old as we look :)
Thanks! Trust me there was no malice there. Everything was said in jest.
@@HighPeakAutos thanks so much for your fast reply. I am both flattered and surprised that you replied so quickly. I have taken no offense and remain a big fan. Your response shows what a proper gentleman you are... thanks you
Well those are great Cars. You speak about the Corolla. I have one of those, bought It 2nd hand 10 years ago. Still goes strong.
My friend's father had a Civic like this one. I remember the gear nob being up and very well positioned. Those 1.6L engines are great. True they miss a 6th gear to cruise.
But small cars? Isn't it 4.4m long? I don't think more than 4m is small thought.
Can't wait to see the Toyota Corolla!!
Another great vlog Matt as per usual, keep up the good work and every success for the future, not that you need it.
