Really like the videos. I wish at the end you would take some actual swings and when you do the drill. Some normal some in slo motion it would help the kids
Man, thanks a ton for what you do. I am in my 3rd season of coaching what is now 12U. Up until two years ago, I hadn’t put on a glove in 35ish years when my son took up the game. You guys make me look like I know what the hell I am doing. Could have been a better player, I am not a coach. I am a student of the craft. Again thank you and keep it up. I’m smitten with baseball and the boy decided not to play anymore. So, he made me fall back in love with it. It’s a fraternity gentleman.
Nice video. I've always told kids to hang onto the bat with both hands until they are fully extended. After that, it doesn't matter. But good extension means you are keeping the bat "on the tracks", or in the hitting zone, for as long as practical. No one's timing is perfect, so keeping the bat in the zone will give you a better shot at making solid contact even if you're a bit late or early.
Great information and clearly you are very knowledgeable about the game. I do agree though with others that it would be helpful to see you take full swings at normal speed. No biggie though, keep up the good work!
If U are shaped like Coach (elbows apart, arms flexed) the barrel will be rising thru the hitting zone. Remember, you are trying to match the barrel path with a pitch that is descending. This puts the bat in the hitting zone for the max amount of time. A high finish is simply a result of proper shaping at contact and great extension... just like Coach teaches.
I agree but want to point out one thing also look at your bone structure with out goimg into a lot of detail bones iin your wrist and relatiomship to your elbows which are levers to your shoulders south of the border ankle bones in relation to knees which are levers to hips love your stuff
Hi coach Justin, I have a problem. I seem to make contact a very high percentage of the time with 1 strikeout in 8 games but when I hit it, it dosnt seem to ever exceed 100 feet (which is about my highest give or take 50 so about 150). So basically what I am trying to say is that I have no power when I hit. And also I would like to know how to control more where you hit. Thank you so much this is really helping me!!
Get stronger if you you get stinger you’ll have more power but stick with your approach of just making contact and just sun for line drives up the middle and aim for right center. Also it’s just when you swing if you swing very early on a outside pitch it will not go far if you have a outside strike swing when the ball is at your back hip inside swing at front hip down the middle swing at the start of the plate.
Extension after contact makes the most sense to me. I see other swing mechanic jockeys promoting that your arm should be extended / barred out at contact and they will reference an MLB player that did it.
I let go of the bat and finished with 1 arm and destroyed my shoulder. I would recommend following through with 2. Always warm your shoulders up no matter what your doing
Hi coach justin your videos have helped me alot in teaching other kids and what to look for thank you very much I work with alot of smaller kids 4-5 and you have alot of great grounder and hitting videos buy could you make a video about catching the ball at a younger age and drills I could work with them there are not very good videos out on this if you could help it would be very appreciated thanks again
Christopher Colunga throw the knob of the bat at the ball, drop the head of the bat and drive it. If you back up, then you have to step across and go get it or you’ll be out of position to hit it. If they jam you they are obviously trying to get you to back off the plate. Learn to drive the inside pitches. Knob to ball, drop the head and drive it.
Do you think I should be teaching my daughter these same swing mechanics for fastpitch? I have been since she was five, but her coaches now at 12u throw a fit if her bat isn’t level with the ground. She listens to them now and she hits nothing but little grounders usually to the pitcher. They preach the chop swing. I have scoured the web looking at elite fastpitch hitters and it’s kind of fifty fifty. Although none that I have seen chop. Thanks!
My 9 year old has the exact problem of letting go to early. I've been trying to break him of it for 3 years and if I don't stay on him he'll do it every time. If he keeps both hands on the bat he hits the ball a mile. If not he pounds it straight into the ground back to the pitcher. On the tee, in soft toss and front toss he'll never do it. As soon as pitches start coming from distance he starts doing it again. Are there drills that can keep his hands on the bat through his swing.
The one handed swing allows players to chase more pitches that are outside of the strike zone. It is very difficult to square up a pitch outside of the zone. The chances are that you will end up with a lower average because of weakly hit balls that become easy outs. Try to teach your players to be more zone disciplined by staying with a two handed finish. My coaches want me and my whole team to hit the ball on the beginning of the bat. Is that a good way to hit homeruns? I honestly dont think so. They also want us to move our hips and then bring our bat around. Is that also right? Cuz my dad said its not and if you do do that then you arent even using your hips. plzzz respond.

Can you do demonstrations at the end of your vids just to see what it would look like in a real time swing
Look at mlb players

thank you justin! this was extremely helpful in confirming some things I already suspected.
Extension and finish High.....got it....thank you coach

Great video Justin, very helpful, thanks.
hey, coach Justin, could you explain why I should finish my swing high?
thanks!

Yes should talk about improper hitting injury.

100% Finish the hands above the front shoulder ALWAYS. Shoulder to shoulder swing
Great job, thanks for the videos! Go Rockies!
Coach Justin, can you please do a video on where to stand in the box if a pitcher is jamming you. Thanks great video btw!

My kid finishes his swing with a dab and ever since he has been crushing it.
