Hey Matt, love your videos. The problem with players being able to grasp the concept with the action is that a lot of players have been given long winded tips, and drills that have been ingrained in them through relation, and usually work counter intuitively against each other. When I work with my players especially the younger ones I had figure out away that was simple to grasp and easier to say. I tell them "Back elbow to belly button" even my 4 year olds know what and where those are. It immediately puts the barrel in the hitting zone also keeping those hands nice and tight, and keeps the knob of the back from facing upward. Just with those to words, try it and see how it works. Let me know what you think.
By far the best hitting advice out there. I am completely self taught when it came to my swing. I always felt most of what is taught by coaches was always incorrect. I came to the realization of a lot of what he talks about in his videos on my own through trial and error. Right now I am trying to teach my 10 year old some and this video will help a lot. Thank you so much.
I really wanted to say thanks for this video and all of your videos. So much information out there without people really explaining the why which leads to a lot coaching bad habits. Everyone is not the same but understanding these simple mechanics creates a strong foundation!
Another excellent video, thanks for the amazing content. Your demonstration with top hand and bat in neck slot is one of the most clear and concise explanations of barrel turn I have seen. The visual of top hand palm pivoting from facing the pitcher to palm up is tremendous. This really simplifies this action. Thanks again!
I can't tell you how long I've been trying to get the dip out of my swing and be on plane with the pitch. Years of struggle and one video changes everything. Much thanks and love to you coach Matt. Very much appreciate the help.
WOW!! Matt I love your videos, but in this one you really simplified the turning the Barrel move! I’ve been trying to teach my son this, and he is very armsee when trying to do it... I love how you just kept the bat on your shoulder and let the hands do the work!!👍 Thank you so much for this video and for all the great work that you do!💯
I know this is a older video but man these people just don’t know how much game you just dropped thank you for stamping the approval on what I’ve been saying 💪🏽
Dang that is super insane Matt after watching the vid I tried it and I could truly feel the difference and then I went into some tee and flip work and it was having a difference already!!!!! You are a beast Matt!!!!!
Matt, in your opinion is turning the barrel the/an approach for all batters regardless of their size, strength, and goals at the plate? I realize it’s about getting on plane, but do you think it applies to smaller, non-power guys or will those types of guys wind up flying or lining out more frequently with this approach? Thanks
I gave this advice to a 9 year old who had arms that was just a little bigger than a handle of a bat. He hit it so perfectly and solid that he out slugged a 10 year old (my son) that had a whole foot on him. His smile was awesome and the shock on my son face was priceless. My son started listening to my advice and trying to shorting his swing.
Great video Matt. Been trying to teach this to my 10 year old. So many reasons why this benefits their swing.Especially on inside pitches. Part of the challenge for younger players is thinking they need to use their arms more to swing harder.
Another challenge for younger hitters is being able to have good path and quickness when their bat head is tipped towards pitcher vs straight up or little back towards catcher.
Hi Matt, great video as always. By far the best hitting technique anyone can explain. Can you please do a video on low-ball hitting. Most of the videos on the turning-the-barrel technique have the tee at mid-thigh or up, so it's easier to get the barrel from the turned, horizontal position to the ball. But what should the path be to knee-high pitches? Thank you!
Such an incredibly helpful video. Was trying to explain what was going wrong with my 6 yr old's mechanics(he's doing exactly the "not to do" you showed of looping arms behind). He's hitting the ball well with pure hand/eye coord, but behind/misses sometimes because his hands/arms are getting too far from the body, and his bat acceleration has slowed since the mechanics changed from start of the season. It's ok to duct tape his arms so they limit him from reaching/looping, right?😂.
Thanks Matt you are always keeping me active with baseball and great video , you have helped me hit over.400 and a slugging of.569 you are the best keep this amazing work up!!!!! You are the best Matt!!!
Thanks for the tips, Matt. I'm definitely going yard once co ed softball, social rec league starts back again. Trying to impress those hot IT recruiter and HR chicks on the team.
@@MM-qi5mk perhaps no better sports role model to follow. 4 touchdowns in a single game. Insane. I'm not sure that I've seen the baseball episode. I'll check it out.
Good video. You’ve talked about this before n needed more detail. I would like ur take on how to connect the “barrel turn” approach vs. hitting the ball out front. Both must happen but it is hard for kids to do both. It seems to me, that is easier to build up a swing if teaching this first, then expand from there. Mentally if they focus on hitting out from, it creates long swings then is hard to get them to to focus on barrel turns!! Idk I guess depends on age!
the thing that actually helps me Is watching the swing…because I feel like some people ever complicate the motion. So it’s nice to actually see the swing in full motion and slow
Everyone watch Ben Hogan ( legendary golfer ) hit a golf ball from down the line. When he makes contact his arms stay connected to his body and just rotates left through the ball and he never “ flips “ his hands until almost the end of his swing Hogan, a Legendary Ball Striker and he used some fundamentals in the baseball swing for his golf swing
Matt, we are just opening up here in CT. I am still having trouble with: how do you know you are turning the top hand correctly? For example, this video of Derek Jeter ruclips.net/video/y5nebzp2Ijw/видео.html seems to be an armsy swing pulling the bat through the zone and he seems to just get the front elbow turned up and back elbow tucked to turn the triangle into the ball. Also, how do you tilt but not 'drop the back shoulder'?
Lol watching these vids the “too up” swing might be worse bc an ideal “too down” swing could still create one perfect contact spot that results in backspin and flight.
No wonder Video game Matt is so good, he is going to be super MAD when he finds out that he will only be getting 500,000,000 dollars instead of his yearly billion!!!!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂
I noticed that George brett always used to have his bat on his neck. I grew up hearing how bat it was to wrap the bat behind your head but this makes sense

This video was rly helpful. I can feel the difference in my swing and my bat path is a lot better gracias
Makes total sense
Best explanation of bat path I've ever seen. Thank you for continuing to debunk the "hitting down on the ball" dogma.
Beautiful explanation!!
A video I continually revisit. It really provides such a great “how to” and keeps it as simple as possible.
Thanks!

This is pure gold. Thanks Matt
Thank you so much Matt This was a game changer my sons first year playing and after applying this he got his first hit and now he’s getting more hits

These couple of videos you did at home during quarantine are some of your best ones. Great content love your channel. Thanks!
Excellent clear easy to understand explanation. Thanks Matt.
This helped me a lot, thanks!
So clear and simple. Thank you.
One of THE best explanations. Automate your swing!

Love ur vids Matt thanks a lot!!
I have a question Matt about Blast motion plane scores and how it correlates to major league swings. Would they all have a good score?
Gonna use this
Well done

Can you show a drill on how to sustain a good low posture
Look up Don Mattingly
Hi Matt, I do not speak much English but I am very interested in learning more, do you know of any coach in Spanish who teaches this type of swing?
Any way I can send you a Video of my swing and you can critique it ?
You have a lot of good info on pro hitting, i wonder why your not in the show anymore did u just age out??
Imagine you swung and miss at the end of the video 🤣 after explaining all that in one take.

7:22 Matt goes 450' to the centerfield bleachers
Lol swing was all arms/hands after 7 minutes of telling you not to swing with your arms
Gold
Good thing you don't have glass windows on your garage door Matt. We did growing up and it got broken a few times
The best videoS
I'm going to beat Barry Bonds' homerun record after watching this!
