There's a lot of stuff I'd love to see adapted... but from season two which is as much as its confirmed right now, it's definitely getting to see Ace (and likely setting up Sabo much earlier) and Vivi's whole character arc throughout that season!
Btw just to make sure i get it through you guys, there is already a 2nd season in the works, it literally got immediately renewed after a week i think after s1 ending, but yes s2 is already coming and s2 is said to be start production soon.

Iñaki who plays Luffy obviously met Oda and got to ask why Oda picked him and Oda said “Actually, my biggest concern was if we could find someone like Luffy. But I watched a lot of audition videos and when I saw you, I started laughing..You are exactly like the character I drew in my manga. Intuitively I thought: ‘That’s Luffy’. I can’t imagine anyone else playing this role. I am so grateful that you were born to be just like Luffy.”

I think Inaki was perfect for the role too. Among the strawhat actors, Inaki/Luffy and Mackenyu/Zoro met Oda. In an interview, Mackenyu said Oda texts him sometimes and invites him for dinner.

Mr. 7 was indeed defeated by Zoro off-screen in the original, he's just mentioned in passing on Whiskey Peak as having tried to recruit Zoro in the past.
Garp is technically KIIINDA involved from early on (not THIS early, but yeah), we just didn't know who he was at the time. But he shows up in the cover stories and starts training Coby and Helmeppo.
To be fair, if you think about it, it's very likely Garp was going to visit Luffy for his birthday - (that's when Luffy left) - so he probably realised Luffy was gone, then went looking for him, had to deal with Morgan and found Coby. It works as a 'what if Garp didn't have to deal with Morgan being a bigger ass than he is'.
They did a great job with Mr. 7's design too, especially considering how all they had to work with was a one-off rough sketch Oda made in an SBS

FINALLY someone else noticed this. I've seen way to many people say she shouldn't have been able to walk away from that fall.
She shouldn't have based off on what the audience is shown, but the show tells us otherwise so its whatever. If a lot of people watch a scene and come away with the same takeaway, they probably could have shot it better.
The first time I watched that scene, it looked like she landed on him, and I told myself, "He's rubber, she's fine." 😂
Canonically, that is what happened yes. And humans in the OP universe (even those without powers) are established to be capable of being more resilient than real humans.
But this would absolutely not work for a real human, which is likely what people are pointing out.

I think one of my favorite additions in this first episode specifically is that luffy is the third person to try and recruit zoro.
Mr 7 tried to recruit him, then tried to kill him when he refused.
Morgan tried to recruit him, then strung him up in the yard when he refused
Luffy tried to recruit him, then set him free when he refused and continued on. Luffy was the only person that accepted his answer and didn't respond with violence, and this is on top of him being accepting of his dream and wanting him to go after it. it's no wonder he looked back and decided to help out
I am genuinely amazed at how the hell they found a cast that is. basically the straw hats irl. like even fucking Helmeppo feels like he was made in a lab just to play Helmeppo it's kinda incredible
I follow Iñaki on ig and he just has that goofball energy, and I am glad to say I saw him in a couple of things in spanish and he is fantastic at serious scenes too.
My favorite behind the scenes fact about the cast is that Taz took up both kickboxing and cooking as homework for sanji, and ended up falling in love with both, now he practices kickboxing for fun and cooks meals for the cast on set

FYI, you got some incorrect information, season 2 was confirmed ALMOST Immediately after season 1 came out, and theyve done tons of surveys on what people liked and disliked about the first season, released a teaser for season 2, and have 6 seasons currently mapped out and are hoping for 12

@@Jay-kx4jfThey literally have an anti-aging technology for filming now. It will only get cheaper as time goes on, it depends on if they care to use it. But even makeup and filming tricks are probably good enough
If I'm correct those 6 seasons will take on every arc till marineford and those 6 more is to wano which let's be honest is pretty hype, like they're already thinking of making 12 seasons up to wano which I'm fkn excited like that basically says "one piece's history won't fall even after the anime" But what worries me only is that oda's growing old, I'm hoping even after he's passing the live action creator's will continue to follow the manga and not let us down unlike marvel that literally after stan lees passing, marvel fell off hard. Like I'm hoping it doesn't happen for the one piece live action and continues on as another way to consume one piece, for western people who don't watch anime.
Garp does show up at Shells town early in the manga, it's the Captain Morgan cover stories. He just doesn't chase after Lufffy.

At the time, with the reputation of live action anime adaptations, it was a completely fair take.
Tbf I was really doubtfull of OPLA until the last trailer before the release too.
It's been a few months now so people forget but OPLA really did turn around people's opinion on anime live action adaptation.
I mean when even Cowboy Bebop couldn't be adapted well, it's hard to believe One Piece is the one. But One Piece never disappoints.

I'll give it a try, I'm searching for a long time for a good-written "coby joins the strawhats" story, until now the ones I found had luffy/haren and were focused in romance for some unknown reason

As far as Garp goes, you were sort of both right. In the manga/anime, Garp doesn't show up in the Strawhat's story until after Ennis Lobby. However, he is first introduced via single-page cover story glimpses (I think they're called 'Tales of Koby and Helmeppo' or something like that), where they show him and Bogart meeting Koby and Helmeppo, though he does remain as the nameless vice admiral with a weird hat for quite a while. The anime actually dedicated several filler episodes to this side-story.
I remember a first time watcher saying something along the lines of "You know what I love about One Piece? It's that they'll introduce something that to us seems really stupid, and we'll be like 'hey, that's stupid,' and One Piece will be like 'No, it's not,' and then we're like 'Okay, I guess it's not.'"
I think part of the reason it works is because they just embraced the Pirates of the Caribbean of it all. They didn't go "no we have to be different from all pirate stuff", they just set their tone and went with it. The best camp is the camp that embraces its own silliness.
The 2nd season was already confirmed 2 weeks after it was released guys!
And scheduled to begin filming in June.

Helmeppo and Sanji going (for me) from ~10% liking to 120% liking in this live action, they're so amazing.

I love everything about the OPLA, and I'm so happy that everyone who worked on it absolutely adores OP. The whole cast is A+

It was one of many stand-outs for me too.
This entire series is D&D Campaign Coded, but this episode really sells it.

I think they cracked the formula of a working live action, namely, to keep the true core/spirit intact, and that's why it's so well-liked. It FEELS like a fun adventure and Luffy's enthusiasm is just as infectious as in the manga/anime. I don't love EVERY change they made (though some others arguably improved things, too) but ultimately, it just feels like One Piece, and that's something not many LA adaptations can truly claim.
Also, since you brought up the anime remake that is gonna be coming... is that something we can hope for a reaction for, or is that also a definitive nope due to its projected length? 🙃
You are the first reaction I've seen from those who know OP to recognize Bink's Sake is playing in the BG, which is even funnier as u are manga readers primarily.
I think the One Piece live action works so well because it fully leans into the goofiness of the anime/manga. It doesn't try to deny its source material
As someone who's never seen/read the original, it took a whole ten minutes to make me totally fall in love with Luffy

well, about that "secret" young character that was sort of an easter egg, i mean, the show is very straightforward. we have Straw Hat Luffy, can't miss him, he wears a strawhat. Buggy the clown, can't miss him, he's the clown dude. Hand axe morgan, can't miss him, one of his hand is an axe.
And then (spoiler for people who haven't read until Impel down)
You have this big name pirate called Sir Crocodile, can't miss him, he's a dude - wait what

Other anime/manga adaptions to live action tend to tone down too much and shy away from the exaggerations and style. Here, the action and stylizing of the world heavily leans into the manga/anime conventions and works so, so well! It really helps that all the departments, from lighting, design, makeup, and cinematography all plays into it, too!
Loving this reaction. Very glad to see more One Piece from you two. I enjoy reactions to the live action more than the anime in general. I think you're very on point with a lot of your opinions in this. To me it feels like I'm seeing the same characters expressed slightly differently. A LOT of the writing feels less like an adaptation and more like "we're just getting to see more scenes and dialog from the strawhats that we haven't seen before."
I believe general consensus in the fandom is that the character at the execution is most likely who you suspect it is.
In the early parts of the manga Garp's only involvement is in Coby's cover story.

I’ve found that most fans that prefer the manga love the adaptation whereas fans that prefer the anime don’t like it that much. Probably because they have a visual for everything in their mind already but I was pretty sure you guys’d like it.

Edit: BTW, Oda has hinted that in the live action version of Arabasta, we WILL be getting Crocodile's backstory simultaneously in the live action and the manga (Elbaf arc). You guys hinted it in your discussion that Oda may have dropped an allusion toward it, and yes, many people have noticed.
second Edit: OMG, in all this time, I just realized that if they are seriously doing Crocodile's backstory in season 2, that means we will be seeing Ivankov in season 2! Seriously hadn't clicked in my brain until now.

I wish they would’ve kept the Mountain Bandit vs Pirate spiel in the Shanks “spill a drink on me” scene. It made it so much more satisfying when the Mountain Bandit was owned by a crew of the pirates he looked down on.

I'm so happy RUclips recommended you guys to me! Your joy is so contagious and your analysis is spot on! As someone who loves analyzing tropes too, I would like to recommend Madoka Magica (deconstruction of magical girl tropes) and Baccano (Rashomon storytelling).
There are certain parts that don't hit as hard because they have to condense a whole arc into 2 episodes. I definitely did not shed any tears from watching the live action like I did watching the anime, but it was still enjoyable.
Update: they have definitely confirmed the second season and it’s likely to release in 2025 based off of when they’re started and finishing production.

I'm too pumped for this. One of the most fun things about the series for me has been the flood of reactions and the fact that there's been a pretty decent balance of old and new fans and everyone seems to be having a great time. I've seen new viewers start the anime because this season was so much fun and they couldn't wait for season 2; to me that's exactly the kind of energy an adaptation like this needs to create. You're totally right, there's a lot of little nods and background things that are like easter eggs for the fans and the show will only get better from here. Welcome to the most well cast anime adaptation ever created.
broadly speaking there have been two kinds of One Piece Live Action reaction so far. 1: People who are going in totally blind and B: Fans who have seen through the anime and potentially read the manga. Both are very different in terms of what aspects the reactors respond to and in what way, so theyre very distinguishable experiences.
Fans of the manga who havent really seen the anime is such a distinct perspective that hasnt been nearly as common as the other two. Im lookinh forwards to this.
What i like about this live action is that it explores the east blue saga in more detail but more so in its complexity
Though you guys didn't really watch the anime, really so glad that the VAs for 20years One Piece anime is also the ones who did the Japanese dubbed in the live action adaptation.

6:20 They confirmed the second season within a month of release.
Season 2 has already officially been announced a while back after the overwhelming positive response it got. At one point, it was the #1 show on Netflix in over 80 countries for the first few weeks when it released. It would've been insane if they didn't make a season 2. Netflix uploaded a video on RUclips titled "A very special message from Eiichiro Oda" with Oda making the official announcement. They will soon start production of Season 2 this Summer and filming will take about 7 months which will probably get a release date some time in 2025.

Garp doesn’t come in until around water 7. but I don’t mind.. 😊 I’m sure they have their reasons for bringing him in so early. Oda Approved of any and all changes made so I’m sure there’s a plan. We may not know for a season or two but you know how Oda does… He never leaves a loose end. Even if its 200 episodes later, it all matters. ❤

The teaser for the whole season might indeed be good for people who are already fans. But any new watchers would be far better off not watching it imo.

It took me a while to actually watch this show. I was afraid it would suck like some anime to live action have in the past. I don't read the manga and only know enough of the anime to get the general idea of the plot/show. I'm glad to be wrong b/c this was awesome. Like I said I only know enough of the anime to get the general idea and enough to see that the characters are SPOT ON. I enjoyed the characters most of all. I enjoyed this show so much that I can't wait for the second season.
