  • These cameras all have 7 in their names. The Dynax 7 and 7D both has exactly the same controls and dials. The 7xi, a camera from 1991, had a power zoom lens, memory card to store exposure data, and an amazingly engineered user interface with a gigantic FUNC and P(anic) buttons.

I'm a little late to the party, but wanted to say thanks for the info. I have a Maxxum a7 and two 400si rigs. Also a Sony a6000, not to mention my Minolta SRT cameras. I guess I'm a Minolta Fan Boy. Been shooting the SRTs for years -- starting with the SRT-100. Love those SRT machines -- hard-working tanks.

I would say always get the best lenses you can afford as you will keep them much longer than the camera bodies. I've used 3 of the 4 camera bodies you have presented. I enjoyed the Dynax 7D camera. Loved the colour rendering in photos. Unfortunately my 7D developed a mirror fault during my travel. I still have my Dynax 7xi and Dynax 7 cameras. I bought them back in the day. The 7xi was not the only SLR with power zoom lenses. Pentax had a similar SLR around the same time. Minolta dropped the xi (eXpert Intelligence) series when they launched the Dynax 700si which had less automation but a more refined technology. The Dynax 7 was a fantastic camera. A very capable camera along with the Dynax 5 and the professional Dynax 9.
