7/12/23 I own a like new Minolta Maxxum 650 si model that has a built-in lever that allows the switching between standard and panorama enabling both types of photos on a roll of film the lever on the side would switch the frame size both on the back of the camera and in the viewfinder to match your shooting style. The camera has a lot of auto features including a built-in flash, a built-in motor drive, film cassette ASA ID, data back, and autofocus, allowing for a vertical battery grip, light meter settings for normal and spot readings, digital settings with display, front and back knobs to adjust settings. The price of body when new was $429.95. The only con I would say is the expensive priority battery needed to run it.
The adapter is only a mask. You can do the same in the darkroom or after scanning in photoshop or other post program . With the adapter you get lesser data. I can understand the utility of such a mask when you only option was to send the negativ to a lab but today ...I remember too that the Minolta xi power zoom lenses changed the angle of view in the viewfinder to match the panorama adapter.
