Contouring to reduce appearance of sunken cheeks

  • Contouring is my obsession. I am not a trained makeup artist so it’s trial and error…and error…and error…haha…
    Contouring a prominent nose is difficult, but it’s doable. The sunken cheek due to volume loss exacerbated by discoloration makes improving this area reeeaaaallly hard! I tried though. See what you think 😎

    You look really pretty.
    Btw everyone who's unhappy with sunken cheeks, just know that there's a bunch of younger makeup influences adding contour trying to achieve the hollow cheek look that you have naturally!

      I know and the irony is almost funny! I have decided there is a difference between sculpted vs. volume loss. I wish I had what I thought was my “fat” face when I was younger! So yes you are absolutely correct! Thank you so much for chiming in and your kind remarks ❤️

      That scar on my face used to look exactly like a dog bite. Figures since it was a dog after all that bit me, but I would have people asking me, “What’s the scar on your face? It looks like someone BIT you!” I would say, “Yes, my grandparents’ dog Bart bit me, God rest his soul.” 😳 Also, thank you for your kind comment, Siddie!

      I recently changed it. I semi-regret it, but it seems like since turning 60 my self-deprecation was not helping my morale. Maybe I’ll get over it and switch it back. Who knows 😆

    The pigmentation spot covers best with a tiny spot of concealer, 1or 2 shades lighter than your skin tone, and buff...keeping it only on the pigmented spot. Repeat if needed.
    Light application is key. Then, set it with a neutral soft shimmer powder or shimmer eyeshadow. Finely milled works best. It will set it and really hold up. I use a very pale peach. Do this last since you don't want to have excess makeup like blush collecting on that spot. Do the same to the other cheek. Remember shimmer bring things forward, but dark contouring recedes . You don't want those hollows to receed you want to bring them forward. Think BLURRING instead of covering. Nothing will cover this, not even Derma-Blend.
    If you must contour the cheeks, go in a circle, lightly around the circular shape of the blusher to emphasize round apples, but keep the apples of the cheeks dewy. After that, apply a light dusting of bronzer,(not contouring powder) across top of nose and cheeks, where the sun would naturally hit. This is more youthful, natural and dewy. Chiseled faces are great for the young, who have enough natural plumpness but not for the old. Also, avoid anything within orange tone. Warm shades are great, but orange looks dirty and sallow.
    Think sun-kissed, not suntanned.
    Good luck.

    Hi. You did a great job. Seeing your face is just looking at mine. I had sculptra to try and rectify it, but that had no effect. So am going to try contouring instead. You have inspired me. ❤

    It's more of a shadow than a discoloration. It's like the indentation we have under our eyes that create a shadow caused by bags. Treat the cheek the same way you would treat the under eye;) color correct and use a lighter shade full coverage concealer.

    I have a very narrow but long nose. I think I watched you put a light highlight on the tip of your nose. I've been told to put a darker color at the tip of my nose and a lighter one halfway across the bridge of my nose to shorten it. Am I contouring my long, narrow nose incorrectly? Your videos are terrific. Thank you for any guidance you can provide.

    • @StephanieB1982
      @StephanieB1982  Год назад +2

      Yes, I put that highlight on the tip of my nose early on because I was copying other techniques that don’t suit me! Good catch! The concept is to lighten areas you want to bring forward, and shade areas you want to minimize. In later videos I stopped doing that. Thank you for your input!

    • @goldust8092
      @goldust8092 Месяц назад

      Wow this was exactly was I was thinking ! I felt you were using too much of the highlight on the wrong part of your nose. And btw you have a beautiful nose. But anyway I guess you are applying your contouring differently now.
      I have an oblong face with high cheek bones and now at near 70 I am challenged with hollowing in my cheeks 😢
      Something strongly noted is that you look beautiful in spite of the hollow you are disguising . Your method at the end with the orange cover seemed to work as well as the very lengthy first attempt . IMHO ❤

      @@goldust8092 orange is an unnatural skin color on Caucasian skin that looks aging, sallow and dirty. Think darker beige, never orange. It looks horrible in the daylight.

    I think you did a good job! I have a vein going through my cheek. Some days I cannot cover it with any amount of makeup that will disguise the blue stripe going from my temple to about mid cheek. I'm now wondering if it is akin to being puffy some days? Allergies? You really do inspire me to start playing with makeup again. I am curious..., have you ever tried to contour a inverted triangle instead of just a line down the side of your nose? It might help create that shadow where you want it.

      Also dental issues can cause that sunken in look.
      Remember it's so important to take care of your TEETH!
      Many professional makeup artists and dermatologists/ skin care experts don't mention this but it's such a crucial part of prolonging a youthful look! I promise you.
      It's one of the most important if not THE most important. 💛
