As a German, who grew up with watching Michael Schumacher, Sebastian Vettel and Nico Rosberg becoming World Champions, I cannot say enough how much I admire Lewis Hamilton. He is just next Level and he pushed the whole sport on the next Level. He is a great human being and always improved during his whole carreer.
Great Interview by Stephen, he indeed asked some technical questions about the race, KUDOS ;)
100% agree, Lewis has a special place in F1 history, he did it the hard way. A lot of Hamilton’s success must also be attributed to Toto Wolfe & the late, great Niki Lauder who rose to the challenge of managing the team brilliantly in order for Lewis to excel.
Well said sir.
Yeah this interview was way better than post race presentation stephen sir told he don't know much about f1 but the once in post race show they know what this is and will ask silly questions
I am waiting for Schumacher Jr, that's gonna be something to lookout for
You know he drives the AMG that gives automatic wins most weeks, right?
I'm a huge fan of Lewis.... I'm also a big fan of Stephen... This interview was definitely one of the best interviews that Lewis has done on the Late Night circuit.... Kudos to Stephen for asking some stellar questions and for actually being interested in what Lewis had to say...
So am I, a huge fan if his. I've seen him on Graham Norton and on that interview he was funny...
I agree 100%! I don’t think I’ve ever seen Lewis so relaxed and so engaged in an interview.
I smiled through entire interview like a kid. Two of my faves!

I love the way he never forgets that if it wasn’t for his Dad’s sacrifice he wouldn’t be where he is....great champion
If his mother is not white he would never be where he is
The sacrifices his dad endured are unbelievable. For me Lewis's story is about the potential gain fathers make for their sons just by persevering
The interesting thing is, how similiar it was with Schumacher. He came the same path, no money, a dad doing everything for his two kids for them driving kart. But Lewis is even more amazing, bc he had to deal with racial issues..

I wish he mentioned it, probably got a thousand things on his mind, but it'd be nice to see him paying homage to Niki

I take the historic accuracy* of Rush with a grain of salt, but I think it captured the sport at that time very well. Brühl was awesome in his role.
* Le Mans 66 was largely fantasy in the details, but I enjoyed it for the production and 'feel'.
The race on Sunday was epic. The best of the 2020 season and arguably one of the all time classics.

Being fast 💨 is one thing, but being exceptional racer is far more

And i'm a Lewis fan but was super happy to see Seb in 3rd - I find myself rooting for Seb more and more each week
truly a legend of the sport. So incredibly consistent as a driver. insane!!!!!
He's consistent, but he also knows how to drive in such a manner that preserves his tires. It's some sort of magical ability he has. I say magical because no one else seems to have quite the same knack for it. This last race, he took one less pitstop AND ran away from Perez. And lapped his teamate (driving the same car). And the other guys who were pushing it (Max, Leclerc, et al)? They'd lose it and spin off. Lewis lost it a few times but he kept the car going forwards. So impressive when someone is at the highest level of the sport and they still separate themselves from their world class competition so thoroughly.

Most are from Europe, with some from North-America. Only one competes for an Asian country, though he admitted it's for sponsorship money.
I don't know what happened. A few years ago we had drivers from Japan, India, Brazil.
Over the last 20 years or so, Formula 1 has been dominated by the fastest cars, not the fastest drivers. Ferrari, Red Bull, and now AMG. 96.8% of the wins were because of the drivers being in the fastest cars, not because of the massive skills of the drivers. You'll be amazed at some of the hate he gets from UK people.
A young successful and intelligent young man and now one of the most successful driver ever and he gets hate.
Its truly fantastic that as an Englishman, a fan of F1 and Lewis Hamilton we can cheer about something good because let's be honest its been hard to find anything to cheer about recently.
Well done #LW44 #F1 7x🏆
That's the typical tabloid shtick though, isn't it Mark? He's a talented, young, rich black guy. So that's the Sun and Daily Mail automatically on you're case. Then, like many drivers who make a lot of money very quickly he goes and lives in Monaco for tax purposes, so that's the rest of the print media on your case. And it makes an easy clickbait item for the more tabloidy TV shows. But actual sport fans and most Brits who don't decide who to love or hate based on what their favourite tabloid says, respect the man and his achievements.
Couldn't agree more Mark. But let's be honest, the hate generally comes from intellectually challenged bigots.
Some of the things people have said about him is vile. I just don't understand it.
Spot on mark. I cannot understand the hate he gets. We should be grateful to have him as a sportsman Re writing the history books as we live. And unfortunately most of the hate comes from the UK, and not tabloids. Just shocking hatred as his black and successful. Have a look at other clips on RUclips , generally on UK bloggers pages , the comments are vile! I almost got taken out for suggesting a knighthood !
He gets hate from idiots who use social media for their voice because in a sane room no one listens to them. Look at the comments on this very video as one such example. Those of us who race or are proper fans who know about the sport, it's history and his talent don't, but that doesn't get clicks now does it. He is a great of the sport, to imply otherwise is purely the noise of a cretin and should be ignored.
Will go down as a legend of the sport. Hope the english know what they have rather than nit pick on his personality flaws. No one is perfect.

As a Brit, I want to say how proud I am of Lewis Hamilton. Just brilliant. Arise, Sir Lewis......

Lewis often receives more respect overseas than he does in the UK which speaks volumes.
Yep.
yeah, because he doesn't pay his taxes
We have the British press to thank for that. LH is often toted as a tax dodger for residing in Monaco. You never hear about other Brit drivers such as Jenson Button, David Coulthard, Paul De Resta and Nigel Mansell who have lived in tax havens like Monaco being referred to as tax dodgers. A lot of the Brits that don't like him cite this as a major reason.

So glad to see the champ doing promotion here in the states. I'm sure it's a lot easier on him when he can do it over Zoom lol. Lewis is the only black driver currently in F1 and top tier racing in general, so naturally the amount of pressure and scrutiny is immense. I've been following Lewis since 2007, with Ron Dennis and McLaren. He hasn't always had the fastest car, and hasn't only won under perfect circumstances. Turkey illustrates an example where under real bad conditions that saw a ton of attrition, Lewis's race craft shone through. A champion's drive to be remembered. I've never been a LH fan but he's really stepped up his game this year. The fact he's taking ownership of making change happen, rather than holding others responsible for it, speaks volumes of his character. Nicely done Lewis!
There was supposed to be a Formula One Grand Prix on a street track in Port Imperial right across the Hudson from Manhattan literally 2 miles from the Ed Sullivan Theater. It didn't happen; that was a race that should have happened.
Also, African-originated drivers are a rarity in motor racing. Most racing drivers are white, Asian or Latin. The fact that Lewis has achieved all this success (admittedly with by far and away the best car) is incredible, especially considering all he has endured.
The NIMBY culture is strong in the US. They scuttled the street race in Miami as well
@@TheTororist The Miami race actually has a good chance of going ahead- in 2022. The Dolphins owner Stephen Ross is behind the project. It's going to be done in the parking lots around the Hard Rock Stadium; the original plans for a downtown street race were ridiculous and were never going to work. There were IMSA street races around Bayfront Park in the 1980s and 1990s but Miami has changed since then.
When Hamilton signed for Mercedes they had a car that was finishing around 15th place on average. This "always in the best car" nonsense is so easy to refute. Just look at the race records. The thing is, the best drivers build the best teams. The best drivers bring in more funding. The best drivers have the most political clout in the organisation. It doesn't happen the other way round. And strangely, everyone is okay with that when talking about Schumacher, Alonso, Vettel and other champions.

Lewis and his brother Nicolas (another racing driver who has cerebral palsy) are so inspiring! I think Lewis has proven that he is the greatest- it's not the car, it's the man. 🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐
it cannot be overstated how *abysmal* the conditions were at Istanbul...and he made it look easy.
that's how good he is.
Not only that, he qualified in basically the worst Mercedes have done so this year. Looked like he was nowhere. Him and the team made the right call in the trickiest of tyre situations and that opened the door to the win. He didn't win because he had the fastest car, but because the team kept their cool and analysed the situation and took the risk; avoiding the pitfalls the others fell into... whilst keeping the car on the track as a bonus. It was a championship worthy effort from the whole team.
The fact that those conditions were on top on what he achieved makes it even more meaningful..
The greatest of all time
Great interview! One of the best one I have ever seen. Stephen asked some very good questions and genuinely listened. LH’s life is such a great story.
@9:26 you can see the disappointment on Lewis' face when Colbert pulls the rug from under his interview 〽️
Thank you Stephen for this interview, what a surprise!!! Congrats Lewis! you deserve this, you're a legend. Thanks for that race, what a way to win.
its very simple folks ... this guy is the best car driver in history ....
he will do alot more in F1 ,
really like how humble and inspiring he is to the future generations .
Blessings from Eire , stay safe all
Carey Miller Lewis Hamilton is one of the greatest f1 drivers of his time kudos to Louis on his seventh championship
GOAT
I used to I don't know I guess sort of dislike him because I thought he made the sport boring. But this past year has lead me to just recognize his greatness on and off the track. This guy is a legend and you've just got to love him. Congratulations Lewis!!
Thank god this comment section is pretty positive.
There is lot of people out there and lot of 'em are british too.. they absolutely hate lewis..
They talk about some tax nonsense and he's hypocrite... something like that. But this man is a true legend.
If any hates him for who he is.. they don't even love themselves. Period.
You are right. Sir Jackie Stewart has been a resident of Monaco so has most of the English drivers but that is ok so long as you are white. English hypocrisy at its best.
I think it's sadly only too obvious why there are many Hamilton Haters in the UK. And it has nothing to do with Tax/Arrogance/Hypocrisy. Anyof those charges could be levelled at Schumacher, Nigel Mansell, David Coulthard, etc.
Do i really need to spell it out? Sadly this is the world we live in. That he has equalled the best in terms of World Championships, and will almost certainly go on to become the leading driver for the foreseeable future, seems to mean nothing to many.
We love you Lewis! From London.
'Sir'Lewis Hamilton has to be soon. Needs to be knighted! Perhaps the greatest sports man in Britain?
Apparently he will only be considered for a Knighthood AFTER retiring from his sport. Dunno. I don't make the rules. Take it up with Liz!
@@timbeaton5045 Apparently, his tax avoidance is the main issue. I dunno, if you leech off society and don't pay your dues, maybe you don't deserve special privileges.
@@timbeaton5045 Sir Wiggins and Sir Murray were both knighted whilst still in their sports.
@@frankcooke1692 you mean like Sir Philip Green?
@@standtoattention Sure, why not. But then there's also the fact that the royal family are notoriously racist.
Lewis is so much deeper than Stephen can comprehend in this clip, I really hope Stephen does a deep dive on how Lewis has become who he has become.
Deeper how? Please explain.
