Fantastic Roy! Very helpful! I'm starting on a couple oars for the BivShak10, and came across your video. I'll be using ferrules to store them in half. Pretty much a necessity for that boat. Hope to bring it up to a Can-Am messabout someday. Would love to be there now. The temperatures here in Oklahoma are brutal this week.
I can't imagine how hot it is down by you Bobby!!! We got back from a week long trip last Fri. Had a great trip, they said rain most of the week and it turned out to be freat weather with the rain coming through at night and as we left the water! I'll be posting some clips soon! We'd love to get you up by us!!! Oars are not hard to make but to perfect them is an art! AllthebestRoy
And that was with the crappy oars. The new set will be much better and they will work for my sailboat CROW too. Look forward to testing them out in spring! BestRoy
Hey Roy, love your oars. I’m planning the great loop in the future and would love to put some on my sea Ray for Propulsion. My beam is 8 feet. What length do you think i should use? Thanks, Paul
My DIANNE'S ROSE is 8' beam, and I use 10' oars, but it depends how high off the water line your set up is too! A Yola maybe a better choice off the stern? BestRoy
Thanks for your reply. I plan to use the oars mostly down stream on the inland rivers for steerage and some propulsion. I have seen an equation with dividing the beam by 2 + 2 x 25 / 7 = 14.9’ 14 feet seems excessive? My craft is a SeaRay 215. The water line might be 2 feet down? I’ll start long and cut to length. Thanks for your input. Paul
@Paul Markovich it is getting excessive if over 12'! My 10s are a bit short but they fit inside the cabin and can be deployed quickly. They have been handy when my motor stalled and going down stream like you want.
@@travelbywater9378 Sadly there aren't many used oars out there in that size! Most are short 7'ers! I mad a very nice set of 10' oars for our DIANNE'S ROSE also. They are a satisfying project and not too hard to do! BestRoy

What glue did you use to laminate the oars?
Tite bond 3...as the oars are varnished and not used that much, it should be fine. I'd use epoxy for hard use!
@@roydesignedthat thanks, I am hoping to find used but if not, I will need to build some 9'6" oars.
