An updated version of the Harrier Jump Jet. Beautiful bird, and I like the fact it doesn't need much runway to take off. I really like the vertical landings, you can put her just about anywhere you want to.
Pretty sure they can VTOL if they really wanted to, it’s just highly discouraged. At takeoff the plane is at its heaviest, therefore the most energy needed, and probably a higher risk of vortex rings and other hovering problems. If you can use a runway though, use the runway.
Makes me proud to be british and how we perfected this 35 years ago. However, the harrier was shit in it's aerial capacity as a fighter. so then, the F35. What the UK can do coupled with what our friends the US can do. Wonderful engineering :)
+James McElroy You don't seem to know much about the Harrier and the role it performed for real in the Falklands. It's ability to VIFF (vector in forward flight) was a tremendous advantage which confused it's enemy no end. With the panels opening for the what I assume is a secondary engine, looks as if the F35 will not be able to VIFF. Harrier appears to have been superior but what do I know, I'm only an ex Harrier engineer, now retired from the RAF.
James McElroy yeah, the Russians always love to boast about their technology. But their engineering can't even hold a candle to British and American designs.
That door being extended on the short takeoff really scares me. It doesn't look that structurally sound. I'm sure the engineers have worked out all math for that, but it still looks scary given the amount of drag being placed on it.

Agreed! You can take the military power of the next 4 or 5 countries combined and they don't meet the size or power of the US military. The only other fighter jets out there that even come close to the F35 or the F22 in air superiority are the Su-35 & Su-37 that Russia has put together. There's video of their Su-35 on RUclips and it has impressive power and maneuverability as well. They appear to have put together a decent fighter. However, pilot training and readiness, and US technology in these jets ..... not to mention the sheer number of these jets that will be in the US arsenal (compared to what Russia can afford to build) still leave no doubt that the US easily dominated the Air, as well as the Sea!
Maximus DreivinX Yea those Russian upgrades on migs are compatible in speed but definitely not on performance, I mean the F22 could be right on there ass and they wouldn't know it lol
+Личный канал Don't see the combative point of vertical start personally. A plane that doesn't move is a fine target. To use in air-to-air combat seems rare. Big waste of tax payer money for any government. There is good reason these planes should not exist. It is better this technology be used for science, such as space travel, instead of governments, and lemmings of governments, squabbling over their idea of superiority, territory and control. . . . Instead we kill each other.
+KittySN The point of this aircraft is to be used on an aircraft carrier and helicopter carriers aswell. Also for short runways. It can basically land and start everywhere and that's a huge strategic strength.
+KittySN This is the F-35B variation for the marines use, for short range tactical combat, the air force F-35 variation doesnt have this big fan because for long range combat is not needed
+KittySN Normaly you ofcourse need special runways to start and land. With vertical start you basicly dont need them at all. If the area of fighting is far away, you need neighbor states in the area to allow you to use theyr runways. In the falkland war after the agentinians runway was hit by a bomb they wasnt able to start and destroy the Britain Warships. While a vertical takeoff Jet rolls out the bunker after an bombardment and start.
We were inspired by your great Harrier jet. I got to see a Harrier do a vertical TO and landing in person at an airshow in Dayton, Ohio, a few years back and was totally blown away (quite literally also. lol)
By having a vertical landing ability, this will eliminate all those scary and dangerous carrier landings that you see on television and movies (like Top Gun). A pilot can just come and hover and easily land on the carrier.
We get to see these things fly daily down here at MCAS Beaufort (SC). Brits are here now learning to fly and fix them (3 year deployment w family), Italians, Australians and others are coming over the next few years. These are the training crews, they'll go home and get everyone else up to speed. The Marine pilots and their students are about as impressive as one can find.
What is the use of vertical landing without vertical takeoff ? If runway is not sufficient in size then how the vertically landed plane will take off again ?
Vertical landing without vertical takeoff is great because there is no need for an arrester system (cables to catch hooks on carriers), short take off is used because you dont need a catapult system. This all allows the f-35B to operate off of smaller ships. I am not 100% sure all f-35bs are capable of vertical takeover; however, they have done it. It is just very inefficient
I sexually identify as a f35 hover jet and I want to speak out against the hate against my kind and the discrimination against me. I would like to demand free right be able to use the helipad and the runway and to be able to vote. Thank you for being so understanding

This is a state of the art and superb plane having advanced technology and can land like an helicopter,I am really impressed by this plane.Russia has no plane like this
Renato Bashir Yes because Russia beached and scraped a lot of their Navy’s infrastructure and main body fleets. Russia is located in one of the worst places in the world to be anywhere near effective on the sea. Their bays and oceans freeze over half the year crippling them essentially and hindering their Naval and commercial ship routes. So why would a county like Russia not have VOTL when they have more opportunities to build landing bases on ice or.. I don’t know maybe a moveable platform kinda like an aircraft carrier right? Because Russia as a super power with the other great nations of the world wouldn’t work. They scrapped VOTL because they don’t plan anything as they really only plan for the next 10 years. Russia is also notorious for giving up on projects when they see that they’re going have to throw money into it to see a profit and national defense. The US is exactly the opposite, you can say the US spends so much on defense but seeing as my country is the leading superpower with with land, air, and sea combat then I don’t think you have to worry about if you think that VOTL is inefficient. It’s got the raw power of a bomber/strike fighter and has further reach than any Russian helicopter, speed, stealth components alone put it above any competition. Does anyone know what power setting the F35-B uses to do a vertical landing (no weapons, low fuel load)? I know it's a heavily automated system, just wondering how close it is to max thrust when floating around. This program might be expensive, but it produced one hell of a jet (or 3).
Empty weight of an F-35B is around 32,500 pounds according to Wikipedia. The F-35B's F135 engine produces 28,000 lbf at max military thrust. A rough estimate would be that slighly over half of the thrust to VTOL would be made using the normal jet engine and that the other half is produced using the lift fan, but the exact ratios are very much dependent on the center of gravity of the airframe. I've got a feeling that the exact center of gravity of an F-35 isn't public knowledge at this time.
Why does the tail wing aim down? Is it because the total air force downwards is pushing the front up, making it have to compensate for it by pressing tail up? In normal takeoff tail is usually aiming up right?
+awesomo660 It can't transition from hover to flying , no plane can do that, the idea of the over is so that the plane can take of in a very short time . It would save navy lots of time in the aircraft carrier .
+Ilyas Sheik the idea that this aircraft cannot transition from a hover to forward flight is preposterous. seriously. if it could not transition in such a way the entire vertical lift system is basically undermined. there would be no way to abort a vertical landing if that were the case. the harrier transitions from vertical to forward flight by rotating 4 exhaust nozzles forward or aft. the f-35 operates on the exact same principal the main difference being that the forward and aft thrust component is controlled by the rear exhaust nozzle alone. the wing mounted lift fans control the yaw and roll component, the center (and by far largest lift fan) is responsible for the bulk of the vertical thrust, and the rear nozzle translates fore and aft.
The F-35 looks like it has a lot of potential. If it weren't successful, it wouldn't have been deployed in active service and being ordered by several countries already for purchasing. The problem is how expensive this plane is, which is where I see the hate is coming from; it's like Alex Rodriguez being hated on so much because he was the most paid player in the MLB once upon a time in spite of the fact that he was a really good baseball player. Well, let's hope these potential bad boys can really live up to being a multi-role fighter as it is said to be.
NotMe You Well, the F-22 Raptor was designed to be more of an Air-Superiority Fighter. But due to its stealth capabilities, speed, and the amount/variety of armaments it can carry, it quickly adapted to being a multi-role fighter, able to take on surveillance roles, ground attack roles, interception roles, etc. So, the Raptor may be a formidable rival to the F-35. But needless to say, I think the F-35 will have the upper hand eventually; it will be more numerous than the Raptor in terms of production, and will have the capabilities as much as the former air-superiority fighter.
I'm reading a lot of articles about this aircraft... several persons have talked bad about the F-35... Btw, it's very cool! Expecially the VTOL variant!
+justin mccaffery fly away cost on the F-35C in LRIP 8 was $135 million with engine, LRIP mean low rate initial production, so until they do full rate production for lot 11 and fully utilize the economies of scale the price will be higher. Not a single F-35 model has cost 300 million dollars.
I built it and she is over built. Lots of rules to each process down to how long u wait before applying seal or paint. Also Everything is sealed once attached practically triple redundant through out. Good for the fleet but annoying for fleet mechs... lma is stern in its rules 2nd. This is the first program where we test and fly for fighting at the same time less the osprey Problem with flight test is the 35s are restricted. Assuming the viper beat the f-35 we all need to remember that the 9g pull is not allowed yet. The Lightning pilot will loose wings if he yanks the side stick cuts the throttle and performs a semi cobra which this plane is rumored be able to pull off. Here is why the f-35 countries should be proud. One pilot in 2025ish will have command like playing red alert. From the cockpit he will command ground and air drones while doing his mission. Less work than a viper pilot. One lightning pilot with a suite of drones in command could shut down a battle.
+JFDR0319 They have commissioned a company to add lasers to the F-35 which uses the DAS to auto track heat seeker missiles and blind them. Once this is on the F-35 even if you have a better pilot and pull more G the enemy pilot is fucked.
Those landing struts (?) and springs must be an engineering marvel in and of themselves. How heavy is that thing again !? I was expecting him to slow down his descent a little when closer to the ground, but nope ! Trusted in the shock mechanism wholly !
sorry i am not qualified to ask this, but isn't the upper inlet cover like an air brake? does the possibility exist exhaust gases may enter the upper inlet? i have seen a documentary on tv some years ago.
***** You sure about that? its about 70 rounds a second of 30mm rounds. It's also an anti-material/anti-armour piercing round. Needless to say it WRECKS tanks.
Don Calo he also doesn't realise that "so slow" for an airplane is still over 600kph. like the a-10 can get hit by a missile, have its engine eat shrapnel, and still fly home. Its more durable then the F15, which can fly home without wings.
I really wanna be a fighter pilot but the process is confusing. What branch do you join? Cause I've seen more pilots in the marines than air force. Do they join the air force and then get a plane with "marines" on it? Or did they join the marines? Also how exclusive is being a fighter pilot? Can anyone that has the qualifications do it or is there a set number allowed?
It's slow, expensive, can be picked up on radar and stupidly over complicated; one little mechanical fault, and the aircraft is kaput. Also, who thought it would be a good idea to stick a heavy fan in it, it's just dead weight in flight.
+Juuso Peltoniemi actually, the f-22 , f-18 and the ea-18g cannot be detected on radar, and it is a single engine aircraft so if one engine goes out , you're screwed
+Tn7mu3 Avionics (radar, flight controls etc.) stealth, and unmanned aircraft are the future in aviation, not maneuverability and dogfighting. A Pitts Special bi-plane could out maneuver a F-16. The cost overruns do concern me however.
+jess Gantt F15 FTW ! :)) Anyway my country can afford now only F15 , so like I said F15 FTW ! :)) We got F22 too in our bases , but those are the american's toys lol.
Was that jet in the hulk scene from the first avengers movie inspired by this or was this inspired by the avengers jet? Because the thruster looks exactly the same and it can hover like the one in the movie.
Having read about the technical parameters of the F-35 for the last hour, I am amazed this thing even turns on. This is by far the most complicated and technically advanced vehicle that has ever been made, by an order of magnitude.
someone told me that the vertical take off and especially the landing uses up a huge amount of fuel so wouldn't be ever really be used over regular take off and landing, is this true?
Seems a bit more cumbersome in hover mode than the Sea Harrier which didnt require all those extra flaps open. Maybe someone with knowhow can clarify if this is so. Can it verticle take off and land with a full tank and full weapons?
It's actually better than the Harrier because of the nature of the propulsion system. The way that the Harrier's side nozzles swivel means that a lot of energy is wasted, while the lift fan allows for significantly more thrust at takeoff.
Be the most fearless and best Pilot Air Force, but you know if you make one mistake with the F-35 just one and you don't need them make a mistake to get shot down
This machine is absolutely amazing and the level of movement control while landing just impressive!

BadPilot but the plane in this video belongs to the USMC
Fuck You
Top top , que orgulho para todos nós que amamos USA.
Espetacular🇧🇷
Lot of hate on these planes but I think they are awesome.
"Autobots, roll out!"
Breakaway inbound!
The vertical landing is cool as fuck. Sharp looking piece of hardware!
Only in BATTLEFIELD
gamer be like
BATTLEFIELD 4
Just hold S key
Beautiful and an outstanding tool with a lot of advantages. No wonder Finland made the deal to buy them.
No smooth ,when vertical landing.
bowoR I disagree, it's pretty smooth
I love the f35 sets
what else it can do other then vertical takeoff and landing.
It can fuck your bitch!
had it fucked yours?
yeah and she loved it m8
I believe it's the stealthiest jet yet. Radar can't detect it until it's really close (18 miles I think).
Nitesh Sawant It can attack you with much force.
The f22 is a naturally better fighter jet. The f35 is more intelligent with the tech innovations.
NotMe You
Well, the F-22 Raptor was designed to be more of an Air-Superiority Fighter. But due to its stealth capabilities, speed, and the amount/variety of armaments it can carry, it quickly adapted to being a multi-role fighter, able to take on surveillance roles, ground attack roles, interception roles, etc. So, the Raptor may be a formidable rival to the F-35. But needless to say, I think the F-35 will have the upper hand eventually; it will be more numerous than the Raptor in terms of production, and will have the capabilities as much as the former air-superiority fighter.
f35-b by far and away the coolest of the 3 variations
Hydra!!!
I'm reading a lot of articles about this aircraft... several persons have talked bad about the F-35... Btw, it's very cool! Expecially the VTOL variant!
Is it a good jet?
definitely.
Is it a top of the line jet? most certainly.
But it's so outrageously expensive.
+tyler burtcher
It's around 20 million pounds cheaper than the multirole version of the Typhoon.
+Jax Pok 600 billion into right now and cost 327 milliion for a navy version
+justin mccaffery fly away cost on the F-35C in LRIP 8 was $135 million with engine, LRIP mean low rate initial production, so until they do full rate production for lot 11 and fully utilize the economies of scale the price will be higher. Not a single F-35 model has cost 300 million dollars.
+tyler burtcher this is the worst plane
how much?!
Beautiful Bird.
Ooooh, I do like a nice fat bird with wide-open flaps!
Super ...I love it... thanks..
plane not for war
Be good to see these babies on the Royal Navy's new carriers.
I built it and she is over built. Lots of rules to each process down to how long u wait before applying seal or paint. Also Everything is sealed once attached practically triple redundant through out. Good for the fleet but annoying for fleet mechs... lma is stern in its rules
2nd. This is the first program where we test and fly for fighting at the same time less the osprey
Problem with flight test is the 35s are restricted.
+JFDR0319
They have commissioned a company to add lasers to the F-35 which uses the DAS to auto track heat seeker missiles and blind them. Once this is on the F-35 even if you have a better pilot and pull more G the enemy pilot is fucked.
+JFDR0319 The F-35B will never be able to do 9g only the F-35A is rated at 9G. All of them are CLAW limited until Block 3F.
Those landing struts (?) and springs must be an engineering marvel in and of themselves. How heavy is that thing again !?
I was expecting him to slow down his descent a little when closer to the ground, but nope !
Trusted in the shock mechanism wholly !
We could have bought good schools. We bought this.
+Black solider assassin And where do you learned to write? In videogames? xD
He misspelled his username yo!
Now with Trump we get both Strong Military and dictator like Hitler!
You seriously don't have a clue what you're saying. I'm not even responding to someone so stupid. Go back to school you moron.
can good schoold do Short Takeoff & Vertical Landings?
sorry i am not qualified to ask this, but isn't the upper inlet cover like an air brake? does the possibility exist exhaust gases may enter the upper inlet? i have seen a documentary on tv some years ago.
I'd still take an A-10.
Brrrrrt brrrrrt
Modern equivalent of jericho trumpets
F-14 for life yo.
***** You sure about that? its about 70 rounds a second of 30mm rounds. It's also an anti-material/anti-armour piercing round. Needless to say it WRECKS tanks.
***** Such as all aircraft if done wrong. but the a10 is pretty strong, its a flying tank.
F-35 this is a shit, comparison with Russian T-50. This is a FACT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
+Sheriff Gurk In Soviet Russia, grammar fix you!
Thanks. My english is not like your RUSSIAN!!!!!
Sheriff Gurk KGB KGB KGB KGB KGB
+MarlonBitoy hah FBI FBI FBI FBI FBI
Sheriff Gurk Lol, at least the FBI still exists.
so awesome for can takeoff and landing in vertical this is so brilliant only if boing series have this feature ...
It's slow, expensive, can be picked up on radar and stupidly over complicated; one little mechanical fault, and the aircraft is kaput. Also, who thought it would be a good idea to stick a heavy fan in it, it's just dead weight in flight.
+Tn7mu3 You haven't got the faintest idea what you're talking about.
+Juuso Peltoniemi actually, the f-22 , f-18 and the ea-18g cannot be detected on radar, and it is a single engine aircraft so if one engine goes out , you're screwed
+Tn7mu3
Avionics (radar, flight controls etc.) stealth, and unmanned aircraft are the future in aviation, not maneuverability and dogfighting.
+Tn7mu3 This is just the variation F-35 for the marines use, the air force one doesnt have this big fan, as it is not needed
Great video. Thnx for sharing.
F-35 is more similar to fat chicken, whom can't complete in any way!!!! Strong of usa HAH HAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
+Sheriff Gurk In Soviet Russia, plane fly you!
A Potato I believe a 100-150 lb human fighting a 60,000-80,000 lb inanimate flying machine would be quite an unfair match for both parties.
MarlonBitoy pssh. Bruce Willis can. watch Live Free or Die Hard. That skinhead took down an F-35 with a semitruck
Was that jet in the hulk scene from the first avengers movie inspired by this or was this inspired by the avengers jet? Because the thruster looks exactly the same and it can hover like the one in the movie.
very good airplane
Having read about the technical parameters of the F-35 for the last hour, I am amazed this thing even turns on. This is by far the most complicated and technically advanced vehicle that has ever been made, by an order of magnitude.
I get that the plane has thrust vectoring but while it's hovering how are they able to control the left and right movement
hi, is this a simulation or real footage? thanks
Real footage
someone told me that the vertical take off and especially the landing uses up a huge amount of fuel so wouldn't be ever really be used over regular take off and landing, is this true?
VTOL won't be utilized unless its a "scramble" situation. Imagine packs of F-35 just rising from a Nimitz.....
make video f-35 vs su-57. who is greater
Awesome aircraft! Look like a turbo fan on top behind the pilot, thats for vertical landing? I subbed!
Aviatorspot Correct, but not turbo, driven by the jet engine in the rear,
Be the most fearless and best Pilot Air Force, but you know if you make one mistake with the F-35 just one and you don't need them make a mistake to get shot down
F 35 looks very cute!
side split doors like the rear ones would work just as well. if you were worried about induction you were wrong
Does a vertical take off use more fuel than using a runway?
What's the BIG turpine behind the cockpit? Why is it OPEN?
+NetRep It is the cover for the vertical blow fan -- used during vertical or short takeoff.
It's an F-35 hater bullshit shredder.
It's the vertical fan.
Awsome piece of engineering !
Really cool.
Great technique.👍😊
Do you think that the F35-b will be capable of vectored thrust ? it has the nozzle to do it
F-35 is also my favourite Aircraft after F-22 and Su-35
Why does the stabilator point down once its wheels are off on take off?
And to think we use to only have rocks and later on bow and arrow as a defense tool… sheesh humans are smart
That trunck door is an adefesio. .nice runway. .
2:15 is the best paint scheme on the f35
i love this aircraft
Would the open flab create drag ?
What is the consequence that flab malfunction, unable to close or worst case scenario , get detached and its raining
Or unable to open?
How about vertical take off to horizontal flight? Not do that yet?
