@@Ft5fTL lmao you talk is if Jimmy's driving is bad; that's a lot of force feedback on the wheels with basically 0 other inputs from the computer to give him any idea what's actually happening with the car. The food analogy doesn't count either simply because you're not a passenger the same way a customer eats a chef's food. You're just watching Jimmy cook. Michael Slack Jimmy is driving here the V12 Matra MS11 which competed in the ‘68 season. FIA rules on seatbelts were not introduced until four years later in 1972.

But it was a while before he could be removed and in the meantime drivers had to avoid his headless body lying on the track... I guess they'd never heard of a red flag back then. And then Alan Stacy was killed 5 laps later following a bird strike to the face. That old track was lethal!
I guess it's different for everyone I gotta agree with Anton VR even watching make it much more immersive shakes and bumps add to the immersion at least in my sake.
Thank you sir, for helping me wholeheartedly understand why the drivers boycotted this race for being too dangerous. Absolutely mad. Cannot wait to try this myself, although I do not hold any illusions about a podium.
I just discovered historic spa in pc2, it immediately became one of my favorite tracks. Very fun mix of high-speed straights and corners... I guess that was the trend back then, longer faster tracks.
My favorite era of F1 cars! I could watch an entire '67/'68 race season of you and your commentary in these cars. Absolutely mental that men drove these machines on those circuits! Great job!
7:25 It is probably Jean-Pierre Beltoise. Henri Pescarolo had a green helmet ;) Fun fact : Matra's boss Jean-Luc Lagardère was tired of not recognizing his drivers when Matra started in F3 so he asked them to bear the colours of the brand's missiles on their helmets. Beltoise kept the colours he had when he raced motorbikes because he was already in F2 but all the F3 drivers had to choose a colour. Pescarolo was the last to choose and green was the only colour left. This green helmet followed him throughout his entire racing career ! ^_^
Another fun fact: On the 6th of May 1973, Henri Pescarolo drove not only the fastest race lap on this old Spa circuit on one of the last ever held races on that course before it got rebuilt into the Spa we know today, it is also to this day the race lap with the highest average speed, going around the about 14km long track in just 3:13.4, for an average speed of 262,4kph!
The fastest ever record time of the old Spa circuit was, during the qualifying of the same race, the 1000 km of Spa '73, the pole position time of 3:12.7 (263.414 kph or 163.7 mph) by Jacky Ickx in a Ferrari 312PB. During the race, Henri Pescarolo's Matra 670B was trapped with a radar gun, coming out of the Masta kink ("by far the most difficult corner in the world", according to Jackie Stewart) they took full throttle, at 363 kph (225,56 mph) ! Pescarolo says he was at 300 kph, or 186 mph, in Burnenville, the long right corner (800m) before Malmedy and the Masta Straight ! Incredibly fast on bumpy roads used by everyday traffic the rest of the year ! That's why some drivers, like Jean-Pierre Beltoise or François Cevert, refused to race at the old Spa. And Jacky Stewart led a safety campaign, so that F1s never raced again at the old Spa after the 1970 GP.
Great race, and nice shoutout to Dan Gurney! I did a time-accelerated 24 Hours of Le Mans in Project Cars 2 a few days ago using Gurney and AJ Foyt's 1967 Le Mans winning #1 GT40 Mk IV as a tribute. The 1967 prototypes actually work pretty well on the modern Le Mans after shortening the gear ratios though I wish Historic Le Mans was there (it's possible for the upcoming Le Mans Icons DLC, but I'd also like Sebring... oh well.) Anyway, definitely gotta try this combo for myself, and I've never driven Historic Spa in any sim. Note to self: Save money for a VR-capable graphics card...

The racing is fantastic. The sound is amazing. Wouldn't hurt to let the sounds and action of the game speak for awhile. Thanks much and keep up the great work.
I've seen Jimmy race a lot of newer car sims. But watching this blog I have a new respect for his control skills. Fantastic. And yes, Dan Gurney was a great racer and innovator. R.I.P.

It’s hard enough to control these cars when you’re 100% focused, yet you can do it while providing commentary at the same time! You’re one talented fellow, Jimmy. 😮
I'm impressed that you actually finished a race in this car. These cars are absolute hell to drive. I prefer the Brabham whenever I feel like racing historics, it's actually driveable.

I love old Spa. Already watched racing there a bunch of times, it's crazy how the challenge back in the day was to survive one lap after the other. It was really fun to watch, but man, those cars were death traps.. those guys had balls of titanium. Great job btw, Jimmy. These 3 laps kept me at the edge of my sit the whole time.
When the whole sim racing world came online way back in 1997 (I think) We ran on TEN and laid the ground work for what is truly amazing racing that is available now. I used to run a sim called Grand Prix Legends. It was basically the same time frame of F1 in this video and my favorite track was Monza because it was so fast and the old original super long Nuerburgring (sp?) I have been trying to decide if I want to dive back into sim racing again. Watching this video has really got my interest up. It is so fluid and clean compared to the old days. I am a sprint car fan and will probably go iracing in the dirt track side. I spent about 15 years working on a 410 winged sprinter so I have a good understanding of how they work. I hope that will give me a slight advantage. Killer video and man the AI cars were freakin crazy out there. LOL Well done Jimmy!
Beautiful but hella scary looking track. People lining the track like it’s a rally! Can only imagine how awesome VR is driving this combo....flying hay bales and all! The energy, commentary and slippers....brilliant!!!
Grand Prix Legends..... this was my favorite track. I must have raced 400 to 500 hours on this track.....hardest damn track on the planet in a 1967, no wing car...Lotus 49 and Gurney Eagle, but, it was so much fun!
I just this video today, I met and got to know Dan Gurney through the one and only Phil Hill. ( 1961 F1 World Driving Champion ) My family was given tickets to the last 2 F1 races at Long Beach and that is where I met the man, he was one hell of a human being, he along with Phil Hill took me to a track day and worked with me for about 7 hours on things to make me a bit of a racer. Unfortunately I did not ever get anywhere. I had heard of his passing and was devastated now both of my racing heroes are long gone. Thank you Dan and Phil for the lessons on life and racing you gave me, I hope in the sim world I will do you both proud as I embark on that journey. Thanks to Jimmy Broadbent, it is he who has inspired me to try racing once again after more than 30 years.
I noticed people on the sides of the road, in real life did they watch that close, if they did there must have been some terrible deaths. Also that opening road was not straight. You are great at driving and commentary. Their has to be a way to fix the over steer. I know you said it was force feed back but I think it can be adjusted. Great Show.
Holy crap. I've seen less obstacles on the track in mario kart than that first lap. That was terrifying and amazing. And that v12 sound, errrrmaaagrrrd.
Incredible track. Not only were these men incredibly brave thier absolute trust in the team mechanics says volumes about the respect and love that must have existed within them.
I just wonder , if Sir Jackie Stewart would play this game, if he still had these skills and could feel the car and drive like in the 60s early 70s? That would be interesting to know. And What would he say about the handling of the simulation cars, if it's in the near of his time?
Yes, Dan Gurney was a class act. I briefly met and talked to him at an F5000 race at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in 1975. My sister had just spent a year at Leeds University and had given me a Leeds t-shirt which I was wearing at the race. That caught Dan's eye and he asked me if I had been there. After I told him that I hadn't he told me I ought to go to England as he really enjoyed the time he had spent there.
Holy hell that was a thriller. I was just trying to find some info on how good rf2 is in VR, but I had to stay for the whole race. Your narration is brilliant. How do you even do it while driving like that?! I'm not sure I could even form coherent sentences...
I know you probably get this type of thing a lot, but I’d like to see you do a bit of a series of modern F1 cars on historic circuits. Might be mildly lackluster for some circuits, but it could prove a different, unexpected challenge. Either way, love the vids and keep up the good work 😄
I remember trying a converted GPL Spa in the NR2003 Group C mod - brake twice a lap & lift once, and that old version had some rather tougher corners than it should. Can't imagine F1 being any different. Still got an install around, seems times were in the 2:20-2:30s which is bonkers. Not *awesomely* fun after a while though, with that little going on.
Brilliant Jimmy absolutely Brilliant Watching you was Terrifying what it must have been like driving in those days !!!!!!!!Thanks Jimmy keep up the good work mate
How can someone not like this vid? RIP to Dan Gurney. I did not know he passed. Followed him when he was a track hero back in the 60's. Danny Danger!!! And he lived to 86. Amazing.
I love your Nordschleife videos, but I have to say this has been the most entertaining track I've ever seen you drive. I'd like to see some other takes on this track, maybe with a few different more modern cars even though this configuration doesn't exist anymore. Just a really interesting, really organic track that looks as fun and exciting as it does terrifying.
Love these historic track races. Even without VR, I get nervous when you drive to close to walls, poles, people. And dang, these people are standing too close to the track.
You should really try Grand Prix Legends, the physics are amazing for a game of its age. Dunno how compatible with your gear is but it would be great to see.
Indeed, this reminded me of how I love GPL with the newer Spa67 track. Great to see such a combo available in more recent sims :) unfortunately I can't download the Spa 66 for Assetto Corsa, does anyone have an idea? (mediafire generates a key again and again)
To think about their safety standards back then it´s pure insanity, not only for the drives that zoomed through posts, fences and HOUSES! But the public actually just would stand next to the circuit, similar to rally, like, major respect for Jack Stewart for actually make a stand for safety and all.
WOWWW!!! Its more entertaining like actualy F1. Your legs technique whas great! You have Realy Old School Driving Skills XD Greatings From Argentina!!!
Before spraying champagne everywhere was tradition, Dan was given a bottle of champagne along with his partner AJ Foyt after their 1967 win at Le Mans. For them it actually made sense. Better to be thrown around than strapped to a bomb. At least such was opinion among those drivers.
They did wear seatbelts kinda... not a good one but they braked too hard so they had to stay against the seat
That would be the previous decade...these cars and drivers used restraints...

Can't imagine F1 being any different. Still got an install around, seems times were in the 2:20-2:30s which is bonkers. Not *awesomely* fun after a while though, with that little going on.
Drove a lap of this track yesterday in an Opel Astra
Loving all of your videos mate. This was one of the best! Well done!
Incredible driving and commentary as always Jimmy!
Insane driving. As usual! And still finding some time for that great commentary. Nice.
Brilliant Jimmy absolutely Brilliant Watching you was Terrifying what it must have been like driving in those days !!!!!!!!Thanks Jimmy keep up the good work mate
Not sure how I got here, but that looks amazing! Thrilling stuff! Thanks for the commentary.
Congrats on the setup :)
Awesome. I miss driving Grand Prix Legends. I don't remember the track being so aggressively bumpy like here.
I always thought VR was stupid. My nerdy friends wore the device and sat there staring at their own hands.... UNTIL THIS!. This is awesome!
VR running on a good simulator is the business.
Love these historic track races. Even without VR, I get nervous when you drive to close to walls, poles, people. And dang, these people are standing too close to the track.
Akmal Ibrahim FUN. is really serious thing back then
I love driving on those race tracks , it's lots of fun , one of the best
Woah, you survived that. Pure-Action-Cinema.
Just found this channel... this guys a laugh with his commentary and Old Spa is NUTS!!!!! 😂🤣
Bloody hell - you had to work hard for that! Epic job.
Kuh Pfau You tried to download it from actrackreboot? Never had a problem on this site.
Thanks, tried again, this time it worked! Might have been a temporary issue at mediafire.
Great stuff Jimmy! Love this car track combo.
Awesome Jimmy!
One of the Best YT Racers around!!!
Genuinely sound like Murray Walker in that vid. Looks so rapid as well. Amazing.
To think about their safety standards back then it´s pure insanity, not only for the drives that zoomed through posts, fences and HOUSES! But the public actually just would stand next to the circuit, similar to rally, like, major respect for Jack Stewart for actually make a stand for safety and all.
The people doing this in real life back in the day were absolutely CRAZY MAD
more 60s f1 on historic tracks please! best video i've seen in a while
That was so intense! Great race, Jimmer!
absolutely enjoyed this video - have not VR before and man-o-man does it look fun !!
Thanks for putting up such an awesome vid :-)
I just stumbled upon your video, and I must say this was incredibly amusing to watch!!!
This is why i loved (and still love ) GRAND PRIX LEGENDS.... its insane........
WOWWW!!! Its more entertaining like actualy F1. Your legs technique whas great! You have Realy Old School Driving Skills XD Greatings From Argentina!!!
This is awesome man! Great setup, and excellent commentary!
Before spraying champagne everywhere was tradition, Dan was given a bottle of champagne along with his partner AJ Foyt after their 1967 win at Le Mans. Henry Ford II, as well as his new young wife were standing around to celebrate. Dan Gurney thought this would be the perfect moment to shake the hell out of that champagne and spray everyone around him including Mr. and Mrs. Ford. So you're damn right Dan Gurney was an awesome dude.
The old boys of 20 years ago used to lock their elbows into their hips for courses like that. Obviously not an optoin with your set up, but it does work
I like this Spa... They should bring it back
Nice race, and commentator, like a pro...
