- My oh my. Old Spa is difficult enough on a single screen, but driving in VR brings a whole new respect for the insane men who drove here.

I still can't believe you can do these races blindfolded... You should see what we see! it's like virtual reality or something!
tito m ............ ..
tito rpm is this a joke...?
Obviously it's a joke you cretin.
A pretty good one according to the internet
ikr! I have been wondering how he can race while being blindfolded
2:13 "Look for that telegraph pole on the left... aim for that, throw it in" *pole whizzes by inches from the wheels*
Yep, that about sums up classic F1.
And why we love it🙌🙈
he cannot drive for shit and does not know anything. like left foot braking was impossible.
Cameron Pollock With that logic; if you don't know how to cook, you can't criticise a bad food.
Seems legit.
@@Ft5fTL lmao you talk is if Jimmy's driving is bad; that's a lot of force feedback on the wheels with basically 0 other inputs from the computer to give him any idea what's actually happening with the car. The food analogy doesn't count either simply because you're not a passenger the same way a customer eats a chef's food. You're just watching Jimmy cook. You actually don't know what the food tastes like.
Ft5fTL the difference is if somebody who doesn’t cook criticizes food it’s criticism of stuff everybody likes. Not everybody likes and analyzes Motorsport like jimmy does.
how the hell you can commentate so well while racing flat out is beyond me, great stuff Jimmy
Michael Zak i tend to race while talking to my girlfriend, Idk why but talking usually doesnt affect my concentration
yeah but who really listens to there girlfriend while shes talking lol
Michael Zak *raises hand* lol
Michael Zak *2 weeks later*
/r/rleationships, why am I always single???
barney rubble believe it or not, she kinda likes the racing
These guys must be nuts racing giant gokart with v12 on literally mountain road back in the 60s.
Nick Wang sounds fun to me
@@larrythecat5743 you know how dangerous that was
@@larrythecat5743 you know how many drivers lost their lives in that f1 era?
@@WilliamMoscato-jw4hx I do and you should know that I am a extreme thrill seeker
That sounds fkn awesome to me
Jimmy ''I use loafers to look like Ayrton Senna when he drove that NSX'' Broadbent
The guys who drove these machines without even wearing seatbelts had balls of steel.
For them it actually made sense. Better to be thrown around than strapped to a bomb. At least such was opinion among those drivers.
They did wear seatbelts kinda... not a good one but they braked too hard so they had to stay against the seat
That would be the previous decade...these cars and drivers used restraints...
Michael Slack Jimmy is driving here the V12 Matra MS11 which competed in the ‘68 season. FIA rules on seatbelts were not introduced until four years later in 1972.
Thank you
This car vs historic Monaco.
No prizes for swimming.
Yeah!
na the TT
jontyoldmanface 😂
LOL
6:15 - To think, some of that barbed wire beheaded Chris Bristow in the 1960 Belgian GP...
But it was a while before he could be removed and in the meantime drivers had to avoid his headless body lying on the track... I guess they'd never heard of a red flag back then.
And then Alan Stacy was killed 5 laps later following a bird strike to the face.
That old track was lethal!
Wow I can only imagine the commentators then acting as if nothing happened!
A fish out of water pretty sure there wre no commentators back then lmao, F1 was barely starting up in those years
Wow that's disturbing. At least it would be pretty quick (both of those). O.o
f1 was commentated from the beginning! before TV boom of the 60s by radio
@@pbrosselin Motosport was commentated from the start via radio before TV
RIP Dan Gurney
He invented the champagne spraying when you win the race..
ArmadiloBil He actually did??
F1 is Life 77 yes, he was the first to do it at Le Mans when he and AJ Foyt won in 1967.
That's not true, he just popularized it, there are records of other drivers doing it before, no one actually knows who did it first.
Wasn't a frenchman in the 1930's who won Le Mans the first one to do that?😅 Gurney still a legend though didn't always get the results he deserved.
yep. his company, all american racers, also built the landing legs on SpaceX's rockets.
Jimmy "Using VR" Broadbent
i think its much better watching VR. So much more immersive.
I guess it's different for everyone I gotta agree with Anton VR even watching make it much more immersive shakes and bumps add to the immersion at least in my sake.
"Thanks i guess but also stop that" lmao
you definately have a gift for making a sim race really exciting to watch, cracking job.
Watching this... I realize how good was Jim Clark.
Wow...finally took the time to watch this...I'm exhausted. I was holding my breath and tensing up through the whole thing. Nuts!
Your voice and enthousiasm reminds me of Murray Walker! You should be contacted by Sky to comment current F1 races along with Martin Brundle!
Alexander Degroote, no, they have Croft
Croft is shit, I think everyone who knows F1 also knows that.
@@masonsparkle so is a lisping guy
*Senna and Prost crash*
Murray: “This is fantastic!"
That would be boring, since the races are boring ! This is how it should be..this is 100% more entertaining to look at than modern F1 !
That is so beatiful, it's like playing dodgeball with chainsaws
Hahahaha wtf
Like juggling vials of nitroglycerin. Like surfing a tsunami. Like bullfighting a polar bear. Like arguing with the Mrs.
Clarkson-esque metaphor right there
Thank you sir, for helping me wholeheartedly understand why the drivers boycotted this race for being too dangerous. Absolutely mad. Cannot wait to try this myself, although I do not hold any illusions about a podium.
Joy to watch this one. Beautiful track, beautiful colors, insane racing, your enthusiasm and ability to talk so fast while driving at the limits.
You are so much fun to listen to when you’re driving. And the more broken the car and track the more fun you are! Keep up the great show sir!
My favorite era of F1 cars! I could watch an entire '67/'68 race season of you and your commentary in these cars. Absolutely mental that men drove these machines on those circuits! Great job!
Great race, and nice shoutout to Dan Gurney! I did a time-accelerated 24 Hours of Le Mans in Project Cars 2 a few days ago using Gurney and AJ Foyt's 1967 Le Mans winning #1 GT40 Mk IV as a tribute. The 1967 prototypes actually work pretty well on the modern Le Mans after shortening the gear ratios though I wish Historic Le Mans was there (it's possible for the upcoming Le Mans Icons DLC, but I'd also like Sebring... oh well.) Anyway, definitely gotta try this combo for myself, and I've never driven Historic Spa in any sim.
Note to self: Save money for a VR-capable graphics card...
I just discovered historic spa in pc2, it immediately became one of my favorite tracks. Very fun mix of high-speed straights and corners... I guess that was the trend back then, longer faster tracks.
That V12 is the best sounding thing in the known universe.
No.
The Ferrari in gp legends was great sounding too

Underrated channel, keep up the good work mate! This is fun watching you drive, especially with VR. :D
7:25 It is probably Jean-Pierre Beltoise. Henri Pescarolo had a green helmet ;)
Fun fact : Matra's boss Jean-Luc Lagardère was tired of not recognizing his drivers when Matra started in F3 so he asked them to bear the colours of the brand's missiles on their helmets. Beltoise kept the colours he had when he raced motorbikes because he was already in F2 but all the F3 drivers had to choose a colour. Pescarolo was the last to choose and green was the only colour left. This green helmet followed him throughout his entire racing career ! ^_^
Another fun fact: On the 6th of May 1973, Henri Pescarolo drove not only the fastest race lap on this old Spa circuit on one of the last ever held races on that course before it got rebuilt into the Spa we know today, it is also to this day the race lap with the highest average speed, going around the about 14km long track in just 3:13.4, for an average speed of 262,4kph!
The fastest ever record time of the old Spa circuit was, during the qualifying of the same race, the 1000 km of Spa '73, the pole position time of 3:12.7 (263.414 kph or 163.7 mph) by Jacky Ickx in a Ferrari 312PB. During the race, Henri Pescarolo's Matra 670B was trapped with a radar gun, coming out of the Masta kink ("by far the most difficult corner in the world", according to Jackie Stewart) they took full throttle, at 363 kph (225,56 mph) ! Pescarolo says he was at 300 kph, or 186 mph, in Burnenville, the long right corner (800m) before Malmedy and the Masta Straight ! Incredibly fast on bumpy roads used by everyday traffic the rest of the year ! That's why some drivers, like Jean-Pierre Beltoise or François Cevert, refused to race at the old Spa. And Jacky Stewart led a safety campaign, so that F1s never raced again at the old Spa after the 1970 GP.
Yes. That's definitely Beltoise @ 7:25. Didn't know the missile story. Thanks for the lesson. Love that sort of thing.
Cars of that era were just so beautiful! Great video, Jimmy. Love it
I absolutely love sim racing in my rig. I love going to track days in my Miata NB, and when I can't I really enjoy your videos. I hope there is nothing but success in your future, and that your future is in Motorsports. Well done!
So awesome. Takes me back to Grand Prix Legends. I didn't realize rFactor 2 had this.
Now this is a pure, raw, racing, great sound, drift, and telegraph poles ... as close to a real death race as posible, great setup with force-feedback, pedals, wheel and VR. Perfect. GG Looks FUN !
Best SIM racing RUclipsr imo just got into this whole world with project cars 2 and I'm addicted haha
Phenomenal race! This alone has convinced me I need to experience RFactor 2!
It’s hard enough to control these cars when you’re 100% focused, yet you can do it while providing commentary at the same time! You’re one talented fellow, Jimmy. 😮
That was absolutely amazing!! Some of them spectators were nearly as crazy as the drivers👍🏼
Loving all of your videos mate. This was one of the best! Well done!
I love old Spa. Already watched racing there a bunch of times, it's crazy how the challenge back in the day was to survive one lap after the other. It was really fun to watch, but man, those cars were death traps.. those guys had balls of titanium.
Great job btw, Jimmy. These 3 laps kept me at the edge of my sit the whole time.
This is awesome man! Great setup, and excellent commentary!
Incredible driving and commentary as always Jimmy!
Just discovered your channel, I've developed an addiction to your VR racing videos. Really enjoy them !
If I may contribute one small critique, it is this. The footage is amazing. The racing is fantastic. The sound is amazing. Wouldn't hurt to let the sounds and action of the game speak for awhile. Thanks much and keep up the great work.
Subscribed after that. Very entertaining. Looked like you were constantly on the edge!
This was the first JB video I ever watched and I like to come back and rewatch it from time to time because it's so entertaining, what a couple of years it's been for Jimmer since then. Looking forward to many more years of great content
Not sure how I got here, but that looks amazing! Thrilling stuff! Thanks for the commentary.
Congrats on the setup :)
Insane driving. As usual! And still finding some time for that great commentary. Nice.
I'm impressed that you actually finished a race in this car. These cars are absolute hell to drive. I prefer the Brabham whenever I feel like racing historics, it's actually driveable.
Beautiful but hella scary looking track. People lining the track like it’s a rally! Can only imagine how awesome VR is driving this combo....flying hay bales and all! The energy, commentary and slippers....brilliant!!!
Great stuff Jimmy! Love this car track combo.
He doesnt stop talking..man wow!
He sure don't!
@@Jimmy_Broadbent that's why your commentary is so good. No dead air. Hilarious comments

@x15adam "Don't let one hater change your formula" pun intended?
Terrifying
I just this video today, I met and got to know Dan Gurney through the one and only Phil Hill. ( 1961 F1 World Driving Champion ) My family was given tickets to the last 2 F1 races at Long Beach and that is where I met the man, he was one hell of a human being, he along with Phil Hill took me to a track day and worked with me for about 7 hours on things to make me a bit of a racer. Unfortunately I did not ever get anywhere. I had heard of his passing and was devastated now both of my racing heroes are long gone. Thank you Dan and Phil for the lessons on life and racing you gave me, I hope in the sim world I will do you both proud as I embark on that journey. Thanks to Jimmy Broadbent, it is he who has inspired me to try racing once again after more than 30 years.
I've seen Jimmy race a lot of newer car sims. But watching this blog I have a new respect for his control skills. Fantastic. And yes, Dan Gurney was a great racer and innovator. R.I.P.
absolutely enjoyed this video - have not VR before and man-o-man does it look fun !!
Thanks for putting up such an awesome vid :-)
appreciate how you honor the drivers of the past with stuff like this. really cool.
I have LOLed at your videos before, but never this hard. What a blast watching you
I just stumbled upon your video, and I must say this was incredibly amusing to watch!!!
One hell of a save when you go into the grass and I couldn't believe you fought it back onto the pavement. Freakin' incredible bud!
I thought for sure you were done for. You might have become a statistic on that one. You were haulin' ass.
I love how you can see the weight transfer under braking. That whole race was so intense.
I caught myself forgetting to breath and I was just watching.
You are a drivin' fool Jimmy! The video was kick ass.
Great race, and video. I love historic racing content
Grand Prix Legends..... this was my favorite track. I must have raced 400 to 500 hours on this track.....hardest damn track on the planet in a 1967, no wing car...Lotus 49 and Gurney Eagle, but, it was so much fun!
Woooeee that was superb, no idea how you managed to talk all the way through that! Subscribed!
great video , great skills ... a better watch than the entire f1 season ;)
Nice race, and commentator, like a pro...
What a drive man!
I’m jealous of your VR.
Good job mate.
Incredible track. Not only were these men incredibly brave thier absolute trust in the team mechanics says volumes about the respect and love that must have existed within them.
After seeing one of your other mad Historic Spa vids, I had to give a lot of the older cars a go and oh boy they are so much fun, but they can get so scary at times 😍🤩
You are a true entertainer. I could listen to you race all day. Don’t stop!
Holy crap. I've seen less obstacles on the track in mario kart than that first lap. That was terrifying and amazing. And that v12 sound, errrrmaaagrrrd.
Yeah, this is the closest I've seen a racing sim be to Mario Kart, absolute madness!
Woah, you survived that. Pure-Action-Cinema.
Oh man, forgot how much I like these cars in RF2. Great Video thank you for sharing.
15 subs from 60k! pre congrats. that pass on the grass to avoid the accident was amazing. the reaction time
That was so intense! Great race, Jimmer!
Just watching this was tense... really cool stuff!
When the whole sim racing world came online way back in 1997 (I think) We ran on TEN and laid the ground work for what is truly amazing racing that is available now. I used to run a sim called Grand Prix Legends. It was basically the same time frame of F1 in this video and my favorite track was Monza because it was so fast and the old original super long Nuerburgring (sp?) I have been trying to decide if I want to dive back into sim racing again. Watching this video has really got my interest up. It is so fluid and clean compared to the old days. I am a sprint car fan and will probably go iracing in the dirt track side. I spent about 15 years working on a 410 winged sprinter so I have a good understanding of how they work. I hope that will give me a slight advantage. Killer video and man the AI cars were freakin crazy out there. LOL Well done Jimmy!
your foot work is very nice. love it!!!
I wish they would make a new GP Legends game.
Very few games from the 90s still hold up today. But that game somehow manages it.
pipnina it does, because it is brilliant
epic racing ,my heart still beating hard. nice one Jimmy !
more 60s f1 on historic tracks please! best video i've seen in a while
Awesome Jimmy!
One of the Best YT Racers around!!!
Man, everytime i click on a random position on any your videos its immediately entertaining and immersive!
would love to see some more of the old stuff... its nice to see that nobody has forgotten these great drivers... better than us rally lot id say
This was brilliant!! Subbed!!
Bloody hell - you had to work hard for that! Epic job.
I noticed people on the sides of the road, in real life did they watch that close, if they did there must have been some terrible deaths. Also that opening road was not straight. You are great at driving and commentary. Their has to be a way to fix the over steer. I know you said it was force feed back but I think it can be adjusted. Great Show.
This has to be one of the best videos on RUclips.
Just been watching Jimmys 7th anniversary stream and came back here to relive where it all started for me. What an amazing journey its been.

as always. love the vids. 1 thing. can you make them a longer boii by like 10-15 mins. thanks
I know you probably get this type of thing a lot, but I’d like to see you do a bit of a series of modern F1 cars on historic circuits. Might be mildly lackluster for some circuits, but it could prove a different, unexpected challenge. Either way, love the vids and keep up the good work 😄
I remember trying a converted GPL Spa in the NR2003 Group C mod - brake twice a lap & lift once, and that old version had some rather tougher corners than it should. Can't imagine F1 being any different. Still got an install around, seems times were in the 2:20-2:30s which is bonkers. Not *awesomely* fun after a while though, with that little going on.
Really enjoyed the addition of obstacles on the course.
Brilliant. Laughed my ears off in lap 1.
I just wonder , if Sir Jackie Stewart would play this game, if he still had these skills and could feel the car and drive like in the 60s early 70s? That would be interesting to know. And What would he say about the handling of the simulation cars, if it's in the near of his time?
Just found this channel... this guys a laugh with his commentary and Old Spa is NUTS!!!!! 😂🤣
I love your Nordschleife videos, but I have to say this has been the most entertaining track I've ever seen you drive. I'd like to see some other takes on this track, maybe with a few different more modern cars even though this configuration doesn't exist anymore. Just a really interesting, really organic track that looks as fun and exciting as it does terrifying.
"aim for the telegraph pole" seems about right
Brilliant Jimmy absolutely Brilliant Watching you was Terrifying what it must have been like driving in those days !!!!!!!!Thanks Jimmy keep up the good work mate
Yes, Dan Gurney was a class act. I briefly met and talked to him at an F5000 race at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in 1975. My sister had just spent a year at Leeds University and had given me a Leeds t-shirt which I was wearing at the race. That caught Dan's eye and he asked me if I had been there. After I told him that I hadn't he told me I ought to go to England as he really enjoyed the time he had spent there.
@ 7:15 , Great job avoiding that hornets nest of a mess.. You just missed that barrier on the inside too... Racing Lunacy!! Hahaha
Genuinely sound like Murray Walker in that vid. Looks so rapid as well. Amazing.
Awesome. I miss driving Grand Prix Legends. I don't remember the track being so aggressively bumpy like here.
That was awesome. What a ride 😍 love the vids 👍👏👏👏✌️
Old day F1 was something else... Just imagine having a telegraph pole a metre from the racetrack today 🤣
Great stuff brother. I am trying to learn to be a better racer by playing a couple games. I'm not up to VR yet and its super hard already. Kudos man. Good job.
Can you do a modern f1 car around historic spa or a 60s f1 car around modern spa for a future vid?
perhaps both in one video with timestamps?
Modern F1 car around historic Spa is pretty boring, the only braking point being la source
