    Great work Abby and RTINGS! Thanks for the in-depth review of the Bravia 7!
    It would be great to have some confirmation if the Bravia 7 supports full 4:4:4 chroma subsampling at 4K 120hz with HDR/VRR enabled in both Game and PC mode. The Mediatek Pentonic 1000 SoC is likely to support this.

      Rtings doesn't know this stuff. They clearly just have their formula and everything has to be OLED. Rtings is only interesting to see some measurement results. Their scoring makes zero sense. They value certain aspects more and that affect scoring when in reality for you or me that might have much less bearing on the score.

    • @Emptrix
      @Emptrix 3 месяца назад

      @@Swecan76 Totally, I get your point and I don't rely too much on the scoring as well. It is difficult to please everyone when trying to adjust scoring formula. And yes, RTINGS are very useful for their measurement results which I've appreciated since 2016. Before discovering RTINGS, I had to bring my Laptop along with me to several stores just to test for full 4:4:4 chroma subsampling support and other aspects of picture quality via playing several test clips on each of the TVs on my consideration list just to finalize my buying decisions.
      I hope Rtings adds this additional test since there were stability and compatibility issues with this in the previous years as reported by multiple owners of several TVs.

    • @Emptrix
      @Emptrix 3 месяца назад

      @@Swecan76 I hope they implement the tests for this. It'll help us PC users since HDR and VRR can be problematic in previous TVs to get working with full 4:4:4 chroma.
      Otherwise, we'll have to wait for Vincent who seems to be busy with tech shows this month. It'll probably be weeks before his reviews are available.

    The U8 isn't better because upscaling is a BIG thing. Unless you watch exclusive 4k content, MOST content is 720P and 1080P and needs upscaled.
    144Hz is nearly useless because No console on the market can game higher than 120Hz, so ignore the 144hz unless you plan to use it as a computer monitor and you have a graphics card like a 4080 or 7900XTX to even Reach 144Hz at 4K.
    it's really not fair to compare it to an OLED just because of price. There is also a B4 OLED that's even cheaper than the C4... Compare LED to LED... I think Rtings just kind of "hate reviews" Sony products.
    They ALWAYS recommend something else instead. The Bravia 8 is WAY better than the review they gave it here as well.. Sometimes they just look at numbers and think that tells the whole story, like the 144hz business.. its nearly useless but they make it out to be WAY better..... its not.

    Good review. I purchased the Bravia 7 over the Bravia 9 because I needed the 55" size in my living room. I replaced a 7 year old Sony TV that started the back light pulsing. I have to say this TV isn't perfect and the viewing angles are the only negative that I only sometimes notice. From a technical perspective Sony nocks it out of the park with image processing. Sony just does it best IMO. I've watched other friends TVs and viewed Samsung and LGs offering in stores and the Sony images just look better to my eyes. After all I'm the one that's viewing it. I only need the use of one HDMI 2.1 port as this will not be my gaming TV and will only have a Sonos system plugged in. For me this was the best TV offered in the 55" Inch category. I would have gone Bravia 9 if it had a 55" offering.

    I've had this TV for a week now, and I can honestly say I don’t see any issues with off angle viewing or reflections. Obviously, the screen has some reflection when it is off, but once it is on, there isn't an issue. I mean, if you are watching a very dark movie, while sittting in a brightly lit room, with bay windows, and every light in the house on there may be an issue, but that's what blinds and light switches are for. Picture processing is amazing in SDR and HDR. Upon rewatching some movies, I saw details and textures I didn’t know existed. Colors are very vibrant in SDR and HDR. Streaming even looks close or on par with disc. Gaming mode also looks great after a few minor adjustments. I thought my 2018 Vizio P65-f1 looked great, but after staring at this TV for a week, I may have been very wrong. If you get this TV you will not be disappointed. I'm convinced that they review these TVs in some absurd lighting conditions and from angles no one will ever be watching from.

    Very disappointing TV for the money especially when you compare it to the competition as shown at the end of the video. They still haven't fixed their lackluster gaming performance and features compared to TVs much cheaper too. I was excited for this TV but it's another disappointing set unless you exclusively watch movies. Cheaper brands are far better for gaming and at least on par for regular TV content.

      @techsamurai11 they have lower input lag, for example the Samsungs and LGs have around ~5ms input lag at 4k120 whereas the Sony's have 10ms. I own a Sony TV currently and I can definitely feel the difference in responsiveness despite it being only millisecond differences. The Samsungs and LGs also have ~10ms input lag at 4K60 which is 6ms below one frame at 60hz whereas Sony has 17ms which is above one frame of input lag.
      Also support for 144hz and way more HDMI 2.1 ports which is good if you own a Gaming PC, eARC soundbar and console which require 3 ports.

So if having all four HDMI ports be 2.1 compatible is important to you then you might want to wait another year to upgrade.

I primarily use my TV for watching films on bluray (standard and 4k discs), streaming through all the standard apps and sport (4k when available). No gaming. I’ve calibrated it to Rtings recommendations but honestly out of the box it was pretty close. Does it have some reflection during the day when it’s full sunny, yes but it’s honestly not annoying or something that affects the viewing experience. Is there blooming, yes but honestly only if your really looking for it and when I say looking for it’s totally not a factor. Viewing angle isn’t that bad either. I feel like these things are big beat ups and really great to know but in real world factors not an issue.

Blacks are the biggest jump. In all aspects the tv is better from the OS to the performance. Sound was a big one too when playing through my Denon amp or recently when I updated to the Q990d. All formats play as well even from my USB with it passing HD master audio.
      The biggest Ick I have is the viewing angle it really does wash out if you’re not off centre but again not a factor. It’s just because I’m aware and look for it.

Grossly expensive, not very good QLEDs which are still nowhere near its own OLEDs, no models other than arguably the 9 better than the G4 or even the now vastly reduced C3, and the 9 not available below 75" outside of the US.

    The viewing angles kill this TV because unlike the X90L which launched at $1,299 and dropped at $1,099, it's nearly double the price with better local dimming and more brightness (the X90L is decent). It's unacceptable at that price range... They should have gone with an ADS Pro, AUO, or even an IPS panel. It's insanity.

    Moving the eARC port off the HDMI 2.1 makes it worthless for a HDMI 2.1 receiver. Since it now no longer can output 120hz or VRR etc. So anyone with a good high end Receiver would be SOL. using a U8N. Not everyone uses a soundbar. This would be the reason why Sony don't move that port.

I have had so many problems with ABL kicking in on my OLED. And the sdr brightness is laughable. I'm getting the Bravia 9. You really need to figure out what you prioritize. If it's pixel response, you want an OLED. If you want HDR pop, mini led. Oleds still struggle to come out of pure black to gray and suffer from black crush. When gaming, I've had issues not seeing people in dark corners due to this. I made a video on my channel covering my thought process
