The day that Dart Zone released a free file, for printing a lefty holster for the mk2, was the day that I realized there is atleast one big nationally available company that respects the modding/maker community.

@@FrancisCastiglione Few factors as to why
      1. Doesn't have the same resources that Hasbro and X Shot has
      2. Is still a relatively unheard of company into what is essentially a niche community
      3. Airsoft and Paintball overshadowing Darts, so nto quite the same demand
      4. International markets and their varying guns laws, because apparently gun laws dictates how strong a dart blaster must be sold
      Could be wrong

    YES DOCTOR, PREACH IT
I just built a Skewer with my 10yo - he loves all kinds of blasters but now this one is his baby. He learned how a sealed barrel works, and picked up a bunch of mechanical skills along the way. It's an extremely special experience.
Plenty of families are probably fine with some of the better quality off-the shelf options, but I wish way more families would move towards DIY routes once they want to step up a notch.

Hasbro truly doesn’t care - they just need to have legal protection for when you change the blaster in a way that their warnings don’t address. They would rather sell you a blaster that you then mod than not sell a blaster at all.

Thank you for talking about STEM and kids. I offered to buy my 8yo nephew(who along a his cousin got me first interested in blaster and this hobby) a 3D printer and my mother and little sister laughed and kinda looked at me weird(probably because im deep in an online Goodwill nerf auctions addiction and my basement is bursting w blasters) but my point in doing it was that my nephew is extremely intelligent and if using his toys to get him into math, science, and useful technology AND occupies his time in a constructive way that possibly leads to a college degree or 2. Well heres a great way..anyways this video has convinced to break forgot about Goodwill and get that printer...and like 20something motors from Out of Darts lol.. Great video Doctor..

Even printing blasters for the sake of function in a child or family friendly backyard battle is worth it!
I have a Skewer, and though I run it with a scar, Kuryaka barrel, and SF25TC spring, I can also switch to an aluminium barrel and AF Liberator spring in order to bring it down to 90-110FPS. That turns it from a competitive springer to a safer and sweet backyard blaster of choice when playing with the kids or family members who aren't keen on competitive play!

You know, it’s a pretty valid point because if you compare a fully customizable blaster and stock blaster, the difference is night and day but to me there’s a certain feeling of accomplishment when I turn cheap blaster into something awesome. For example my first mod was your redux kit for the knockout and I loved the feeling when I turned a cheap good will single shot rival jolt and making into a 3 shot 130 fps side arm beast. I do respect the 3d printing community and I think it’s amazing with what some people make like the springthunder caliburn and others but I just love modifying stock blasters.

I think the biggest reason why Nerf refuses modding is because they want to ensure their brand of being a toy company. Dart Zone can get away with being a hobby company and their limited regions, but with Hasbro and their international markets with varying laws towards ballistics, it sort of makes sense that they'll do this
After all, don't want lawsuits about your blasters causing welts on kids, right?

    • @bricktonmcbricks3969

I jumped into 3d printing specifically for Nerf and I absolutely love it. It is so nice to be able print something out and assemble the entire blaster... such an enjoyable experience ... On a side note in regards to your statement of PETG being brittle, I was bit surprised by this. In my experience and limited research on the topic I found it's actually very much the opposite that PLA is rigid and will shatter, but PETG will actually flex a bit and not really shatter.... 'CNC Kitchen' right here on RUclips has a really good video on this.

That's great and all, but what Nerf really needs isn't more engineers. The whole community is nothing but engineers and it isn't even a contest of reflexes and skill but a contest of engineering. Nerf needs players, not people who spend 99% of their hobby time designing and less than 1% of their time playing. Although I am not anti-engineer, realistically, all these engineers make it harder to organize fair games and harder to get people into nerf.

Simple, they lobby for laws. Within 10 years I bet 3D printing will be illegal. They already made it illegal to make real weapons with 3D printing. So, only some minor changes to exsisting laws next it's all projectile based prints. And the way things move when there's money and push behind it, I could see it illegal by 2026. Worker and Primetime Toys already make better blasters. And the last time a company made a better Nerf blaster, AKA boomco. Their darts are far more durable and reuseable compared to Hasbro's, also more accurate. Hasbro lobbied to have the rules changed for what a toy projectile could be. Which happened to be what the elite dart is. For whatever reason, that option is cheaper then just making products people want to buy.
Hasbro is a toy company with 40-60 year old IPs. Transformers, Nerf, Marvel, Star Wars, MTG.
Hasbro bleeds the MTG community dry. Magic the Gathering is a very expensive hobby. And it's very obvious they pay attention to after market sales or else they'd reprint more cards more often. But they don't. Instead, I'm pretty sure some people with a lazy desk job has a shoebox full of old cards they intend to keep the value high on. And I'm not talking about Black Lotus. Black Lotus is kinda, meh today.
Marvel products flooded so much it contributed to Toys R Us shut down. Hasbro doesn't care, just sell more build a figures and bulk no one wants.
Star Wars has a similar problem to Marvel, but with more scapling.
Transformers, OMG hasbro has said they hate their adult audience because they want to sell to kids, to them, kids are dumb and will buy anything. Especially at the time when 1 step changers were cheaply made and being pushed. AND EXPENSIVE for hollow plastic! But their adult audience wants "quality". They atleast came to their senses since kids don't buy transformers like that anymore. Most transformers fans are adults. Kids like video games not phyiscal media.
And Nerf. The actural fact they refuse to make accurate darts for "safety" reasons. Is dumb. They don't want to make short darts, but they'll make rival and rival hyper which are both argubly smaller. But no, they want you to buy THEIR crap. Listen, I'd buy Nerf darts if they where accurate compared to their competators. But as of now, they're not. And if they make them, they're gonna be in a pack of 30 for 20 bucks! Build quality has dropped like a rock too! So, I give Adventure Force a pass because it's Walmart, the blasters are all 10 dollars cheaper then their nerf equilvilant. Like the villianator is under 30 bucks, 40 round drum, 80-90 fps, super comfortble, the nerf version is what? the Surgefire varients? Which is all 15 rounds 60-70 fps? And is (the shockwave elite 2.0) 27 bucks?! 7 more dollars then the villianator? Is nerf dumb? I get profit margins, but... increase the drum size, give us more power, something! "They did it's called Ultra" Ultra is terrible. Ultra is bad and needs to go sit in the corner. The most accurate Ultra darts are as accurate as an elite dart. They're made of styrofoam and need to be nearly brand new to use in some blasters. Like the Ultra One. Anyone who says Ultra is good is... well, there's a handful of people who use ultra blasters for some reason. BUT I'm pretty sure there's more people who use Vortex rings and discs then Ultra blasters.

I fine this video very bias and invalid for a lot of his comparisons.

This is a dumb take, Hasbro isn't doing anything to prevent people from knowing about 3D printing. On a side note, the reason why they don't want people to modify their blasters is because they are marketed towards children and don't want to get in any legal issues. Hate to be negative but I think this video is a bit bs.

But tbf, most of their blasters are kinda bland and boring, so that’s why nerfers modify them (idk I just wanted to say that 🤷🏽‍♂️)

Yes I know... realistically nerf/Hasbro doesn't care. they just use the warnings to protect themselves. In the end I'm pretty certain Hasbro doesn't want to be associated with 3dprinted nerf blasters. When someone misuses a 3d printed nerf blaster and it ends up on the news it will be a Hasbro PR nightmare even if the blaster has nothing to do with nerf. To the average person its a nerf bullet.
