With the current political climate today, I was actually afraid of reading comments. I'm so pleased to see that so many people support Joan. She truly is a goddess.
The part about having the same build, same hair, always reminds me of my wife and I when we first got together in our late teens. Androgynous was always how we were described- how she looked despite being a girl, how I looked despite being a guy. but In the end, it turned out we were both girls after all, It was just that for the longest time- I didn't know I was allowed to do that.
This song was a pivotal moment in my gender expression and will never forget it. First time I heard the word androgynous and made me feel safe that it was okay to be that way. I remember using the quote ‘he might be a father but he sure ain’t a dad’ in my school essay as my dad didn’t understand me and it was a perfect way to write down my view on him. Will always love Joan Jett and will come back every few years to remind myself where I came from and all the happy memories and struggles I found along the way
Joan, I first saw you in Madrid new mexico 1981? At the baseball field by the mines. It was a small gathering but, I will never forget. Your beauty, punk rock, everything, gave me a reason to breathe. Ironically, i think we are the same age. I'm having gran Mal seizures with spellchecker hoho long story short JOAN JETT
aww this video is so sweet.. I didn't understand it at first but then I noticed that the younger girl had a resemblence to Joan, and the younger couple did the same thing with their thumbs as joan and the dude did at the end.. SWEET ^_^
It's a great song by both bands. Like you said Paul and Joan are friends and have appeared on each others recordings several times. Joan and the mats are both legends.
I never get tired of this song or video. its so pure and real. joan is amazing and has a great voice. i hope she keeps making albums for a few more years.
@@KerryRobertson-lq3zbCrash Test Dummies did cover this song, but they didn't write it. The song was written by Paul Westerberg and is on the 1984 album Let it Be by The Replacements, and stands out as the anthem it became on an album full of punk rock sensibilities. Cheers!
The Replacements are of the greatest rock-n-roll entities of all time...I'm a bit biased being from MPLS and being born in 70...but seriously, true rock-n-roll in the footsteps of Bowie, The New York Dolls, The Stones, influenced Nirvana and that whole late 80s 90s seatle scene big time plus mucho mas...
she's singing the song as an adult looking back on a rough patch of her life (which turned out fine). westerberg was singing it from the perspective of the teen going thru it at the time, thus the pain.
i love this song!!! joan is such a great and amazing artist!!! i went to my first concert this year and of course i chose to see her!!!! since May of this year ive seen her 3 times and i cant wait until she comes back towards where i live!!!! Keep up the great work and stay safe joan! -Brooke :O)
my friend sent this to me and said," watch very closely and tell me what you recognize" the video was literally shot at my middle school im freaking out
God...I love that smile at 1:24 and the one at 2:44..I saw her countless times many years ago, and she still looks great !!! Thanks CthulhuXIII for the " guy in the back" clarification. I never would have guessed it was John Doe from X ( another awesome band !! )
In hindsight this song while it's from the 1980s is way ahead of its time, and the music video today would be attacked by crazy people even though it's from 2009
jane doe has been an author and illustrator for more than 20 years, with the rare ability to transform her personal tragedies info triumphs for children of all ages. She currently lives in her home with her long time boyfriend Dick Head of the seminal rock band Dickhead! and their children in the mountains of upstate new york.
true, the video isnt angsty. it's just sweet. it's just a hopeful, nice version that puts you in a better mood after you watch/listen to it. how dare they (?)
Vcs podiam remasterizar os clips antigos para fhd e 4k. Amo muito esse som e video. Uma pena estar em uma qualidade de imagem tão ruim pros dispositivos atuais
It's like 1987 all over again! Hard to believe that song was written 40 years ago, when boys were still being razed for "looking like girls" after 20 years of simply emulating the same rock gods the girls their age were into, and girls were still being razed for cutting their hair short - over the same 20 years since Vogue models like Edie Sedgwick & Twiggy, et al, & actress Mia Farrow (among others) first made it trendy to scoff at the carefully coiled coifs of their mothers' (those being such a complicated laborious time sucking money drain that they, too, would eventually opt to crop their locks in favor of easily donning readily changeable pre-styled WIGS in the fashions du jour, lol). Anyway, Joan looks awesome. I'm glad she has a new release, & its nice that the former 70s Runaway from L.A. still succeeds despite her mercurial career choice. It's also nice that she paid respect to her punk grandad by giving X's John Doe a cameo (if minus eXene). I also hope this credit helps former Replacements (aka Mats) lead, Paul Westerberg, who wrote the song & put it on their album, Let it Be, in the 80s, where I heard it first at age 15 (& still sing aloud to today). Since, even being a moderately successful rock act thru your 20s is no guarantee of comfort for those that survive into their senior years.
Damn!! - Joan is lookin smokin hot!! And anything that puts a few quid into the Replacements coffers is a good thing right? It's a win - win guys - " What's so funny 'bout peace love and understanding." ???
a clean audio-only version of the Replacements version was finally posted. check it out. /watch?v=J8RlCt8IafE while I love Joan's version, I still prefer the original... so much more passion and heartfelt angst.
Maybe because she is an American? Not all of us see in strict black-white terms. That you accuse us of doing. This video seems to me to sum up her life. Certainly a woman but definitely not the stereotypical girly girl. Hell I think she is smokin' & keeps gettin better. Plus John Doe is in the video & I get a kick out of the name on the back of the book at the end. If you do not know who he is, Well you are sitting in front of a computer. Try X,or Knitters even.
OK, so am I the only one surprised to learn that Joan Jett is HOT!!!! I've always known she was good looking, but a little on masculine side for me to call HOT!. This is a remake of a song that I first heard on Crash Test Dummies Ghosts that Haunt me. Joan Jett's Greatest Hits is one of the $5 Amazon Downloads for July. I (still) Love Rock and Roll! (and I have appreciation of a new kind for Joan Jett).
An amab wearing a skirt is still so controversial that they have avoided making Dick wear one in the video, even though it's first line of the song. Like, come on! As an enby who actually wears dresses and lives this life this is kinda disappointing.
And the video reduces "he might be a father but he sure ain't a dad" to complaints about parents - NO! It's about Dick being a parent who's also nonbinary! Wtf!
With the current political climate today, I was actually afraid of reading comments. I'm so pleased to see that so many people support Joan. She truly is a goddess.
The people who would gnash their teeth over this aren't anywhere near cool enough to have heard of the song.

It's a cover of a track on "Let it Be' by The Replacements from 1984. Paul Westerberg is the songwriter.
Yes, indeed another brilliant cover by JOAN JETT.
I love her voice and she's still a nice girl
i love the song and this cover so much. it makes me so happy i could cry
This is a great song. Joan Jett singing Paul Westerberg. Whoda thunk? Her band really swings and cuts into this. Excellent drumming. All groove.
she's singing the song as an adult looking back on a rough patch of her life (which turned out fine). westerberg was singing it from the perspective of the teen going thru it at the time, thus the pain.
Nope. Westerberg was writing about Tommy. Same with 16 Blue.
EVERYONE! Go nominate Joan Jett & The Blackhearts to be inducted into the Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame 2012!
I love this video... and Joan Jett, she is like the coolest person in the world!!!!
I will always love Joan...
I was at the Essex concert too. Fricking awesome. Joan is still awesome after all these years.

A great cover of a Canadian classic.
The Replacements are not Canadian.
I just heard their version on their new CD. It was a great cover, glad someone else knows of them.
Imádom ezt a számot nagyon jó.Csodálatos...........Köszi Joan.......

Today it would be maligned as “woke indoctrination”

other than it having no people of color whatsoever (which *is* a big deal), it is a beautiful video.

yes.

care to go into WHY?
This is a Replacements song.
i like it a lot more by the replacements.
it might be because the song is 24 years old. kinda late to jump on the hate wagon
almost as good as the great Replacements
who is here from by hook or by crook?
