I love that Dyan explains why she does what she does. It helps to know the reasons behind the techniques. When you understand them, the skies the limits!

Thank you, Dyan! You have certainly showed me more ways to use the brayer & gel plates. As you have demonstrated, I think I will practice using 3 colors in the same color-way. So many gel print images I’ve seen are muddy & dark, because they had contrasting colors. I think your way of adding color by printing directly onto the paper will be easier for me to control the process. I’m going to give it a try, anyway! I wish I could give you 10 stars for this video, it is a VERY HELPFUL video!

I never would have thought to do this. I made my own big gel plate and sometimes would think there’s got be something else I can do with it. Well now after watching this and seeing how fast the pages come to life I am going to make some small ones and definitely a round one! I can’t wait! Love watching Diane!

I love using them both ways. With lighter pastels and with more multiple bold color patches and sometimes even adding tissue paper on top and crinkling it and letting it dry then going back over the whole piece with pastels. That is the whole fun thing about it all...we get to play :)

You can make your own Gel Plates. Just use Clear Knox Gelatin. I know how the real ones are made. Many of us can't afford them. The other thing you can do with the plate is put that embossing sheet right onto the gel plate and then roll the color on. This way you can load the gel plate with several colors at one time and still get the same effect as you did

Dear Carol Frazer, could you explain how you make gel plates from gelatin? Because you're absolutely right about the price of them. I saw them here in Melbourne, Australia, at an art supply store, called Eckersley's, and I winced at the cost!

I enjoyed watching, but it just leads to more questions. I want to get into Art Journaling, but have no clue (no matter how many videos I watch) how to get a nice looking page with stenciling and doodling and embellishing. I would love to see you do a page from start to finish, so I'm going too check out your other videos to see if you have anything. This was a bit helpful, but I've seen people make their own DP using gel plates also. Thanks for this as a beginning.
