    Jackie Olshack worked almost 20 years as legal secretary/paralegal for multiple patent corporate law firms. In the late 1990s, she began to recognize it was becoming harder to break the ceiling on her $58,000 salary as more and more attorneys were typing their own documents, managing their own calendars and making their own travel arrangements, putting the future of her career in jeopardy. After some introspection, she decided to go back to college and pursue a science degree with plans to go to law school to become a patent attorney - but couldn’t get her LSAT higher to get into even a fourth-tier law school. She now proudly thanks all the law schools that turned her down, preventing the dreaded $150,000-$200,000 law school debt she would have incurred. She is now an analytical, top performing SAFe trained senior project management professional with 14+ years of experience managing and implementing IT programs and projects successfully.

    This was awesome!! This is exactly the position that I am currently pursuing. I will be graduating this October with my BSBA with a concentration on Project Management and I'm also currently in a Cyber Security program (currently studying for the Net+ and Security+) I'm also studying for the PMP. Yes, a lot on my plate but this interview confirms that there is a place in the industry for this position. I'm so glad to hear her story!! Thanks a lot!!

    EXCELLENT discussion, "Guys"! And you're VERY inspirational, Jackie .. absolutely love the way you transitioned from one career to another. And I'm willing to bet that you didn't abandon the previous but brought along some of the best "tools" that you'd picked up along the way. Like juggling resources, especially on integrated projects/programs ... and time ... sometimes meetings ABOUT meetings! And it's all worthwhile to see the goal reached and mission accomplished and reminisce with the team about the journey. Then on to the next ... GOTTA love that! And never stop learning!!!! Well done, Hats' Off! (c;

    Thank you so much, Jackie I have project management and Human Resources experience and looking to get into cybersecurity program management. I have some impostor syndrome and am not sure where to start. I have CC from ISC2. I would love any advise or a mentor.

      Just jump in! Listen to Amy Cuddy's TedTalk - fake it till you make it. Start where you are with your current employer. Ask for a cyber project - HR is very involved in the IAM space (identity access mgmt) go for it!
