This engine was fairly well ahead of its time. 3 liter or 183 cubic inches producing 220 HP in N/A and 330 with the twin turbos. It has a 2 piece ram air style intake manifold with 2 throttle bodies. Problem is, they shoehorned it into a very tight and expensive platform so it hardly saw its true potential. Steve Millen and his crew showed what could be done with this car and engine but Joe Blow doesn't have anywhere near the resources of a factory race team and the engine builders he had have mostly retired. There is a shop in Georgia that still builds and works on the newer Z's, but it's expensive.
If they had put this engine in a truck with more room to get at it, it would have been a lot more popular. But the intricacy of it would still have made it expensive. You can drop an LS motor in this car fairly easily and make a lot more than the 2-300 HP Jared mentioned, but the 2JZ turbo is the HOT motor this week, so that's what they're going with. Others have mentioned that an inline 6 is much longer than a V6 or V8 so this could get interesting.
Get a salvage lambo with no engine and put the 2jz in that instead... maybe one where your headlights from the 300zx fits, that way you have a pair of extra headlights ;)
I would for sure watch a series where Jared tears apart an engine and goes over different things about it. Side note this channel has gotten even better with Jared being on it!
One recommendation if possible, when a project is done like Earl Leaker, have an episode going through cost and time it took... Would be nice to know, thanks

V8 LS swap could provide 400-500 reliable horsepower with same or more in torque. Nowhere near as wide as the stock motor and DOES NOT require relocating radiator if correct accessory drive and electric fans are used. 2JZ is longer and will take as much or more modifying as a V8.

Why not just turbo the VG30 motor,yes it's difficult to work around it but the motor has more durability in terms of block rigidity compared to the rb26. These VG30's have some potential.
What sucks about this is that all the people that don't know better, will go around spilling the same misinformation and it becomes a huge snowball that's hard to stop.
Lol love this channel however the sc300 and the sc400 only came with a 2jzge and a 1uzfe, reactivity. The sc300’s 2jzge is not built nearly as well as the 2jzgte. It is probably just a boosted 2jzge and it wot e very risky to put any amount of real horsepower. Heck it doesn’t even have the oil jets.
Great video I wish you has done a 1uzfe from the SC400 that is what I am putting in my 89 supra after I am done with the twinTurbo 6.0 LS 71 Buick GS build. It is a great engine
On my vg30deTT I’m running 500 horsepower on stock internals. The engine can get up to 1000hp. Disappointed you are getting rid of the VG. The 2jz motor in the 300zx is over done

omg so much wrong information in this video it isnt even funny,. VG is a world record holder over the 2jz motor,. OMG stop telling ppl inline are better motors when clearly they are not. IE GTR VR motor dominates all.

Yup i6 is mounted in different way, usually you can move it back a little bit while v8 wont fit that way so it ends up taking more space in front.
A v8 will fit fine, there’s plenty of LS swapped Z32. Just actually saw a guy twin turboing an ls in a z32.
