    Another gorgeous video! I loved the part near the beginning with the whitney facts and the rotating mountain models, that was a super cool idea and looked really well executed. Then it was cool later in the video when you were in the valley with whitney behind you and everything put into perspective

    Congratulations to you and your crew for summiting Whitney. Even though the ascent must have been very strenuous, at least it was in the dark so you couldn't see the dropoffs. The descent looked scary as hell in the daylight.

    Way to go! I last went up Whitney at the end of the JMT in 2015. It was a full moon, and I didn't need my headlamp until after the Junction when the Pinnacles blocked the moon light. I had it easy with a snow free trail up to the Junction, though. It was much more difficult coming from the east side in 2014 as a day hike with snow all the way from Consultation Lake to the summit. Awesome, that you both did this unlike most PCTers this year! Totally impressed.

    4:20. Your ice ax should always be in your up-hill hand. I hope you break with the usual through-hiker pattern and climb a few of the other 4000-enders that you will be passing along the way.

    • @michaelb1761
      @michaelb1761 4 года назад +1

      Good advice on the ice axe. I nearly died once due to improper ice axe usage on a 45 degree slope of hard ice when I slipped. Got lucky and still here today.

    • @professorsogol5824
      @professorsogol5824 4 года назад +1

      @@michaelb1761 There are several other examples of sloppy ax handling in this segment (e.g. 6:11). They were several more weeks in the Sierra and survived so I guess they were either lucky or their technique improved. I've never used trekking poles, but I imagine having a smooth, efficient method for handing a trekking pole in one hand and an ax in the other would take some practice, particularly when descending.

      Aloha. Apoxia ? Fuzzy brain ? Tied up ice axes when potentially needed ? Conspicuous consumption for unused gear ? Topics for future videos.
      Phew, you all made it. That was a perfect place to glissade with your all's expensive ice axes digging to control or arrest your moves. Good you all beat the slim odds of cascading helter skelter/bums to hooters into infamy that day.
      Another video without a single safety line/rope used to cross those "sketchy" spots ?
      I can't wait to see just one b/vlogger thru hiker showing them carrying 75-100' of para cord just for this section famous for multiple "sketchy"(unsafe) crossings.
      Not criticizing, just making late comers conversation starter da kine. Hike on.
