    I built a modern outdoor sofa out of 2x4s and Ikea cushions. I love how this turned out. It matches the outdoor table I built in the last video.
    I just started uploading to RUclips so let me know what you think/ give me a thumbs up/ subscribe as more videos are coming.
    I used a table saw, orbital sander, drill/driver, miter saw and pocket hole jig and doweling jig. You could do this whole project with a hand saw and drill if you had to.

I also have another version of this build I did a few months ago that does have a PDF set of plans I'm the video description. Hope this helps!

    I used 12 2x4x10 pieces of cedar from menards. I got Hampton bay cushions from Home Depot. I used your cut list and went to town. No real issues other than it’s hard to find good wood, I thought I picked good pieces but one was or did curve on me. I found a good use for it in the build though. Your trick of standing up the piece while attaching the long boards worked well, and with my height it was easy to attach the other leg. I used 100% pocket hole where I could. Then used SPAX brand deck screws which I recommend anything they make. My cushions don’t quite fit snuggly on the length from leg to leg but with how stiff they are it seems to work. I’m also considering adding a support in the middle just because I over engineer everything I make. I also added some weathered boards inside the legs which added a rustic look. Thought about a corrugated metal panel in there but went with the rustic boards instead. Overall I love your design with the angled back. Most everyone else couch had no angle and only one support going across the back. This couch with the angle is great. In hindsight I would have like to have taken some off the width so the cushions fit better but otherwise I’m happy and appreciate the video.

      Awesome! Sounds like you are making some improvements. I just built an outdoor chair with a similarish design and for that I used cedar - it is much nicer and way less work. Thanks for sharing all the feedback! Hope others can use it on their builds.

    Hey Nathan, thanks for sharing. After checking out a lot of these outdoor couch builds yours is my favorite design. Im not familiar w sketchup and still trying to figure out your backrest. Can you provide more detail on how you attached that to the seat?

    • @NATHANBUILDS
      @NATHANBUILDS  5 лет назад

      Hey thanks for watching! So the back vertical supports are cut at an angle and attached to the seat with pocket holes. You can see what I mean at 4:26 in the video. The vehicle back supports next to the arm rests are also screwed into the arm rests and the middle vertical supports are screwed into the horizontal back support connecting the arm rests. Again you can see all this at 4:26. Hope this helps.

    Would u think putting a 45 on both front side hand rest would reduce the strength ?

    • @NATHANBUILDS
      @NATHANBUILDS  5 лет назад

      I think that would work fine. There are a lot of cross beams that add plenty of extra support and the support across the center of each leg unit that holds the seat.

    The book provides clear illustrations ruclips.net/user/postUgkxbnOKZBE4evMO5V2vroHeCjq6d_MV6wJO diagrams that cover many of the essential topics. The projects at the end of the book are valuable for enhancing your skills and creating your own furniture. A digital platform linked to the book that could offer the plans for other woodworking projects with the cut sheets would have been a nice addition, but overall, the book is excellent.

      It's softer so it will scratch, but works fine. If it's outdoor it will rot unless finished. Good luck!

    • @NATHANBUILDS
      @NATHANBUILDS  5 лет назад +2

      It's still looking pretty good. However I would recommend going with cedar 2x4s instead. They will age much better. Also after accounting for not having to stain and time finishing them, the cedar isn't much more expensive.

    • @NATHANBUILDS
      @NATHANBUILDS  3 года назад +1

      Hey! Yeah you could totally do that. You would just need to make minor adjustments as you go to make sure everything fits - even with the pans I would be doing field measurements as I go. Let me know how it goes!

    Hi sir I want to know ...How successful is pine wood for sofa, bed, box , chair and table?
    And which type of furniture will you recommend for pine tree.
    Sir plz suggest.
    Thanks

    • @NATHANBUILDS
      @NATHANBUILDS  4 года назад +1

      Hey! Pine is a great cheap wood to work with. It is best for indoor applications as outside you need to make sure it is sealed really well or it will rot. I have found cedar to be the best bang for your buck for outside since you don't really need to seal it, it will last a long time and is rather inexpensive.

    • @NATHANBUILDS
      @NATHANBUILDS  4 года назад +1

      If that didn't answer your question, you can use pine for anything - I actually have a bunch of videos on different projects. All the inside stuff turned out great. The outside stuff is not wearing as well as I would have liked though.

    • @NATHANBUILDS
      @NATHANBUILDS  4 года назад +1

      Hey - unfortunately I don't have the footage for that. However, to do it I cut a 15 degree angle in the vertical back pieces connecting to the seat, then screwed them into the seat and the arm rests. I'm actually about to build another version of this based off my cedar chair. Hopefully that will be done in a week or two.
