@@savedbythebelldeepdives Another classic episode coming up is the episode where Zack & Kelly break up (over that jerk Jeff!). That episode was also poignant, and showing us kids that first love didn't always work out.
If Jessie's real addiction was to overachieving (actually never thought of that, good point), then the change from an actual addictive stimulant like speed to caffeine is actually a good change. Keep the focus off the drug and on Jessie's behavior.
It's odd, because the original concept for the episode was on the drug (speed), yet the final product shows the drug as "merely" a symptom to her real problem (which, to be fair, is often the start for a lot of drug addiction). Either way it's sliced, the episode is memorable for all the right and wrong reasons.
Till this week 34 years ago today on November 3rd 1990 season 2 episode 9 "Jessie's Song" TV sitcom "Saved by the Bell" on NBC. That episode was the most shocking moments 😭 in TV history.
The very first episode of Saved By The Bell I watched. I was getting ready to watch another show (I think it was called Saturday Morning Videos), but this episode replaced it. I was shocked and stunned after the episode. 😮The next episode was either the dance contest or Lisa selling her clothes and wardrobe to make money to payback her dad. Like everyone I started to like the show and watched it constantly. 😊😊😊
There's just like this magic to it. My wife doesn't get why I'm still so drawn to the show, but here we all are: watching and rewatching and analyzing this glorious absurdity together.
"Jessie's Song" walked so the "Tiffany is on steroids" episode of California Dreams could run. 😊 Ironically, I think that was the one episode where there was no music. Fascinating!
I remember noticing back when I was a kid that the scene in locker room was cut compared to the first time I watched it. I think the full scene is featured in the Valentine's Day compilation episode. I think. It's definitely featured in one of the compilation episodes if not that one.
Slater's comment about Jessie being born a man and him not reacting much to the kiss isn't helping his doghouse-owning cause. But at least he was a good guy in warning her about the pills
Mr Duey is probably the greatest teacher on this show.. not kidding, i had a drama/video productions high school just like him 20 years ago. Sadly i learned he died this year. :( ..He must created an impact on my life since he was the only teacher i remember. 😂
God I kinda I feel the only thing good about Zack (despite it being a bit too late) is when he comforts Jessie during her infamous meltdown I don’t know maybe it’s just me
@@savedbythebelldeepdives I think they were going for more of the late-80s trio girl group Dance/Club music vibes like Expose, Sweet Sensation, and Seduction. Check this video out and tell me if it wouldn't fit right in with the show for Hot Sundae!: ruclips.net/video/zr7EJa6qR_A/видео.html
Leave it to a DJ to find just the right song to make a point. Nice work! And seeing the two World Trade Center towers in that video was very, very strange to see.
4:26 There is a piece missing in your version of the video. When I saw this on TV she says "You know you have a hit album right now?" And I'm pretty sure its complete on the DVD set.
That was from a deleted scene that did air originally, but all the versions since then seem to be based on the syndicated versions, which cut that slight bit of dialogue. At least I haven't seen it in any of the DVD versions readily available to me. (I primarily use the boxed "Complete Collection" set.)
I watched these episodes all the time in syndication as a kid and I've never heard the line about her having a hit album until today. I've only seen the abrupt cut
@@Shorty_Lickens That's pretty odd then. I never saw an episode on NBC but all of my viewings were on TBS and WGN back in the day. Syndication channels cut tiny pieces of episodes all the time so they can squeeze in more commercials. Maybe you just got lucky in your syndication viewings? I'm positive I never knew about the hit album line
I had a real problem with caffeine a few years back. You would often find me in dark seedy alleyways, looking to score my next hit. Caffeine withdrawal is really nasty stuff. You wouldn’t believe the things I have done for a cup of coffee.
NBC could have owned the PSA to end all PSAs if they used the alternate script wherein they do choose Sinead O'Connor and the final scene is Jesse, through quiet sobs, takes a handful of pills and begins to sing Nothin Compares 2 U as the camera pans down to the bottom of her bed and her lifeless hand suddenly drops back in frame releasing the now empty bottle which rolls ominously out of frame. Snappy sax stinger to the end credits of course.
You're exactly right that Elizabeth Berkeley and Mark killed that scene in the bedroom that people make fun of. In high school I dated a girl who was much like Jesse. She was addicted to overachieving and based her whole idea of personal success and whether or not she made valedictorian. She ended up finishing 4th in the class and was devastated. She could not accept it being 4th for the class was extremely successful.
It's amazing how different our brains can be wired. I know some people who simply didn't care for grades, some who couldn't care for grades, some who cared enough for grades, and some like your acquaintance who made grades their identity. We're all just doing life how we think we needs to be done and some validation can go a long way no matter what type of brain we are all working with.
I think that's a logical leap. High school Annie would have had major Jessie vibes, and Adderall would have been a more realistic drug to get hooked on for focussing.
As someone who had a boy band in 2000 and then managed bands, I always wondered why they couldnt just perform with kelly and lisa. Screech wasnt needed. They could have still gotten signed with just lisa and kelly performing
