Glue trick....I found this to work really well. When you glue boards, sometimes they pieces slide out of place. Use a pinch of salt when you glue boards and the salt will hold the pieces together without slippage
I dont understand why you girls dont have a zillion subscribers. Your work is so amazing and you explain everything so well and you're cute together and funny and gorgeous...the whole package. I get so excited every time I get a notification. I love your work so much!
@@MarkPR58, I substantially modified this design to make my bed super sturdy. One thing I did was use 2-6 without trimming those. This gives a full 6' strength. Then I used two 2-4s (along the foot to the headboard) to give extra support to the mattress. In the end, both these 2-4s have base support (just used the same 2-4s and give support on the floor) at their center. The rest of the model is the same. It took me just 10 hours on Sunday to get it ready. I can show you my design if we can get in touch somehow.
Wow just wow it's probably a bit more money for lumber where I live , but even if I paid $200 for lumber it's totally worth it for a queen size bed. I love how you ladies explain everything on what you are doing. I do appreciate it. Thank you!!
Hi girls ! Merry Christmas an happy new year . I’m disabled an over sixty now soon to be sixty four in fact but love to watch you girls build beautiful things an have wanted to learn to build beautiful furniture an other items myself . I just in fact ordered myself a beginners woodworking book . But the most awesome thing is my husband just gave me a Kreg jig system as one of my Christmas gifts from him this morning . It is so funny because my whole family has been teasing me for the last year about me wanting one . It’s so funny because no one has ever known me in my entire life to ever ask for any tools till now . But I fully plan to learn to build things an use this as much as possible ! Just thought you gals might get a smile out of this story . But I’m going to learn to build things an use it an other tools . Just wanted you to know you’ve inspired me . Even at my age ! What a deal .
Serious CLAMP-Envy going on here! Really love this bed. Passing the plans on to MY daughter (35) who also has been needing a new bed. I think hers will be finished in matte black. Well done ladies!
Thank you for the Video and set of plans. At the 5 minute mark, side rail shows 3 pocket holes on each end. At 5:50 you Glue and Screw the cleats covering the bottom pocket hole. Was this by design? How do you get a pocket screw into the bottom hole if you already glued the cleat in place?
Love this, ladies! My 13 yo daughter has been wanting a more “grownup” bed and room. This is perfect! Definitely adding it to the spring project list (for my huuby 😂) tsmfs!!
me and my mom are building this next week!! been looking for a great bed for my room, my bed recently broke and need a way stronger bed thatll last long!! thank you!!
I love the design. Currently, working on building a slightly modified version with stacked 2x6's in place of the plywood. #HEAVY. One thing I did notice so far...Your framing lumber is way nicer than mine. I had a heck of a time with the posts during glue up. The Doug Fir at the big box stores in CA is nowhere near as clean and nice as the boards in this video. Thanks again for the plans and all your great videos. Keep it up!
I just made this, really nice. I would share the pics if I could. Instead of screwing everything together though, I put brackets on it. So I can just pop the sides off of the headboard and footboard and move it. Bc you can only run a screw into it so many times.
I love watching your videos. I have yet to build anything because I need the tools. Soon enough I’ll have them and can start building. Thank you for what you all do. Love you two ladies. You rock.
I love the look of the finished product. So solid! I don't have a wood shop though. Maybe I'll see if anyone can help me build it. I would like to make one suggestion for you guys though: Put some acoustic treatment in your shop, where you are recording. You are audible, but the echo is extreme and somewhat distracting. You could put up some cheap studio foam around on the walls and ceiling, or DIY something a little nicer ;) Either way, I think even a little bit would go a long way to improve your production quality. Your content is worth the effort!
What a great build thank you for the video and the build plans. My girlfriend wanted me to build her a headboard but i showed her this and she is so excited that im gonna build it for her. She loves the stain and finish. Can you tell me what color stain you used and tips on how you created that beautiful look. Id appreciate it. This is gonna be a great xmas present for her...m
I love how easy this is to follow because it's broken up into parts. I think the only different thing I would do is try to figure out how to join them in a way where I can dismantle them with a screw driver. I rent and move a lot :P
Hello! I am getting ready to go and buy supplies next weekend to build this bed. I am so excited as this is my first try at building a piece of furniture, but I have a few questions. Instead of joining the 3 boards together to make it thicker, Can I use 6"x6"x8" boards to use as the legs? Also if I wanted to add a flat piece of I guess plywood? for over the slats for a memory foam mattress to lay on what size and thickness would be correct? I hope you see these questions :) Thank you, Amanda
Amanda Petrisin hi! You can buy 6x6 is expensive and it can’t be cut with a 12” miter saw very easily. You can lay a sheet of plywood. It would just need to be the width and length of the inside of the frame!
I love the beds you guys make but I do have one question. Why do you use pocket holes when connecting the headboard and the footboard? Why not the bed rail brackets? Just curious I love what you guys make you two actually got me into woodworking
You can add them there too! I put as many as I knew I would need, but you can add as many as you want... The more the better :-) Thank you for your sweet comment! Happy to hear we pulled you over!
Pocket holes for the simplicity of it. However, as I saw on another video, unless you put lots of pocket screws on each corner on the long run they may start to fail holding the frame together. Definitely using or adding bed rail brackets is a better option, specially with a big mattress queen size.
Alright so I did this .. tips for next person to modify the blue print I did spend 300~$ or so on lumber plus screws glue paint I would do different the wood holding the mattress cut it at 62-63 inches Also cut whit the left over wood Add support to center 4 woods holding the mattress other than that the frame is solid solid . Love it
Cool vid and the finished bed came out looking nice. My concern is the pocket hole screws holding the rails to the legs. Seems like ever since kreg made a diy jig, it's pocket holes for everything and they do have their limits. Traditionally for hiding hardware on cabinet faces or other more decorative pieces, not as load bearing. I have no doubt they'd hold up short term but that looks like just a butt joint at the legs and rails. The screws are holding the full weight of the mattress and sleeper, over time they're likely to bend, sag, pull out. If they come loose and the bed begins racking they'll be under even more stress. At the very least surface mount bed rail hooks would be a better option imo.
I wish there was a shopping list first in the video or on the plans. Like exactly how many boards and what size do I need to buy that way I buy the right amount and am not trying to count along with the plans.
I bought all the wood and cut and sanded everything but now I’m having a hard time understanding how far apart to place all the pocket holes maybe I’m over thinking it but would really like some help! Thank you I love your videos plan on making the matching night stand next !! My daughter will love this! We are planning on surprising her with this bed!!
I'm totally falling in love with this channe can you ladies design bed frame or maybe just a queen-size headboard that can transform into a king later on. And if it's a bookcase headboard that would be amazing cuz I'm sure that would be a challenge
Hi! i have a question, why the legs are 4,5 inches wide if you are stacking 3 2x5's it should be 6 inches wide, im loosing my mind around this please help. Much love for the video and the channel !
Future reference you want the slabs holding the bed less than 4inches apart or it can deteriorate the matress faster. Unless you’re using a box spring.
Do you think you could do a video on how to do/use the pocket holes? Like how to do it and what tool to use for pocket holes? This would be a huge help to me since i just discovered your channel and going to do A LOT of these videos!
No kidding, don't mention "what a great stain you choose" and then not list it! You should have a link to purchase the stain as well as a list of lumber and other parts you used (and links to purchase them) as well.
Going to have to build one of these.. Can get most the supplies pretty cheap now. That birch plywood will be the problem lol.. Even at my work where I get a discount since we make it it'll still be 65 for a sheet lol
LOVE this! I need this. I do have a tufted headboard that I removed the standard two legs that come with. Do you have any suggestions on how I can attach? Like can I put it in front of the plywood slab? If so, how? Thanks for any info 💕
Oh that's fun... I think I would try the plywood and maybe do screws through the plywood and into the back of the headboard wood... Best guess without seeing it!
I think this looks really good and its a great idea... but you can't tell me that those slats aren't going to sag after time with no center support and if someone heavy is putting pressure on those side supports I can't see those screws holding up.
I'm new to the channel and love your sense of humor :). The bed is gorgeous, thanks for posting! I'm confused though, at the beginning the supply list listed wood, two saws and a drill (if I remember correctly). But then the video also uses wood glue, nailing gun, clamps and the pocket holes that appear from nowhere..... and doesn't show the saws being used. I'm really a beginner at this and would love to see the entire process and full supply list. I'm trying to figure out what a beginning workshop needs and hopefully convince myself that I could do something like this.
This bed looks awesome! I’m a senior in high school doing this as a woods project, and I’m stealing your plans 😂 one thing I’m changing, and you may want to consider is more use of joints and bed hardware. Instead of attaching with only glue and screws, I will be adding dado joints where possible, and instead of using pocket holes to attach everything I will be using bed brackets. I love the plan just giving ideas as there’s always room for improvement! Also, how long did this take roughly?
What would you ladies do if you wanted another leg in the middle of the bed between the footboard and headboard? For more stability for a larger person. Just inquiring. Thanks again. Great design and work.
You are correct anything bigger than a twin MAYBE a full size bed you can get away with it but queen and up needs a mid rail to keep the boards from sagging OR you can use plywood cut down to fit over them in order to distribute the weight correctly. regardless i would definitely include a mid rail with their design you would need a longer head board center piece and then you can screw it all into the headboard and footer to keep it hidden.
Awwww thank you! It's a stout bed! Really if weight is of concern, I would add lots of mattress slats and maybe even a support board or 2 going from the slats to the floor in the middle of the mattress. Hope this helps!
Hello I absolutely love this bed but I want to adjust it. I’m not sure how too.I will really appreciate it if you guys answered my questions below 1. I love the way the bed sits inside the bed-frame and not on top of it. But if I don’t rip any of the 2x6 for the side rails or the footboard will it still fit flushed. I really like the bulky look and I want more frame on the outside of the bed. Looks really nice... 2. Instead of using the slots to hold the mattress can I just use a big piece of wood and if so, what measurements would it be? 3. I want taller legs more of a canopy design, what size will the top four frames will be and if I made them the same size of the legs (3) 2x6 will it be to heavy Thank you so much for the video you guys are absolutely great at what you do.🥰
Wow, love this bed fit for a Queen!!Drama, have fun with your daughter lol! Been there done that and I'm continuing it lol ! I'm blessed with 2 grandaughters 😂😂!
Need more clamps!! That longer set needed at least one more clamp near either end. The gaps were visible in one of the shots. Not criticizing, just saying you want more pressure along that length to ensure good lamination.
@@shanty2chic Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace are actually great places to find some extras. Of course you could get Jorgensen to sponsor an episode and set you up with a nice starter set too! ;-)
This is great! Too bad it would take me 5 years to find enough straight lumber at my local hardware store to make it. Do you girls have any tricks for dealing with warped lumber???
AMEN. It is a task we totally get it! We did have a friend suggest purchasing from a lumber yard because the moisture content is much lower than big box, but we haven't done that ourselves yet! Hope that helps!
Currently making this frame! However, I have looked the plans, comments and reviews over many times and I do not see anywhere the measurements for the pockets holes. HELP! what is the placement for the pocket holes??
Awesome bed. How do ya'll keep your wood from moving when using pocket hole screws? I know we don't see everything you do in the video but when drilling I noticed nothing budged with your pocket holes. I must be doing something wrong. My screws never go all the way flush and they pull the wood. How can I fix it?
Also, creating a DIY desktop for a cubicle and need to put two 1" thick wood. What size of a pocket screw should I use to screw together the two pieces of wood?
Soooo your plan. I made every cut and get to putting the foot board and it says for it to be ripped to 4 1/2 but the info at the beginning says 4 so now I need to recur a board. Maybe fix it for other people! Besides that it’s wonderful
if I wanted to make this bed higher, the legs specifically. 16 - 18" feet. Is there anything super important I need to be sure to do? like extra support some where?
Can you do a tutorial on how to make copycat Ikea Soderhamm sofa (without the arms)...it seems like it would be kind easy to do. There aren't many diy sofa tutorials out.
Am I the only one that thinks pocket hole screws aren’t enough joinery for the side rails with regards to weight? And the slats are a bit thin without any additional support?
Great project ladies!!! Love seeing woman dominate the construction world! But more glue when making posts. There should be glue coming out of the seems. It’s not the nail and screw that keep your project together, it’s the glue. If you keep a damp paper towel when gluing, you can wipe that glue that’s beads at the seem away while it’s wet to save time on scraping. Where you don’t see the beads of glue suggest putting a clamp there. Glue makes it stronger. Just a tid bit of info for you. Excellent job!!!!
I’ve been trying to find a design to make a bed for my husband and I. I stumbled across this video and love the look! I have a few questions: 1) Does the headboard flex at all in the middle? My husband and I sit up in bed to read/watch tv so would need something that wouldn’t bow over time. 2) How would you modify the bed to accommodate a box spring and not just a mattress?
That would tend to flex in the middle I'd have thought! For many people that's no problem but if you want to sit up and lean against it then you might want to try something more like the headboard in the video I'm about to link you to! As for the box spring, you could always make the legs a little shorter and that would compensate for the height. Bare in mind also, you could basically if you want to build the bed in this video, but make the headboard differently, and amalgamate the designs. Good luck! ruclips.net/video/re3nsTstXcw/видео.html
is it 100 usd lol i need a new bedframe stat lol my mother bought me one and assebled it 6 days ago im only 197lbs and he supports underneath are snapping and it is two sections connected in the middle so is bowing and one of the screw in slats was to short

Glue trick....I found this to work really well. When you glue boards, sometimes they pieces slide out of place. Use a pinch of salt when you glue boards and the salt will hold the pieces together without slippage
I saw a carpenter do this once and I was so confused why they kept seasoning their joints.

How much weight can this bed hold? Oh and thanks for the free plans ladies. I've been binge watching your videos lately. So fun!
Awwww thank you! It's a stout bed! Really if weight is of concern, I would add lots of mattress slats and maybe even a support board or 2 going from the slats to the floor in the middle of the mattress. Hope this helps!
Don't forget that a bed must be bulletproff or heavy duty , because there are great battles ...
and i reinforced the area legs with extra support ..
i love you ladies. now you got me wanting to build a bed...
3. I want taller legs more of a canopy design, what size will the top four frames will be and if I made them the same size of the legs (3) 2x6 will it be to heavy Thank you so much for the video you guys are absolutely great at what you do.🥰
I need this for a king bed 😍
Great Job as usual...I need more clamps, i was told that you never have enough clamps.
Same! You can't have too many ;-)
You two did an awesome job!
My next project for sure! What stain did you use? I love it!!
Oh shoot! Forgot to add that! I'll add it into the post, but this is Briarsmoke lightened up by mixing natural stain with it :-)
I love this bed, great creation!
Thank you Angela!!
Can you guys do a 4 poster/canopy bed??
Wow, love this bed fit for a Queen!!Drama, have fun with your daughter lol! Been there done that and I'm continuing it lol ! I'm blessed with 2 grandaughters 😂😂!
Awww so fun and YES drama often ;-)
@@shanty2chic ,😂😂😂
Need more clamps!! That longer set needed at least one more clamp near either end. The gaps were visible in one of the shots. Not criticizing, just saying you want more pressure along that length to ensure good lamination.
Good advice... They are just so darn expensive! So we settled for 2 each when we bought them years ago!
@@shanty2chic Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace are actually great places to find some extras. Of course you could get Jorgensen to sponsor an episode and set you up with a nice starter set too! ;-)
Scott VanderHaeghen good advice 😏 I’ll work on that!
@@shanty2chic any clamp is better than no clamp...
A wall of cordless tools behind them but couldn't afford clamps 🤷🏼
A complete queen size bed 😃
This is great! Too bad it would take me 5 years to find enough straight lumber at my local hardware store to make it. Do you girls have any tricks for dealing with warped lumber???
AMEN. It is a task we totally get it! We did have a friend suggest purchasing from a lumber yard because the moisture content is much lower than big box, but we haven't done that ourselves yet! Hope that helps!
@@shanty2chic thanks girls! I'm sure theres a lumber yard near me, I'll do some research! Love you guys!
happy shanty sixteen!!!!
Awww I'll tell her! Made us laugh!
Hi girls, great job. Can you please give me name of stain for this beautiful bed
Thanks
Thankyou for the ideas and plans- love you guys- subscribed for sure
Did you guys use bunk board or just put the mattress on the slats.
Currently making this frame! However, I have looked the plans, comments and reviews over many times and I do not see anywhere the measurements for the pockets holes. HELP! what is the placement for the pocket holes??
For the legs, I’m wondering why you didn’t just use 6x6’s? Was there a reason why?
Awesome bed. How do ya'll keep your wood from moving when using pocket hole screws? I know we don't see everything you do in the video but when drilling I noticed nothing budged with your pocket holes. I must be doing something wrong. My screws never go all the way flush and they pull the wood. How can I fix it?
Love to purchase a king size one.
Great video but what is the color of the stain?
Gorgeous! ❤️ A video of your guys’ favorite stains would be awesome! 🤗 Thanks for teaching me so much 💖
Do you have to rip the planks or can you just leave them?
The bed turned out so gorgeous!! You girls do some amazing work! So inspiring💖💖💖
You lady's are so awesome,I love this project to and I got the Plans,Take care I will see you again much love Family :)
Thank you TJ! :-)
You girls are freaking awesome, on my way to make my bed.
Awesome channel and love that you provided the plans!
if I wanted to make this bed higher, the legs specifically. 16 - 18" feet. Is there anything super important I need to be sure to do? like extra support some where?
Can you do a tutorial on how to make copycat Ikea Soderhamm sofa (without the arms)...it seems like it would be kind easy to do. There aren't many diy sofa tutorials out.
We will look into it! Thanks for the idea!
Also an ikea student desk
So why do we need the table saw and miter saw? I believe Home Depot will make those cuts for one.
Love it, ladies. You rocked this build!!! 🥰
Thank you so much! :-)
I have a few questions:
1) Does the headboard flex at all in the middle?
Good luck! ruclips.net/video/re3nsTstXcw/видео.html
you're the best !! thanks for sharing all the materials and for the detailed explanation!!
is it 100 usd lol i need a new bedframe stat lol my mother bought me one and assebled it 6 days ago im only 197lbs and he supports underneath are snapping and it is two sections connected in the middle so is bowing and one of the screw in slats was to short
What is the type and name of the wood they have used as side beams and for legs?
