After endlessly looking for a nice solid bed frame to buy, I came to the conclusion that most reasonably priced bed frames online are made cheap. I decided to look up a diy & came across this video. I followed all of his measurements & instructions. I couldn’t be more happy with the outcome. Completed it within a few hours. (My first diy project.) It’s very stable & looks amazing! Thank you for this video!
@Mya Swisher Hey Mya, you are an absolute hero for taking the time to come back and leave your awesome comment and feedback here. I really appreciate that a whole bunch! I would agree with you on the ‘reasonably priced’ stuff. I’ll pin this comment so it is the very first one that every single person will see when they go to the comments section on this video. I greatly appreciate your support, your time, and most especially your feedback for everyone else. You are *awesome*! Sleep well. I hope to get another glorious comment like this from you down the road. Talk to you then.
@Myles King Hey Myles, thanks for stopping by and voicing your concern here. A quantity of 10 2x6 boards may not be enough for this queen size build, depending on how you are going to do it. I don’t know if you’ve seen the other videos on my channel, but I’ve since modified this bed frame twice to include a storage base and a headboard with more storage too. As far as the length goes, I think my thumbnail picture may be a little bit deceptive. An 8 foot long 2x6 is 96” in length. Here in the USA, our queen size mattress measure 60” x 80”…so the longest the side board needs to be is 80”, unless you are adding the headboard, in which case would be 85.5”. I don’t see where the shortage is my friend. Does my explanation help at all? I’m on Instagram realc_love1. Feel free to reach me there any time and I’ll be glad to further assist as needed. I’ll talk to you again soon.
My wife was very skeptical after I told her I was going to build us a bed. I have almost 0 experience with building things. I watched the video a few times and a couple hours later... boom we have a bed. This bed is rock solid and his measurements are dead on. We bought everything from lowes and spent right at $80 (except the lights). Thank you again for a great video and measurements
Man I'm new to all this and as a millennial I just got my first set of tools and want to build it for a full size. I'm very skeptical about a floating bed specially since I have company over at times and worried if we both sit or lay down on one side the whole bed would tip haha
Tony Diaz Hey Tony, I’m just now seeing this comment, sorry for the delay. If you follow the instructions I emailed to you, you will be in great shape. This bed shouldn’t tip to either side. I hope this helps!
Jessica Atanacio Hey Jessica, I would be glad to! I’m at the day job right now, but I will as soon as I get home. You can leave me your email address here or reach me on Instagram, I’m C_Love1984. Talk to you soon!
Guys this works!!! Perfect measurements!! Read the directions thoroughly and you'll have a masterpiece. 5 out of 5 stars. People are asking me to make them one now!!
Built this bed frame today. Measurements were dead on with one exception. The center braces for the base should’ve been 18, 34, 50 once the ends were connected. Since we have a memory foam mattress without a box spring, I opted to use 2x8’s for my base, 2x6s for the mattress base with plywood for the 60x80 top to get the right height that fits me and my wife. This floating platform bed is rock solid! I’m a 6’2, 375lb football player and with the 2x8 base and 2x6 top, it does not tip at all when I sit on the very edge of the bed or the foot of the bed. Thanks for the excellent video!!!
I was also thinking 2x8 for base so i can get a little more height since im just using a memory foam mat without boxspring. My question is..by going with the 2 x 8 for base will you be able to see the base at all under the mattress or does it still give the illusion that the mattress is floating?
Ronald Romero Thanks for your comment Ronald. I would imagine a 2x8 base would give even more of the floating illusion, be every bit as sturdy and still have the base hidden. I’m sure you could do this and get the results you are expecting.
Just built this. Took about 3 hours, easiest design on RUclips for solo construction. Having a box spring makes the top of my bed waaay too high off the ground, so I had to add a cardboard layer stapled all around the top of the frame to distribute the weight evenly across the bottom of my mattress. Masonite sheets would be the next step up for support, but plywood will be overkill. Absolutely love the bed. The amazon link in the video brings you to a 2 pack of LED tape, i bought one 16 foot strip (same brand) at half cost because that's all that's needed for this project.
Cody Rosser Awesome Cody. I need more people like you to leave thorough feedback like this because it really helps others. I really appreciate your time, effort, and support my friend. Thank you so much for everything!
@T-Rent Times have changed my friend. This video was made pre-covid...before the massive spike in lumber prices. I share in your frustration at the current cost though. I hope it gets better soon. Let me know if I can help at all.
Thanks for all the information for this build. My father and I completed this project in one day. We used 2 x 10's throughout the project. Thank you for your inspiration. Very happy
@Jason Day Thanks a whole lot for the feedback Jason, I can’t tell you how much I appreciate it. Comments like this *really* keep me inspired and motivated. I’m glad your build went quickly and apparently pretty well too! I hope you enjoy it my friend.
Built!! Took a day to get everything done. We have a memory foam mattress so we had to get creative with the support. But the frame and foundation are spot on! Wife loves it
@justinadams7901 Hey Justin, this is super cool my friend. I'm glad everything worked out and everyone is happy. I really appreciate you taking the time to come back and leave your feedback here. Of course, hindsight is 20/20 but others have used either plywood with holes drilled in it or cedar fence pickets slightly spaced apart to allow the mattress to breath for support in the absence of a box spring. You are all done now though. Enjoy your new bed frame 🤝
I built this yesterday. Considering I’ve never rly built anything I’m actually shocked by how good it turned out to be. It cost me roughly £150. Guys honestly you can probably save £60 but like I said I almost had no idea and ended up having to buy more timber. Other than that. Bed is really strong and neat. Thankyou for your guide!
@Jack Bodman Hey Jack, I’m glad your build went well. Thanks for stopping back by and leaving your awesome observations, compliments, and thoughts. You are the real hero here, my friend. I appreciate your time. Stay tuned, I’ve got more great stuff on the way!
I kept looking for a bed design and this was perfect. It was cheap to build, only took about three hours and is very sturdy. Thank you so much for the great bed design!
@Reese’s Beanutbutter You bet my friend! I’m glad this worked out well for you. I appreciate you taking the time to comment here and support this channel. Come back and talk to me again down the road.
Was so hyped when I finished this today. Took a few hrs, and now I'm just waiting on the lights to come in. I looked at a lot of different styles before choosing this one. Awesome design man.
@nemounstopable33 So glad to hear all of this! I appreciate your compliment, support, and feedback, you are the real hero my friend. I’m cooking up the king size now…stay tuned.
Thank you, C_Love. I didn't scroll down far enough in your instructions to see that you recommended the base at 49 wide. I went off your Queen bed and realized that the foundation was 60% width of the 60 wide top. So when I built the king, I built the width of the foundation to 60% of 76 wide which comes to 45 5/8 as opposed to the 49 I read about after the fact. So far, it's rock solid so thank you again this is one of the best instructional videos around.
MD EB aThanks so much for your time and wonderful feedback MD, I can’t tell you how much I appreciate it. I’m glad your build came out well and thank you so much for your kind words. Stay tuned, I’ve got a headboard modification in the making!
Lisa George Thank you Miss Lisa, I genuinely appreciate it a great deal. Stay tuned, I’m working on some more new neato things to show you, and everyone!
Made this yesterday. Absolutely amazing! Literally my first time using a drill besides hanging something came out perfect had an awesome night sleep and all!
@Taradaqtyl Hey Tara, you are so creative with your mega awesome YT screen name. Taradaqtyl. That’s so, so wonderful! So glad your build came out great and also glad to hear the first night’s sleep was just as good. Hopefully, you will sleep soundly on your new bed frame forever. I greatly appreciate you taking the time to come back and leave your comments, compliments, and feedback. You are the real hero here. 🙏 Thank you, thank you. Talk to you again soon!
So, just built this bed and it is amazing tho I made a few alterations to the design. I used 2x12's for the bed frame and 2x4's for the crosses and made it just a tad wider and longer so the box spring would set inside leaving the base frame alone and it worked perfectly! Just waiting on the lights to complete the aesthetic.
Aaron Neason Wow, this is GREAT feedback Aaron, thanks for taking the time to let me know, I really appreciate it a lot. I’m glad you achieved the look and function you were after and hopefully your build went safely. I appreciate your support my friend. Thank you 🙏
@Dalton TOFT Hey, good morning Dalton. Thanks for stopping by. I’m on Instagram realc_love1. Contact me there and I’ll send you all the pictures you need my friend. Talk to you again soon.
@kisscake Thank you for this most awesome compliment KC. I can't thank you enough for making me feel like this. I hope you have a safe build if you choose to try it. Reach out with any questions you may have. Take care my friend 🤝
SHOUTOUT to Curtis. I saw this video Tuesday/Wednesday night, bought the supplies Thursday & finished it Friday. With the help from Curtis as well. Keep it up, and I’ll definitely be on the lookout for more projects from you!
David Keeton Thanks for the continued support David, I really appreciate it. I was also more than happy to help you. I’ve got more great stuff on the way!
Jaylynne Ventura Haha 🤣...I suppose I should have been more specific. I was trying to see what size bed they wanted. I provided the measurements for the cuts for 3 of the beds in my description.
You have no idea how much I love this bed design. It's beautiful! I would like you to make the measurements for a single bed, I would greatly appreciate it. You do an amazing job.
@bill Hey Mr. Bill, thanks for your enthusiastic compliments! I haven't designed a floating bed frame for a single bed, what country are you in? And what are the dimensions? Feel free to reach me on Instagram realc_love1 at any time if you have that platform and I'll be glad to help you or you can just simply reply here, whatever is good. I'll talk to you again soon my friend. Thanks for your time and support.
Boujee ASMR Thank you so much for looking! Subscribe to be notified about new neato content I’ll be posting in the future! Let me know if I can help at all.
Just built this for my guest bedroom and went step by step according to your instructions. I spent around $105 at a Virginia Home Depot and purchased x1 2x6x8, 2x6x10, 2x6x12, 2x6x14, and x4 2x6x10(along with a box of screws). Super happy with the result thanks for the instructions, going to be doing a king size tomorrow.
@William Powell Thanks a whole lot for taking the time to come back and let me and everyone know, I really appreciate it my friend. I’m glad your build went well and came out as expected. Have fun with the king size and your other future builds. Be careful and take care!
Just came across this just now I know this video is 2 years old. Lol. But I see you said you were making a king size. Could you give the measurements for all the plywood I will need for a king?
Looked for a queen frame everywhere but couldn’t find something simple, strong, and low cost until I found this. My first diy project ever and I absolutely committed. I built it using 2x8x8 and had 0 issues. I wanted a little more height since I’m not using a box spring. I also plan on staining the base and laying a queen sheet over the top like you did. Just waiting for the leds and I have the perfect bed frame imo. Awesome video and tutorial. Thank you 🤝
@unescapablepain8796 Hey Pain, I can't tell you how many times I've heard variations of the first sentence in your comment here. *I* wanted a simple, strong, low cost version of what I came up with when I posted this video. You've already seen how primitive the editing is on this video but it's such a fantastic design that people around the world have commented on how much they love it! I just love that everyone that decides to build it doesn't ever have to worry about the bed post again. I'm telling you, this is a fantastic life power upgrade. Again, I can't tell you how many times I've heard variations of your second and third sentences here too! You build a small box and then you build a box the size of your mattress. Done deal, easy day...seems like anyone can do it. That's what I was shooting for. I couldn't find anything that was super easy...like...regular person could just up and build them a new floating bed frame if they wanted one. Lots of people have recreated this bed frame in many different variations. I'm glad your build went well, this is fantastic news! In the absence of a box spring, you are gonna need either cedar fence pickets or plywood to support the mattress. Otherwise, it's gonna sag in between the joists in the frame. I hope this is something you've thought about 🤦♂️ . If you want to spend the effort staining the base, you can, but you are likely not going to see it unless you have a vantage point from far away....I'd recommend saving that time and effort. The fitted sheet over the top is *definitely* the way to go. I'd do this a million times again. Perfect bed frame in your opinion...and mine...and lots and lots of other people's too! You are very welcome. I'm glad you are at this level of satisfaction with your new bed frame and I appreciate you taking the time to stop by, talk to me, and support this channel. That's super cool of you. Make sure to check out the 2 other queen size floating bed frame videos posted on this channel already before you get too married to what you've got right now. I modified this one to include storage in the base and I added a headboard in a third video. Let me know if you have any questions. I look forward to talking with you again down the road. Take care P.
I built a queen size frame watching this great detailed video. Love it! Our family and guests are always very impressed when they hear that I built it in 5hrs lol. My question is, is there any way to convert this into a king size frame without having to build a new one from scratch?
@B2theKM Hey B, thanks a lot for your time and feedback, I can’t tell you how invaluable it is. I’m really glad this video was able to help and you are a real hero for sharing it with your friends and family, just make sure and send them to my channel or video please. There actually is a way to convert this in to a king size, believe it or not. I used my board stretcher and the lumber from the queen size to make the king. I am the only person I know that has a board stretcher as I inherited mine from a legendary carpenter. Without that tool, yes, you will need to build a new one. Not to fear though, I’ve got a video for that one too, annnnd, it’s a whole lot better production than this one. The price of lumber has come down quite a bit too so it shouldn’t break the bank. Thanks for your question, I hope this helps, and I’ll talk to you soon.
Yeah great weekend project. Spent nearly $200 in lumber because of a rookie mistake. Didn’t cut the large pieces first so I ended up needing two additional 2x6’s. Other than that I love it so far
@Bhris Irvine I know your pain Bhris, I’ve spent some extra money on this bed myself by the time I got done modifying it all the way. Measure twice, cut once...make sure you’ve got your plan in place before you jump in the water and start cutting. I’m glad you were able to get it done though. I’m so happy you *never, ever* have to worry about kicking the bed post in the middle of the night again though, that is absolutely a win. Enjoy it my friend.
If some of you are going for the FINISHED WOOD look instead of covering with cloth.. Use wood ties (galvanized steel plates with holes) and shorter screws to attatch all the frame parts. Rout(or sand down) your edges, stain and finish.
@tylermaclachlan Hey Tyler, so cool my friend! I'm glad you were able to change it and make it work for you! I appreciate your time and support on this channel 🤝
I absolutely love that you included sizes and materials for all bed sizes. Thank you helped me alot with my decision on what type of bed I would like..
@cruz Ramirez Thanks so much my friend. I love that there are no bed posts to kick in the middle of the night! Thanks for stopping by and commenting! Talk to you soon.
Just a genuine question, would the bed frame overtime eventually effect the shape of the mattress? Considering a regular bed frame has a brace underneath. I’m considering making this and putting in a bit of a brace at the top too maybe 🤔
@El Saucey Hey Saucey, thanks for your time and interest. Yes, this frame will absolutely (negatively) affect your mattress if you don’t have either a box spring or some plywood as a base. Put either one of those on there first after you build the frame and you will be good to go. *Hundreds* of people have built this frame in several different sizes, I’m certain of it. Let me know if you need any help, I’ll be right there. Talk to you soon my friend.
Huge shout out to you man. Built this bed over the course of 2 weekends based off of your shared measurements. I used 2x8 for the base and 2x4 for the mattress support. I then ran 3 Douglas fir 4x4 posts along the head, core and foot of the mattress to further support the weight of memory foam mattress. Then added all kinds of cross supports off of the mains to where it looks like a checker board and added Simpson strong ties pretty much on every corner, 30 in total, then slapped sheet and a half of Masonite on top to evenly support the mattress. Then the leds lol. Filled all screw holes, sanded and am going to put a coat of flat black paint on it this week to clean it up. Thanks for your video and it's awesome, and presice measurements. I only altered the mattress frame to 79x59 and still used your base measurements. Thanks again
@Joshua Garcia Hey Joshua, wow, thanks so much for this very detailed comment of yours. It only took you two weekends to build this? Impressive...and who was this for?!! Seem like the governor or the president maybe. You put a lot in to your build. It sounds like you really could park a tank on there...or a couple. And 30 Simpson strong ties! My man...this bed frame is hurricane proof now. Instead of the flat black paint, you could just put a fitted queen size sheet over your assembly there and it should fit nicely with your modified 79x59 measurements...just a recommendation, I don't think the mayor will be too thrilled with that lack of effort right at the end though. 😂 Thank you for your feedback and your description, you are the real hero here. I'd sure love to see what this masterpiece looks like. Did you happen to take any pictures of your build? Talk to you soon Josh.
@@CurtisMadeIt I sure did man. I took a photo at every major step in the build. And I only thought about using the black paint as I already had a gallon. But yeah I may have went a little overboard on the structure for a 195lb guy but mattress is 14inches thick and I really want this to last a life time. Hate stubbing my toes lol. Could of got it done in a weekend maybe but work schedules and then working in the house around the babies nap schedules lol. All while not waking the babies. That would be bad lol Sorry for my long replies
@Joshua Garcia Well, I was gonna say let’s see it, but it looks like you already beat me to Instagram. I’ll move over there and take a look shortly. 👀 Good idea on the paint, way to be resourceful. I always try to use any scrap I can first. Oh yeah, it’s gonna last a lifetime, that is absolutely for sure. That’s the way it was built though, the way it was intended…just like mine. I *totally* understand the busy schedule and don’t mind your ‘long’ replies at all. It’s really humbling for me and is really a pretty big part of this RUclips experience for me. I never thought my channel was going to do this. It’s great to hear from you. Thanks for your time my brother.
@Authentic beauty_93 Thanks so much beauty, I really appreciate it! Comments like these really boost me up. This was my first ever RUclips video, and admittedly, not the best one out there in my opinion, but I sure very much love your enthusiasm! Thank you for your support and awesome compliments! I hope you have a safe build. Please let me know if you need anything, I'll be glad to help. Talk to you soon.
@Mommy Loyola So so cool Mom, I’m very glad to hear that! Let me know if you have any questions, I’ll be glad to help. Have a blessed day and a safe build!
NOE MARTINEZ Weird how that works isn’t it, Noe? It must be a sign. This is a super easy build and will give you fantastic results! Come back and let me know how easy it was. Thank you for your time and comment. 🙏
A. J. Paris Hey A.J.! So glad to hear it and I’m glad it worked out for everyone. I hope she loves it. Thanks so much for your feedback, I genuinely appreciate it a lot. Cheers brother.
Thanks for this video. Like many others I used it to build my own bed over the weekend. I got my LEDs coming in a few days and I wrapped the outside of the frame in black fabric also. It only took me a few hours to do everything. I definitely need to get some plywood though because my box spring makes my bed way too high off the ground.
@K1NG MATTHEW Hey Matthew, you are very welcome my friend. I'm glad you are happy with your new floating bed frame! Plywood will definitely take care of your height issue. The deck of my mattress is about 31" off the ground now because of the modifications I've made to this build. It takes some getting used to, but, as you already know, you do have options. Thanks for your feedback and comments here my brother, I really appreciate it a lot. Be careful. I'll talk to you again soon.
I was looking for the perfect diy frame for a custom sized mattress that I have ordered 108x80 inches. The mattress is massive, and I think this idea is solid and perfect. Any insight on base measurements to ensure this project comes out perfect, would be greatly appreciated. I do intend to use 2x8's to kind of prevent the mattress from sliding off.
@Ebony Wilkerson Lane Hey Miss Ebony, thanks for your interest and comments. I’ll have to sit down and design a frame just for you. That is a *very massive* mattress, far larger than anyone else has requested. Can you leave me your email address here or (preferably) reach me on Instagram? I’m C_Love1984 and I’ll personally work with you to make it happen. Talk to you soon!
Maurice Williams I’m not sure, I haven’t made it that far yet...and a very good question. I will have to think about how I will handle that. Thank you for your comment.
@William Michael Hey William, thanks a lot. I really appreciate your time and feedback! I’m glad to help whenever I can. Stay tuned for more great stuff on the way!
@SAMMY Thanks a lot Sammy, I appreciate it a lot. I promise you it is very very easy and the outcome is pretty hard to believe once you see it yourself in person. Thanks for your compliments my friend.
@Brian Tellinghuisen Thanks for your question Brian. These are a newer and apparently much more awesome set of the same lights that I used: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08DD45XQR/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B08DD45XQR&linkCode=as2&tag=clove1-20&linkId=f04b703e5174c25d7d741f120bd73ce1 The brand is Daybetter to answer your specific question. I hope this helps and thanks a lot for your interest!
@Mocha Just leave me your email address here or reach me on Instagram, I’m C_Love1984. I’ll beam over my hand drawing and step by step instructions. Talk to you soon.
@RandomStuff HD Awesome my friend, I’m so glad to hear it. Thanks so much for sharing your success. I appreciate your support of my channel a whole lot!
@Saed Zahr Thank you brother Saed. I really appreciate your awesome compliments, you are very nice. Please feel free to subscribe to my channel to be notified about videos that I will post in the future! Talk to you soon my friend.
The Fweece is a nice touch. Looks much more finished. Thanks for the whist of measurements. I’ve been trying to find someone who posted more than just a look at what I did video
@Austin Tibboel I appreciate that a lot, Austin, thank you so much. What a terrific compliment. I actually intended the fleece to be a cushion in case I bang my shin in to it, but I haven’t needed it at all to this point. It does look super nice though and I love the way it gives the lights and floating effect a nice, crisp appearance. I appreciate your time my friend, thanks for stopping by.
Adam This is among the top three best comments I’ve gotten to this point. ‘Rad’. You are the real man Adam. Thank you brother. It’s been there 6 months and seems to be solid as a rock still. No problems at all that I am aware of. I’ll be designing and building a headboard before too long. Video to come.
november9err Glad to hear it November! Let me know if you need anything else, I’ve already designed a floating bed frame for a king size too. Reach me on Instagram if needed. I’m C_Love1984. Cheers my friend.
rstezza Several people have told me IRL that our voices are very similarly sounding. I appreciate you taking a look and leaving me a comment and compliment. Thank you.
You did a nice job my brother, I was wondering if you thought about going with wider wood so the bed would sit higher so you didnt have to use a box mattress . Im 6"5 and I need my bed frame 2 feet off the floor without the mattress...just a thought
Royal Wilson Thanks a lot for your time and compliment Royal, I really appreciate it. I can accommodate this. Using 2x8’s instead of 2x6’s would give you an additional 4” height, would put the deck at 15”. No box spring would add another at least 3/8” for the plywood. There are quite a lot of comments on this video now, but user ‘wrecking crew’ is also apparently a very substantial man and he modified this build in a similar fashion to what I just recommended and said it works great! He is 6’2, 375, a real American. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me.
As i was building this bed frame I noticed I had a lot of scraps that I could have used instead of full peices. If you start cutting from the upper part you will have scraps that u can use and save some wood. You can save a few and won't need 13 2x6x8
@Elijah Saukov Hey Elijah, thanks for stopping by and pointing this out. This queen size DIY is the first video I had ever made so I still had, and still do have, lots to learn about producing these educational videos. I've still got quite a lot to learn in regards to carpentry to be honest, but that's a conversation for another time. About the cuts, I too realized this in the same order you did. At that time, I wasn't as well versed in video production as I am now. I help everyone as best I can and try to send you guys in the right direction. I do make sure to point this factoid out to those who reach out to me here and on other social platforms. I appreciate your time and support my friend. Stay blessed 🙏
Made this bed but with 2x10's on the outside and 2x6's everywhere else. We laid about 10 1x3's across the base, and just put the mattress straight into the recessed bed frame. The bed won't slip off if bumped and won't fall through the frame. Thanks for your idea!
@C W Hey C, thanks for stopping by and sharing your successful modification and build, this is super cool! I hope everything worked out well for you and I'm glad my video was able to inspire and assist you. I can't thank you enough for your support my friend. I look forward to talking with you again down the road. Take care.
@@CurtisMadeIt kinda funny, my gf ended up buying a pair of the shoes you wear in your full size bed video. People lost their minds about them at a festival haha
@C W True story...I bought those before I ever even had a thought of YouTubing and wearing those in the floating bed frame videos was kinda of a last moment thought, but it has tremendously worked out. Those things are a mega hit and I still love them every bit as much as the day I bought them. I hope she gets as much enjoyment out of hers as I do mine. Talk to you again soon.
Talavera jr I posted the head board modification, take a look if you would like. It’s DIY Floating Bed Frame Part 2 - The Headboard. Just added some tinder...and kindling. 😂
Amazing outcome and only cost me $85 !! If you do want to eliminate the box spring I recommend using 2x10x8 for the base so it sits higher with just a mattress! Love it
Just built my floating bed with this video measurements are spot on keep the videos coming. Just bought my first house and I’m always looking for little projects. Next I’m gonna build the cot hole boards you made
Matt Thanks a lot for your interest, feedback, and compliments Matt, I can’t tell you how much I appreciate it. I’m always working on a thing or two. I post about once a month, but I try to make it stuff that is unique and interesting. Thanks for your support brother.
I can’t wait to try this… 2 years ago I lost my Moma to COVID-19 and Dementia. I moved her home with me the last 3 years of her life. To do this I completely gave up my bedroom, I cannot bring myself to sleep in my old bed. I miss her so much, I’m hoping this new look will help me get back into my bedroom. Guess we will see!! Thank you!
@Tammy Peagler Hi Miss Tammy. This is so, so heartbreaking. I'm so sorry for the loss of your mother. I can't even imagine what that was like to have to experience. I hope you are bouncing back well and I'm glad that you've found my channel to help you renew your bedroom! Please feel free to reach me at any time on Instagram realc_love1 and I'll be glad to help you in any way that I can. I hope that you have a safe build and enjoy your new floating bed frame. Talk to you again soon Miss Tammy.
Thank you for posting this!! I may have seen it late, but it turned out awesome!! I saw your video on the headboard, but I decided to work up my own design on ours!!
@Tom Wolfert Hey Tom, you aren't late at all my friend, in fact, you are right on time! People are still discovering this video every day and I'm glad you took the time to comment here. I hope your build came out exactly the way you wanted and you are very welcome for the reference. I appreciate your support, let's talk again down the road.
@Rosariobeast31 I wish you would, I’ll be up there in just a moment. We’ll build two of them to prove it...and still be done by noon. Take a look at ‘part 2 - the head board’ and ‘floating bed frame 3.0’ if you would like. Let me know if you have any questions, I’ll be glad to help. Thanks for stopping by.
Let me simplify the confusing description. Basically for Queen bed, you need: (9x) 2 x 6 x 8 wooden planks (1x) 2 x 4 x 8 wooden plank 1 lb. box of 3 inch wood screws Hand saw or electric saw and tapemeasuring Props for the sturdy design and video, thanks so much man!
zFnk Hey z, I definitely do have some room for improvement. I appreciate you taking the time to make a recommendation and compliment me in the same comment, that is a really terrific approach. I’m glad people like you are around. Thank you.
zFnk I posted the head board modification, take a look if you would like. It’s DIY Floating Bed Frame Part 2 - The Headboard. Can you check at 0:59 seconds and make sure I made that easy enough please?
Thank you for including a material list, I relied on this as well as your measurements chart, saved me a bunch of time of measuring and remembering haha
@Jeremy Krause You bet my friend, I’m glad I was able to help. No more broken toes because of a bed post in the middle of the night for you ever again…only a few more billion people to go. Haha 😂 I hope you had a safe build and you are happy with it. This was my first ever RUclips video so it definitely isn’t the best production…check out the king size build for a similar video with *much* better editing. I appreciate your time, thanks for stopping by.
Moving to a new place and I will most definitely be using this idea. I just didnt want to buy one and kind of like it. But this here I love and I can make it thanks to your video!
Carlotta A I think you should Carlotta. It’s a super simple build with fantastic results! I appreciate your interest and hope you have a safe build. Let me know if you have any questions, I’ll be glad to help.
I'm gonna build this frame but I'm gonna add plywood over the top so I can eliminate the box springs. I'll either cover it in some cheap carpet or cloth for aesthetics
@Steven Burks Hey Steven, this is literally how I recommend to others to build without a box spring. You are on the right track my friend. I hope you have a safe build. Thanks for your time and support.
@The Ruths Yes, indeed it does. I really like talking to people from all over the world too. This has turned out to be a very rewarding experience on many different levels! Thanks for stopping by!
Hi there, do you have a complete material list, as in wood? I've watched so so many videos.. think I want to go with yours. Hoping you see this and respond.. would love to know exactly what and how many to buy and exact measurements plz... btw looks great
@Lonnie King Hey Lonnie, I see you 👀. Yep, I’ve got everything you need. Can you reach me on Instagram realc_love1 and I’ll get you all set up. Let’s make something great! Talk to you again soon my friend.
Ben Franklin Thanks for looking and leaving a comment Ben, I appreciate it a lot. Night stands are too low, I agree. I’m working on designing a headboard and will post the video for that as soon as I can. New built in (and placed higher) nightstands included! Stay tuned.
Nice work, dude! As soon as I finish the king size headboard, I’ll use your dimensions here for my daughters queen size mattress....pretty soon and thanks to you, all the bedrooms in the house will have floating beds! Lol 🤘🏼 good info here, keep kicking ass bro
@Matthew Nerlfi Hey Matthew, thanks for stopping by again. I appreciate your support, ambition, and enthusiasm. I'm absolutely beside myself that you are building floating bed frames for the whole house. I hope everyone turns out super happy and that all of your builds are safe. Please feel free to reach me on instagram reacl_love1 at any time and I'll be glad to help you with anything you may need. Take care Matthew, talk to you again down the road my friend.
@theaisanmob Go with 3" screws at your wood junctions and use 1 1/4" drywall screws to secure the L-brackets to the base and the frame. I hope this helps...I've just replied to your previous comment too. Apologies for the delay.
Big Burn I posted the head board modification, take a look if you would like. It’s DIY Floating Bed Frame Part 2 - The Headboard. I considered your comment quite a lot while editing this video almost a year later (from when I posted the first video, about 6 months after your comment here.). What do you think of this new video edit? Let me know on there if you would please, I would greatly appreciate it.
@SoulChild_Aya Hey, good morning Soul. My apologies for the confusion and delay in my reply here. The Simpson strong ties are used to secure the base to the frame. In this video, I just used the 2x4 off cuts to secure the base to the frame. I've since upgraded from the Simpson strong ties to "L" shaped corner brackets. Those are a whole lot more user friendly. Feel free to contact me on instagram Curtis_made_it and I'll be glad to help you as needed. I've got CAD blueprints available for all of these floating bed frames. Thanks for your time and support here. I hope you have a safe build when you get to that point.
@KA1SER Awesome my friend, you bet. Thanks for taking the time to come back and share your success. I appreciate your time and feedback, thank you again so much! I’m glad you had a safe build and hope you sleep well on your new frame. Talk to you soon.
Love the video. I’m in the uk and I’m going to try this but in Uk double size. I am going to adjust measurements to maintain 12inch overhang. My question is what are you using for mattress base as no slats? Can I just use a sheet of ply?
@flipzy403 Hey Flip, thanks for stopping by and I apologize for the delay in my reply, I've been working on a very time consuming and sensitive project, but I got it done! Double size, got it. If you are going to use a sheet of ply, I would drill several 1" holes in it to allow the mattress to breathe. Others have used cedar fence pickets but I always stick with recommending a box spring. I hope this helps. Thanks for supporting this channel my friend 🤝 I hope you have a safe build.
I live in Germany, and the climate is quite humid here. As wood moves and expands, or settles with time, how would you keep this type of bed from creaking in 1-2 years? I'm curently playing with the idea of building a bed like this, and the creakiness of wood is the only thing keeping me from it. I've read up on it some, and some people suggested using locktight on all the screws, or butting felt/cloth on all junctions. Have you had any problems with the bed creaking?
@Florian Eswein Hello Florian, thank you for your time and questions, I appreciate your correspondence and especially you letting me know what country you are from! I am in southern Texas, USA, and it is quite humid most of the year here as well. I personally have not had any issues with creaking, squeaking, or any other type of noise associated with the wood rubbing together at all on this frame. I am the only one that sleeps on here and, I’ll have to admit, I don’t jump on it *every* single day, but it has been totally fine for me. It’s super solid the way I built it. I would recommend 2 - 2 1/2” or 2 - 3” screws to secure down each junction. If you are really worried about it, you can use wood glue on the junctions, where the wood touches each other, and I think that would definitely help eliminate the potential for any future noises coming from the wood/frame. Not sure about locktite on the screws. Felt/cloth on all the junctions sounds like a ton of work. The wood creaking, honestly, was an after thought for me and it would have been *WAYY* too late to do anything about it anyways if I would have thought about it during the build. My bed frame is wood, screws, and no unnecessary or unwanted extracurricular noises at all. I hope this helps and let me know if I can do anything else. Talk to you soon.
@Charles Baron This is really insane. I’ve literally got a pretty large smile on my face imagining what it must have felt like the moment you realized you were about to save that kind of money. Cheers to you my friend, thanks for sharing. This is super terrific!
@johndoe-so1pc Hey John, it looks like your comment is appearing twice here. I'll send you the same reply here as I did with the other comment. ...Better late than never. I'm still here. What can I help you with so you can get this done? Let me know and I'll do the best I can. Thanks for your time and support on this channel my friend, I mean it 🤝
I was wondering about using 2x12's for the base.... what is your thoughts or feed back on this? Will it be too high for a queen sized bed? Will the base be too high and show (it is supposed to be "hidden")? I built a queen size exactly how your instructions say and it came out PERFECT!!! As a father of a D1 college kid..... this REALLY helped, financially!! I can not say how thankful I am for your video, and my daughter absolutely LOVED her new bed, along with her friends!!! I don't know how many...can your dad build me one too...we heard. lol. I loved the price....it seriously only cost me gas and time because I had the material on hand!!!
@Micah Young Hey Micah, many thanks for your very long and awesome comment, compliments, and feedback here, I really appreciate it. Please share my channel or video with your kids and their friends, I’d sure love that a lot! 2x12’s for the base: yes! The deck of the mattress will sit up higher, but you will get used to it and with a tiny bit more modification, that area can now function as an under bed storage area! Ideally, you want the base to stay hidden, yes but you can stain it black if you are really worried about it and that should hide it plenty enough. I hope this helps. I can not properly convey to you how appreciative I am of your compliments, support, and encouragement here. Thank you and I can’t wait to talk to you again.
Great build mate ... personally i would have added gas struts to the the platform to lift the mattress platform up ... for both easy cleaning as well as an opportunity to use the base for storing items like clothing or even adding a safe to it anyways just an idea
MOFLEX MUSIC INC. I posted the head board modification, take a look if you would like. It’s DIY Floating Bed Frame Part 2 - The Headboard. ...maybe not the follow up vid you wanted, I think that one is next (the base storage modification). In the mean time, I made a head board.
Great stuff C_love, just curious…we will not have a box spring to handle the spacing on the joists. I’m guessing I’ll need to lay down plywood on the frame to support the memory foam mattress or use slats and make them closer together. Thoughts? Thanks again for a cool bed design
@William Tell Hey, good morning William, thanks so much. You are correct sir, plywood on the deck of the frame will be just fine. You only need 15/32" or the 1/2"...nothing fancy or expensive at all. I hope this helps. I really appreciate your time and support my brother. I'll talk to you again down the road.
I’m looking to make a frame for a twin XL bed for our extra room and this looks perfect as grandkids will sleep there too. Any tips on changing the size? The mattress is 39” x 80”.
Di G Thanks for reaching out G, I’ll be glad to help. Leave me your email address here or reach me on Instagram(I’m C_Love1984) and I’ll beam my hand drawing right over. Talk to you soon.
I am planning my own floating bed and have a question. Is 12" overhang to each side risky because of tipping or is it stable enough? I am from Germany and we have other bed dimensions but your queensize bed is nearly as wide as my planned bed. Awesome video btw.
Elias Birkholz This bed frame is 100% rock solid. No tipping or tilting at all. Thanks for the compliment, I genuinely appreciate it. 12” overhang is what I did and I’ve had no problems at all. You can safely build this as I’ve demonstrated.
ik this is an old post, but you don't need any slats for this bed? or the cross pieces is enough for the mattress to lay on without feeling the spaces?
@joesire2977 Hey Joe, I'm still here, thanks for stopping by. You are going to need a box spring to support your mattress for sure. Those gaps in between the cross members in the frame are too wide to support any mattress. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions at all. I appreciate your time and support 🤝
@infamouswill3101 Hey Will, thanks for your question. This is because you need to account for the thickness of the other (side)boards. So, for example, your width is 60”…you cut those joists to 57” because the 2x6 side boards are 1.5” thick each, making 3”…that’s where the difference comes from. Does that help? Let me know what other questions you have and I’ll be right there. Thanks for supporting this channel my friend 🤝
Travis Cole Thanks for looking and taking the time to leave me a comment Travis, I appreciate it. I hope my tutorial helps and let me know if you have any questions please.
I like this another, Thank you. Any suggestions for a full? I was thinking measuring the box for the dimensions to build the upper frame but how much smaller would i need to build the small frame?
@Jonathan Rajasalu Yep, I’ve designed a floating bed frame for the full size too. I’ll be more than happy to share it with you. Tag me in your reply, @C_Love1, and leave me your email address here. If you don’t want to do that, I’m on Instagram C_Love1984. Reach me on there and I’ll beam everything you need right over. Talk to you soon.
You the man! Thank again for the custom design for a Full. Measurements were great and my daughter loves it. Everyone don't waste your time with other like designs THIS is it! 😉
@Jonathan Rajasalu Thanks so much my brother, I appreciate your time and wonderful feedback. I’m so, so glad everyone is happy, especially daughter! You are a real hero! Talk to you soon.
if you have used a Kreg pocket hole jig, you wouldn't see any of the screw holes. Plus, it's actually a lot faster and stronger when you put it all together.
I’m not seeing where the dimensions are for this, can you please send them to me?! I have a king bed and this is today’s project for me! Thanks for the great video!!
@Ashley Bouchard Hey Ashley, sorry for the delay in my reply, I just got home from the day job. King size bed frame, you in the USA? What’s your email address? Leave it here or reach me on Instagram, I’m C_Love1984, and I’ll beam everything you need right over. Talk to you soon.
@@CurtisMadeIt hey I was wondering how are 10 - 2x6x8 gonna be long enough for the sides because they look longer than 2x6x8
@@CurtisMadeIt so would I need to cut any wood
@Myles King Yes, you, or someone, is gonna have to cut the pieces of wood you buy in to the correct lengths.
Darrell Barger Thanks for your time and feedback Darrell. This is unquestionably the best reply I’ve had on this video. You are the real hero brother.
C_Love1 hey, is there any way that you would kindly email me the instructions too .. I would really appreciate it 🥺♥️
Jessica Atanacio Hey Jessica, I would be glad to!
Joshua Bryant This is terrific Joshua, thanks so much for the wonderful feedback!

Super easy to build! Solid as a rock!
Thank you!!

Wrecking Crew Thank you for the feedback, this is Excellent! I’m glad your modifications worked and I appreciate the support!
Wrecking Crew about how much did you spend on wood
Keith Howell about $50 total in wood and screws. This frame is rock solid and I highly suggest.

Thank you so much for this video! I made this bed frame yesterday and it took me a few hours and cost under 100$. Super sturdy bed frame!

How did you get under $100? It cost $105 just to get 10 2x6x8ft lumber at my home depot
@T-Rent Times have changed my friend. This video was made pre-covid...before the massive spike in lumber prices. I share in your frustration at the current cost though. I hope it gets better soon. Let me know if I can help at all.
@@CurtisMadeIt Yeah I realized that after a quick google search :/ Luckily I found someone on Facebook who is selling pieces for $6 each :)

Aamir Merchant Thank you Aamir!
This video will never get old.
@waitdigital Hey Wait, thanks so much. I hope that’s a good thing. I appreciate you supporting this channel my friend 🤝

Thank you 🙏

TMP STUDIOZ LLC Oh yeah, this is a great idea TMP. Thanks a whole lot for your recommendations, hopefully someone can put them to use!
Hi I am 55 and going to make this while my husband is at work 🤣 your instructions are so good that I believe I can thank you
Tinamarie Kizzar So cool Miss Tina. I appreciate the compliment. You are very ambitious! Be careful and let me know if I can help any more at all.

Letting the paint dry on mine👍🏻 made a few changes but over all your design. Thank you!
Brian Dunn This is terrific feedback Brian, thanks so much for your time and compliment. I appreciate your support brother.
@@CurtisMadeIt no problem.
this looks so professional😱 soo good
@cruz Ramirez Thanks so much my friend.
@Malaina Seegers Did you get all the info you need to complete your build?
Making this tomorrow. I’m super excited!! I’ve watched other videos but THIS ONE is the BEST!!! 😊😊😊
What are the dimensions measurements for the queen?
Okay so I’m going with the 12in overhang but with a full sized bed wish me luck, also thank you for the video keep up the good work
Awesome, and so glad to hear it. Make sure and adjust your measurements to fit your bed size and let me know if I can help at all.
Sweet!! Looks very sturdy. Do you have to take it all the way apart when moving ?
Maurice Williams I’m not sure, I haven’t made it that far yet...and a very good question. I will have to think about how I will handle that. Thank you for your comment.
Wish i could post a picture. This video made it very easy. Took me less then 2 hours. So cool! Thanks for the idea, and the help!

Where did you buy your led lights from. Specifically what is the brand you bought?? Thanks
@Brian Tellinghuisen Thanks for your question Brian. These are a newer and apparently much more awesome set of the same lights that I used:

The brand is Daybetter to answer your specific question. I hope this helps and thanks a lot for your interest!
@@CurtisMadeIt did you use 50ft or 25 ft
@Atm Dee I would go with the 50ft. It’s a much better value and will make your bed frame *glow*! Thanks for stopping by.

Pretty Rad, wish I thought of that when I built ours. I just wonder how durable it will be, long term of course.
Adam This is among the top three best comments I’ve gotten to this point. ‘Rad’. You are the real man Adam. Thank you brother. It’s been there 6 months and seems to be solid as a rock still. I think Vin Diesel is doing the voice over
rstezza Several people have told me IRL that our voices are very similarly sounding.

(9x) 2 x 6 x 8 wooden planks
(1x) 2 x 4 x 8 wooden plank
1 lb. box of 3 inch wood screws
Hand saw or electric saw and tapemeasuring
Props for the sturdy design and video, thanks so much man!

@theaisanmob Go with 3" screws at your wood junctions and use 1 1/4" drywall screws to secure the L-brackets to the base and the frame. I hope this helps...I've just replied to your previous comment too. Apologies for the delay.

Where does the Simpson strong ties come into use. Eye’m a visual learner Wu it was hard for me to see where they were used
@SoulChild_Aya Hey, good morning Soul.
Thanks bro, I just saved 5000 bucks building my bed frame for an Alaskan king size mattress. Used your video
@Charles Baron This is really insane. I’ve literally got a pretty large smile on my face imagining what it must have felt like the moment you realized you were about to save that kind of money. Cheers to you my friend, thanks for sharing. This is super terrific!
hey i know im 3 years late but im trying to build myself one this weekend for a queen size bed and was hopping i can get the measurements as well.
You just got yourself a new subscriber!!!
@Jack em up garage You just got yourself a new friend! Thanks for your support Jack, I'll talk to you again down the road.
Built this today for my son. Was easy to make. Looks great!
Roel Al So glad to hear it Al, thank you so much for your feedback!
Roel Al I posted the head board modification, take a look if you would like. It’s DIY Floating Bed Frame Part 2 - The Headboard
Great build mate ... personally i would have added gas struts to the the platform to lift the mattress platform up ... for both easy cleaning as well as an opportunity to use the base for storing items like clothing or even adding a safe to it anyways just an idea
MOFLEX MUSIC INC. Thanks for your time and comment Moflex, this is definitely a great idea, one worth considering if I modify it in the future. 🤔
C_Love1 ... lol 😆 I’ll be waiting for that follow up vid ... looking forward to it
In the meantime enjoy ur new crib mate
This was my first big build ever measurements were perfect great video
Boss Thanks so much Boss. Your feedback is priceless. Glad everything worked out well for you.

@@CurtisMadeIt Thank you for your quick answer👍✌
ik this is an old post, but you don't need any slats for this bed? or the cross pieces is enough for the mattress to lay on without feeling the spaces?
@joesire2977 Hey Joe, I'm still here, thanks for stopping by. You are going to need a box spring to support your mattress for sure. Those gaps in between the cross members in the frame are too wide to support any mattress. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions at all. I appreciate your time and support 🤝
Okay so if a queen mattress is 80”x60” why are we doing measurements and cuts under those numbers? Only asking because I’m confused.
Super cool. Most likely be building one like this myself
@@CurtisMadeIt thank you chase8025@yahoo.com
@Jonathan Rajasalu Got it and done. Let me know if you need anything else and I’ll be glad to help.
Paul Fielder Wow, thanks for the tip Paul, I appreciate it a lot. I’m going to look in to this. 👀
