I thought I was going to hate this, as the Rawnstercross had a pretty sweet build. In the end, I loved it. We evolve and so do our bikes. That frame has a soul and bucket loads of nostalgia.
Hey Brad, hope you're well. I was way into it as well, those Easton forks look awesome. Do you still have the Trek? MY AWOL's long gone but I have a couple of other bikes right now.
@@markthorrowgood3266 Hey Mark! Yes, I still have the Trek, but it's currently in St. John's, and I living in Goose Bay now. I've been using my 1987 Norco Bigfoot as my commuter/Dad bike, with my Kona Unit as my mountain bike. It's been pretty nice.
I’m glad you’re still making videos, I’ve been out of the loop bike wise for a good few years now and it’s cool to see you still here in the space doing your thing bud
though I like the look of the mismatched, thrown-together fork and frame combo, I definitely preferred the black fork and the blue tires with the silver frame. Just looked so cool! It inspired me to get ESI grips in the similar blue with my silver Poseidon FX. Good choice on the flat bars and single speed, though! Enjoy!
4:57, channeled the spirit of the Macho Man, lol. I like the new build. I wish you could've kept the blue tires on there, but I fully understand why you didn't. It would've clashed with the fork, and they were too nice for a commuter compared to the tan walls with the beefier tread.
I have a Swobo Sanchez fixed gear from 2009-ish that's been neglected. I'm somewhere between "I don't want to change it" and "there's no way in hell I'd change it" and "I don't ride it much the way it is right now so I should change it and see if that motivates me to ride it more." You might have inspired me, my man! Currently it's got some (nearly) flat bars. Maybe I'll hunt down some drops. I think it's probably a good idea to just refresh all the bearings on it...but that sounds like a pain in the ass! New, shorter cranks would be sick. New saddle would be sick. New stem would be sick. It's practically a new bike at that point! We'll see what happens. I don't get enough bike time the way it is so I'm going to be hard pressed to dig through pages of google to find a bottom bracket for it when I could instead be ripping' some twisty singletrack on the mtb. Winter approaches. Maybe that'll be the bike thing to get me through the cold. I appreciate your uploads and your outlook on bike/life. Thanks for all that!
You sure do know how to make a guy want to covert his own bike to single speed lol, I’ve always loved the many versions we seen of this bike since it was first introduced to channel years ago
Awesome bike! Would love to see a Tinker Tuesday using a ISCG-05 BB adapter and ISCG-05 mounted chain tensioner with a pulley wheel... Seems like it'd be another clean setup for all the vertical dropouts out there
I get the build, but not sure why the fork swap was done. I remember the video where you swapped the fork on this bike to lessen toe overlap; so, what's the deal here?
Quick release wheel is my guess! Edit: the orginal fork is quick release also. 🤦♂ Second guess is brake posts for v brakes instead of the canti brakes (would require mini v's i believe).
There’s no rhyme or reason, just a change. The Easton is also cheaper and less likely to break my heart if it gets broken while sitting on the job site
Half link in the chain and a narrow-wide chainring? I was led to believe that won't work. Does it? Is it because it's a 1/8" BMX chain? In any case, glad to have you back posting regularly!
I just had an inkling of a feeling that this might happen, I’ve been seeing my Rawnstercross-esque Ti Bike going back as a flat bar bike, and honestly I might just do it. 😂 Love how Rawnstercross doesn’t have a final form yet. 😅
@@Spindatt haha fair enough. They're impossible to get now 😔. I don't know if whisky will do another run of them. I'm tempted to just buy the no.9 CX fork and convert the front brake to a disc brake. (Paul klamper front, Paul minimoto rear)
Noice, SS hybrid lessgo!!! Awe man, it would be fascinating how much weight difference there was between the 2 builds. It had to lose a couple pounds at least, right?
@@Spindatt I keep thinking about building up a single speed, but I'm not sure my old man knees can take the hills like they did 15 years and 30ish pounds lighter ago.
YES!!! While the blue tire build was very aesthetically pleasing, what you wound up with has that working bike beauty that I dearly love. I loved this episode. Also - riding in work boots sucks. Leave them b*tches at work if you can. (Like you didn’t already know that.)
I thought the old build was a bit more appealing aesthetically, but I appreciate the change in your desires being reflected in your bike! I think some alt bars like koga denham or surly maloko would be perfect for this bike so you still have flat bars but also the hand positions of drops
hipster skinny jeans, check. hipster boots, check. hipster man bun, doh! puts on hipster hat to cover up space X launch pad! Always something to chip away at
I needed a good Spindatt video. Keep them coming.
I liked the Rawnstercross assembly video series a lot. Including the re-polishing.

Nothing can rejuvenate the use of a bike quite like changing it completely
Damn, the bike that inspired me to build and tinker with my bikes. Glad to see it in use again. Kinda hate the fork tho lol
Very nice Casio watches! The
A158 and F91-W!
You noticed the switch!
You hurt my heart.
RawnsterX was perfect.
Never got ridden though haha
@@Spindatt that's fair
My main commuter is a 42x18 Singlecross.
That’s a good gear
So glad the Rawnstercross is back in rotation!
Let’s break some stuff!
Need to see a monster tracklocross.

Old school video! Love it!
We are so back!
It's cool to see something that's not used being altered to be usable again. Saying that, I think it was my favorite ever road bike 😢
Original fork had a nice shape
Yeah but it’s too fancy to have parked at a job site
Making me feel guilty for not using my single speed to commute 😅 Nice job, and nice to have a chill video to start the day.
LOL I mean, he’s not a daily driver! Just in the mix
One day drop bars will come back.
Nothing is off the table

Must turn bolts
Looks so good, big fan

Yep ya made ol rawnster too nice n pretty to ride daily. Glad you went back to basics with the singlespeed setup
What's the difference between the two forks? Was it because you changed the wheel size?

This is correct
You should take this to SSCXWC in Madison

I did
Any interest in selling that whisky fork and shipping it across Canada?

Flat bar all the bikes
How about sticking a fixed wheel on it for the commute to see which you prefer?
Possible

All of his bikes are in pretty rough shape..
I'm sorry to say, but the before was so much better.
