Seriously Doug, if I wasn’t interested in wood carving I would still watch your channel. You enthusiasm and your gentle humour are a balm for the weekly chaos. The fact that I am interested in carving makes your channel a double bonus.
I want my boys to get started but trying to come up with a plan to introduce them to knife safety.
Opinel actually has some proper children's pocketknives with a rounded end
The Bob Ross of wood carving.
New, new, new,,, who knew. I've never seen anything like that. Quite inspiring. And you make it look easy.
thank you for magical tutorial, sielulintu (soul birds from Finnish folklore) are wonderful charms/talismans, traditionally created by grandparents for children (to hang over cradles or just in the house to bring calm and ward off the evil). they are connected with shipbuilding and mostly were made of mast pine, so great to see them evolving and transforming, keeping the antient craft alive) hope i would be able to create some birds of happiness too
My what.... "Oh my ASH is old and dead.. " Sorry, heard that wrong!
I heard that the same in post but couldn’t cleanly edit it out lol
@@dougLinker Thanks for the laugh Doug! And the inspiration!
This is like watching a kid play with his Legos. He's having so much fun!
Oh wow! Never heard of fan carving so thanks for the introduction. You're already good at it!
How amazing how far these carvings have come in such a short time.I remember watching you early on and this is next level Doug. You are awesome bud!
You have some crazy awesome talent Doug! This is so cool!
He's almost a kingfisher - just missing the top-notch :D Cool project Doug
Another great video my friend ..excellent teaching and knowledge .. You are the best my friend
Now, that was incredibly interesting - I can see why you are so obsessed with the concept. Thank you for sharing!!
How about an angel? I want to make a tree for the Festival of Trees in my city and these would be great.
Those little birds would look so pretty painted and hanging in a garden to blow gently in the breeze .But would need bringing in during the winter I think 🥰
"Typical youtuber..." 😁 Yup. I see that all over and do the same. Cool little technique, Doug!
What kind of bird this is? I'd say it's a kingfisher :)
Another surprise! And very appreciated! Awesome ideas, thank you Doug.
Well this is your last video so I will comment on this. YOU ARE BEST for me, I am 1 year of watching you and trying to repeat things like you.well I have not knives like that because in my country (Georgia)nowhere is this kind of things. Here wood workers only carv like religion things and none of them doing it with tools like you so mu dad make that kind of knive for me (he really knows working on iron) so now I have that one knive and trying to repeat your moves well I write this because I want to know you that .YOU change 15 year's old boy's life I am really happy of doing this things and my dream is to work with you maybe just only one time and have tools like you. LOVE YOU from Georgia and you are not one who is happy of doing this thing I am happy too to just watching on it and trying to repeat.i can't stop writing this text ...... LOVE You so much
Looks like a kingfisher. Beautiful.
That is an awesome one piece bird wood carving!
Pretty cool Doug! I wanna make a mobile with those, wanted to buy the flexcutdrawknife anyway!
Great episode Doug. I enjoyed Joni's method; your method adds a different aspect. Thank-you.
What a great job Doug! I would have cut through that hinge and into my hand instantly LOL
Again Doug you have inspired me to do something new. I never carved until I saw you. I didn’t know anything about cottonwood bark carving. And now fan bird carving. Just keep being you. Thank you Doug.
I love the traditional carvings that you do but that is one really cool project. Eyeing up the only cedar on my property.
Love it, keep it up Doug ! 🤗
That's so magical. I just discovered your channel. Thanks for sharing.
Whooooo that is really something Doug! 👍
You are quite the talented carver just a wonderful job🤓👍👍
Great carving talent Doug but I miss your camping videos, stay safe 🌈❤️🇵🇭
Well we’re still locked down so...
Doug thnks for the skill show really neet super cool.
Omg how fun. My mom sat back and watched too
1:44 I can't help myself. I laughed so hard when you said my Ash is old and dead. He said what? 🤣
An a bit punky 🤣
@@paulrooster2108 😆
Looks like a kingfisher! It shows you're having a lot of fun with these. 👍
Something new to do thanks Doug
How come you have not been out camping for a while Doug?
Awesome thanks again for a great idea! Trying to keep up with you. Lol
That was so fascinating and awesome. Way to go. 🌟 the wet wood looked waxy even, looked like soft butter carving. How fun!
Gorgeous, it reminds me of a Kingfisher.
I get the same relaxed, easy going feeling watching you as I did watching Bob Ross! You make it look so effortless, and you seem to truly enjoy every little project. There’s something about the sound of cutting wood with a good sharp knife that sooths me.
Amazing. I’ve been fascinated by these for years. I may have to try and make one. Thankyou for your videos Doug.
WOW Doug this is pretty dang cool...❤
Oh wow! Doug these are so beautiful... I had to wait a bit before I could sit down and watch this. What a treat to see such a delicate carving, I was on tenterhooks throughout wondering how it could possibly stay together before it dried, I could watch you make those all day, thanks. 🙏
Lost track of you. Don’t know another way to contact. Hope all is well. Don’t go away. Too good to lose. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
doug, I viewed another channel 'the woodwrights shop s37 lumberjack fan carving'. I think possibly this may offer you a tip or two on tucking the feathers(blades) and instruction on making a fan. just a suggestion.
Thanks!
oh Doug i dunno how i missed this.....can i give you 100+ likes, first thou, let me make a spoon first.. :-)
Hi Doug, hello from Ireland! I am wondering if you could do a carving of a Sphinx ? like the sphinx from Egypt ? thank you
My garden doesn’t have any big rocks , can I use one from my driveway? ❤️😃
Doug, you and your channel got me into carving. Keep up the great content. P.S. I love that you’re doing a video on bird carving and driving with bird droppings on your window 😂
Nice work!! Do you have any links to the books you talked about? Also that small “drawknife” you used, where did you buy that?
seatbelt. how schouldt we live on if you get an accident...... greetings from the netherlands
Fascinating! Love chasing ideas, best way to waste a day... or five. ;)
Doug is very inspiring. I just orderd a Riving Knife after watching this vid for the first time.
And they are really useful in the kitchen.
Now I have the will to puchase one.
Very cool! I love those birds! Good job. I know you are are real bird guy so I wanted to tell you what's going on in Indiana and Kentucky. Our birds are dieing. Hope it doesn't go north. We are supposed to take down our bird feeders and baths an bleach them and not use them until they figure out what it is and stop it. They said song birds. Your supposed to use rubber gloves to pick them up. They have swelling in their eyes and discharge. Thank you great video!
That’s pretty cool. Can you make a turkey for Thanksgiving, or would the feather angle be too hard to achieve?
Howdy doug you do amazing hand crafts. And you are right not to many people have the patience to make wood look beautiful.
Thanks Doug I use fish hooks for hanging things just clip off the curve and done i don't fish anymore so anyway.
Amazing, beautiful work!!!
This is new to me. Good way to make a lot of kindling if I did it. Good job. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Looks like them fan birds have shit all over yr car window as well lol. U know I will be making them. Thanks 👍🏼
Good times watching you Doug As always. Nasty scratch . Stay safe
How is it going Doug? Hope you guys are staying cool, hot down here in Md.God Bless?
Very cool indeed, Doug! Amazing how strong those wood fibers are!
Those would be wonderful hanging on a porch so they could “fly” on a breeze 💗
Hey Doug, its been 3 weeks or so since we have seen your mug on here. Are you ok? The family ok? Where you at bud?
Ok who’s jealous? ,,,, just me!? Amazing Doug
This is so awesome! Very nice. Thank you very much for this.
Wow. Always wondered how to do these. Never took the time to figure it out. But now I've seen this video, and for sure I'm going to try.
Hi Doug. You tube Sean Hellman he has been making fan birds for years.
Very cool! Hey Man, I posted my new video yesterday and I gave you a shout out. I carve on of your bearded guys.
have you ever tried dying the water when you soak the wood? I wonder if it would give a gradual color change to the wood and make a variegated "feather"
Doug have you ever carved a bird that you can put a magnet on the back for the refrigerator.
Damn! haven't even ordered my first tools yet and I can wait to get to those skill levels
Thank you Mr. Linker..Truely appreciated !!
What brand of draw knifes do you use?
Very nice birds.
Doug if you couldn’t be a woodcarver what would you be
I like the way you had bird poop on your car window for authenticity.
Have you abandoned us Doug?? It’s been over a month!
Very very good I love your channel I have learned allot from it
I love something new! Thnx bunches!💖
Can you make a video on how to make a wizard from a stick or dowl rod
Well done! I would never had guessed that it was one piece of wood. I would brought out the super glue lol
Looks like the birds like the window of your car. Lol
Omg that's so cool. I will definitely try this..
Love the wood video any new camping video coming soon
Seatbelt?? But great carving. Loved it
I am a beginning whittler and I love your videos in which you explain how to....
The thing is... I live in Europe and we have different measurements and also complete different sizes of woodblocks we are able to buy.
(Chopping down is prohibited overhere).
And that frustrates me because I cannot whittle your fantastic creations by following your videos step by step.
Unfortunately whittling is not a populair thing in my country and there are no videos about it with our measurements and block sizes.
But I absolutely love the way you show people how to create nice things from wood.
If it doesn’t say tutorial it’s not -i cannot invest the time to make them all tutorials and quite frankly they do the worst views anyway.that said go back and watch the last few and you will see i give imperial and metric measurements
Check out Sally Nye at FanCarversWorld.com. She has been promoting and teaching fan carving for decades. She will also answer any questions you might have, very generous with her time and knowledge.
That’s the link i mentioned in description
Beautifully done great video
Wow. That is beyond awesome.
I know your a pro but still I kind of cringe when you pull the draw knife towards your chest/ belly area. How do you avoid getting splinters???
Make the motion of pulling the drawknife towards yourself -almost impossible to get close
That was a fun project. Thank you, Doug. I cannot get your merchandise link to go to your store. I land on a general teespring sign up page. What am I doing wrong? :)
Should be pics of merch below video to click on
What are you going to carve next?
Amazing and beautiful 👍
Great video, thank you
Well done Doug!!
Are you still making these? Any progress on the woman in the dress or the flowers? Super cool
I just made a flower “short” video last week
Doug - Stop it with the ideas! I have so many ideas rattling around in my head now I have another!! 😂 The fan birds are so cool and I love the traditional origins - definitely added to our list of things to have a go at - great video by the way 👌
This is awesome!
Blessings ~
Neat little project, I probably won't do it fot a few years. I just started wood carving a couple months ago. Thank you for inspiring a new hobby in me!
