    Transcription
Before I start carving I need to do a lot of studying.
The first thing I like to do is sculpt a little clay model to help me visualize the shape I want.
We don't have any Cottonmouths in my area. So my friend Edward Mercer was kind enough to send me some videos and pictures.
The Cottonmouth, or Water Moccasin, lives in the swamp lands of the Southeastern US.
It's a poisonous viper that spends most of its time in or around the water.
    As I'm carving,
I realize it is going to be a real challenge to wood burn the scales in the tight curves of the snake's body.
As the nights get colder, I like to make sure the little birds get plenty of food; they need to fatten up for the winter.
While I'm enjoying the Chickadees, Pearl watches closely for Jay birds and Squirrels.
She doesn't get along with them very well.
I need to make a few special wood burning tips for this project.
I've gone as far as I can with the regular scale tips, and it's finally time to deal with those hard-to-reach areas.
Here's what I came up with to get the job done.

I made friends with a woman who had grown up there. She would take me out into fields that had ponds and we'd just jump in and swim. I'm pretty sure we scared most any animal/reptile that lived within a half mile of the ponds. But thinking back on it, I'm just glad we survived! Great memories.

As always you have taken apiece of wood and made it look like a living creature. Each piece you create is a one of a kind work of art worthy of a place in any natural history museum. Thank you for sharing.

Boy Mike watching your Cottonmouth video sent chills up my spine . I live here in the Southeast and those what we call Water
Moccasins are all around us in the Tennessee river. I've had close encounters with these but blessed in never been bitten by one . Excellant job and I love that banjo picking as well . Thank you for another great video .

So beautiful and realistic. The finished result looked so real - as if it was just about to strike at any moment. Yet another future museum piece.
