It is a real privilege to be able ta watch an artist at work. What an inspiration. Thank you for sharing your art with the rest of us. Absolutely beautiful.
I absolutely love that you show your WHOLE process. I wish more people would be honest about the tools they use and just show it for the love of the craft. I am a huge fan of rotary tools, and I wish more people showed how they use them. Please make more videos like this. I absolutely adore watching them and learning the process you use.
Great looking Smaug's Eye Carving. The first red wheel carving tool is fantastic. I used to carve wooden signs about thirty years ago. That tool would have changed my life. ha ha.
My 4 yr old son and I watch your channel all the time as his treat before bedtime. He absolutely loved this one!! He's a pretty big fan. He loved the dragon head too!!
Edward James III That is really cool to hear! I assume most 4 year olds watches minecraft videos all day so it is nice that i can contribute with something else! Wish you and your son all the best! Jonas
I know this is an old vid but just started watching your channel and I must say it is brilliant! I started my adventure with woodworking a few years back but unfortunately, it is still just a hobby. Still, from furniture, i proceeded to smaller projects and now I made stuff from popsicles, etc (tall ships, jewelry boxes) :) but to the shore... I love your content because it is co calm, has no frustrating music, just wood carving, and your comments. I have been watching YT channels related to the topic for quite a long time, looking for some inspiration and YT finally showed me your videos. I do not have such advanced tools and workshop to do the projects but the point is that you are a great mentor! your work is amazing, and it shows that nothing is impossible :) For the first time, I just sit with my jaw open and truly enjoy the video, watching how to improve my skills and learning a LOT! THANK YOU!!!
You've outdone your self my friend. This looks so realistic its like watching the end of the first Hobbit movie. Love your work and love watching you so please, keep it coming because I cant wait till the next one.
Omgoodness Jonas, I found your videos on Thanksgiving day and honestly I'm thankful for you. You really have a wonderful gift and Im grateful that your sharing it with all of us. 😊❤!!
Classic Jonas, What a man you are, The end result, so artistic and perfect, you must be proud. When you were sanding at your Parents house you reminded me of Mike Stinnett minus the little dog Pearl and minus the bushy beard!!! You seem to be comfortable with your life as does Mike, good luck in your future endevours my friend, from John in England.
Thanks John! I am spending a lot of time up at the cabin lately and it is very good for me. It is fun to show a bit "behind the scenes" in my videos :)
I love that you show your exact routine even where the spot you go to think and relax and figure out your thoughts. It has helped me and im sure manh other people
Awesome art. I would hame fashioned the eye out of colored resin and put a small red LED in the back attached to a motion sensor in from so when anybody passed by the eye lighted up. Beautiiful work as-is tho.
I am by no means an expert and I'm a huge fan of the final product but I thought from the thunbnail that you were going to use orange resin and form it to shape so that you could potentially put a light behind it and make it glow or just have a more eyball looking texture! That could be cool for a future project!
Jonasolsenwoodcraft you should do a huge wall mural out of little pieces of wood carved into a scene from the Hobbit move like when the dragon is looming over Bilbo and looking down at him with one eye you carved the eye now all that is needed is the rest of the scene like the gold, Bilbo, pillars, etc. that would be very awesome.
Wow! Good work. I enjoyed your video very much. It is interesting that you used more sanding machines than cutting with chisels or gouges. The eye is amazing. Thanks for a great video.
Very righteous little brother! Since I do a plethora of different types of wood art with different machines I'm getting a kick out of watching you do this work. Although I knew sanding could highlight, I'd never thought about using it as a primary sculpting method... Way to go! Peace
This is amazing! ♥ I loved the "another woodcarving tip is to subscribe to this channel", lmao. I don't see a lot of channels that do wood carving using hand-tools-- most of the ones I see seem to favor wood-turning-- so I absolutely adore your videos! By the way, would you be willing to do a "tour" of your workshop and show what tools you have and what their primary uses are? I'm trying to get into wood carving/wood turning and I'm not really sure where to begin, or where to learn about the tools used in this craft, and I learn best from videos. Thank you! :)
Thank you! well it is funny that you mention that i use hand tools, but actually a few people are mad at the for using powertools :D Yes i can do a tour, but then i will have to do a lot of cleaning first :D
What a beautiful piece of art! It is astounding the way you finished it off. The pupil turned out amazing! What type of multi tool do you use? I have a Dremel, but you're seems to have a little bit more power than mine. I'm truly curious. Many blessings to you!
I would have never guessed. I saw you use the grinding stones as you were placing the last bit of detail on that beautiful piece. I've never seen a grinding stone used that way. Fantastic video! Many blessings!
I watched this video a long long time ago, just randomly. I’ve been watching this channel now for like a month regularly, and I this pops up. I had no idea it was this channel I watched back years ago. Lol… love this piece. I hope to one day be in a position to start woodworking myself, probably not carving but building stuff. Still, I find this stuff fascinating.
Thanks for sticking around! I had a pretty long break so most of my long term subscribers are lost. It always makes me happy to see those who ars still here! I hope you get to start woodworking yourself! For me having a small place to do some artsy stuff means a lot!
heh you shouldnt have glued the piece in the back. either hinged it or even just pinned it... could have kept something back there... would have been poetic hehe keep a secret in the eye of the dragon..
Ho hoho ho, I'm very impressed. I will definitely going to follow you, and learn all I can. Maybe the toy Maker can learn more. I always think so. Got to get back to the reindeer practices. Ho hoho ho Thank you for keeping real art alive.
@@Jonasolsenwoodcraft This? Landmark? No way! This is just a comma in the paragraph of your career! Obviously I am just kidding and trying to get you to part with it! ;) I completely agree, this thing is probably the most beautiful and technical thing I have seen made in a LOOONG time of watch RUclips. If I were you I would never part with it, unless to hand down to a child!
May I ask how you take care of the amount of dust that the Dremel creates? Because I tried doing it in my basement and I ended up getting dust in places that I didn't think it went
I dont and its a mess all over the place!! But i got myself a fairly cheap industrial vacum cleaner that i will use. The best option would be to get some kind of dust collector close to your workstation
The carving was beautiful, the burl wood was beautiful, the artist was beautiful, the scenery was beautiful, the whole darn video was gorgeous. Great job!
hahaha 😂 smaug is one hell of a challenge, even the designers must have had a little trouble drawing him, so your job with this piece was amazing to watch, respect!

I'm super impressed with your wood carving little bench that wore EX I've never seen anything like that and I'm a wood carver and I've been searching for something that I didn't have to build to hold my pieces your video is Awesome by the way don't stop I want to see more
About this work was said enough, it's very beautiful, but I will say about the wonderful landscape of the shooting, all the time I wanted to have a lake near the house, you are blessed!
I subscribed and liked and you were right, my carving skill dramatically jumped to the next level.
Really?? I was just joking about that
😂
LOL, I caught that too!

There are actually two pieces of magnificent art in this video. One is the incredible wood carving and the other is him😍☺️

I love the way that the natural Wood grain. To do it's natural thing, it's awesome to keep up the good work.
That's amazing. I wondered what you were doing when you cut out the eye. Unexpected, excellent finish!
Great looking Smaug's Eye Carving.
The first red wheel carving tool is fantastic.
I used to carve wooden signs about thirty years ago.
That tool would have changed my life. ha ha.
It turned out amazing. I really loved how the eye has a glossy shine over it making it look realistic like. Keep up the good work

I'd pay good money to own that piece of art!!! Stunning craftsmanship.
Wow looks amazing and the eye feel like Smaug watching you
I really liked the voice explaining what you are doing 👌
Thanks! i got a mic yesterday so i will probably keep doing voice overs :)

That is gorgeous. When I saw the thumbnail for the video I thought the eyeball was made of resin it really amazing how the whole this is made of wood.
Dude I don’t know how you do it but that was amazing once again ! Good job !!!
I m so glad you gave us few minutes of your amazing job. From France
Awesome art. I would hame fashioned the eye out of colored resin and put a small red LED in the back attached to a motion sensor in from so when anybody passed by the eye lighted up. Beautiiful work as-is tho.
It seems that every time you surpass yourself with such beautiful pieces

Yeah that is true, but i like to stick with just wood. I feel like it is more authentic that way 😃

Toshiro_Hitsugaya that sounds grest! Remeber the most importent thing: To have fun along the way! Good luck
Wow that's amazing i really like how life-like it looks and the eye turned out.

From past vids, he says he uses mostly Birch.
