It is 5AM where I am. I have been awake since two o clock, and can’t sleep. My partner and I have been working on a complex craft project together for a big event, and I spent the whole of yesterday working, while feeling like I was getting very little done... Thank you for the reminder to look after my mental health, and to not work myself to the bone. Even with all of your struggles, you’re still an example to the people who watch your work. Thank you, and best of luck on your camping trips. I hope you get to enjoy sleeping under a clear, starry sky soon.

2:24 I first thought that mouse fella was in a coffee mug. I think he would look absolutely lovely peering out of a mug with such a happy expression.
I love how the roots end down at the bottom.
I can relate with your struggles. I've been burned out for quite a while now. I'm hoping that I can start exercising a bit to get some more energy, but right now just basic necessities of life are sometimes too much. Funnily enough I'm able to work, at least most days most of the work day, but it is draining. Then again, everything else is as well. Even after my work tasks have been revamped so it no longer produces overtime and the work is, to be frank, trivially easy for me, getting better is still something that doesn't feel like a certainty. I spent 3.5 months at home, the first 2 weeks were hell, and I am better though there's still quite a mountain to climb. Barely get any woodworking done. So where you are right now, to me it sounds positive. Keep on fighting man! (in the way that's not an actual struggle but a steady sustainable growth as not to burn out again and remember to be forgiving to yourself. Healing from burnout is a slow process and being cruel and abusive to yourself is the opposite of productive. You're just a man after all. A very talented, handsome man, no homo

I really like the description of your inner-personal process as it relates to your work and of course the jokes are great!
Today I’m starting work on a sculpture using a thin 1.5 meter long slab of black walnut that has three burls on one side. It will be displayed upright and detailed on both sides. I’m starting with hollowing out the burls into bowel shaped depressions. The natural side with the burls will have gem stones and sterling silver inlay. You
Inspired me to initiate this today, thank you!! 🎉

Jonas, it's refreshing to hear your trial and tribulations during your carvings. It's as if you heard me during mine. Learning as you go and gaining knowledge off each project. Just something I do with cracked areas I come across. I apply some of the finishing oil in that area to keep it from disintegrating as I work in that area. Keep sending out your beautiful work.

Great video. Interesting side note, on my hundred acre farm (east coast USA), we have many walnut trees. They drop green husks all over the place…as in all over ack. I used to have my kids collect some so we could dry and eat the nuts inside. They’d get very stained hands lol. So many we then started burning them. The old timer I got the place from even turned one tree into a sap collector for making syrup (which haven’t tried doing). Every now and then, a big spring wind knocks one down and I’ll cut it up and put it in a drying barn for firewood. Yup. : ) most spectacular colors! Maroons and purples. Very very colorful. Found a local wood working group and I let em haul away pieces. Every time I’d chop a round for fire wood I kept going man, this looks so beautiful it needs a better life than my fireplaces.

Great video and beautiful sculpture! Your commentary is so relatable…
I am really looking forward to your next sculpture. I completed a sculpture of a favorite pet house cat, and I was in the process of sculpting a Jaguar.
I procured a 6 x 6 x 3 turning block of “Lati” wood for this piece. I learned a hard but valuable lesson about dimensions and scale. Bottom line… 6 x 6 x 6 would have been the minimum size of wood stock I needed to start with.
My sketch (a beautiful snarling Jaguar looking right at me) was pretty good. The depth I was able to reflect in the sketch required more wood stock than the 3” dimension could render. So…. I spent way too much time trying to scale down the sculpture.
I am not talented, experienced, or skilled enough to make wholesale corrections. I stopped and I am moving on.
    Keep moving forward…

Thank you so much for brining us another amazing sculpture! Honestly, I think it’s my favorite of the whole series so far, but I’m definitely looking forward to seeing the next one. As for the design videos, I'd really like seeing something like that, but it’s up to you.

Congratulations. For a guy with depression you're doing great. I love art also, but I can't find joy in anything right now.
I'm really happy for you. All i can think about is dying. S ok I am so happy that you're not there. I will live thru you in spirit.
Thanks for making the world better with every piece of art you make.
    😊
