I'm fascinated by so many hobbies, and realize being a master of all is not possible, but Dreams is so amazing for giving us these tools. I'd love to dabble more in music creation in Dreams and this tutorial, and your other tutorials, will help me immensely. Thank you for the video! I'm really surprised you don't have tons more subscribers! Subbed, btw. Looking forward to more!
I feel the same way about Dreams! The breadth of the tools is incredibly powerful. I'm glad you found this video helpful, and thanks for the kind words!
Vince, thank you for the freshness in your tutorials, I really found the melody really enjoyable and it made me want to experiment with the music tools again! Keep it up man!
You're so pro man. Anyone who's new to dreams tutorials knows how golden these tips videos are. When I make my own game, your name's getting a fat shoutout. Amazing finds man.
@@VinceKully Yeah dude! I haven't messed around with the music side of Dreams yet, but it looks kinda like the layout for Reason and Cubase. I'm sure everyone's keen for more prog for their platformers. Polyrythms AHOY! Thanks for the vid! Subbin now
I’ve not yet played Dreams but I’ve bought it & I can’t wait to make music, characters & games on this ... game. I know it is a lot of ‘admin’ but I love making sh**. Your video has completely humbled me though as there is a lot of depth, I can see. I didn’t even understand that there were microchips involved 😂. Geez Louise.
@@VinceKully thanks! I'm looking forward to it! Could you do me a favor and either add how to map a custom made music phrase to the buttons, or direct me to one of your videos that may already cover this? I saw a glimpse of it in this video but you didnt go into detail on that little step becaise it really wasnt the main point of this video and id really like to know how you did that. Thanks!
@@VinceKully it was near the part right before you played the entire peice. If I remember correctly it was right when you did the drum part. I tried to find the timeline setting where it shows the buttons you can map to like the media molecule phrase samples but cant get it to show up like that
Thx. Did not know i could change the volume of notes like that. Is there any way to fade sections that aren't at the beginning or end of a clip without having to Keyframe? And you did a thing from your calc to counter wire that auto positioned it. What was that?
Yeah you can fade in clips with the little fade-in markers on anything on a timeline. Oh haha I added nodes to the wire, but the video editing just made it look like it did it automatically.
@@VinceKully Lol. Was really hoping there was some shortcut... And i was wondering, if there's a note or chord in the middle to fade in or out, but don't want to fade the beginning or end of the clip? Thx so much!
@@souljang If you don't want to fade the beginning or the end of a clip, but something in the middle, then a keyframe is probably easiest. You could also use an effect field either on the timeline or within the instrument as well. Lots of options!
Any tips for the sound lag and (!) Sign when there is a lot of instruments. I have reduced the tails as much as I can without compromising the quality. Any other solutions would be amazing? You can maybe get an idea of what I mean on one or two of my videos, I dunno
I’m not sure exactly what you mean by sound lag, but I know sometimes the first note from an instrument may be incorrect. I’ve seen people put a copy of an instrument recording at the beginning, but muted, which fixes that sort of problem. What’s the warning you’re getting?
@@VinceKully it's a little exclamation point in a red triangle at the bottom left. The music begins crackling or some instruments start like zoning out. It's probably just a case of too much going on but I'm an orchestral man and would just love to keep as much of it as I can
Right, if you highlight the exclamation mark, it’ll telll you what the actual problem is. It’s possible that it’s too many instruments at once for your PS4 to handle. Good news is that the ps5 seems to relieve a ton of limitations.
@@VinceKully That's what I'm thinking to be honest. It's a shame because I have a great thing going on the song and the engine isn't handling it well any more haha.
Well done... I have SO MANY audio tutorials. A long time ago I made tutorials for all audio settings and gadgets and stuff. So much work XD You can actually select slices like normal, hold X and drag, or double-X to select all :D A delay has a delay channel. If you put the corresponding delay channel onto the timeline, it'll use that timeline's temp :D You can adjust how many beats are in a bar in the timeline's settings. This also affects the metronome. The solution you talk about is good for combining different signatures in the same timeline though--Bogdan uses it all the time. He loves a bit of 5/4 in his 4/4 ;P An alternative to keyframing things is using an effect field in the timeline; it will affect everything in that column. So you can do the same thing but with a single effect field, kinda :D I was so confused by that logic at first XD Another way would be to use a single counter into a timeline, with keyframes and blending. #TimelineAllTheThings
Oo I knew there *HAD* to be a way to get the delay to work with the timeline's tempo. Thanks for that! And what if you want the delay to take on a different subdivision than the quarter note? Like tripets for example
@@VinceKully You can adjust the speed of the delay and a whole load of settings in the delay channel gadget. So, if it's snapping to the beat, you can still adjust the timing; it'll just snap that timing to the beat also. So, half-beat, etc.
@@souljang If you try to add delay into an instrument, you'll notice that there are 4 channels: A, B, C, and D. If you go into the sound gadgets, there is a delay channel gadget.
