Can we have the landlord for the place she just left. I’m moving top of next year. I’m definitely following you brother..
She was hesitant about those CONS at first. Then she got rolling.😆 Most of her cons are just adjustments & previously discussed on this channel, so no surprises there. I knew what Merida was going to look like from those early “walking with Cartess” videos. Showed me everything to expect. Looking for to my new trip. This was a great interview. 👍🏾
😂😂😂😂😂 Once she started, they kept coming 😂😂😂😂😂
Yeah. I didn't finish the video, but I didn't hear anything alarming (to me). It's good that Cortez posted this though. I'm sure there are lots of people who think like her who should just take a vacation in Merida and keep it moving.
Gotta be careful in these 3rd world countries. Never know whos watching. I was watching an interview with an American Black woman last night and she was afraid for her life kept checking the doors n windows due to death threats. All she did was talk about the Ghanian year of the return being a scam and how Black Americans spent 2 billion dollars and all Africans did was beg for more treated her like whites making her pay gringo prices and not really seeing her as an African but a rich American even though she just getting by. Gotta be careful on these youtubian streets
Your own trucking company you go girl! Praise God 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾!
She's a 'BOSS' jejeje
I’m in the process of moving to Mexico and physical aesthetics were actually top of my list, so I knew right away Merida would not do it for me, and after visiting San Miguel de Allende, it was an easy decision. San Miguel checks every box for me and I’m thankful to be in the position to afford to live there comfortably bcuz its biggest con is that it’s not cheap.
Yes. I hear the costs are high, and a very large American (US) population there,
Is it great expensive????
I LOVE San Miguel, but it's too far from the beach for me.
She should make a channel! I’d definitely tune in. She has a great presence.
Wonderful London interview. My husband does not like the food either. So he definitely tries to make his own dishes. Bugs are real. Heat and humidity in May is tough. But there is safety in Merida and the people are nice.
Thanks for watching!
I was only there a few days but I didn't have any food that impressed me. (To be honest, I wasn't impressed in CDMX either.) Maybe I only like Tex-Mex? lol
Every region has its own gastronomy.
May I ask is it the food or seasoning? I’m sure they have fish, salmon, chicken, beef, pork etc or is it extremely different. What about eggs, bacon, sausage, Maduras, etc?
@@Mannequin6ix Yucatecan cuisine is influenced by certain historical influences. They are extremely traditional. The beans are very plain. They are black beans that are either just cooked a la olla in the pot, or if they are refried it is with pork fat and some salt and that is it. Simplistic. A lot of pork dishes. Due to Spanish traditions of making sure you are neither a Muslim nor a Jewish person who is avoiding RC conversion. They do not season many foods. Very plain. The chile is very hot. Habañero. They either do it very well or it isn't good. A lot of Holland Dutch cheese is due to trade with the Netherlands. Very lactose intolerant but consuming many dairy products that are lactose-free processed. Traditional foods tend to be plain in seasoning. That is a big problem for people who like well-seasoned foods.
Enjoyed this exchange. Interview was lively and warm. I think London’s spirit was contagious and I believe she grew in so many ways. Love the fact that she’s her own boss. She will do well wherever she lands.
Thank u for watching. She’s a wonderful person and there was NEVER a dull moment when she was around. I especially enjoyed trying to get her to dine at one my ‘hole in the wall’ joints; but she never folded 😅
Really good to hear from someone who found they were not totally satisfied

Loved this interview, young lady has such a contagious-joy and personality, love her faith and tenacity … I agree with you … I think she will be back 😂
This video was shot about 2 1/2 months ago. Spoke with her 2 days ago (she's coming back very soon)

Great interview. It looks like she's confirming that I need to go to Medita.
What do u mean BigElvis? I should Open up some sort of an American food Dinerstyle space for all the newcomers...

I was so glad to find someone that is particular like me, I can definitely understand where she is coming from. Thanks for being so honest.
That's awesome! Congratulations on your trucking business. 36:56

🤣🤣🤣 The stains in the bed!! I can live with the bugs, but I draw the line at stains in the bed!!😂
🤣🤣🤣
Since she has residency I think she should visit other parts of Mexico. The country is so vast and everywhere has something different. I think she'd like a place like San Miguel de Allende.
❤️❤️❤️
Thanks for sharing wonderfuls! This wonderful and hardworking business woman deserves the best in any and everything she desires. I wish you and your son all the best sweetheart.

Good interview. It’s funny you mention Thailand its on list too.
Love this interview!! So transparent and real. My favorite all things Merida channel!!
This interview was extremely entertaining! Miss London is so charming, and the information was interesting and useful. Thank you,
Glad you enjoyed it!
I am appreciative of the objective interviewing you’re showcasing on your channel regarding the Merida experience for US born individuals looking to you all there for insights. I enjoy the content of the channel, Tia Niki sent me here. Peace and prosperity and health
I appreciate you watching. Thank u.
@@MoveAbroadandThrive thank you for all that you do! I wish you continued prosperity and successes. I’ll be linking up with you soon for the consult because I’m focusing back on making my way to Merida. I started looking into it last year but got distracted with life back here in NYC. I had reached out to some of the black in Merida and Tia Niki and we talk but I plan to talk with Niki more too. I’m still working age and not retirement ready so one of my main things to workout is income while I’m there. If I could work my current career remotely from Merida maaaaan I’d have it made 😆 but that may not materialize or it may, I’m not sure either way. Anywho ill be in touch soon for a consult Cortess. So many ants it look 👀 like the floor was moving 🤣🤣🤣! 😂😂😂I love it she is so funny 😆 and the scissors 😮 to cut your toe nails got me! I’ll get my pedicure in the States or you can give me the name of your Podiatrist!
😂😂😂😂😂
I also had an ant 🐜 problem twice. I had a severe infestation. It took 6 month both times to kill them all. I used rice both times. That's right! I poured rice on top of each ant hill. When I noticed that they carried all of the rice away. I would pour more on top. I probably used about 4 bags of rice over the 6 months. It probably took 6 months because I poured it directly from the bag. I probably should have grinned it. I had the leaf cutting ants. They destroyed my trees and plants over several years. Remember that back in the day our grandmother's used grits. Rice and grits are the same thing.
@@lakeshavallejo7889 What does the rice do? FIrst time I heard of this? Please share
Appreciate the honest dialogue!
I loved the interview. It was so funny when London, was imitating Cartess. ♥
that lady keep me laughing all the time .
Great information. I think she summed it up. Know your WHY and be open...because the bottom line Merida has it cons, but it is safe.
Exactly!
It's interesting how she said that if you're an Introvert then it may be ok for you to live there, meanwhile, I was watching some Mexican RUclipsrs who were pointing out how in those "nicer neighborhoods" everyone is boxed in and keeps to themselves not even knowing who their neighbors are. Meanwhile in the very authentic Mexican neighborhoods, you know everyone up and down your block and the next. Where you have a sense of community.
Thanks for sharing your perspective. I think everyone has their preferences and a type of way that they like to do things. For me, these sounded more like preferences rather than non negotiables. I've heard that when you move abroad you have to have a very...very open mind because things are much different in other countries. I'm still very motivated to come scout out Merida and find some delicious culinary to indulge in while there. Continued success to you on your personal & professional journey!
She could try another city or state I was in Mexico City and went to Merida but Merida wasn't for me
I love that: "...show Mérida grace. " 34:36

Another great and informative interview Cartess!! 😉
Thank you so much!! And she will be back 😅
Thankyou for sharing your experience, you sound like me😂I laughed all the way through
I wish good luck to London with going back to the states, and I hope that she finds the right place for herself (there are 31 states in Mexico plus Mexico City!). Okay, Cartess, where do you find these people? I really like Malika and London seems really nice but NEITHER of them like Mexican food?? LOL! We have Mexican food typically three times a month and loved it in Morelia!
In their defense, everyone says the food here in the Yucatan is much different from the other parts of Mexico ... It took me about 18-months to like it, lol

400 peso in USD = $24 so that’s not bad at all.
I’ll never trust those nail salon places to do my nails, even here in the US. The prices are high, & people are always cutting corners and not sanitizing their instruments like they’re supposed to. That’s how a lot of fungal problems spread in the feet.
Looks like the Podiatrist is more trustworthy. Stick with him next time too 👍
Exactly.
@@MoveAbroadandThrivewill you please post the Podiatrist information as I will be in need of his services.
Did I understand right that he also polishes her toenails? Is that correct?
Because they are a loving culture family oriented. Total opposite of the states
True true
With the trash issue, I think it's because there are no regulations with regards to littering or dumping. One thing about the US is it's regulated to death. Not that people won't litter, but it's deterred when they know there will be consequences.
Good point. It's a blessing and curse at the same time that Mexico don't have as much regulation.
Could I have that podiatrist info?? Sounds amazing 🤩
Keep going forward with your travels. Travel is the foundation of being. Assata X
Is the product fumigators use safe for people & pets? Also, what do they charge per visit?
TRASH and SEWABE will make me COMPLETELY turned OFF to a place. You asked, "why"? Truth? It's their culture... I don't understand it either...it's crazy to me. I would live in a SHACK if it is CLEAN and the AREA was SPOTLESS... As opposed to a mansion in a neighborhood of filth. I can't do it chief. THIS is why S Africa and Rwanda are at the TOP of my list for moving abroad...Johannesburg and Durban S. Africa is BEAUTIFUL and MOST places, extremely CLEAN. Rwanda is VERY clean..... this is NUMBER ONE on my CHECKLIST.
*SEWAGE (typo on first sentence)
I have lived in neighborhoods with them and mattresses were everywhere.Trash everywhere.
Exactly...trash is everywhere.Old dirty mattresses everywhere in most of their neighborhoods.

It's hard to go back to the store after you eat it fresh
Girrrrrl!! Talk about the mani-pedi 18:15 !
😂😂😂😂😂
I read somewhere that some foreigners were coming to Merida for decades complaining about the food being too spicy. Fast forward, the seasonings slowly became more bland to appease the customers. 🤔👀😫🤨🙄🤦🏽♀️🙂
😋
I get you girl on the asthetics of your surroundings. My friend bought a 6 figure house in Ajijic, in an exclusive, gated community. But! It's surrounded by slum-like run down houses and trash everywhere. He has to drive thru it coming and going. The roads are horrible once inside his gated area, everyone lives behind tall cement walls and solid steel gates. Not for me.
I’d be coming from NYC, the garbage factor around the areas mentioned wouldn’t probably be as noticed by me coming from here though I’m not discounting her con or the point she’s making in the cons list, that would be normal for me 😆 especially with these big rats that NYC tends to have, they’ll even catch the subways with ya out here 😆.
The honesty is definitely appreciated and I wish the expat the best in whatever she decides to do next in her living locale choice
You got that right...were used to seeing rats catching the subways with us!! Even though I live in Staten Island I don't see many rats but when I go to the city or Brooklyn yeah you know...good luck on your journey to Mexico

Mexico City is Awesome I hear but they are about to have a serious water crisis. Don't take my word for it, Google it.
Yeah, those minerals in the water are rough on the hair. 23:53
That could be it... Mexico is like the wild wild west... I like the 'roughness' and simplicity of things. What you do on your property is no one else's business. Double-edge though. Could be an eye-sore for some. Freedom for the other.
Maria Del Carmen is her spot!!

So what would you say is your initial investment? Renting vs leasing?
Whew ... depends on cost of the rental. You can expect to pay 3 1/2 -4 months rent upfront to move into a place.
@@MoveAbroadandThrive oops I was referring to trucking 🤣
But yeah I knew the rentals there vary. I'm looking into that now but it's further off like 5 years minimum unless something comes up 🤞🏾
My baddd jejeje
Are yall in the same room? It's kinda weird. Five minutes in and it doesn't appear she ever breaks contact with the camera to look at you as if you're in person. Confusing
I don't see anything wrong with this, she seems very comfortable sharing her experience.
Yeah I thought the same thing. Why isn’t she looking at Cartess?
We in the same room ... She was kinda nervous about being on video. I been chasing her down for months to finally get on ... First time on camera, but she was absolutely excellent. I think this will easily be one of the best interviews.
Thanks for the explanation. I also wondered why the eye contact was off, but it was a fun & informative interview. I wish her the best in her adventures.
What's weird is out of all the wonderful information she provided, eye contact is what you're focusing on. Now that's confusing. She's sharing her experience as a courtesy and doesn't need to perform for the camera. Relax. 😂😏🙄
I haven't been to the Yucatan in 20ish years, but I remember not digging the food. I love cilantro, so that wasn't it. It was the weird sulfur smell of the eggs, and that they put peas and sweet potato in damned near everything. Lol. I loved Mérida though. I had a great time there.
I did love the candied peanut bar things you can get at a lot of markets. And elotes, marquesitas.... and even if I didn't like the eggs, the chicken in Mexico is so incredible, I didn't eat Canadian chicken again until about 4 years ago, cause it just isn't the same.
Once I got to Oaxaca though... now that is some *good food*. Like, food in Oaxaca is a little too good. 😂
I love those peanut brittle bars you're talking about. My favorite!

Do you know it used to be like that in some cities in the US? People used to throw human excrement out of the windows. Really, even today, some US cities have major litter problems.
Wow
If the trash is in your neighborhood do something about it pick it up encourage neighbors to pick up, i live on the states and on the country roads people throw trash but i have alway the close to where i have lived clean
It’s not just a few pieces of paper or trash … And you run the risk of injurying yourself with no recourse. Not worth the risk AND it’s someone’s property and u can end up in jail like I did when I accidentally walked onto someone’s property. It’s not as simple as ‘just picking it up yourself’
Look into Morelia

Too much bureaucracy in Mexico. That's why it takes so long for them to get anything done. I didn't think I'd ever be able to leave Mexico. Right up till my plane was boarding, they were over there strip searching me, made me go to immigration, etc. it was ridiculous. I'm a female solo older woman, and they had all these young people sitting there they didn't pick them. It was freaking ridiculous. I like Merida, but very hot and very dirty. I didn't like the way they treated me. At my hotel when I was leaving, the head guy there told me I should tip everybody from the maids all the way down to the pool guy. I did tip them, and when I tipped him he didn't even say thank you. I gave him $20 and he really didn't help me with anything.I guess it wasn't enough. I really did love my trip to Merida, not so sure about moving there because it's really not very cheap.
For real, I can't find a dietician here in the states that takes insurance. So expensive to get help with diet and possible metabolic issues. Cortisol levels are important to watch.

Hey young lady ... great ideas. I know some people talk about doing it and some have started, but they never seem to get the on-going support to keep it going. People come and go and before you know it, the person who started it disappears. I hope you can make it work cause it's a good idea.

I think she has some time to live a life build up her savings. Not having to be dependent on a disability chk or a chk from the govt. or state that's not a retirement chk to make ends meet in America. She does not have to live in poverty in her land. As she builds a nest egg for her family the door is still open to resume wanting to live in her paradise syndrome as she can afford it. No gigs needed. Just preparing herself financially to live else where!
Most retirees that I know in Merida are completely self sufficient they're both black and white live very well. Drive luxury cars (new) have boats/ yachts.. My GMA use to say "failing to prepare is preparing to fail.
If the dollar fails (it won't), but for argument ya sake it totally tanks now what? That disability check is worthless income from gigs have very little value can't buy food grow food pay the bills.:.? Ppl need to exist. Reality sure America is a struggle but the federal welfare the state welfare is not a plan! Why do many ppl running to Mex with the govt check can go farther!
Cleanliness is a problem, it can cause sickness. Clean water, clean land and clean air are the three requirements. If you can't drink the water it can be a huge problem. When you need to hit the head, you shouldn't have a problem. If you're required to pay $$ at a public restroom, the unit should be self sanitizing with a bidet and come with toilet paper. Montezuma's revenge is real and it's a huge problem, disease can be prevented just like in the states. To me cleanliness is next to godliness; I'm not OCD, but cleanliness shows the society cares about each others health. Mexico needs to take society's health as a real concern, the gov't is the first level of fending off disease.
Lol stove 😂 didn't work
