I love this . We drove from Oregon to Lake Chapala then clear down to Puerto Vallarta then to Mazlan we drove around for four weeks. We’re moving there soon, but not there. We’re moving where you guys are. We may need your help.
My husband, fur baby and I moved to Merida on October 1st. He's retired and I work from home in Logistics. We sold EVERYTHING and made the move. Living in Centro and loving it. Great interview
We love it. That defensive living horse was dead but the US wouldn't stop beating it. This is our first time traveling out of the States.....should have done it sooner. Love your videos. Keep up the great work
I work from home and am also thinking about moving to Merida. Are hurricanes and power outages an issue? I can't afford to be without power even 1 day due to my job.
Driving to Mexico starts at 14:00, but this is a great video all the way through with practical tips for the drive and everyday living. For example, none of the other videos I've watched, so far, have mentioned the little things like mattresses and water pressure.
I missed this video. I’m so glad I stumbled on it because we will be driving soon to Merida with our 2 dogs, and a small enclosed utility trailer with some of our belongings. We noticed when we went shopping for household goods in Merida they don’t have Keurig coffee makers there but they do have the Nepresso. We have both of those coffee makers we will bring with us. Robert, few years ago we bought the plastic k cups because we like our favorite coffees. And Merida has great coffee imo. This video was very helpful. Thank you Robert. Thanks again Cartess and Robert.
The way I look at it, if you move somewhere different, you have to promise yourself to do 3 years. I did that going from Michigan to Florida and ended up there for ten years. I'm ready to do this.
15 years ago my family and I drove down to Campeche (a neighboring state to Yucatan) from Omaha, Nebraska. It was me and my two kids, my husband at the time, his brother, and two of his kids all in an Extended Cab F-150. The back of our truck was full of our luggage plus clothing and gifts for our family that live in Campeche and parts for my father-in-law's truck that he could not find down there. We did not have any problems driving down, besides the occasional horrible road. I love road trips so I was in heaven! We drove down the coast and the scenery was amazing! I'm planning on moving down to Merida in a couple of years. I need to build up my business so I can run it remotely from down there and just fly back up to the United States a couple of times a year. I don't know what the used book stores are like in Merida, but on my original trip I brought a couple dozen books with me to read while I was there. I plan on doing the same when I move down for good. I will be driving down again because I will be bringing my dog with me and no way am I leaving my favorite kitchen toys in the United States LOL
Loved the interview. I do have a few questions. When crossing the border with your car loaded down, did they go through your things? Did you have to have a list of all that you packed and the monetary value? Also, when staying at the hotels, did you unload your car and bring everything inside? And the final questions..Do you recall how much you spent in tolls once you hit Mexico? Which border did you use to cross into Mexico? My research is showing Laredo-Colombia border as the safest.
Great interview and Robert is very nice; you know what? Im Mexican and I my parents always teached me about be respectful about other peoples time; so be ALWAYS in time for a meeting ot whatever; actually be there at least 5 minutes before the hour; I dont know what happened in the last years,
This video is highly relatable and offers pertinent information to those seriously inquiring about moving there. Thanks for sharing! We are definitely looking That way

I'm retired and will be in Merida this weekend to complete my temporary residency visa. Good to hear there's a Christian Church in Centro. Great content as usual. Thanks! 🙏
Where does Robert live? Is it easy to find an apartment? Need abig 1 bedroom or a 2 bedroom ground floor...also she is partially handicapped due to a stroke. Is it handicapped friendly. Thank you so much. Bob
Great interview. Would love see a follow up/part 2, with his wife for the details about driving. Import fees for you car, for example. I recently found out there is a special Apostille certification required for your US Birth Certificate to be recognized internationally, for certain transactions. More details about tolls and hotels and money. Thanks.
Thanks after this video I'm to feeling more comfortable with the plans in my head. Got to set my look/see visit soon. I want to drive from Orange County, So Cal to bring my can't leave behinds including my art, music albums/speakers; art supplies; jewelry making; clothing, shoes, etc.

Thanks for this video, I'm seriously looking at this option now. Do you think Robert would mind sharing the exact safe places his wife booked for his stays during his drive? Also would like to know if there are fees & how much to pay to cross the border and if there are fees to drive your vehicle in Merida?
@@tasharhodes8969 I've never heard or seen anything about the cartels at the borders. But it's hotter and more humid in Merida than Florida and Texas. And it's hot most of the year. So if you hate the heat like I do don't move there and find a cooler area in MX. But if you plan on staying inside in air conditioning most of the time then Merida is truly the safest and greatest city in all of MX. As for real estate..just use google and type in "Merida Yucatan real estate" or something similar. Good luck!
When I was living in south Florida, I got to where I could keep my air conditioning thermostat set at 79 degrees, and it felt plenty comfortable along with a few fans blowing. Just to get the humidity out of the air is the biggest thing as far as comfort. Big cyclist here.... I rode in the heat of south Florida and hope to do the same thing in Merida.

you guys make me so excited to move there. I fell in love with it just doing the research. I fell even more in love with it when i visited last April. And all your videos and other youtuber videos I watch make me sooo anxious to get there. Should be there in about March, 2022.
