Very unfortunate seeing the servo fail like that. Will be talking it over with the guys at Furitek to see what can be done about that 🤔. As for tire rubs, the body is designed to be fully adjustable. It can be mounted as far forward or back as you like. It being heavier than a lexan body does give it the benefit of being able to adjust weight distribution of the vehicle depending where you instal it. Style, well, we always have to walk a fine line with bodies that resemble too much the real thing as we need to contend with licensing and also wanting to have something that is immediately distinguishable from everyone else's designs. When you see a Furitek vehicle you know it is Furitek. Too many companies just copy paste a design. Thats not to say we always get it right 😅. The larger lights up front were a design made to house the color changing bulbs which is a specific detail we wanted to highlight. Articulation can be increased by changing the shock location. We set the vehicle at its highest point from the factory as we expect most people to slap larger tires anyway so a droop setup from the factory wouldn't like those huge tires. But, it can all be accommodated with all those body and shock mounting locations, you just need to tinker with it ☺️. Great review though 👍. Props to you for hanging in there till the end! 😅
Definitely value in it. But leaving so much room for improvement is a bit of a downfall. Good Servo, tires/inserts, and messing with the knuckles will run up the bill considerably. Final opinion, someone in R&D didn't play with it enough 😂. Awesome video Adam.
Thanks for the dedication to getting the video done! Glad I`m not the only one that killed their Cayman servo almost immediately. My Cayman has been apart more than it has ran. What I hate the most about it is the portal axles. They are no where near as precise as worm drive straight axles. Now that I have gotten my hands on some Mofo X15s and some Meus billet axles, I`ll likely never buy portals again. The current portals are too high geared and the lash is embarrassing. The overdrive options are lacking as well. With the extra width of the billet axels I can run larger tires and overcome the little bit of extra clearance portals have. Torque roll is vastly better with the worm drive axels as well. For all their faults the worm drive axles are just better at this scale. The nail in the coffin is the styling of the new Cayman, wow is it goofy looking! My dream RTR would have a Meus chassis and Furitek electronics.
It’s got a face for radio , but it wasn’t made to be pretty . Price sounds bad at first until you realize it costs more to buy a competitor and order a ton of upgrades to get it close to this thing. Bad servo , that’s an easy fix, most people swap out tires anyway. Not sure I could get used to a jumpy motor like that , but who knows. Great video man 👍
That's alot of dough for the servo to go out so fast. I have the Furitek Cayman 6x6. My Son and Daughter bought it for me. I had to upgrade the plastic ring & pinions immediately. I upgraded the servo Immediately also, but at my choice, no failure there. I've noticed the higher gearing with that SCX24-based transmission. Also, the cheaper Furitek Lizard esc doesn't quite have the smooth transition from foc to regular drive. The Python Pro has a higher speed on its FOC too. So my next purchase for my 6x6 with be a Python Pro, I have one in my Fury Wagon and it's definitely worth it.
I am sorry, but for almost $400 for a 1/24 scale it should not have any of the issues you spoke of. Furitek does have great electronics, but honestly that does not forgive a servo dying within 2 runs. Then you get to the steering angle! That is inexcusable imo for such a premium comp truck as they tout this one to be. I think personally, that this was a big miss for Furitek at the price point they have it at. A good servo upgrade would be very cheap for them and improve the geometry of that steering angle. Furitek must have hired the fail designers that JC Concepts didn’t want to hire, NONE of their design looks good to me.
As a newbie I’d love to see what you’d choose to upgrade on this and make it as close to a 10/10 with aftermarket bits. I’m ready to pull the trigger on a 1/24 and upgrade as much as possible but don’t want to buy the wrong stuff and the hassle of uninstalling and returning, etc. Fantastic channel, thank you! Happy new year.
Getting one of these with 1 " upgrade" i did to my other Cayman pro, it's going to be 4x4x4... Wheels/tires will be no problem, got plenty of those to change around and see what works best... Shame the servo gave up , not used to that with Furitek... Keep up the good work thou...
Another beast...🥰 Don't you think there is a lack of flex, not only on the bench, but also on the rocks ? All link balls free enough ? Something else ? Thank you for this review. The weather is also getting cold, here in France.🥶
I thought the same, seen that also in another video. I think at this point manufacturers should take more time, let them test by many people and release it when its really RTR not another "project" to tinker with.
The limited flex is because shocks are at their highest point from the factory, all the other shock mount locations increase articulation gradually as you move back 👍.
I like this setup.. Always like your videos on testing out this new crawlers. You got me involved on crawlers sense your trx4m bronco & defender. I always like to checkout and learn things. Thanks for another great video Adam.
I don’t care for the looks of it and the reason it’s so jumpy is the scx24 transmission with the fms axles to high gear ratio but makes for lots of wheel speed if u can get its driving style down and getting it tuned with app makes a awesome rig 🔥😎👍
I planned to buy one of this. But after that review i will spend the money tune my FX-118. The FX-118 already get some RCAWD Alu axles and it works fine.
Damnit that body is growing on me at first I was like really can we get something other then a jeep of any kind no creeper power wagon or truck body from the 40s 😂😅 but this half cab thing is kinda working for me ..thanks Adam love n appreciate ur honest reviews
Appreciate your videos! Point of attention-believe this new SZK has CR18P axles, not FCX24 based? Not completely sold on the rig-has some good parts, but too much that isn't "great". Afraid the front of that angled skid is going to dig in, not sure there is enough gear reduction to give good torque down low, and other less than stellar points.
Definitely no good looks here but performance is pretty nice! It’s a bit unfortunate about the servo and steering angle. Look forward to seeing what you do with this one.
Great videos. Just pre ordered this on Tuesday. Would love your opinion on wheels and tires? And maybe some treal 43mm shocks. Will this Cayman bind to the new Spektrum dx6c radio. Thanks for any advice and all the awesome how to videos. I'm also from the north east , Binghamton NY area.
Great video as always! Thank you. After watching, I have to ask if your Deadbolt with only the basic mods you showcased in an earlier video, compares as well for half the cost? Don’t get me wrong, I think there a lot of value as you noted, but I still have to ask if the Deadbolt couldn’t hold it’s own against this powerhouse?
Didn't we all watch the same video? Thanks for an honest review Cape Crawlers, I thought it was overall positive. My upgraded, more expensive ,FMS wagon is up for a challenge but not it's looks. Can't wait to receive the szx. Was the servo aSpringbok, they also have a Galaxy?
Received the SZX a few days ago and servo burned out in 15min, so this experience is not an isolated incident. :-( Thanks to this video, I was prepared with an upgrade. The rest of this vehicles performance is terrific.
I like the body. The wheelbase doesn't match tho. If the rear gets extended 12 to 14mm I think it would look much more balanced. But I don't know if that would negatively affect performance.
The body is fully adjustable. It has holes to move it back or forward as you like. It comes fully forward from the factory to get that 57/43 weight distribution but I prefer it centered.
I think they are CR18P, Furitek it’s working now with Hobby Plus, unfortunately. Me personally, I have six Cayman’s ( Standatd, Pro & 6x6) & one Gold Digger. Those are the RTR I have from Furitek, builds from them like 40. Of course none of the RTR’s have the Furi servo and most of them I upgraded the axle housings with Treal or RCAWD. But this new Cayman with CR18P and all in one Lizard Pro, still using plastic wheels and $5 servo is not calling me at all. I asked Tony Furitek (by the way very nice dude) why CR18P but he never replied to me. I just wait for the parts are available and I build my own like I always do. Well chassis , skid plate and links.
Is the REEFS servo a direct fit or does it need a special mount? Thanks in advance. I’m thinking of ordering the Pro V2 and want to order a much better servo at the same time.
furitek missed out on some great marketing by not sending you one. super surprised. Still think the hp evo pro brushless is better. thanks for the great, objective content!
Cool for a newbie but for 400 im gonna pick and choose the best stuff from different sellers and unfortunately furitek is not one of them i cant get behind the pricing but im team brushed sooo 😮😅😊
You mentioned the motor twitch. Turn radius. Servo. Seems stuff ported over from other makers of fms and hp. Maybe kits for furitek would be best. Even the way to switch lights is odd. Not to mention how the links connect to skid where it isn't smooth. But no torque steer? Did you check for that on an incline? I enjoy your videos and my opinion has no relevance to my disappointment of the rig. This is why you do good by showing pros and cons for us.
Unboxed mine today and it crawled fine for 5/10 min and then randomly started beeping I reset to factory updated firmware never abused unplugged let it sit for a min . The servo turns the lights work but no forward or backward and motor not even turning I can’t figure it out and I emailed them but who knows if I’ll even get a reply
Mine came in with completely different portals (black ones) and not the brass that are narrower than the ones on yours. I have a good deal of slop in the steering and the driveline. They put the wrong wheels on it with hexes that are too long for any wheels, with only few threads exposed, so they tightened them so much it cut into the wheel and then they glued them to the hexes. So you cannot remove them at all without cutting the wheels off. What furitek sends people that aren’t RUclipsrs are products with different parts and poor build quality. I’ve purchased a few of the newer furitek products and multiple different parts for them and they all have had bad manufacturing issues right out the box. Basically you’re getting temu/ali express/flea market build quality. Do not buy unless you can physically inspect their vehicles or products.
Got mine a little over a week ago and same issues. Bad esc, portals are junk and slipping, broken body and more. Not getting answers at the moment from furitek but buyers be warned. Hope they get back with me on and exchange or complete refund. What I got was unacceptable.
Looks only a mother could love and oh, the price!!! But it's so good it's boring. I prefer to build and not buy but I get what Furitek is trying to do here. To me, it takes a bit of fun away from building my own. Great performer though and I'm sure it would be cheaper to buy than build one up.

I have the evo pro bl version and I'd buy 2 of them before I'd buy 1 of these. Bad thing is, after the kinks get worked out the v2 model will be even more expensive.
And that should not happen with a RTR performance rig at this time. I think they rush putting stuff out thats not ready for anything. Didn't even waste the time to watch the whole video, just skipped through.
