Hey Matt, I have been looking forward to you comparing these 2 furitek offerings. Thanks for all you do for this community. You are my go to channel to get an honest take on rigs and parts. I'm not loaded so appreciate not carelessly spending money. Thanks! -Joe from MO
Really appreciate that! Glad the videos help save some cash now and then. It’s the main reason I started the channel. Everyone in this hobby deserves to have the best for their hard earned money! Hope I never steer ya wrong 🤘
Nice work. Appreciate the efforts put into these comparisons.
Really appreciate that! Lots of work in them for sure lol. Well worth it though if it helps someone make up their mind on how to spend their money. Appreciate ya watching and commenting 🙏
@@2fmrc Keep it up! It’s a lot of work and time. We really appreciate the honesty in your comparison videos.
Can you imagine if axial could release an scx24 kitted out like this at a similar price?
Of course if it said axial on it it would be $350 or 400 or something haha
What an age to live in for rtr's!
Been waiting on this
This is a killer comparison video you did really good on it bro
Really appreciate that 🤘
Awesome Matt, Yep I’m here watching
Really nice video comparing these 2, Matt. That FX looks interesting, but to be honest, I’ve been spending most of my free time with the ProMoto bike. Lol. Haven’t run my crawler for a month. A little flying, and promoto is my routine of late. Really liked the FX from your first video, and thought about it. But I have to complete a competition course with my highly modified Class 1 RGT jeep, before I do any other crawler stuff. Tall order, but have come close! Lol. Keep up the great videos. Love your obstacles, btw.
Really appreciate that. I totally get the obsession with the Promoto. The thing is great! Best Rc release in years imo
I've turned down the punch on the cayman app from punch 2 to punch 1 ,and then pulled down the curve ,the first 85% of the curve and only have the last 15/% of the curve normal.
The result is that it still has the speed but the trigger responds all the way through with smoothness and no jerks anywhere
It is realistic movement from go to woe
Appreciate the comparison video! Having a Cayman, really don't love the jumpiness since the gearing is fairly high overall, looking forward to more control in the FX118.
Really liking what Furitek and HobbyPlus are able to offer in the value of the FX118, $200 for a brushless RTR is fantastic. Once we get some over/under drive gears and some more aftermarket support we should have a real game changer!
Looking at getting a new rtr if you had to go with the cayman pro or crp18 pro. Which would you go with?
I don't understand that hate on the power wagon body. I like it.
where can i get od gears for the cayman? thanks i cant seem to find them anywhere
These 2 seem pretty awesome! On a few of your videos you seemed pretty excited about the FCX axles with the SCX trans, thought the Cayman would be perfect for you. I'd like to see a break down of some of your favorites right now that you own. Keep seeing some fun cars on your wheel/tire videos. And most importantly, where's the cat, my girls love seeing the cat on the course lol!
Haha! I think they were out playing in the barn. I’ll try better to get some cats in the next vid for them. I do still run the fcx axles with the scx transmission in most everything. It just takes a bit to get used to. I’ll have to try doing a collection run down at some point. Then maybe highlight a few in their own vids.
I just bought a Fury FX-118. I can't find the voltage max on the stock outrunner system.
Can you run 3s?
I’ve ran 3s in mine since I got it but a few people did smoke the new venom motor with 3s. Furitek said to make sure and update to a new firmware that they just released and you should be fine.
that is a huge amount of slop in the fx118. i think i counted 7 rotations before the wheels moved while on the cayman was 2.
Yeah it’s insane! It’s not terrible when crawling but just watching it makes you cringe a bit 😆
@@2fmrcdo you think a different transmission would help it out? Maybe the all metal 2 speeds or an scx24 tranny?
Have the same problem with the fcx24 and while I can drive round it I would really like tighter control.
Great video as always mate.
and what inserts are you running in them tires?
My XYZ Brass portals have that drivetrain slack and it's a nightmare out on the rocks. They sent new portal gears I'll see if it fixes the issue.
FX118 - THE test ! 😊 I'm also waiting for mine to arrive.
I agree : how an ugly body (FX118) ! A single front cab is better, like your Cayman has. Same thing on my (future) FX118.
1--So, you didn't find any lower place, for the battery ? Must admit It performs very well as it is.
2--Transmission slack : 😭😩 Any idea to solve that ?
Cayman vs FX118 : my bank said me the FX118 wins the battle. 😇
I can definitely make a slider or something to move the battery. Just haven’t yet. Not sure on the slack in the transmission. It needs help though lol
Some slack is a good thing. With these powerful brushless systems, it protects the gears more importantly it helps eliminate jerkiness and twitching coming off the throttle.
alrdy have K5 and scx C-10 w/ a few mods on each and very pleased.. looking into getting the Fury / FMS Smasher v2 (modding it w/ the lock diff and tires for crawling) / or Traxxas High Trail..watched videos until Im almost blind.. any suggestions ? Im very new to the hobby ,enjoying it very well..also a hats off to your vids..!
i wonder how good is venom as now it's just a black box
also i'm not familiar with cr18p platform, are there enough upgrade parts available? I've spent 2 months ordering od protal gears for fcx24 and china guys keep sending me regular 14/21 teeth, pissing me off as i can't do anything about it and can't get the od gears ffs
btw you get mini komodo with caymans now, afaik
and this crazy slack, i have the same in fcx24, annoying as hell
CR18P does not have any over/underdrive gears available yet-but Furitek has said with the release of the FX118 they will have over and under drive portal gears, along with other upgrade parts, available shortly.
I'm with you, haven't meet anyone with a CR18 yet. Why would they not just go with an FCX24 axle they're already familiar with from the Cayman and push the market volume so high on after market parts that manufacturers can make them as low as they do SCX24 parts?
Awesome review Matt! I'd be curious how a Furitek upgraded CR-18P compares to the FX118, although at current pricing, I know the FX118 is a way better deal.
I have the Cayman but not the FX18. I have no 1/18 at all. Not that the difference is drastic, just that they are different. I set the Cayman up using the RadioLink settings as soon as I got it because of trim and dual rates and did throttle curve etc. at that time so I never seen the jumpiness. I also got shocks for it before I even got it as well as wheels and tires. I would not hesitate to buy something significantly better, but I'm not sure this is that and I would like my minis all the same scale. I did look at this though when shopping for something new but ended up getting a 1/10 Phoenixx straight axle kit. I also have the Atlas 4x4 (Fusion 1200) and an Ecto Black (Fusion Pro 3200).
The fx would be my choice
Nice comparison! Cool to get a closer look at the fury wagon chassis. Weird though, I have both the cayman 4x4 and 6x6 and a few friends with them and we all had the larger mini Komodo come in our trucks not the micro you have. Which I think is way better. I have a micro Komodo in my AX24.
Thanks for the comparison! I pre-ordered the FX118 when it was released. Looks like the cayman has the same drivetrain quirkiness that my Gold Digger has. Glitchy at low throttle
Awesome thanks for doing this. I have the cayman and really don't like it as much as I thought, so little articulation. I even cut the frame a bit because front links would bottom out on the frame. Glad you pointed out the slop in the fx118, I was sold on that until now. Just gotta build from scratch I guess
I think the batrazzi shocks would be a great upgrade for the cayman
Yeah I think so!
Thanks dude appreciate you putting them side by side. Still wanna see it kick the trx4m and fcx ass but in this video you can tell no comparison
Did you tune your fx118 with the Bluetooth, cause I've seen a video where they said do not run it if you haven't tuned it
what would you change to fix the cayman gearing ? thanks for the video , love your channel.
If I could get some underdrive gears for the axles that would definitely help I’d say.
A motor reminds me a lot of the little guy racing parts motor
Man I still have that motor in the box. I really need to try it out!
I was definitely disappointed that I couldn't do a direct body swap to the rock van.
Shouldn’t be too hard to mount up but yeah the mounts don’t line up directly
@@2fmrc I've tried, it would be easier to swap electronics, the rock van is longer in the rear and a longer frame too
Thanks for the comparison! Pre-ordered my fx118 😊
I am quite shocked though by the slop in the drivetrain. Is it possible to keep control on tricky parts where you need to go forwards and rearwards a few times to get through? It would be frustrating if it starts rolling because of the slop
No it never caused me any issues as far as rolling. You really don’t notice it as much when crawling. Just when watching how many times that motor turns before it moves lol
@@2fmrc Glad to hear that 😊 Thanks!
Would be great if the CR18P Hunter body set would fit. Love the looks on that little Unimog
I finally put a komodo motor in my cayman. Smoothes it out nicely.
Thanks for the comparison! My only complaint about the cayman is the shocks. I was expecting more than plastic inners and a bad anodized red cap. The cayman with xl rear links is capable of things my $$$ scx24 gladiator build is not. I have a fury wagon on my to get list.
Yeah the shocks are rough. Very capable little truck though for sure!
Thanks so much for the comparison, both seem like great trucks but I’m happy with my cayman still, maybe would pick up this truck up eventually but not in a rush after seeing the difference in performance. I don’t mind the little bit of jumpyness in the foc with the cayman and I like how quiet it is, plus the speed of the cayman is awesome and I’m used to the touchiness of it. Thanks for all you do Matt
Yeah once you get comfortable with the cayman I kinda like the pop it has. Thanks for the watch and comment!
I agree, great comparison.I ordered a fury 18 right after seeing your first show of it.still waiting for it,but this vido just got me jacked up more, can't wait to try it out. By the way the trails in your yard look good.
Really appreciate it! I’m hoping to work on another section soon. Gonna have to make a run for some more rock though lol. Hoping to start on some bridges etc soon
Great vid. That’s exactly what I’ve been waiting for on my decision to buy what one. Thanks
Nice! Hopefully it helped a bit. Appreciate ya watching and commenting 🙏
Do you have a link to the servo horn you used on the ogrc servo? I broke the plastic one I was using and I've bought two 25t metal ones now only to find neither of them fit.
I’m actually running the plastic one that came with it. I just used a sharpie on it lol
Dude!!! When i saw this second fury tech truck come out... i was totally hoping you were going to come out with a head to head comparison!!!
I was actually going to DM you and suggest it!!!
Well like always... you didn't disappoint!!! 😉👍
Really appreciate that! Hopefully it helps a few people out with their decision.
@@2fmrc definitely helped me... I think i wanna buy both and make a hybrid of both!!! Lol
Thanks very much for the awesome video and all your content. I had the same exact 'jumpy' problem when I bought my Cayman. I fixed it by getting rid of the Micro Komodo. This was the first time I had tried it and I am not a fan, personally. Swapped it out for a Mini Komodo and it fixed the entire issue. It's a little bit slower wheel-speed than the Micro but so much more torque and control in my opinion.
Yeah I’m running that exact setup in another fcx axle/scx transmission rig and I think it’s better also.
Glad to know I wasn't the only one, haha. On a related note, do you know what length/fit driveshaft is used for the extended rear on the Cayman? The front one was just the standard FCX24 one and was easy to upgrade, but I'm not certain of what the rear one is. Maybe Gladiator? @@2fmrc
So good edit on this video!! Thanks for your effort to show us these face to face.
Really appreciate that! Hope it helps people choose and know what they are getting beforehand.
The Fx is going to be my next crawler😊
It’s a sweet truck for sure!
Thanks for the comparisons vid! I don't have either one just yet so totally appreciate the time you put in to make this!!!
Awesome! Hope it helps if you decide to pick one up. Appreciate the view and comment for sure!
@@2fmrc I liked the butterfly that landed briefly on fx 118 close to the end
Can’t wait for mine
They look similar wheelbase? 1/24 vs 1/18 or my eyes play trick on me.
Yeah there’s only 3mm difference in the length. Basically the same width. Most 1/24s are closer to 1/20 or 1/18 so the 1/18s are very close in size.
@@2fmrc Thks for reply. Can't wait for the Fury at my door step.
We need more Power Wagon bodies
No doubt!
Do they have the same axles ?
No. The cayman has fcx axles and the fury wagon has the cr18p axles.
Damm I been looking for some overdrive gear for the cayman but I haven’t found any
@@edgarmuro7790 I use these off aliexpress. They aren’t a ton of of but around 10%
Just found this amazing item on AliExpress. Check it out! $6.45 66% Off | 8Pcs Overdrive Steel Portal Axle Gear Set 20T 15T for 1/24 FMS FCX24 RC Crawler Car Upgrade Parts
a.aliexpress.com/_mqmfFlw
To get better tire compatibility ive been running custom brass hex extensions. I got a set for the cr18 that are 10mm but they will rub against the portal housing when you tighten everything. I ended up using a sander to take off about 2mm from the bottom of the extension. Now they sit in same position as the stock hex. Currently im running some kingval 1.0 beadlocks with some djcrawlers. Works very well for clearing the portals.
What is the wheel hex size on the 118
They are 7mm hex
Awesome comparison.
Really appreciate it
I have owned both of these and the Fury Wagon is better! The only problem and fix is the rear links need to be about a half inch shorter. The center, motor mount / skid plate touches a little too often. It has way more power than it needs! FUN!!! Very articulate _ tons of control! Watch it work, a piece of art!!! I had too many problems with the Cayman. Shocks, body paint, body fit, weak differentials to name some of it.
Been waiting! 👍🏻
Awesome! If you have any other questions let me know. Really appreciate it
Im here for the editing.
Sorry it’s not much lol
@@2fmrc totally all thats necessary, not the smoothest ever but for the, what, second go around. Not bad at all. Youll get better with the transitions as you go.
And it really REALLY helps to see. Removing variables and running the same paths, is the best reviewing style you could do with these trucks. Lets us see the TRUE differences in the hardware. Not just a possibly biased OPINION you may get elsewhere.
what IS your favorite chassis?
If talking a rail type build with a body…. I’d say the cheat code or Hardpark goblin xl are still really good. If looking for pure performance the slayer or Hardpark Dementor.
@2fmrc have you seen the boc or akers
@@matthewwmullan had the BOC. Akers is so similar to the hardpark I haven’t ran it. Looks sweet though.
@2fmrc awesome! That carbon exo Denali then? Also drivetime rc makes some cool looking designs over in the uk and they are making the ie concepts echo v2 in cf now too. Truly a 24 chassis Renaissance
Hello had quickly question 2fmrc code in Amainhobbys???
I don’t have any discounts for amain. Sorry! I always go to the bottom of the site and click on their discount codes to see if there is anything I can use. Maybe someday they’ll give me a discount!
Thanks bro. Appreciate!🙏
