DSL was pretty good but the Badlander has more mid-punch / faster transients to it which I look for in an amp. Very well produced vid & good taste in song writing.
I have a DSL20 and it is a really inexpensive way to get into the right territory. Secret tip though is the Marshall Origin 50 with the right pedals and a few tweaks. That's what I use on pretty much all my recordings, I find it's a more dynamic and versatile sound than the DSL but it's in the same price bracket, does need pedals to excel though.
I think the mini Silver Jubilee would get closer to Billy’s sound than the DSL. I’ve owned both and while I think they both sound great the mini jubilee is something special. If you’re going metal it might need a boost, but it has more of that Friedman sound than the DSL.
For sure. I actually prefer them blended together, to get the best of both amps. I was just curious which might sound closer to Billy, since he uses a sorta modern-modded Marshall that has a pretty unique character to it.
I know! There’s some Friedman models on the Fractal. I used to use the HBE model. I remember someone requested the Naked on the Fractal forum and their response was “What’s special about it? It’s a hot-rodded Plexi.” 🙄

Seems most people prefer the Marshall! I’ll have to see if I can dial it in a little closer to Billy’s sound.
The Badlander has more growl and definition! Cuts better in the mix
To my ears the Marshall gets you closer to Howerdel's tone.

The Marshall could give you more old school rock and metal tones by itself and the Badlander is better for modern Metal tones.
