We had a round cast iron press that would produce similar results back in the 1950's. When I was about ten I mastered it. My favorite was American cheese and Spam on loaf bread with lots of butter. I must have made several hundred of them. I still have it. Every now and then I get it out and make my favorite sandwich. They need to butter the outside of the bun.
You are right. They had these kind of machines back in the mid 1960s in Oregon when I was a kid. They were called Space burgers but they really weren't filled up as much as these were.

When a ChungChun Rice Dog take-out restaurant opened here in Toronto about four years ago, it grew to 11 locations since then, with three more just outside the city, and more on the way. I have no doubt that this UFO Burger concept (and maybe even this brand) will open a shop here in the near future, and then several more will follow. Korean Street food is legendary, but has truly only made inroads in North America in the last five to ten years. Nearly every food place here before that was a sit-down restaurant with takeout (and those are great, too).
I will say one thing about Korean street vendors their quite clean.. and Meticulous about their prep work.. Also they are really good cooks.. good job : )
I agree! If you watch the videos of the Korean cake factories, they are so impressive. Makes me want to visit just to eat there and I am a person what doesn't eat in North American restaurants because I'm fussy about food handling.

We had these in the 50s . A guy named Schmidt owed a burger place called Candies in Portland Oregon made then on a machine he invented. They were very popular for a few years. I think he called his a Sputnik burger. It was a regular burger with relish etc. sealed in a bread shell that looked like a flying saucer.
Wow, I didn't know this kind of burger existed. And now it is the South Koreans revived this old and new concept. Why didn't other fast food companies like McD and Burger King use Schmidt's Sputnik burger for their product? Maybe they forgot it existed.

I find it delighted to see the sealing of the meat with a torch, it happens that people work as well to seal everything with the iron and if it is not done uniformly, the meat could dry out. So that touch

That looks amazing. I wasn't hungry when i started watching, but now i WANT one. ANY one of those. But the crumbled beef one looks like heaven in a saucer. Of course, no audio commentary on what is being done, but you can guess a good bit of it. But the sauces, no damn clue. I am assuming a teriyaki sauce of some kind, some asian style mayo, and asian style BBQ sauces? In any case, these need to be a thing in the US, so i can have one. Not going to fly to Korea to eat one, even though i really like Korean food. I was so bummed out when the local markets stopped selling kimchi. Yeah, i know, it's not "real" kimchi, but it's as close as i could get without making my own. And making my own didn't work out so well... ^-^

I am assuming a teriyaki sauce of some kind, some asian style mayo, and asian style BBQ sauces?
In any case, these need to be a thing in the US, so i can have one. Not going to fly to Korea to eat one, even though i really like Korean food. I was so bummed out when the local markets stopped selling kimchi. Yeah, i know, it's not "real" kimchi, but it's as close as i could get without making my own. And making my own didn't work out so well... ^-^
Was curious as to what that clear jelly stuff was (relish?) but it all looks good!

We've been making these in South Africa for as long as I can remember...and I'm 50yo...here it's called a "jaffle".
