  • This gunslinger stitch pattern is a very simple way of adding some detail to a leather belt. Most of the steps included in this video are my personal preferences on how to make a gunslinger belt. There are many different ways to create the layout of the stitch work. I use templates, specifically made for the pattern, from Maker's Leather Supply. All you really need is something round that you can use to make a basic outline to follow (kitchen plate, coffee mug, bowl, etc.) You can also make many different variations of this stitching pattern to give it a more unique look! Grooving stitch lines for the thread to sink in is also my personal preference, that is not an absolute must do. You don't even need a sewing machine for this project; although, hand stitching this pattern may take quite some time. I hope this video helped give some insight on some of my thought processes going into projects and potentially helped you in your leather crafting journey. If you have any additional tips or ideas I would love to hear them! Thank you all for watching and for your continuous support!

    • @Girtyleatherco
      @Girtyleatherco  5 месяцев назад

      I just use a 1” oblong punch for the buckle and when I’m using these decorative screws I have to use a 3/16” hole punch for the post to fit and then a 5/32” for the screw holes

    Have you tried using the maker's leather supply guide to groover for the gunslinger curves (like a curved ruler) instead of freehand?

    hey man, this video was very helpful. I have a question if you dont mind, I'll try to do something similar on my own but obviously dont have a stitching machine haha, so I'll do it manually. what stitching irons would you say are going to achive that stitching distange that you're using here, 4mm, 5mm?
    Thanks!

      4mm or 3mm would be very close to my stitch length on this belt!

      Unless someone requests otherwise I space my holes 1” apart on adult belts. I put them closer together on kids belts, dog collars, and other small straps.

    How do you get the stitches on the pattern to end exactly a full stitch length at the apexes/turns? Do you mark it with a stitching chisel 1st?

    • @Girtyleatherco
      @Girtyleatherco  5 месяцев назад +1

      When I get close to the point, I just use my hand wheel on my machine to manually run the needle and adjust my project to where it needs to be. It doesn’t always come out perfect

    What size conch is do you buy for your belts? I recently got some and bought the wrong size

    • @Girtyleatherco
      @Girtyleatherco  Месяц назад +1

      I usually buy the decorative screws that I used in this video in size 3/16” but I almost always have to use a different screw than what comes with them to make it work.

      @@Girtyleatherco I appreciate the response because I recently bought some berry Conchos that looked similar to yours, and they were entirely too short to make it through my belt.

    I was always told to take the pant size of the customer and add 14” which has usually worked out to my success. I noticed you set your belt holes a little further back. What’s your method for measuring a belt?

    • @Girtyleatherco
      @Girtyleatherco  5 месяцев назад +1

      I usually make my belts with the size being the measurement from the center of the fold, where the buckle connects, to the center hole. From the center hole to the tip I usually add 7 inches unless the customer requests something different. I have heard a few ways to go about it but what you mentioned is new to me!

    No loop in the fold?

    • @Girtyleatherco
      @Girtyleatherco  5 месяцев назад

      I did end up making one for this belt, as seen in the thumbnail; however, some customers request to not have one. A keeper isn’t necessary with some types of buckles, like a trophy style for example.
