  • Here I show you how to tool a basket stamped belt. I just use a scrap piece of leather but the same principles apply when tooling a whole belt.

    • @jakeufford7356
      @jakeufford7356  3 года назад

      No i don’t, for the camouflage I switch to a 16oz maul because it’s not required to hit it as hard, only benefit to sticking with a 2lb would be the good workout

  • @MountainFisher

    I use the little plastic tool from Tandy that the swivel knife fits into to make sure I cut a straight line. I can do it without the tool, but if I make a mistake it lowers the value of the belt, plus it's faster.

    • @MountainFisher
      @MountainFisher 3 года назад

      @@mjbailey404 Kind of difficult to use a straight edge on a 40+ inch belt.

    • @mjbailey404
      @mjbailey404 3 года назад +1

      @@MountainFisher Because it tips? Put another piece of leather same/similar thickness next to it so the straight edge lies flat. Make sure you leave a bit of space for the distance between edger side and actual cutting point, you can guess or sight that part. Usually pretty quick because I can just lay another belt blank next to it, set it maybe 1/32 off on each end by eye, then run the line

      I would make it similar to a belt. So 8/9oz veg tan tooling leather on top and then line with 2/3oz Veg tan. I use grade A tooling leather from Montana leather company and then I get my tools from Barry king for stamping! Hope that helps!

    Awesome video and well explained. But hasn't someone invented or made some sort of embossing tools that are much larger / longer ie 3 or 4 inches long so that you can lay a pattern down an entire belt blank much more efficiently?
