    great test this drone was not made for long range its a cinewhoop, 95% of the time you should be flying low to the ground and objects range like this is better suited to a Air2s, I would give the example that this test was similar to 0-60 speed testing a Prius that car isnt made for speed and this drone isnt made to fly at these altitudes and distances. The tiling is caused by strong wind current catching the frame prop guards. This common for any cinewhoop flying at higher altitudes. In very strong wind it will even flip the drone over.

How to you legally do these range tests despite the VLOS rule in the US, (asking since you have said that you live in Hawaii). Do you apply for a permit of sort or do you just cross your fingers and hope for the best?

    Btw, I’m from the same island :). I’ve Always supported local families, even when they move to the mainland. Unfortunately I lost all of my drones, and some items that you’ve reviewed back in 2021. Our house was the one that had an electrical fire in the rain, 1hour into the new year. Unfortunately I’ve haven’t been able to afford another drone, and build a custom drone to help with SAR. My custom drone could mount LiDAR and IR/FLIR attachments. Since I’m a 100% disabled Veteran, I used to be a dog handler with Maui dog tags and helped with assisting in with the two missing women Moira/Scott. But a year later I moved to Vegas to become a weapons instructor at NAFB. I got to train teams on VIP/HVT extraction and protection escorting, but my injuries from deployments finally got the VA to rate me from a 0% and 7 years of fighting for my issues being all service related. 03-13 I served in the army and straight to OIF outta high school and OEF up until 2012. 7 deployments and the VA denied everything that I claimed when I got out. Thanks to many of the people who played the system and because of stolen valor. That’s what made it really difficult in hawaii to claim for anything service related. Plus the VA in hawaii in general treat you as a someone trying to cheat the system, or a drug addict trying to get pills. Nevada, Texas, and Washington were the only states that helped my claims, and all of the staff actually cared. Unfortunately in hawaii, most of the staff are disgruntled veterans or civilians that just are there to collect their pay, and like to set off new veterans who come in for help, just so they can utilize their power by having the armed guard remove you from the building. Anyways, I hope in the future I’ll be able to pick up an electric bike and a drone. Keep up with the content, you’ve always done great reviews with items that I’ve been interested in, but it’s hard to tell if those content creators are being unbiased during reviews, because of the sponsorship with certain brands. So that’s why I’m glad to have found your channel when you started out! Mahalo & Aloha.🎃

      Yeah, but with other cinewhoops you can get 5-10 minutes. How far can you fly in that time? Also, if you push regular LiPos to the very end, you may need to buy a new battery altogether. Also, no assisted landing, no RTH warning, no assisted finding, just falling out of the sky.
      Cinewhoops are not the most efficient flyers, they sacrifice range for maneuverability and toughness. You can get a Mini 3 and get 30 minutes of flight time if range is more important, but you may brake an arm and a few propellers if you land in a tree like that.

      I just got into FPV in the early fall of 2022 also. Super fun & addictive hobby for sure. I started out with the Eachine Novice 4, Long Range RTF FPV Drone Package. Bought the DJI FPV drone package a month later, with the Fly More Combo, Hard Case, & Motion controller. I really like the motion controller, it's loads of fun, & I hardly use the regular controller now. I'm considering getting the Avata, but I'm just not sure about it.

Like return to home and auto hover stuff and yes would love the motion controller so my daughter can fly! I got the fpv controller for Christmas! :) I also like the new iflight chimara7 03! I may get that! Take care man! See you around

    FYI, drones with lithium-ion batteries you can extend the battery by not charging the battery to 100% or going down to 0% going down to maybe 25 or 30% no lower than that and charging up to 80% and doing that overtime. Well add extra cycles to the battery That will extend it overtime. The health of it.

    The bad thing about letting the battery get so low like that, is that if the battery dies before you find it, then the Find My Drone doesn't work and your drone will be lost.

    • @DustinDunnill
      @DustinDunnill  Год назад +4

      The find my drone works fine when drone battery dies as seen in the video. It logs the last known GPS point of drone to the goggles. Unless the drone was to die way high in the air and fall far laterally from that point it would be difficult to find but DJI doesn't allow that to happen with the forced landing at a certain voltage 🍻

    Last night I ordered the DJI Avata Explorer Combo including a hard case, Fly more kit, RC controller and hard case. Just under $2k. Supposed to arrive tomorrow before 10PM. I've had the Mini 3 Pro and was really impressed with it's cinematic features. But it was time to start getting into FPV. The Avata seems to be both a cinematic and FPV so I think it's a great transition into FPV before I go full balls to the wall FPV!

    At 10:20 , the birds you see are thermaling, so they are in uplift, the AVATA drift naturally into the lift, like we do in paragliding, it explains why the drone needs to correct to the right... Edit: you can also see battery estimation time goes up, another sign drone is in the lift...

    too bad it doesnt show some kind of compass to tell you, which direction to point the controller towards the drone when its far out (kinda like mini 2 or mini 3 have). It would be useful as it would ensure good signal at distance. Or is there some kind of directional indicator?

    Even though Normal mode is the most efficient it is a bit of a trap.
    The max speed at N mode is not so much depended by the wind conditions and you cannot realize how strong is the wind. To test the wind I switch it to sport mode from time to time to see how much the absolute max speed is been affected so I can estimate my range with safety

    At 4:05 you say you need 10 cycles before you get max battery capacity but that's a misconception coming from older battery chemistry's. With li ion you have full capacity from cycle 1

    • @DustinDunnill
      @DustinDunnill  2 года назад +1

      I think that's what the battery industry would like us to believe but in my (and many others) experiences around 10 cycles seems to be where the optimal performance is had from Li-ion 🍻

    • @blise518B
      @blise518B 2 года назад

      @@DustinDunnill this has nothing to do with any industry. It’s just chemistry. Do you have any source that has measured this effect?
      The only possible explanation is some strange behavior of the drone controller or BMS. But most likely it’s a psychological bias.

    • @DustinDunnill
      @DustinDunnill  2 года назад

      This has everything to do with the players in the battery industry IMO. Very very seldom does something work as advertised. The hype of Li-ion having no memory effect is not completely accurate, again in my opinion and with my experiences of flying and driving thousands of rc cars and drones with the Li-ion technology. I've had so many new Li-ion batteries never used at half charge sitting for months then charge it up full with sub par performance. After a few full cycles it feels like new.
      Li-ion may be much better at having minimal memory effect but not entirely 🍻

    • @OdysseusVrakas
      @OdysseusVrakas 2 года назад

      And does this apply to lipo as well? Since that's what the avata uses or lithium ion batteries in general regardless of alt chemistry (polymer)

    • @blise518B
      @blise518B 2 года назад

      @@OdysseusVrakas all li ion chemistry’s in general. There are a lot of I have the feeling people but that’s worth nothing. If you want to prove anything you need controlled tests with accurate measuring equipment.

      I just got one too. It's really fun. Only issue is the battery life and charging. You need to get the fly more kit + a 100w charger to get the most out of the charging rate (faster charge). The regular rate is low on the single charger.

    the reason why it's eating a lot of battery on the way back is because it's battling against the wind coming from the right. That would definitely add up to the power consumption so it's always safe to return at around 60%, even better at 65%
