I hate the touch screen in my car because it takes to much of you attention off the road trying to operate it. Luckily, I don't have to use it that much while driving thanks to steering wheel controls and the AC being controlled via buttons/nobs. I can't imagine having to use a touchscreen to control everything while driving, seems almost dangerous to me.
Yep agree... Even the glove box is on the touch screen... Seems like a novelty to me. I feel like silicon valley is out of touch with the rest of the world, living in their own fantasy world. Hope that the electronics for that doesn't wear out... Especially if pulled over to get your registration and insurance... I prefer a physical one.
Stop going about commenting on every famous youtuber's video (unlike you) to get attention. You will not get more subscribers unless you work hard on your content for it.
Yes i know Premium cars you have to buy extras, i have a bmw i know. But you pay for these features at the factory. But these features on the tesla are already in the car and you have to pay to "unlock". That's ridiculous.
+TranscriptUK1 You are wrong again, there were also sensors and devices build in other non Tesla cars 10 year ago and more. Some might have had already a standard function and could be potentially used for other functions with a software update, some might just be build in regardless if the option was bought or not because it was ordered often anyway. Some options which were deemed to expensive were only build in on order. Counterintuitively it makes the car cheaper if you have a more unified and less variable build process. *So yes it is the SAME thing with modern and past premium cars, **_some_** stuff was as well just a software update, just like with Tesla. It is nothing new to the industry.*
I think they hoped it would be self driving at the time of release, which was a bit overly optimistic if you see the painfully slow progress on the older Model S and X. So they ried to design that into the car. And now you are stuck with a mediocre usability solution.
I do open it quite often...and anyways I don't see any sensible reason to add complexity. You may not use the glovebox but you surely use A/C...well, you have to go through menus even for regulating the airflow...something you can do with a single simple gesture in every other car. Do you think it is sensible? I do not...if this was a regular car, everyone would have criticised its bad ergonomics...but it's a Tesla, so everything is forgiven.
In my old car is one push of a button, so now it's double the effort. They sell it as futuristic tech but they actually made it worse...and if the battery fails you can't even open it.
They made everything minimalist so it can be used for ride sharing eventually, that’s why the hotel card was implemented, and everything can be locked down by the center screen (don’t want ride sharers digging through your glovebox)
I think you missed the point of the electronic controls (like the glove box) a bit. Elon once announced an update in the future when full self driving is supported with which you can send you car to generate money for you. Passengers can unlock the car with an app but can't change settings as long as they aren't allowed to do so
jannik liebl True, although if there was a button it need not actually be mechanical - eg. you could have it not actually open the glovebox if it's not allowed - it would just be another software check
My dad put a deposit 2 and a half years ago but since we are in Canada my dad is going to get it way later than Americans are. This blows my mind how dumb that concept is......... Well hope you love the model 3.😁😁😁😁😁 PS love your vids.
Elon Musk said just over a month ago (Dec 7) that a fully self-driving car will be ready in another two years (end of 2019, early 2020). So...where did you guys hear 2018 will be the year? What are your sources? Mine's electrek.
Tesla actually saves you cost of Changing engine oil, gear oil, brake oil, dust filters and shit... You are saving by spending more in my opinion, Charging cost is wayy less than fuel, Even if you drive 250 miles a day, you can recharge it overnight. It gives a good look, nice pickup, speed. Only thing I am skeptical about is the life of the car.. how long will the battery last till it is to be replaced..
Tushar, unofficial data suggests that Tesla are very good at preventing battery degradation. Something like 92% capacity remains after 300,000 miles (IIRC). I can find the source for this if you're interested.
Nice video - I quite prefer this Tech perspective on cars actually. The petrol heads get a bit too technical for me and I'm always more interested in the geeky tech features anyway. Please do more...
2018 Corolla costs you $18,550 + $25,781 in fuel costs + $2,500 in oil changes + $5,000 maintenance driving for 300,000 miles during that time. Total $51,831. Then you have to buy a new car. Motor and transmission are usually dying at that point. Tesla Model 3 costs $35,000 + $12,890 fuel costs + $5,000 maintenance in that same 300,000 miles costing you only $52,890.... then you have another 700,000 miles to go before the car is scrap because the battery is good for 15 years and the motor is good for about a million miles... Final total is $155,500 for a Toyota Corolla vs $69,890 for a model 3. Let that sink in for a second, that is an 85,610 savings in 1 million miles! ICE is dead.
Until Tesla offers a *Solid-state* Li-ion, Na-ion or Mg-ion batteries and the hardware for at least Level 4 if not 5 autonomous driving .. I'll pass. So far it looks like everyone but Tesla and Mercedes .. both companies seem to have made major misjudgements in choosing their partnerships.
The reason that all the controls are in the screen is because it's designed to be a self-driving taxi and if it's going to drive people around by itself, you don't want them to have access to things like the glovebox.
It seems so unsafe to move everything to a touch screen instead of tactile feedback.,. Can't feel for the AC knob, have to look at the screen for the slider... Or wait, this update moved it!!! Swerves and then gets in a wreck. Not allowed to hold your phone while driving, yet fumbling around with a giant touch screen mounted to the car itself seems okay to these people?
Cant count the number of times that Tesla wanted to crash when the reviewer tested the autopilot yet here these idiots keep suggesting to use it? Damn kids these days...
The dual motor will have air suspension and future vehicles will as well. So stiff ride is a moot point unless you have originals that were delivered first.
The novelty doesn't seem to ever wear off when they accelerate. You just can't get that with an ICE car. If you want anything close to that acceleration you are going to have to spend 200k.
Sweet car. I do agree with the "less is more" that Jake said. After just getting a miata, I can say that having less space and things doesn't affect my day.
I clicked on your channel just to figure out if the iPod touch 6G was worth it but then I saw videos like building the ultimate Nintendo switch and I just got hooked to your channel like a magnet latching on to a refrigerator.
In all fairness....the slight tilt to look at the screen for directions is still miles safer than looking at your cellphone with one hand. Cool car overall....all the money invested in this car translates into a whole lotta tech.
I feel like it needs a heads-up display, looking all the way across for sat nav just takes away the point of removing the dash dials in the first place.
DestinToBe05 you win even without any of the addons. Also, you're complaining about having the choice between being able to safe money by getting a more basic configuration or paying more for a more premium one? "Oh no, I can get a better car for more money, how horrible!"
I was a mechanic. GM I think in the mid 80s learned the hard way not to put all of you gauges on one screen. If one gauge stopped working the car would completely stop running and you would have to replace the whole screen. When you park the car the temps regularly go to 140 degrees and you go over a couple of million bumps, not a good enviornment for electronics. All of the electronics are neat when the car is new but maybe not when the car has 60,000 miles. I think electric cars are superior to gas cars in warm weather cities, but maybe the Tesla is not that car. When people spend 50,000 on a car they tend not to think about its reliability at 60,000 miles and they should.
Mohammed Islam plus 8k for autopilot....... plus something similar for awd...... when the base model is 35k lol and anything other than black was a lot.... compared to other cars
The app doesn't use bluetooth, it uses cellular data. So you can do these things from anywhere in the world, unless it changed with the 3, but on the S and X it's cell data.
Considering that you guys mentioned it was smaller than the model S it must be pretty big if it can fit ken and all his gear on the dashboard
xD

I wonder how much ram a tesla has
joe nodden 2gigs ddr2
joe nodden ik they use radeon graphics I think a Rx 400 series GPU but don't quote me on that
Chrysler/Fiat tend to have a lot more RAM.
If your not satisfied just download more
If the car run low of ram, you only need overclock the power supply to 4 ghz

Tesla model 4 premium comes with triple monitor gaming PC
Nice! The dual motors are smaller also do they're more efficient
Teslanomics by Ben Sullins It's also twice the amount of things to break!
I don't think we know what size the dual motors will be for the Model 3. I think the rear will be the same as the RWD Model 3.
All four wheels have brakes on them already so it would be the same amount of breaking.
Braking != breaking
Shame you're a homophobic idiot.

So can it run Crysis?
please this became an old meme like your name
Nvidia Drive PX2 would need a ARM port of Crysis. But yes it has overkill amount of GPU power to run Crysis 2.
First time in a long time, this is actually a legit question: yes, it destroys it.
Yes in max settings.

dude normal car touch screen are shit also this car has support for audio commands
You’re ignoring the fact that the car has autopilot...
Great video guys! My favorite quirk about this car is the wild ventilation system and it's touchscreen control, it's a really clever design.
I subscribed to your channel a long time ago.

i think SAAB or GM had that type of ventilation system in the 80's it saved on cost...
Hey what’s up
So even cars are doing DLC now loool
That is not a new thing, all the premium cars were doing it way 10 years ago.

That would've been awesome. haha
The screen looks waaay too distracting, I would like it more if it had a regular dash, or a smaller screen in front of the driver.
Agreed. This would have been a really good car if it had a regular dashboard.
If you think that screen is distracting then let me know what you think of Byton’s screens in their car. Lol
I think they hoped it would be self driving at the time of release, which was a bit overly optimistic if you see the painfully slow progress on the older Model S and X. So they ried to design that into the car. And now you are stuck with a mediocre usability solution.

Wow, Tesla and Vsauce in one video. Best video ever.
So you got to buy the Heted backseat DLC, and Autopilot? Is that an EA car ?

So...you have to go through menus just to open the glovebox??? Are they nuts? They made harder to do a very simple thing...that's not very cool...
Sebbuz11 not really, how often do you open a glovebox ? once a week, once every two weeks, it's all about keeping it clean inside
I do open it quite often...and anyways I don't see any sensible reason to add complexity. i think about Q2 with full software
You're saying it like being a labrat driving an unfinished product bought at incredible price is some kind of privilege.

Mr. Fifth-Gen the free gift that you recieved... Is it worth it? What an idiotic question
2018 Corolla costs you $18,550 + $25,781 in fuel costs + $2,500 in oil changes + $5,000 maintenance driving for 300,000 miles during that time. Total $51,831. Then you have to buy a new car. David Beppler And that's why my family sticks to Ford.
Hello,What time Frame are those numbers?
Where the hell did you come up 155k?
A lot of model s have their batteries replaced under warranty, I’m sure this isn’t going to happen to the model 3.
ICE won't be dead for at least a century, can you normies stay away from the car community.
Jake!!! Awesome that you got a 3! I hope the rest of the VSauce teams does also! Love all the channels! Cant wait for my 3!!!
Hug the poor man Austin
even tesla is doing dlc,wht next? mircotransactions?
Lootboxes...
Jacellious every car company does this to a certain extent
Tesla already does this by charging thousands of extra dollars for them to unlock stuff already on their cars.
Tesla made by EA in a nutshell
Wait what? Car companies have BEEN doing this. Paying a couple extra bucks for convenience features has been a thing for a long time.
Keverw It drives itself?
With the upgrade but you are still supposed to watch it with the autopilot. I don't think 100% humanless driving will be approved anytime soon.
Put it in autopilot u fat fuck.
Is it worth it to have Austin Evans drive your multi thousand dollar car?
Literally every car is a multi-thousand dollar car.
That's the point
"And a small child "...
Austin : "Hey Guys! Was 2017 worth it?"
"The less you have, the more you realize what you don’t need." That's philosophy right there.
Sweet car. I do agree with the "less is more" that Jake said. After just getting a miata, I can say that having less space and things doesn't affect my day.
Is this ad worth watching?
Just a joke lads relax

Having airflow controlled electronically means multiple drivers can have the airflow automatically adjust to their unique preset positions.
Tesla DLC - Pay extra to unlock all features.
Kiran Alokkan it’s only for the autopilot and self driving, so fair enough

‘There’s a lot of interesting quirks’ - Doug emerges
I feel like it needs a heads-up display, looking all the way across for sat nav just takes away the point of removing the dash dials in the first place.
The car is literally a a base game that has pay to win dlc it's a money grab
DestinToBe05. Gets fairly expensive with all the add ons & after tax. Exact same with the model s. Subsidies help but it's not cheap.
DestinToBe05 you win even without any of the addons.
Also, you're complaining about having the choice between being able to safe money by getting a more basic configuration or paying more for a more premium one?
"Oh no, I can get a better car for more money, how horrible!"
TreeSquared3 if the feature is already there it's just basically locked behind a pay wall then that is a money grab
DestinToBe05 well technically the feature isn't there. It's more like having the pc capable of playing a game and then paying for the game in addition
X3C I smell bullshit, it's just another way the company can make more money
Finally saw the Model 3 in person last Wednesday. Pictures/videos cannot coney how awesome this car is! Can’t wait to get mine.
Is it waterproof
You went all the way up to 45...smooth editing very smooth :D

I sometimes lose my car keys and I sometimes lose my wallet. With the Model 3, I can lose them both at the same time. Unique key design though.
Wilvin But you never lose your smartphone.
azalru you do
CordiaSR There's an app for that and you find it.
@azalru
Yeah, I rarely lose my smartphone. That's only because I am constantly using it or checking it. Its almost always in the same room as me.
It might be but my bank account doesn't like it
Mohammed Islam plus 8k for autopilot....... plus something similar for awd...... when the base model is 35k lol

Mohammed Islam then gift me one
Tuner Mafia the internet says otherwise
Is watching all the video s of Austin worth it?
Austin, you're a perfect car reviewer, no joke, you really should do more car reviews, I'd love to see a review of your Audi.
Great video. Hope you do more car and car tech content this year.
Plot Twist: Tesla's become self intelligent and overtake the human race.
joe nodden it will...
