Those SU-57s look really good, they even animated the flight surfaces above the intakes. Even when the first one gets shot down, you can see how the horizontal stabilizer moves as the plane fights to keep itself leveled
The CGI in this scene is very seamless. For those who don't know, the production never actually used an F-14 and obviously, couldn't get their hands on a pair of Su-57s. Edit: The F-14 used on the ground is real. On flight, CGI.
That is correct. But the flying is still real. They used the F18s but CGId them to look like an F14 and decorated the cockpits for the actors to look like an old F14 cockpit. Another fun fact, the only scene in this film with a real F14 was actually when they pulled it out of the hangar. It was a museum prop. They towed it out because there’s no engines anymore (obviously) but they restored just enough in the hydraulics system to raise and lower the canopy.
Yeah, unfortunately the US didn't keep a single flight-capable F-14 for airshows or anything. All western F-14s are grounded and stuck in air museums. The only nation where you can find a functional F-14 is Iran, and that's kind of a tricky situation if you wanted to borrow one.
@@JavierTheAstronaut Honestly I may be completely wrong but I think it may just be a cobra with the flair of using yaw while at its peak. The reason for this is that enemy fighter still has quite a lot of forward movement and simply pitches down to recover, rather than the bell which is a total stop to all forward and transfer into upward and falling tail first back into forward flight. To be fair everyone says it's a bell but I think it may be a case of telephone.
@@genericjim7983 yeah your right it’s just that the maneuver is only used for air shows especially when you use a f2s or like su57 but normally people call it “kvochur’s bell” because of its cobra and yawing to the right but was basically a Russian maneuver named after a Russian test pilot but when you use this for dog fights this will be physically impossible for just a cool maneuver that is just doing a cobra then yaw to the right but yes you are right but normally it’s sometimes called kvochur’s bell
One thing I adore is how the enemy pilot's helmet completely hides their face so that you can't see that it's human it takes away the emotion so that you only see it as the bad guy. This is also why in Star Wars the empire wears helmets in the movies.
I love that shot of the enemy pilot looking over his shoulder, seeing the F-14 coming down behind. It looks so menacing, not unlike the wings of a bird of prey diving for its victim. Still the best looking fighter ever made.
yeah with the music also :P the F14 looks lethal, id imagine at this point the enemy pilot knew he was up against the best pilot on earth and was fighting for survival at that point he no longer a threat but has become the hunted
@Roberto Auel Same here. It's brilliant art direction, the way the fighters are portrayed so animalistic, like watching two apex predators fighting in an Attenborough nature documentary. Just before the start of this clip, there's a close-up of the 5th gen cockpit rising from the bottom of the screen. It reminds me of the T-rex in Jurassic Park, lifting its head, scoping out what it thinks is prey, just staring & looking for movement, deciding whether to attack or not. Really adds to the tension of the scene.

Sorry the scene was totally unreal, the fight scene between F14 vs SU57. In real world the F14 would have already been destroyed from SU57 in just one circle, WVR (within visual range) and rate fight on a dogfight as well as BVR (beyond visual range) match. The movie was great, but the fight scene was totally fake. Even that the film maker of this film they don't know the specification and avionics of all the aircraft such as F14, F18 as well as SU57. They made them totally fake.
Nope. The only remaining flying F14s are operated by Iran, and the Su-57 has not yet been exported and is not available to film. Besides that, the F14 would induce a flat spin if differential thrust was used like Mav's first trick, and certainly does not have the post-stall / near-stall / high AoA characteristics to perform the second. Definitely CG.

The SU-57 sequences and shots in this film are some of the best examples of amazing CGI I can think of. Obviously, with there being less than 15 of these aircraft considered "mission capable" in the real world, and all property of the Russian Military, these scenes required the use of CGI. But everything from the sound, to the vapor and air effects, to the movement is just so real and lifelike that it's honestly fits in perfectly when you consider that MOST (but not all) of the footage in this film is of real aircraft.

If they kept the circle, the Tomcat could often win. It really came down to the pilots when it was Hornets against Tomcats and who could maximize their strengths. Rule#1 of the Tomcat was to never get low with the Hornet. That meant death.
There was actually a plan to upgrade the F-14 with modern tech to further extend it's service life into the 2000s and beyond. It was called the Super Tomcat. However the cost of upgrading enough F-14s to meet the requirements was more than simply replacing them with a totally new plane.

AWACS Long Caster:"Su-57s. Highly capable planes. Stay on your toes when you engage them."
It's all real 😎
The CGI in this scene is very seamless. For those who don't know, the production never actually used an F-14 and obviously, couldn't get their hands on a pair of Su-57s.
Edit: The F-14 used on the ground is real. On flight, CGI.
😂
The only nation where you can find a functional F-14 is Iran, and that's kind of a tricky situation if you wanted to borrow one.

that maneuver at that part is called the kvochurs bell btw
@@JavierTheAstronaut thanks
His wingman survived too, you can see him eject just before the missile hits. Interestingly, this means Mav doesn't kill a single person in the movie.
One thing I adore is how the enemy pilot's helmet completely hides their face so that you can't see that it's human it takes away the emotion so that you only see it as the bad guy. This is also why in Star Wars the empire wears helmets in the movies.

Laid back and relaxed because they think they are going to win. They had no idea an ace pilot was in the seat.
Then Mav opens up with the Vulcan/Sidewinder, then the pilot actually starts to sweat.
They wouldn't win obviously. They're flying extremely low which means the su57 pilot is very experienced as well. Meaning the f14 wouldn't ever get behind. The su57 would be constantly on its back no matter how much maneuvering he'd do. Its a silly scene but still entertaining.

Damn y’all need to do your research. Obviously the planes are CGI because the U.S. ain’t getting their hands on a SU57 and the F14 is out of service. The flying is still real, the design is just CGI’d for the reasons discussed above. Do your research.

In the future, maybe explain to people why you think it's unrealistic or impossible instead of just repeatedly saying that it is and expecting people to just believe you.
@@JustinWilliams-ed2ug Translated: You have nothing better to say in response. You could have spent those keystrokes on searching for things like "how do missiles track targets?" or "how do I avoid looking like a dipshit on the internet?"
But you didn't. So, here you are, still completely clueless on the subject and looking like a total dipshit on the internet.
I'd say "your mother must be proud," but you could just as easily walk upstairs and ask her yourself.
0:54 That smooth Cobra manoeuvre of Su 57s with that chilling music was just epic
We need more movies that doesn't involve superhero costumes.

The cobra maneuver was dope. The pilot was really a pro just like mav.
This scene is up there for all-time best.
I like how he immediately flies towards the dropping plane because he knows a missile is coming. Always a few steps ahead.
He used the burning flames of the enemy to trick the missile
Reminds me how some Simulator pilots messed up their missiles because it kept targeting the sun
@@guts-141 you realise that sun is not close, so that's possible with a jet but definitely not with the sun. Common sense
@@ptyxmvm actually that was an issue with early heat seekers. Older variants of the Sidewinder would routinely lock onto the sun or to clouds (basically they’d go after the hottest thing in the sky). To correct this in newer versions, they added optical filters to the sensor to only allow it to track certain wavelengths of infrared energy. This same system is also used to help defeat countermeasures
