Hooooly balls! Know what would translate super well to mobile? Kirby Air Ride! Make steering Gyro-controlled and everything the A button did touch-controlled and bam! That's basically it!
you, sir, are a genius! Kirby air ride must be remembered, and it lends itself perfectly to one touch controlls! But how would multiplayer work... I dont care if a sequel or a remaster, but this needs to happen and they cant cut out city trial NO MATTER WHAT!!!
The thing is, Nintendo wants these to be games that make you want to get the console version. And I can't see a Kirby Air Ride on Switch any time soon, unless you charge Nintendo in a swarm demanding it.
Atsuko Kagari Doesn't the internet do exactly that any time Air Ride is mentioned by anybody? I mean, look at the attention my comment is getting. If they can't see the demand for it, that's on them.

*_My ideal model for Mario kart Tour_* There would be 6 cups. The first 2 cups can be played for free. There would be limited car parts and only the basic characters. Buying the full game would allow the ability to unlock more cups, parts, and characters. There would be a simplified control scheme that still brings back the basics. The tracks would be wider to compensate for smaller screens, and the tracks themselves would tend to be closer to Wii tracks, than the modern 8 tracks. There are 6 players at a time, and you can play multiplayer with random people, or with friends online. There would be a simple battle mode with 4 tracks. Probably only balloon battle and coin runners. Possibly even a new mode. A mission mode would be great, but my idea already has so much content, that I don't see it happening, unless they take away the battle mode or something. That's about it.
If they add controller support and a bit of optimization it could be closer to a proper Mario kart. Also if they do some dlc it could be really good as they can develop and add tracks and characters easily. Also online with friends is a must I'm emulating slot of the games on my smartphone and thr lack of online is so crippling to the enjoyment of it.
I did just shower... Anyway, yeah. I hope Nintendo figures out mobile-phone gaming pretty quick. It's not something I'd ever take advantage of, but I feel like they deserve some of the money that Candy Tetris or Clash of Whatsits has had such bizarrely easy access to.
I won't get MK Tour because I don't play mobile games but this will probably be wildly successful and Nintendo have shown that they won't cut back on their console games to go all out on mobile. And, hey, more money for Nintendo is more games for us in the future.
6:22 - "I think the biggest problem is that the game can take a good number of hours to complete but only if you wanna collect everything, if you just wanna beat the levels you can burn through it in no time." I could argue the same thing about Mario Odyssey, it´s feels really short and way too easy "if you just wanna beat the levels". 90% of the hours you´ll spend in both games will be after you finished the main story, and I believe this is actually a better thing on mobile that on a home console/pc because it fits the mobile gaming style where people play for "just a bit". You open "Mario Run", you do one or two (races/remixes/attempts for the five coins on a level) and you go on with your life. You open "Mario Odyssey", you get a couple of moons and you go on with your life. this still works because of the mobile aspect of the Switch(I believe the game would be much diferent on a different console)
Qbe Root i think they will add a control circle that you'll move with your finger and also the graphics might be similar to mk7 but i think it will be more to double dash or mkwii
Kind of sounds perfect to me, and I honestly hope that's all that it is. Hopefully they don't fuck it up. Judging from Nintendo's past attempts at mobile games, they'll probably add in a bunch of gimmicky shit, or water down the gameplay, or both.
You’re videos are so amazing and well done! The videos are long, but I can’t stop watching! It seems like you put so much work into these and you really deserve more subscribers for the work you do. You are now one of my favorite channels to watch.
Fernando Godoy yeah, the only way I think a good mobile Metroid game would be, sadly, pinball. Metroid requires quick reactions and control, and that'd be nigh impossible to do with a touch screen. There are things that are a lot better to do with actual buttons.
Hey Arlo! "Free to start" means free to play to Nintendo. They dont like the term "free to play" so they use "free to start" instead. They consider Fire Emblem Heroes as free to start too, so Mario kart Tour will contain microtransactions for sure. Still a good video tho, keep it up!
They say the same with free to play 3DS titles like Rusy, Steel Diver, and Pokemon Picross. It's just their way of saying it, at least the term is more honest.
Arlo... Free to start is actually just nintendo's way to say free to play. They think the word free to play is disingenuous because those games ultimately end up not being free because you can pay for aspects of them. Mario run is not free to start. It's just a paid game with a demo... I know it's confusing. So the game will be free like fire emblem or animal crossing with paid elements... Be it for parts or some sort of 'race tokens' I have no idea
That's not what the app store says. The app store says "Free" when you go to download the game, so it _is_ free to start. It's just that afterwards Nintendo suddenly smacks you with a ten dollar paywall about five minutes after you start playing. Though not technically false advertising, it still leaves a bad taste in people's mouths.
The Library what I'm getting at is that Mario kart tour will be free to play essentially. Not a free demo of a 10 dollar game. Nintendo just calls it free to start because it's nintendo
The Library Nintendo knows they can sell us Beach outfit Peach, Easter Yoshi and Christmas Bowser maybe all in racer/parts loot boxes similar to Fire Emblem Heroes
DOES ANYONE REMEMBER THAT SONIC & SEGA ALL-STARS RACING AND ITS SEQUEL WERE ON MOBILE? And that they were just lower-res versions of the console games?
Install base sizes if you were curious console > 500 million pc > 1 billion mobile > 2 billion I think the prices on mobile may be unfortunate. People think that just because its on your phone means it should be free or no more than $2. It's a strange way of thinking but yeah it is the way people think. 2 digit numbers just scare people. Which is kind of too bad because it sort of means having a game that has the same level of depth that a standard handheld game is put out of reach because people won't pay the same sort of price for that as they might for a handheld game. And we've seen the reverse too right, a mobile game moving to Switch with mostly the same stuff but the price is inflated to better match what the prices are for those games, but the game itself doesn't really change. Just some thoughts.
Generally, I would agree, but that is not always the case. Simply porting a game made for buttons directly to mobile usually results in a lesser if not straight up cruddy experience, but that is because they were designed to use buttons and not a touchscreen. If you properly design a game for mobile, the experience can be just as good, though you will likely end up with a very different gameplay experience. Fire Emblem and Advance Wars were great on the DS using touchscreen only controls, buttons actually got in the way. And Civilization IV translates very well to touchscreens. The Room is also a good mobile experience.
+hater De I'd have to disagree, plenty of games could easily translate to buttonless or button minimal versions with no change in content. Think of classic turn based RPGs, for example. All you need is to be able to move across the map (hold an edge of a touch screen), move through menus (just like how you scroll through anything on a phone)and to simply touch the option you want. The only thing I could think of that would need to even have button would be opening the menu. Yet for some reason, even when we get RPG mobile games, they are still watered down, and often don't even give you options. It makes no sense
Justin Keys i think a lot of the reason for that is that nearly every mobile game sucks ass. Even when a big console developer makes a mobile game, it's just terrible.
Factoid yah, they industry doesn't take the mobile game seriously that's why we will never have games like Xenoblade chronicles 3D on mobile, I'm sure the iPhone X or 8 (heck even the 7) could handle that kind of game (if the new 3ds could) but mobile companies are just not interested in getting us real games, that's why I as a gamer just ignore my phone when it comes to gaming, except for Hearthstone, blizzard made it possible to get the real PC experience without watering it down on Phone or tablet
Arlo, I defiantly agree that Mario Kart tour needs an IT factor in order for it to entice players to purchase the full game. I had the same exact sentiment as you when I first played Mario Run. Yes, it was really fun for a short while, but as soon as I was really getting into it, I hit a pay wall. And upon looking at what I would be getting, it was simply not worth the $10.00 to play 3 hours of simplified Mario (Fun Fact: You can get New Super Mario Bros Wii for less than that). So Mario Kart Tour needs to have two things to be succesful. First thing is that it needs to be smple and easy enough where the user can play the game for a minute while they are on the train, waiting in line etc... and close it to play it later. Animal Crossing Pocket Camp did exactly that which is why I am still playing it to this day! The second thing it needs is exactly what you said in your video: The game needs to have enough free content to lure in the potential customer. If I feel like I want to unlock more features after exploring the large free to play sections, then it will without a doubt reel in customers. PS: You're legit my favorite RUclipsr :)
I really appreciated Mario Run's pay system, and honestly the first 3 levels and a lot of Toad Tour playing did hook me into spending $10. No Ads too, was also a big draw as opposed to the other mobile games. I wouldn't call myself a mobile gamer (and while I don't have a switch, yet) and the payment system, and demo format was actually quite a big draw for me, it harkened back to a simpler time when I could play Sims 2 for 60 minutes for free. So those are my two cents.
I want them to have a rpg like style where you have your own party (Mario, Luigi, Peach etc) and you have to make and upgrade their karts, then when you are done you send them off to races and when they come back you earn coins to unlock more kart parts, characters etc.
I think the game will be focused on something that's a norm in mobile games: repetition. You'll probably have single tracks divided in small chunks that you'll need to do small missions like 'hitting 10 traffic cones', 'avoid bananas' and stuff like that to build some counter that will allow you to play a regular race. Besides that, the controls will be dumbed down to fit the mobile market. I bet they'll even make MKT to be played on vertical with swapping mechanics like those infinite runners.
You know what’s funny, today I wore blue body paint on my face for my Egyptian wax museum project (I was the Nile god Hapi) and then I watched this video and arlo told me I look great today! Funny cause we’re both blue
No reason not to take this mobile. Pocket Camp and Mario Run are making good money I'm sure, but Pokemon GO has totaled around $1.5billion dollars as of today. It still averages a couple million users daily, so the cash flow won't stop anytime soon. I can see them bringing much more to the mobile gaming realm, and honestly, why not? Much cheaper than producing consoles and physical games for said consoles. No harm done for Nintendo, nor for the consumer. If we don't like mobile games, whatever, don't get them. Genius Nintendo move, really.
One benefit of the mobile Nintendo games is that people who don't own Nintendo systems can actually play them. I don't have a single Nintendo console (handheld or otherwise), so I can't play Fire Emblem Awakening or Super Mario Odyssey (or Blazing Blade or Sunshine), but I _can_ play Fire Emblem Heroes and Super Mario Run. That's enough to make me _want_ to play the other Fire Emblem games, and (along with that) get a Nintendo console to play them on.
Timothy McLean ironically Ive done this. Fire Emblem Heroes was a download and enjoyed the game. Ive created a Nintendo account with the plans to get a switch and I did about a few months later lol
im right there with you on the flip to smart transition arlo... to this day i can still hear my coworkers cackling at my flip phone. It haunts me so...
I think youay have missed the mark on this one. When Nintendo says free to start they mean any game with microtransactions. I remember when Pokemon trozei came out for the 3ds and they said the same thing about that game that it was free to start and that game also featured microtransactions not just buying the game after a few levels.
I like the idea of it being sorta like Kirby Air Dash, an auto-racer that's more about knowing when to move and filled with optional challenges, but I also love the idea of it having some management elements to it. Unlock new racers, new karts, customize your own cart, make pieces better, usual mobile stuff. I like that.
I agree that $10 was steep for Mario Run. With getting the purple and black coins it did offer some challenge and replay-ability, but for people who didn't care about that I can't imagine them being satisfied. $5 would have been a fair value I think
Mario Kart Run? That would be interesting lol. But yeah, I actually forgot about that. There were a few times I would go to play it, and couldn't because I was in a subway or something with no connection. Total crap
Eric Mitchell I really don't understand how a game on a smartphone is seen so differently value wise than in console. If Mario run would be on the switch people wouldn't think twice about 10 bucks.
Ben Posner I see what you're saying, but it's just about a comparative market. On mobile a certain value is expected, usually free lol, with microtransactions. If the game was on a console or dedicated handheld, it would be a better and/or more involved game in order to meet those expectations. Mario run fell in a bit of a middle ground between them
Ben Posner its because of the ecosystem its on. apps are seen as quick purchases. if they would of priced lower dollar amount and spread them out they would of made more money even though it costs less. look at successful games you spend $1-$5 but you burn through it so you spend it more often there's a chance some won't pay but the ones that do make up for it in spades
I don’t know about you but I can’t really bring my Switch everywhere. It’s just too valuable to bring outside. Having Mario Kart Tour isn’t going to be game changing, especially since we’ve had Mario Kart portable for quite some time and if I really had to, I could play MK7 on my 3DS. I’m going to be excited if it’s some companion app for MK8 Deluxe though, like as you purposed something like maintaining a garage or whatever. Mario Kart in concept is not a “pick up and play” game. Most courses take about 3 minutes each. I don’t know if this is what they’ll do but I can see them doing something like a “gambling” your currency on who is going to win something akin to horse racing. A bit of a stretch though.
The mobile gaming platform is such a strange and alien place, the game can literally be anything. I don't think it will sell very well if it's not multiplayer focused though. Plus Nintendo has made so many mistakes that many of us non-business regular old people would never make. They either need to understand the mobile market or step away from that platform entirely.
Nintendo offers free to start with a variety of free games. On the 3ds, the free pokemon games give the entire game to play and offer ingame purchases for bonuses.
Butternut Squash: THE MOBILE APP!!!?! No thanks, mobile games represent a blight upon mankind and their cancerous price models have spread to big budget games like the disease that they are.
Confirmed: Arlos have a sense of smell. We learn more about this strange creature every day.
They should make a warioware game for mobile
That makes alot of sense actually. Surprised they haven't done that yet.
Torin Sparks there used to be a game when I had my iPad called mini game party and it was just that. It was so much fun
I'd love a mobile Rhythm Heaven title
YESYESYES
Congrats on your _smartphone_ Arlo, I bet it smells great! :D
Now we need Mario Kart Go, which is meant for playing while driving 👍
Lol, I wish I thought of that joke
... Really now?
Actually that kinda work if it's sort of like a glorified gps app.
They need to have kart stops to refill gas tanks to keep driving
Yes please!
arlo has a nose?
L O R E
You don't need a traditional nose to smell. He could have some similar orifice in a different place. As long as the stimulus reaches his olfactory center, he's good to go.
Or maybe he was fooling us. Maybe he really can't smell, and was just trying to kiss up to us. The trickster! >:I
... wait. Can he kiss up? Does he have lips?
Does Arlo only have one arm?
Fokii
Yeah, but it can gyrate around his body to be used wherever it's most convenient at the moment
Nah he probably just has nostrils
I think Nintendo needs to hire Arlo to create more game concepts
I just came from a Beat em ups (the youtuber) video and a dude said the same thing about an idea that the guy had. I think at least Nintendo should see this videos (from Arlo and Beat em ups too) and consider the options actual fans give them for free
Arlo, do you even have a nose?
Never stopped Krillin
I was about to ask the same
lmao
I was just about to comment that and found this as the top comment XD

You know what, thanks for telling me I smell good, Arlo. I just got a new shampoo, and as a guy with long hair I find shampoos to be a very importaint topic. Some of them can make my mass of hair smell disgusting, some could make it smell exceedingly feminine, but I think the one I picked up recently smelled great.
It's really nice to hear that someone else agrees I smell good.
Shampoo and Conditioner in particular are pretty important if you got longer hair. Nice profile pick by the way!
I trust your sentiments entirely when you have an Uraraka avatar.

God that would work SO well.
That's... actually.. an incredible idea

Oh my god yes
YES YES YES
I did just shower...
Anyway, yeah. I hope Nintendo figures out mobile-phone gaming pretty quick. It's not something I'd ever take advantage of, but I feel like they deserve some of the money that Candy Tetris or Clash of Whatsits has had such bizarrely easy access to.
Deserve it? lol
I can kinda see what you mean. Nintendo puts a lot of effort into their games, and those mobile games rival that with little effort.
Don't worry Arlo, I didn't have a Smartphone until 2015.
I still don't have one lmao
I didn't get a phone until August of 2017
Same, got my first phone in mid 2015.
Didn't get one until Xmas 2k16
I just got one on christmas
Arlo why are you talking about my smell, this is getting awkward.

I know Arlo ever since his Color Splash video

you'll be lucky if it's that advanced, these are really toned down, so more like MK:DS.
MKDS has a lot more content than most Mario Kart games though.
I just hope that it’s close to super circuit
I honestly think these games are for the casual audience, like the people that don't own consoles.

Uh Arlo, Nintendo calls all Free to Plays "Free to Start."It's because Iwata didn't like the fact F2Ps are called F2P when that's not always true.
Yet another amazing upload, Arlo! Keep them coming and the masses will keep watching!
Insightful, and partial lols, Arlo. Love your videos!
Arlo I’m getting a restraining order
"You looks and probbaly smell really amazing today!" (Chokes up) I love you, Arlo.
0:05 Imagine every time you uploaded a video, your nasal cavity received a torrential gust of human odors.
I want them to have a rpg like style where you have your own party (Mario, Luigi, Peach etc) and you have to make and upgrade their karts, then when you are done you send them off to races and when they come back you earn coins to unlock more kart parts, characters etc.
Why thank you Arlo, you also look and (probably) smell nice too
KHZYX I spilled steak sauce all over my shirt. So yeah, I smell great
Butternut squash?!? Yes please!!!
Nice bedroom!
“I hope it doesn’t take a year to come out”
Thanks for the compliment
11:09 this is where the Wii’s success comes in Mario Kart for that console was a game just everyone who owned one had
*Dead meme ? YES PLEASE !*
KingEnD3RmAn BUTTERNUT SQUASH WILL NEVER DIE
I was just playing Mario kart 8. Look over on my phone and, oh! Arlo posted Mario kart.

What is your profile picture? It's kind of interesting.
Andrew Bailey it's Yin, Yang, and Rang. Aka the Tao Trio
You know what’s funny, today I wore blue body paint on my face for my Egyptian wax museum project (I was the Nile god Hapi) and then I watched this video and arlo told me I look great today! Funny cause we’re both blue
Nintendo needs to get some of their ideas from Arlo
"Butternut Squash?...
*Y E S P L E A S E!"*
I won't laugh at you Arlo, I still don't have a smartphone.
Here from late March 2019. No Mario Kart Tour yet.
And it turns out to be a card game
Circletoons
0:35 Arlo!! You had ONE health!!! WHY DIDN'T YOU PICK UP THE MOON?????
Arlo, you don't have a nose
I love it when Arlo starts his videos with a compliment. Now I'm blushing in a Starbucks and people think I'm talking to a girl.
Well, I did just shower...
Arlo, how can you smell us with no nose?
Zachary Jones
*illuminati theme plays*
He smells through his mouth.
You dont see his nose?
He smells with the little danglybobs on top of he head
im right there with you on the flip to smart transition arlo... to this day i can still hear my coworkers cackling at my flip phone. It haunts me so...
And one year later there is no news on the game
Love love looooove the Mario Kart Double Dash theme playing in the background. It's my favorite of the Kart series.
The real question is...
Does Arlo have a right arm?
careful with that profile pic bro
whew arlo uploaded--i needed something in the background :)
$5 would have been a fair value I think
edit: the problem with Mario run was the always online requirement even after purchase. plus the gameplay kinda sucked but eh
Yeah but solid pineapples? YES PLEASE!
Wait how can arlo even smell
Through his eyes I guess
Keyon J like the ninja turtles
The Grey Goblin makes sense
Tilt controls
What is that beginning

You watch Chuggaaconroy? Respect. You’ve earned my respect.

I refuse to recant
:[
I just got a smart phone 7 months ago, so you're not alone.
Who says it’s a game?
A nintendo styled Theme park would literally be bigger than Disney and Universal combined
ImpastaSauce good point it could secretly be a documentary of Reggie dancing
ImpastaSauce good point it could secretly be a documentary of Reggie dancing
Didn't they specifically call it an app?
N1nj4L1nk An app does not mean a game.
I was honestly waiting for you to bring it up
I don’t know about you but I can’t really bring my Switch everywhere.
I don’t have a switch so any type of MK is good for me xD
Nintendo offers free to start with a variety of free games. On the 3ds, the free pokemon games give the entire game to play and offer ingame purchases for bonuses.
Butternut Squash: THE MOBILE APP!!!?! No thanks, mobile games represent a blight upon mankind and their cancerous price models have spread to big budget games like the disease that they are.
