How would they possibly expect a semi-public beta to operate under some sort of embargo? Vintage Nintendo.
Who says they expected it to stay hidden? Just because you tell people "Don't do this thing" doesn't mean you believe it will work. But by making that part of the conditions, they have the right to do video takedowns on people who break the NDA.
They're not stupid. They know the best way to get the Internet to do something is to tell them to not do it. They wanted leaks, and videos like these to pop up to get people talking about it.
An NDA usually works as opposed to just asking nicely.
The moment when the Sonic Forces mobile racing game is better than Mario Kart.
(No stamina, play against live players)
Just Terex eh, when I played it, it was actually pretty fun and I enjoyed the game.
@@waffley9187 All of those except for the ads are in Mario Kart Tour, but Sonic Forces racing is fun.
Just Terex Actually the ads in the latest versions are optional to double the end of race rewards, or to skip timers on the lowbie chests. It still has plenty of phone game issues, but it’s better than the first impressions of MK Tour.
Just Terex the pay to win mechanics don’t really exist. I’ve played for a long while and from what I see most people play as who they like not who has the best stats. Most characters are balanced anyways. I gotta agree with the other guy about how it’s much better than this general impression of tour. The tracks do get pretty different later on.

Yeah, I misread it as “Wholesome” and didn’t realize my mistake until halfway through the video. 😅
Hi there again Nathan
Mario Kart with loot boxes?
Now THAT is worrisome.
Only for a free mobile game. Not in full priced Nintendo games unlike EA, Blizzard and Activision. People complained at Mario run for not having. Cant win either way.
I think there's a way to make it okay, and that's if you can't get a character once you have them. Cuz then, once you've unlocked EVERYTHING, there's nothing else to buy, and it'll always be a unique character you get, so, for example, 24 lootboxes can unlock you everything if there's 24 unlocks, and it's just a random order.
That would both be lootboxes getting some money off some people who want that one rare character, AND it would have a limit so nobody can blow $2000 on it.
The gotcha mechanic is not as bad as it seems. Yes, you will have an easier time winning if you have the right driver, kart, and glider which can be frustrating when you start the game from the beginning. However, you will eventually get every character as the pipe that you gain characters from (6:41) has a set number of each driver, kart, and glider. It never resets unless manually told to do so. If you got a duplicate item, it levels up its stats or bonuses (like if you got another Toad, then Toad is even more likely to get a mushroom from an item box). It is just a matter of earning (or buying) gems to shoot off the pipe.
I’m honestly exited.
I remember the days of being worried about the possibility of DLC being a thing in Mario Kart. Fortunately Nintendo handled it well in Mario Kart 8. Loot boxes on the other hand, I see no benefit to them.
The only thing that can save this is a *all new funky mode*

I'd forget the dozens of things simultaneously stressing me out right now
Without giving away too much let me just say from the several dozen hours I've put into the beta of mario kart tour it does not seem even remotely pay to win.
I've managed to get through every cup in the the beta after pretty much nonstop play of the game and it is incredibly generous. Emeralds are given very generously, I've gotten 100s of them through normal gameplay and you only need 45 for 10 rounds at the pipe.
Restoring all 5 of your hearts only takes *one* emerald, for only 2 emeralds you get 12 hearts and for 3 you get 20. I've managed to do just about everything I've wanted in the game through playtime alone. From what is in the beta, this game is one of the least pay to win mobile game I've seen to date.
I really hope everything you're saying is true
As a fellow tester, I can vouch for everything said here.
Yes I've tested to. He's absolutely right. You can beat every single cup without paying for something. There's also another short mode in Mario kart tour that does use diamonds but you can still get them from the cups.
oh thank god, I didn't want it to be pay to win
@@vectorite5508 Oh trust me, that can change.
Okay so I can clear up how the character and kart stuff works.
Characters have rarities, but this only impacts their base score, which doesn't vary all that much on rarities.
All characters have a special item that they can get but it's not common enough to matter.
All characters have affinities with certain tracks. Usually each character has ++ affinity with one track and + affinity with maybe two, neutral on all others. + Multiplies your score by 2 at the end of a race, ++ is 3x.
Karts and gliders also have affinities with tracks, independent of characters. Karts get speed boosts on tracks they're made for, gliders increase "item luck" which seems to affect your chance to get better items or perhaps to get your character's unique item.
Also some gliders seem to have passives that may grant a specific item at race start or raise the chance to get an item from a box, while kart passives usually impact how you interact with gimmicks, like a longer boost from boost pads or drift boosts.
The fact it takes you a paragraph to explain everything really shows how poorly thought out this game was (at least at the time of the current beta)
Ampharosite Seems more like it was strategically planned out so you buy more gacha & micro transactions.
Not quite, if you have a character with good affinity then you get more items per item box (neutral is 1, + is 2, and ++ is 3). Higher rarity characters have more courses that they have ++ affinity for, same for higher rarity karts and gliders.
One of the big problems is that "Frenzies" only occur when you get three of the same item and thus are only available to characters with good affinity. This of course also means that higher rarity characters can get frenzies on more courses.
You'll have to trust me when I say that I got the ultra rare gold glider and it doesn't only have ++ affinity on one course but like 7 or 8 where I'm at.
Aside from that you're pretty spot on.
@@ObserveTheCelestial Oh jeez I only have a few characters and my best is Toadette but I make do for now. Haven't logged in yet today though, I should do that. Thanks for the further details!

@@-lord1754 You do realize FEH has actually been pulling back F2P rewards for a good half a year now, right? There are PLENTY of games that are WAY more generous than FEH. This is made worse by the fact that other games with lower rates don't tend to require you to sacrifice something like 5 rare units to make ONE unit playable.
I'm glad to see your feeling better Arlo, keep up the good work
Lootboxes is Mario Kart Tour? Nice, that means I won't get to play it in Belgium. Good job nintendo!
I'm sorry for you. But...
Playing it probably won't be worth it anyway.
I am a player of the beta.
It is not cosmetic. Different karts, gliders, and riders have advantages on certain courses. Mario will get three item slots instead of the usual one on Mario Circuit, etc. There is some amount of p2w, but I don't think the advantages you get are so severe that you can win based on that alone. I am consistently getting first place (though yes, it is definitely against CPUs) even on tracks where I have zero advantages.
The stamina, so far, is quite generous, as you get all of your stamina refilled whenever you level-up, which at where I am in level (early teens) is enough to fairly consistently last me. I get five hearts from a level up and you get one heart every fifteen minutes. Five races takes me about fifteen minutes anyways, so I get in six races, at which point I'm usually really close to another levelup. Of course, this could change drastically the more levels you have.
So far, the game is quite fun. It could be more p2w than I anticipate at the moment, as getting duplicates from the gacha game levels up the character you get a duplicate for, making them more powerful. But we'll see. For the past few days I have been the number one ranked player for the Koopa Troopa Cup (Cpt Minnette), and I haven't even invested a ton into getting my characters to earn more points or whatnot.
I'm a beta tester as well and I 100% agree!
As a feh player, i only have one thing to say to getting characters randomly.
Ah shit, here we go again.
Nintendo making mobile games after the Switch release is... just nonsensical. It's a mobile system.
Gatcha mechanics, however, makes me distrust Nintendo as a company.
"Nintendo making mobile games after the Switch release is... just nonsensical. It's a mobile system.
"
Not really.
Think about it like this: the reason the 3DS did so much better than the PS Vita was because Nintendo understands the differences when it comes to designing games for console vs. designing games for handheld.
The PS Vita tried to be a console on the go, which made it only really popular with hardcore players, but half of the appeal of a handheld is being able to whip it out at any time, play for a few minutes, and put it away, which games designed for console don't lend themselves well to.
Apply that concept to the Switch, and you'll see why Nintendo makes mobile games.
The Switch fills part of the handheld niche, but not ALL of it. It's great for playing on the go... unless you want to be able to carry it in your pocket instead of needing a carrying case. And its flagship games are fantastic for long playing sessions, but less so for playing in short bursts.
Also, mobile devices provide a great opportunity for Nintendo to make games that are lower-budget and more casual than full-on Switch titles without drawing away from the sales of other games in the same series on Switch.
Know what I'm saying? It lets them make another Mario Kart game without creating competition with 8 Deluxe. It let them make another Animal Crossing to tide over the fans until AC Switch while not creating _competition_ with AC Switch.
Nintendo has always operated using a two-platform model. Their console games were generally in-depth and their handheld games were generally more casual. The Switch is able to do all console games, as well as the more in-depth among the handheld games, but as far as the REALLY casual games go, those are only really any good on a platform that lends itself well to casual, spontaneous, on-the-go play, and mobile is the best for that.
Switch gamers and mobile gamers are two different markets though. Remember when people were saying the rise of mobile gaming was going to render handheld gaming obsolete? After all, everyone has a phone, mobile games are free to download and there's a huge selection. Yet, handheld gaming is still around, I'm guessing because there are people out there would rather pay full price for a quality game rather than sift through shovelware.
You can't say high class restaurants are going to go under because McDonalds also serves food and is much cheaper. It's the same with handheld vs mobile gaming.
@@kaptinbarfbeerd1317 Mobile gaming has absolutely devastated the handheld gaming market- that is undeniable, even if one doesn't necessarily replace the other.
If mobile game companies were willing to make fully-fledged games you bet your ass handhelds would be obsolete..
@@hobosorcerer The problem is, very few mobile gamers are willing to pay anything for games so the idea of them selling "fully-fledged games" is a non-starter. I remember when the 3DS was off to a rocky start, Capcom started selling Ace Attorney games for the iPhone. Someone in the gaming media ask them if they would develop new Ace Attorneys for phones and they said "no." Because most iPhone users refused to play more than $3 for a game, they were only planning on porting over the DS games, but there was no way they could even break even developing new games.

It's a mobile game, if you want a full fledged Mario kart, just play the eight entry. This is made specifically to appeal to people without dedicated systems.

It might be free, but this sort of system requires a time investment and also having to contend with the merciless RNG gods, the only way to bypass this is by coughing up cash anyways.
Sides you didn't pay 300$ specifically for MK, you paid that for a system which runs many different games.
Arlo, will you review TEAM SONIC RACING?
Christian Lakhan I have it on my shelf but haven’t opened it yet in case it’s not worth keeping and I can still return it 😖
I'm in the beta. It feels like pure gambling. Races are short and this induces a more random outcome; your loadout (driver, kart & glider) is hugely influential to race outcomes; if your need stars to unlock more cups, you need higher scores and thus a better loadout, obtainable only if you buy emeralds to "pull" items from the pipe (aka this game's lootbox mechanic to obtain drivers, carts & gliders).
I've become unable to get more stars and unlock more cups. I'm also frustarted that I can't master certain races (aka 5 stars) because I don't have optimal loadouts. So the game is basically over for me. I won't be playing this when it goes gold.
Beta tester here:
I don't think gacha mechanics are necessarily a bad thing. Azur Lane, for example, is a gacha game but the devs are super consumer-friendly, so it can work of executed properly. MKT's main issue is that there isn't any good way of consistently earning emeralds on a day-to-day basis. The main way to earn them is by collecting stars from the cups, but those are a finite resource. Having some kind of daily emerald earning process would also negate the need for the stamina mechanic, which is just plain annoying.
You get bonus stamina every time you raise your player level, which creates an illusion of getting more stamina than you actually get, but leveling up becomes harder over time so that bonus will eventually diminish.
The main game mode is very obviously not designed for real-time multiplayer, so any hope they'll add it on release is false. They could add a separate mode for real time multiplayer, but since betas are usually feature freezes I would expect such a mode on initial release.
But the biggest potential issue of Mario Kart Tour is the most horrible, awful thing imaginable: Blue Shell Frenzies. That shit's terrifying to behold.
Overall, the game has potential, but it also has issues. We beta testers have been given surveys to fill out, and I encourage everyone else with beta access to take full advantage of the opportunity to make your voices heard.
Could you clarify when you say the Stars earned from cups are a finite resource? Does that mean you only get them by racing once, and then you can’t get them any more. Does this mean you have a limited amount of gems you can earn by playing the game?
@@jasonjungreis203 Each course in each cup has up to 5 stars that can be earned by achieving a high enough score. Stars can also be earned from challenges, but those are much harder to come by.
@Aethix. Can you earn unlimited stars from challenges, or is that limited? Does this mean gems are limited?
@@jasonjungreis203 Challenges seem to be added at a slow rate. There are currently two challenge cards, one of which is set to expire at the end of the beta and one that will unlock in a few days. The first challenge card offers 36 stars for the challenges, and gives a reward of 10 emeralds for clearing all 9 nine challenges. There is also a "regular" card that offers 50 emeralds for completing all the challenges and no stars. Every 10 stars you earn gives you 5 gems and some other bonus. 5 emeralds gives you 1 draw for a random kart, driver, or racer. You can also earn 5-10 emeralds every few days through log-in bonuses.
So yeah, emeralds are pretty limited. And earning stars from some courses is hard without having the right karts or drivers, which can mostly only be earned from the gacha.
@Aethix Yea I could see how you could find an issue with that. Do you think it’s still possible to get almost the full experience without paying and waiting a LONG time for the meter? Or do you pretty much have to pay to get all the Kart parts. Because I know while fire emblem hero’s, for example, is technically a gacha game, a lot of people say they haven’t had to pay at all.
I'm not disagreeing or disrespecting your stance, but Gacha is very different from loot boxes in my personal opinion. Gachas are like toy machines where they drop similar content, with "special editions" and the like to garner interest in buying (in fact, that's exactly where the name derives from.) This usually comes with the ability to "buy out" a gacha, such as hitting guarantees or having higher rates than normal. Loot Boxes on the other hand don't give out the same level of content. You can get pretty basic things like icons or voice lines/win quotes, or things you most want like skins or emotes. Best case is that there are fail safes to get to the higher end content (like currency or a gacha like "no duplicate" system.) But this doesn't always occur.
Gachas always give you something you're technically looking for, just not all of them are as good as each other. Loot Boxes give you things you aren't exactly looking for in the chase of getting things you do want. Which are different from Loot Crates as well, which are a like a combination of the two forms (always giving you things of the same content, but without the guarantees or similar things.) Gachas, imo, are much better than Loot Boxes. But _SHOULD NOT_ be used in paid games. None of them should be. If your paid game needs micro transactions, make people be able to buy them out right. You don't need to manipulate players to give you money if they already bought your game, because they're already willing to give you money for the game.
I'm in the beta myself and I will say it's not as bad as you think. The only thing I would change is the stamina meter. The mechanics are solid and I've actually had a lot of fun with it, and trust me I'm a hardcore MarioKart player if the controls sucked I would say so.
im also in the beta, if this game releases with a stamina meter, i will not be playing it. i absolutely hate stamina systems. Im hoping everything will be limited to cosmetics and the gacha mechanic, and hoping the rarer characters arent faster.
Watch the video get taken down for the thumbnail and pictures which TECHNICALLY are not supposed to be up but, Were The Internet and We Don't Care! 😃🖒
I haven't watched through the video all the way yet, but I've been invited to play it, and it definitely isn't a traditional Mario kart game, but it's definitely fun, there's a few flaws I'd say but it has potential
(Leaving comments on topics below)
1. The driving is quite smooth, my only issue is that it has a transition period between turning and going straight again after you let go, which feels like your drifting a little bit in a direction you don't want to go. Other than that, the driving is just holding your finger on the screen and sliding left and right on the screen, there is still drifting like any other Mario kart game once you drift long enough. Think automatic from Wii
2. I don't have much to say about the stamina, it's just a little annoying. You use a heart to enter a race and you have 5, so each refresh of your heart's will last you about 15 mins but you get a refresh quite frequently, I don't know the exact timing on it.
Agreed, also I don't get why people complain about portrait mode, like seriously the game plays the same even if it's on landscape mode. I also don't get why people are complaining about Microtransactions, considering there aren't any in the beta
@@stormbreak7003 on portrait mode. I think it benefits the game, personally it makes it easier to whip out the game and play it in short bursts or while waiting for something.
@@Rampage10320 yeah holding a phone horizontal in one hand would make it hard to reach the other side of the screen to turn.
I've been playing with a combination of swiping and the gyro controls, with manual drift on. Not only does it give tighter handling when steering, but the two actually work so well that drifting is more broken than the DS.
For example, you can start a right hand drift, and then swipe left to go straight forward, and then tilt left to steer a fair amount left while still drifting right. Essentially, if you know the course well, and you know the next few turns, you can take advantage of the drifting to get an ultra turbo after the last turn.
It's broken and I love it.
@@AniMariBro thanks for this, I'll have to try it out
I'll tell you right now, currently the game is not at all pay to win. Character stats (or more like stat) go up as you race, and the stat is represented just by one number that gives you a bonus to your score when you start the race. If you play well you can earn that score back, or if you just keep racing with that character it'll level up as you play. There are also some items you can buy with coins you get from racing to do a fast level up.

Yeah I love Mario Kart but I have absolutely 0 interest in this game
Yes... especially when you have to not only buy a smartphone but an *_iPhone_* smartphone at that in order to play the _Mario Kart Tour_ mobile video game! 😑😑😑
Honestly, I'm not too worried about the "lootboxes" in a Nintendo mobile game, based on past experience. In Animal Crossing Pocket camp, you constantly get free fortune cookies and the prizes are in no way necessary to the game, nor do they give you any sort of advantage. They just give you something new to sell or put in your camp or trade to get snacks for your campers. I trust Nintendo to do these sorts of things correctly and not in a way that becomes addictive or requires constant micro-purchases with free money. I guess we'll see if they continue this good track record in MKT.
If they really did the whole loot boxes thing properly then Animal Crossing mobile and Fire Emblem mobile wouldn't be facing bans in Belgium.
@@Tim-007 With all due respect, that is an appeal to authority fallacy. I don't recognize the Belgian government, courts, or citizens as a moral, legal, or even technical authority in any way. I can't speak to Fire Emblem, as I haven't played that in many years. I can only speak to Animal Crossing Pocket Camp, as I've played it on a nearly daily basis since the day it came out. And there is nothing in that game that you cannot acquire through normal gameplay without paying a single penny, and frankly, no compelling reason to acquire more fortune cookies at all, beyond the half-dozen or more that you are given daily for free through normal play.
@@MarsupialGamer Well apparently Nintendo does take that ruling quite seriously. So seriously in fact that instead of just fixing whatever it may be that got Belgian governor's so pissed off they decided to just pull the plug out of those games in Belgium and to not release any future mobile games in that country that might piss those governor's off.
@@Tim-007 EDIT: I reworded this response to be a bit less snarky, without changing my original meaning:
Indeed. As the owner of a game development company myself, I might be tempted to do the same as Nintendo, if faced with those prospects in certain countries. I'd be very reluctant to comply if a foreign government required, for example, that I censor my original work in a way that I felt would be compromising or damaging to the product in some way.
@@MarsupialGamer Yeah cause who cares about the rules and whatever consequences not following those rules may have right? Nintendo sure doesn't which is why they're making their inability to follow the rules of a country the problem of their customers, some of whom have spent a pretty penny on the games that are now on the chopping block. Oh well guess Belgium is getting an early taste of the inevitable so that's at least something.
"So how bad could it be?"
*Arlo has negative thoughts on a Nintendo product*
"Sweet mother of Myamoto!" O.O
"Wait and see?"
Belgium has already made up their minds and they said "No more freemium games!"
And it's very notable that Dragalia Lost, built around loot boxes, didn't release in Europe, at all.
Gizensha Fox If only more people bought Super Mario Run, but $10 was apparently too expensive.
@@rho-starmkl4483 Mobile gaming was a race to the bottom for so long, it's basically only digital implementations of board games that can get away with charging more than $0.79 as a one off price now. I do wonder if Mario Run would have done better as a series of smaller price gates every x levels, than a singular price after four levels, though.
I actually got invited and i will tell you.....it is nowhere near a mario kart experience, the simplicity of it is its major flaw.
But perfect for a mobile gamer I'm sure. I can't see why anyone who primarily games on PC or console would care about MKT.
"It wants you to spend and spend and spend."
Any product today.
you're missing the point. It's not about products wanting you to spend money, it's about whether that purchase is a payment that gives you ownership of what you've bought.
Instead of enticing you to throw your money into the aether and hope maybe youll get something back
Its not true. Its extremely generous, its not as heavy as people say! Not at all. Keep in mind most people complaining haven't played it. Give it time
@@vanilla8956 How does the product make money without it?
@@backup368 Without what? Microtransactions? Games like Mario odyssey are bulk purchases and it's not like that didn't make money
@@vanilla8956 The mobile game market isn't big on one-off purchases, to be fair. Most of them cost up to £3-4 at most and a lot of those are free. Mario Odyssey was a console game (or handheld, whichever works); people expected the price and were more willing to pay. I'm not saying the gacha system is good but the mobile and console markets can't really be compared with their price.
As someone who's part of the beta, I find the gameplay to be genuinely fun, I just think they should tone it down with the just straight up benefits of paying, not only because duh, but also because it limits choosing stuff like characters just for self expression
Edit: I should mention, how it works is that certain characters, karts and gliders will give you benefits depending on which track you're playing on. It's also often things like on a koopa-themed track, playing as koopa troopa will give you the benefits
guys, quick, watch before it's gone due to nintendo cutting it down :P
Nintendo saying they don't want to take too much money from any one consumer is hilarious PR.
They keep their games at full price as long as possible. They artificially inflate demand to keep their products higher priced by limiting supply. They charge ridiculously high prices for any extra accessories.
Nintendo is a business that tries to control their image, like most businesses do. It's all fluff.
"Nintendo seems to have a.....soul" - Arlo 2019
Every mobile game developer says they don't want to exploit too much money off one person but that's truly how it works. I like Nintendo but I don't trust them on that one.
That statement from Nintendo regarding mobile games was made under prior leadership.
Under Iwata, they swore they won't ever make mobile games.
Just something to think about.
Didn't Iwata tell Gamefreak to make Pokemon Go though while in the hospital?
I think is hard for a free game, specially mobile, to go out of the "gatcha route". Specially how having a very low stamina and paying real money to continuing play isn't a good way to do anymore, even if MKTour has a stamina I do bet will be generous, at least seeing how FEH handle the stamina bar nowadays.
I'm okay with gatcha mechanics in free games, and because is also fun doing it sometimes XD Buuuut I would prefer if MKTour had Kart parts as the gatcha and you can unlock the characters in other way, kinda similar to how Tales of Links and that Disidia Mobile game do when the gatcha is for equips only and you can get all the characters without summoning for them.
Easy Fix: Play Mario Kart 8
I'm in the beta, if anyone has questions feel free to ask!
Though gyro tilting IS an option. I dont use it though cuz sliding is more responsive.
I will say this, VERY pay to win
Is Wario in the game?
@@jackgarcia5926 yes, the game has 30 characters, but Wario is "rare" so it might be a while before you pull him if you're not throwing a lot of money at the game. There are characters earned from gameplay but they're commons, and not all racers are balanced. Rarer they are, the better skills they have and the more points they're worth. (There is an ultra rare, so there are characters better than wario)
Oh, but if you're buying you wont get duplicates until you reset the pool. There are 100 possible things to get (racers, cars, gliders), once you get one it wont appear again until you get all 100 or you press the "reset" button. Getting the same thing again will level said thing up awarding more points for the races you use it
I really hope they have live multiplayer battles. I don't see why they couldn't do it. Dragalia Lost is all live co-op and works really well. That was codeveloped by Cygames though...
Like you said with lootboxes, even if they are generous, the core concept is still manipulation/addiction. The same goes for the energy system; it's made to build up a habit to play the game, a manipulation tactic to create addiction. It doesn't matter if it's generous, the core concept is still there.
I think saying that nintendo doesn't want to exploit people is incredibly naive. They of course don't want to ruin their reputation, but they've been testing the waters with these mobile games. If they can get away with it, there's no reason to believe that nintendo will do what is best for their bottom dollar, as any large company would.
I agree and feel the same way, I love my Nintendo systems but they are greedy just like any other major company. Otherwise they wouldn't be putting their games on mobile to begin with rather than other consoles and pc.
The waiting, the repeating courses, the difficulty spikes, the ridiculously low RNG (1% of an ultra rare, .3 if you want someone specific), and the boosts for specific characters, karts, and gliders per level, and did I mention the WAITING, all bring the experience down.
If there's any questions from anyone, I'd be happy to answer more
The waiting is singlehandedly the worst thing in the game. Don't want to wait? Use Emeralds. Don't have Emeralds? Just buy more... oh wait, you can't buy more in the beta! Guess you'll have race in order to level up to earn more Hearts or earn Grand Stars to earn some Emeralds! Oh right, can't do those things either, since you need Hearts to race!
@@KayFiOS Finish a cup? The next one's under construction.
@@SlimJimGames It's been 4 HOURS! Why is the game doing this?!
People are overhyping and exaggerating that micro transaction stuff way too much.
You constantly get free emeralds, racers, karts, gliders and hearts.
The gacha gives you the spotlight items guaranteed after a certain amount of pulls.
And since the game is CPU based, the boosts don't matter.
You also don't need the better characters or karts to win because of the racing skill required.
It is definitely not pay to win.
The problems with mario run were:
- price above 5.-
- too few levels
- constant onliner connexion required
That's why I didn't buy it personnaly.
AzertyGames agreed, was not worth the $9.99 price tag. And I bought it...
The actual game looks great if you ask me... but the micro transactions are miserable and could single handily ruin the game
Super Mario Run: 10$, no microtransactions
EVERYONE COMPLAINTS
Mario Kart Tour: free with microtransactions
EVERYONE COMPLAINTS
Yeah Nintendo can't make everyone happy :/
Who cares, just dont play it.
We already have a mobile Mario Kart, I wasn't interested in this mobile game before and I'm not interested in it now.
I'm sad that the game has been revealed to need a REQUIRED internet connection...
...Please let this micro-transaction thing for Mario Kart not fully come to pass.
From somebody who plays FE: Heroes daily I can say that it has micro-transactions too--but honestly it's not a game I've minded putting a few bucks in to here and there because it feels like the developers are constantly working at making Heroes more enjoyable with a surprisingly fast growing variety of different forms of content.
Also the whole 'stamina' thing they may even do away with because the game practically gives away free stamina restore items for every ant you step on, which is admittingly, hilariously satisfying. The game's main currency which you can spend real money on is also gifted to players at a considerable rate. On a few occasions they've even just given players 20$ worth of the in-game currency just for free for logging in to the game.
So the air around Heroes feels more gratuitous towards its dedicated player-base, so it's payment aspects aren't terribly intrusive--mostly in part to its audience being older and knowing more about restraint... Something like Mario though, which is made to appeal to a much wider demographic--especially younger children? I do agree--It's worrisome seeing it.
Nintendo: don’t share the game

@@matheusbernmias6680 I think it's in development after Mario Kart 8/Mario Kart 8 Deluxe but We won't know when Nintendo will drop it
I actually don't believe Nintendo's generosity will last. Been a fan of them for my entire life, and just looking at the practices you can see it's changing. Definitely slower than other companies for sure, and they're doing their best to hold out, but I don't think it'll last. It's a bummer.

I've been playing the beta and I vastly prefer the gyro to touch controls
when i first heard about it i was shocked but now i don't care about the gatcha in the game anymore because it's anyway just a singleplayer game.
If they are equally generous with their gatchas like in fire emblem, then you never have to pay anything.
But I agree that all free 2 play mobile games have some mean psycho tricks to make their money
After playing the beta for a dew days i have to so say that the whole hearts and gems and loot crate type of thing ks not a big deal at all. It never interfered with me personally playing. I mever ran out of hearts even playing for an hour. The gems are really easy to get making the loot actually free which i really appreciated. Some characters do have some advantages but none are "OP". Take all this for what you will
It's great to hear your voice again!

I've actually been enjoying it, I'm glad I was chosen; something to add top my gaming resume I suppose. The only problem I have is the frame rate issues.
That's Patreon's old logo.
Honestly, the "stamina" mechanic is these mobile games just needs to DIE. I don't think that is EVER acceptable. "Hey, come play our game! What's that? You say it's SUPER fun and you want to play it for hours? WEEEELLLL... In that case, how about we exploit your desire to play by FORCING you to pay up for more game time, otherwise be forced to be unable to play!?" Like, I obviously can't speak for anyone but myself, but when I find myself in that situation, I just close the game and never go back to it. Not because I now suddenly hate the game and everything it stands for, but because, "Well, out of stamina for the day, guess I'd better play something else. Oh hey, this other game is super fun and DOESN'T limit how much play time I have without forcing me to miss my next rent payment! Why don't I just play this much better game instead of wasting my time on that other one that forces me to stop having fun after a set period of time?"
Seriously though, count the monetization models.
1. Stamina. (Pay for more play time)
2. Loot boxes. (Potentially P2W crap)
3. One "regular" currency and one "premium" currency. (Presumably for the gacha, but likely used for other things as well. And who knows, maybe you can buy lump sums of regular currency for real money, too. I've seen that in plenty of mobile games)
I'll definitely download it when it drops, but depending on how overtly greedy it is, I might just default to bringing my Switch and MK8Deluxe with me everywhere instead.
Stamina? I'm already out.
It refills so quickly that I've never run into a situation where I needed to wait for stamina to come back- I generally close the app before I even run out and only discovered that it had stamina because I got the notification that my hearts were full. I was more bothered by having to wait for the new cup to open after completing the previous cup, but even that was only about 10 minutes.
The mom's are gonna spend so much on stamina for this game
If it’s a gacha game, so

I wouldn't worry at all about the stamina. Nintendo is EXTREMELY generous with all that stuff in their mobile games. I play Dragalia Lost regularly and its by far the most generous gotcha game out there. And it keeps getting even more generous. They know how to make people happy and still rake in a TON of cash.

Nintendo announced 3 days ago that their mobile games containing gacha elements, namely Animal Crossing Pocket Camp and Fire Emblem Heroes, won't be available anymore in Belgium soonish. Due to the lootbox ban. And considering Mario Kart Tour is also going to have gacha, it's safe to assume it won't be released in Belgium either. I'm sure you can find Nintendo's statement on the matter with a quick Google search.
Noo! That can't be possible :(
You can circumvent this by changing the region info on your Nintendo account IIRC
Was kinda skeptical at the beginning
And I wasn’t wrong for what I thought since this is a free mobile game, it’s always gonna have microtrabsactions
I probably won't bother playing it. I'm just over most mobile games. They're almost all cash grabby (I can't get behind evil exploitative business practices) and I'm not in the mood for them ever while out and about. Plus the good ones that do exist it's just...I don't feel like playing games on a phone screen anymore lol. I most likely won't play Mario kart Tour for more than an hour...
*MARIO KART 9?!? Or better yet NINTENDO KART?!?*
Why are console gamers meddling in mobile games they don't intend spending money on, or even playing? It's a business model that works for that format and it's what mobile gamers are accustomed to so why force their ideals? Nintendo has already tried the full priced approach and it wasn't as effective. The mobile gaming psychographic is, are a bunch of cheapskates that end up paying more. Don't expect Nintendo's mobile games to have the same mileage/features as their console counterparts since they're intended for an audience with different habits/attitudes on games. Pay to win is evil but if they want that kind of thing and continue to patronize it, why spend energy trying to change the landscape? It's a lost cause since it's already in their "DNA". If they want Nintendo to succeed, they should let Nintendo try first before boycott mongering on the game. Nintendo's at their best when they rise up from failure.
