We use Samsara, so we do ever on our phones. We are required by our Co. to do a pre-trip which you have to do it in the DVIR which includes taking pic of the truck and trailer. Then you have to certify it. Then they require a post- trip so that the mechanics can see it on their computer and get the repairs done before that truck and trailer go’s out on the road again. Everything go’s through the Samsara system.
John - the word "trip" is not defined in the regs. For purposes of a required timeframe, when does a "pre-trip inspection" HAVE to be done? Once a ELD shift? Once a 24 hour day? If *I* define a "trip" as "this load picks up at 8am Monday and delivers at 5pm Wednesday" that's ONE trip. Or is it three because it's three calendar days? Or maybe it could be ONE trip if I run split sleeper logs the whole distance and never actually finish a "shift".
Gets trickier with cross-border…. We must have a filled pretrip, so if in the US for 10 days, we need to have that recorded so, when asked in Canada, for the last 14 days of pretrip, we can show it. I actually did nit know about the posttrip requirement until recently 😮, but you are saying that as long as we do a post trip in the US, and there are no issues with the rig, we do not have to fill a form?
There are many tricky situations that need careful approaches. You should join TruckingWins.com, there is a full training about pre-trip inspections and ELDs.
@@TruckingWins I wish. I went to take a look but as a tiny (1 person/1truck/trailer) niche market carrier, it would unfortunately be too costly when added to all the other monthly expenses. It is a great thing you are doing though. Thank you for keeping us informed.
