Hands down by far the best pre-game show of all time! Funny thing about it was it was only a half hour long and they packed in everything you needed to know in those 30 minute! My father would always tell me to come get him when the Greek was on!
Not just Ray Rice, but several other players (who I couldn't even mention) had issues with domestic violence, as well as Adrian Peterson's child abuse case in 2014.
I believe this was the first day the "pots and pans" theme was used. For the first 3 or so weeks of 1986, CBS used the same theme they'd used from 1981-1985.
Wow those days of football were amazing. I use to enjoy cbs going around the league when I was a kid. I thought it was so exciting and fun. brings back ton of great memories growing up in the 80's. what a decade.
**tear rolling down cheek**....ah childhood memories. My dad, brothers and I would watch every Sunday at 12:30. We were an NFC family (they were Giants fans, and me the lone Cowboys fan.
Wow. It was just me and my dad. He being the Giants fan and me being the Cowboys fan. Always watched CBS first. NBC game during commercials. Now I have Sunday Ticket. Great memories though. This is my favorite theme. CBS should go back to it.
The NFL TV coverage back in the 80's when I grew up was a whole lot better than it is now. No constant "bottom line" scrolls with scores or fantasy football updates. No "Sunday Ticket" as of yet, whatever part of the country you lived in is what you got that week & since I lived in the DC area since my birth in '81, my parents TV's were locked on channel 9 WDVM (Now WUSA) for the NFL Today or Channel 4 WRC for NFL Live, and then at 1 for the early games. I wish CBS could go back in time for their halftime and postgame shows when they update the scores and highlights. Red for AFC games, Blue for NFC games and either Green, or Silver for Interconference games.
***** On NFL Sundays in DC, you either watch the Redskins or Ravens 80 percent of the time, same goes for Baltimore. The markets overlap. There is a Ravens bar in Glover Park and a Skins one in Fells Point. That is about all there will be because most people would rather watch the games at home.
I remember being a kid growing up in Colorado and being a Raiders fan, it was a treat when I was able to watch the Raiders. It either had to be when Denver didn't play at the same time or CBS would cover an inter-conference game (which, sadly, also had to happen when the Broncos weren't playing). And agree, seeing these would make football so much more fun for today's fan.
+rockvilleraven Yep at times when the skins were on channel 9 & now channel 5 and the Ravens had a game start at 1pm and either team was at home, like you said, more times than not, since the 75-mile radius overlap, either team would be blacked out & have to listen to the Ravens game on the radio. I wish we could be granted the same policies that are in place in New York City for the Jets and Giants & in the San Francisco/Oakland bay area for the Raiders and Forty Niners. Also, up thru 1983, the Colts used to kickoff their home games games at Memorial Stadium at 2pm. I wish the NFL would bring back the 2pm kickoffs, especially in the central time zone and let the Ravens do their home opener starting at 2pm
At least there is the NFL Sunday Ticket for out of market Sunday Afternoon games. Of course, one who have to subscribe to the DirecTV satellite system. 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
This is wonderful!! Back in the today when the networks only had (and needed) 30 minutes to air a pregame show as opposed to the hour long nonsense that "The NFL Today" is now.
No, it's more like Bob Costas was the Brent Musberger of NBC. The two competed against each other as pregame hosts back in the late '80s where CBS's The NFL Today was well ahead of NBC's NFL Live in the ratings.
What a much better time in everything!!!!! RIP jimmy the Greek Snyder who was a fan of my team that's been Robbed from me!!!! Still praying for the miracle ta prevent!!!🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹🐘🐼🐬🐳🐕🐖🐄🐅🐻
Back in the day CBS and NBC had a 3:30pm edition of their pre game show for the 4:00pm kickoff games happening with showing highlights from the early games probably in progress or going final
bring back the theme music please CBS!!!! the Music back then got you motivated to watch. The stuff that they play now has nothing on the theme between the 70s and 80s.
Gee Brent, the Saints "bumpy start" - are you serious? The following year we went 12-3 and you sure became a Saint fan over the course of the '87 season. Still love you, man, but geez...give us a break! Yes, I know this is 2015 but we were a team on fire in 1987 with Bobby Hebert and company...
No coincidence that Marino's best teams after 1985 were in 1990 and 1992. They Dolphins defense finished 4th and 11th in points allowed. Under Shula, the only other time the were 11th or better was 1995. So yeah, peak Marino was absolutely wasted.
Michael Pelak Yeah man I agree Back then " less was more" - We got simple coverage with great structure of the NFL football. We knew Sunday's it was CBS and NBC 30 minute pre-game shows with both networks would alternate each weekend of which network would carry the featured double-header games and every team played on Sunday except the featured Monday night game ' And then we would look forward to the halftime highlights from Sunday's games on MNF." - Their was a captivating mystique they of the way the NFL packaged their product - Today with the over the top saturation and somehow you don't feel satisfied AS compared back then, less games on tv. BUT somehow it was fulfilling - Remember the tv blackout rule if your home team did not sellout the stadium their would be no local game coverage of your team. I guess the word we're looking for is " simplicity" and I guess that's why it was more enjoyable - Today it's complicated and more In Your Face and not as enjoyable waiting for those Sundays and Monday's as we did back then " It Was Special Time For Sure."
I remember this I was a Cowboys' fan and that was when they started going downhill does anyone know what happened to Irv Cross????!!!!!!......do y'all know that Jimmy "the Greek" was friends with Dean Martin back in Steubenville Ohio????!!!.... I don't know when in September of '86 that aired but I had turned 17 a junior in high school great eh????!!!!!!!
NFL intros were great back then. In fact, the best ever. There is a reason why so many of those intros are on RUclips today.
Hands down by far the best pre-game show of all time! Funny thing about it was it was only a half hour long and they packed in everything you needed to know in those 30 minute! My father would always tell me to come get him when the Greek was on!
The good old days.
RIP NFL 1920-2000
Kim Martin No, the NFL's still good; in fact, many people believe that the NFL is actually better today than it was many years ago.
EricEbac22 The NFL is still the best BUT we have major issues to fix or it will sink fast.
He won't resign. The NFL make a ton of money thanks to him.
Kim Martin Rich people care about getting richer.
Not just Ray Rice, but several other players (who I couldn't even mention) had issues with domestic violence, as well as Adrian Peterson's child abuse case in 2014.
Brent Musberger you are looking live and the pots and pans theme on CBS remember it like it was yesterday.
I believe this was the first day the "pots and pans" theme was used. For the first 3 or so weeks of 1986, CBS used the same theme they'd used from 1981-1985.
It was all so simple but the product was better i miss those days of football
I always loved this show, especially Jimmy "The Greek" Snyder. 30 minutes was always better than an hour to talk about football.
Wow those days of football were amazing. I use to enjoy cbs going around the league when I was a kid. I thought it was so exciting and fun. brings back ton of great memories growing up in the 80's. what a decade.

I was the lone Rams fan in a home that otherwise housed Dallas backers. The '70s and '80s were quite the times in my life as a pro football fan.
I wasn't even watching back then (let's be fair, I was four when this aired) but this just seems more interesting than the NFL today.
Two of the greatest football uniforms ever..thank god the Rams could be going back to the blue & yellow..I call them "The Dickersons"
Greatest studio show intro of all time
When football was still football!!
@Karl M hes a trump supporter
I was 14 years old in 86 & miss this nfl today intro

it is not nonsense I like those guys Bill Cowher however could smile more
Can you say, 2 hour pre-game shows each and every week?
They are needed because they bring in the money for them to be that long.
The LA Rams, same as they were in the 80s. Bring the bright yellow back guys.
drakg002
No...
I wish CBS would go back to this theme song for "The NFL Today".
This is what I remember! Classic. I was 5 when this aired.
Great to hear the voice of Don Robertson and that theme music! thanks for the upload
You are looking live!,wow,Brent Mustberger
No, it's more like Bob Costas was the Brent Musberger of NBC. The two competed against each other as pregame hosts back in the late '80s where CBS's The NFL Today was well ahead of NBC's NFL Live in the ratings.
I like both Bob Costas and Brent Musburger those are good men wonder if Brent will go to AJ McCarron and Katherine Webb's wedding????!!!!!!
Costas could not carry Musberger's water! Brent was the best ever!
I remember those days "what a great society to live in ",brent musberger, jimmy the greek, irv cross,oj simpson .
That's the game where Ditka got into it with a Bengals fan outside the locker room
What a much better time in everything!!!!! RIP jimmy the Greek Snyder who was a fan of my team that's been Robbed from me!!!! Still praying for the miracle ta prevent!!!🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹🐘🐼🐬🐳🐕🐖🐄🐅🐻

+Harry Mudd Agreed. I hear the 80s NFL Today intro music and I'm fired up. Same for the old NBC intros.
I second that!
Best thing I've seen all year
RIP Jimmy
"Hey, fellas!" "Are you ready for some football!?" 🏈 "yes, it's Monday night!" 🌃 "let's go!"
We watched the 49ers/Dolphins game that day out in Central California. 49ers kicked Miami's butt again.
Marino never figured out George Seifert's schemes
Being a lifelong Falcons fan we watched more CBS than NBC since they had the NFC package back then. Good memories!
🟣 "Skol Vikings!" 🏈 "Yeah!"
Rest In Peace Irv Cross
"Yeah!"

how would he know they wouldn't suck again in '87? And how many of those wins were from the scrub team?
2:07 I would love to see Taco Bell use this retro logo to promote the Ready Player One movie this march.
"Woo!"
This was the first regular season the Bears played at Cincinnati since 1934. The Bears beat the Bengals, 44-7.
Rumor has it, Pete Rose had money on the Reds in 1934
The Dolphins defense always sucked with Marino there. He'd put up 30, and they'd give up 35.
No coincidence that Marino's best teams after 1985 were in 1990 and 1992. They Dolphins defense finished 4th and 11th in points allowed. Under Shula, the only other time the were 11th or better was 1995. So yeah, peak Marino was absolutely wasted.
My favorite pre game show ever! 30 minutes of Musberger, Cross, and the Greek. Nowadays, 2 hours of boring crap.

@Karl M amen
Back when 5 bucks went a long way
I take it you're referencing the late Don Robertson's plug for Taco Bell on the NFL Today sponsor billboard, for one.
My Bears destroyed the bengals that day boy I miss the old Bears

I bet that Niners-Dolphins game was a good one. I'll have to see if someone has posted it.
And I just realized I already commented on this clip LOL
What’s so funny?
@@TL2354 That I commented on this clip a while before I commented right there. Read my comment...
Brent Musberger was the Bob Costas of CBS!
what are you smoking?? wtf
You really got it wrong sir!
I still love 80's CG.
The giants would go on to defeat the broncos in the super bowl.
I remember this I was a Cowboys' fan and that was when they started going downhill does anyone know what happened to Irv Cross????!!!!!!......do y'all know that Jimmy "the Greek" was friends with Dean Martin back in Steubenville Ohio????!!!.... Irv left CBS in 1994 and was an athletic director at a couple of colleges. He was also CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Minnesota.
RIP Irv Cross
I like KCBS-TV.
The national football league before the corporate world took it all over,,
And no fantasy football either,,
Just plain ol football
RIP Sam Wyche
Taco Bell promos, incredibly lazy even then
Why did they kill the nfl!!!!
