NFL on CBS (1998) Full and Clean Theme

- Here's a little pre-Super Bowl 50 present to those of you who enjoy my postings here on RUclips.
In 1992, CBS tabbed Frankie Vinci to compose a new theme in advance of the network's coverage of Super Bowl XXVI. That original theme would last until the end of CBS' association with covering NFC football in the winter of 1994.
When CBS got the rights to AFC coverage in 1998, Vinci updated his classic melody with a bolder, brassier feel. Hence the theme you hear here.
For whatever reason, this version of the theme only lasted for 1 season. Vinci's melody was reorchestrated twice more in 1999 and again in the early 2000s before giving way to E.S. Posthumus' "Posthumus Zone" which has been the network's football anthem since 2003.
Personally, this theme screams football and drama to me. Your mileage may vary. I assure you, you will NOT find a clearer version of this theme unless you somehow get it off of composer Frankie Vinci (incidentally, if by chance he is finding this video, it's an awesome theme, sir).
No challenge to ownership is implied.
This should still be the NFL on CBS Theme.
No
Yes
The current theme they use is absolutely epic.
This theme gives me chills
Nope
The first 20 seconds are epic. The nostalgia is amazing.
Tears, man. I must be gay for nfl
Totally agree bro
BRING THIS BACK. Even if just for a few games.
I like their current theme, but this was just epic. It just screams "BIG GAME!"
CBS still has the best college football music.
When you heard this score come on the TV set on Sunday morning, you _knew_ it was time for football!
The CBS college football theme actually made its debut during the intro for Super Bowl XXI between the Broncos and Giants.
they should bring this theme back for the Thanksgiving game that CBS airs since Thanksgiving games are all about retro and nostalgia
@@MrDariusJWilliams it's going to be so weird hearing that theme for Big Ten games. I'm a Michigan fan, went to a Big Ten school, and currently work at another Big Ten school lol. I always associate Big Ten with the old school ABC theme
@skippythealien9627 Never got into college football as much as the NFL, but I live in (prior) PAC-12 country (Seattle). I just recently heard about CBS televising B1G games. I feel like CBS should televise marquee college football games across different conferences, but I know that the NCAA and college football work differently than the NFL.
How do you feel about the recent wave of realignment? I'm not a fan of it at all, but I know it's about money.
One of the NFL Themes of all time.
*CBS should still be using this theme.*
Goosebumps personified in those opening seconds
Great theme. I wish CBS still use it.
Nah the current theme is fire
This one was still too NFC-Centric. It’s next two remixes were too. That was why they switched to the new one in 2003.
@@TheNutshaqno it’s not
@@williamkanejr3233this theme actually sounds cbs centric the current theme is just a ripoff of the fox theme
@@blobulous3500 No it isn't. Get outta here with that. It's not even close. They sound literally NOTHING alike.
CBS themes have been well done going back to the 80s, I love the current theme a lot but this one is just so epic as well.
this was when you needed to pay perview the other games before nfl sunday ticket.
I prefer this one just slightly more than the current one. I wish they could somehow use both. (maybe one for each half)
The CBS baseball theme was way better than that Fox or TBS crap!
I thought the CBS Baseball theme was way better. Too bad, CBS only televised MLB for four years, 1990-1993. ruclips.net/video/95kTST5KtLw/видео.html
1:28 "The NFL on CBS is brought to you by..."
You meant sponsored
Edge pro gel … save your skin 😂
NASDAQ
Pontiac. We are driving excitement
Bud Light. For the great taste that won’t fill you up and never let you down, make it a Bud Light.
This theme is hella nostalgic
The current CBS theme is good, but this is my favorite sports theme of all time.
I would love cbs to bring back this version in a current theme
rich cerasale And bring back Greg Gumbel-- the best voice in the history of sports broadcasting-- with it.
They can bring in Greg & get rid of Beth
I agree. I can see it. 2019 the 10-4 Bears vs the 10-4 L.A. Chargers @ Soldier Field in week 16. With a Bears win and a Packers loss, the Bears will win their 1st division title since 2010, and with a Chargers win they clinch a wild card spot with the AFC West still up for grabs between the Chargers and Chiefs.
James Haynes I thought Greg was still announcing.
James Haynes Greg’s still there, he’s just not on the #1 team anymore
I love it. gives me glory chills.
Me too
This reminds me of those great 49er SuperBowl runs in the 80s and 90s. Love that era of the game!!!
OMG I loved this theme..it got you so hyped.
They need to bring this theme back cause it got me crunk to watch the game on Sunday
0:21 As big games go, this one is huge. Welcome to Ralph Wilson Stadium in Buffalo where the New York Jets take on the Buffalo Bills. Will the race for the AFC East title be decided today? If the Jets win they claim their first ever AFC East crown; if the Bills win they claim a playoff berth and we wait another week to decide a division champion.
Why did CBS only use this version for one year? In 1999, they started using a crappier version. This is without a doubt the best version of Frank Vinci's early 90s CBS NFL theme.
Tyler Nersinger CBS radio sports continued to use this theme well into the 2000's on their national radio broadcasts of Sunday and Monday night NFL games.
@@HitsTownUSA I thought it was westwood one who continued to use this music
TM557- Aze yes it was. It’s was CBS radio sports broadcasts under contract to broadcast via Westwood one is my understanding
@@HitsTownUSA I knew that westwood ones broadcast of super bowl 35 used this theme
Big Time Aze Westwood One = essentially the radio arm of CBS Sports since the mid 2000s. Westwood One used Postumous Zone as its NFL theme song until a few years ago, after CBS Radio has previously used both it and this theme
2 names forever engraved in this music:
Pat Summerall and John Madden
They were on Fox. They had nothing to do with this music
And CBS before then
@@Transporter_Not_Statham yeah but I'm pretty sure it was before this music. I could be wrong
It was my childhood. Sad when CBS’s time with NFL was up and they were without jobs for a while. That’s when FOX picked them up
@@adamhout4271 This (‘98) is a different version of the theme that originated earlier in the decade specifically ‘92-‘93 when pat & john were still at cbs, cbs then lost nfl cov in ‘94 (thus losing pat & john) but stuck w/ the theme when it got nfl back in ‘98 w/ some alterations and that’s what u hear here
"Chargers are rushing all 11. Snap and set down good, ball is on the way, it's hit hard...It's good! The Cardinals win, and they go to the playoffs, on a 52 yard field goal!"
Don Criqui, Sun Devil Stadium 1998, The Arizona Cardinals playoff curse ends
I love this old opening. Both the music and graphics were cool. They worked so we'll together.
I would love CBS to bring back this theme.
Bring back this theme for the new decade!
May you RIP, Jim. At least we'll have this to remember you.
This will always be the best Sunday afternoon football theme
1991-1993. Sheesh!!! So many memories. When they brought this back in 1998....was like being a teenager again.
CBS needs to bring this version back. So much better than the current one. This is classic.
Not even close to better than the current one, the current one is way better.
The 92-93 NFC theme was WAYYYYYYYY better.
@@tigernike23 That’s because the NFC was the best Football Conference👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
I have been looking for this theme clean version for like forever. I thought this was CBS Best Theme for the NFL, Thank you so much for finding it clean Im going to post this on Frankie Vinci(composer of this theme) Facebook page
This theme and pots and pans cbs themes was on fire
What a GREAT theme tune!
Reminds me so much of the NFL in the 90's..
Bring it back to CBS Sports, CBS?
best intro theme in sports imo. so befitting of the sport its being played for. The undertones and desperation mixture, idk, im not an artistic dude, but this is laymans art to me.
As much as I like the current NFL on CBS theme, this theme is better to me.
This version is better than the current one
This was just the 1992-93 Intro, but remade with better audio
this brings me back to sitting on the couch with my dad and my uncle getting ready to watch the Fins!
If any video deserves zero dislikes, it's this one for certain.
You're crazy
Just makes me think of ol skool AFC Football mostly😂. My childhood every Sunday😪
Now this here!!!
Cowboys and 49ers NFC Championship Games👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
This makes me think of when the lions were good
CBS should’ve kept this theme song!
Wilton George You're right. And like the old saying goes. If it ain't broke don't fix it.
I actually associate this with the radio most recently. This is (or was at my last listen) the theme for the NFL on Westwood One radio network.
Whenever I hear this intro theme I think of Elway. The relic underdog hero taking the field.
when football was real football
I'm assuming your talking about before the qb became overprotected.
because there are so many great QB's that we can afford them to take unnecessary hits
aldfjak football is violent but shouldn't be dirty with unneccesary hits being allowed
+Jason Case you're correct
+Jason Case And some hits like below the knees is very dangerous.
I'm glad CBS brought this theme back when in 98 they regain broadcast rights to air The NFL...but now mainly AFC match ups.
This should be used for Big Ten on CBS beginning in 2024.
YES! A modern version of this theme for Big Ten football would be so cool
This will forever be my favorite NFL theme :) I still think Thursday Night Football is epic though but this is the best of the best!
The newest nfl on CBS sing with the glass breaking since I think 2014 Is topnotch.
It has a kind of fast Rock and roll sound.
nfl on fox theme is the best of all time
Kevin D not really try listening to nfl TNF (2014)
This has to be used now days like why not?
CBS needs to bring this theme back. it sounds much more Grand and Triumphant compared to the current theme. it also sounds much more cbs based
1998 will always be the last great NFL season
Really the exact same music as the 1992-1994 version, just a little more synth added and the guitars removed. But the exact same melody as 1992-1994, unlike the totally remixed 1999-2002 themes.
Those weren’t all that different either. It wasn’t a completely different theme until 2003.
NFL on CBS theme (1998). Used until the 1998 AFC Championship Game..
Way better than the current, and the current isnt even bad. But this is art.
Much better than the crap they use now.
1:44 that hits so different and so good
after some thought, I think CBS needs to bring this theme back.
This reminds of Christmas break in high school
This sounds like a superhero theme.
This theme was so 1990s
The NHL should switch to CBS and have this theme.
This Is The Best Nfl On Cbs Theme Of All Time.
CBS!!
Cbs Should Have Kept This As The Theme For The Nfl On Cbs.
Reminds me of Parcells coaching the Jets
I loved the score graphic when both team logos get closer & closer
Top 10 Anime Openings (but for real, the only way for the NFL on CBS to come back; with an absolute bang!)
The Glory days of Pro Football I was in High school at the time damn good memories 😏🥹👍🏽
This theme song reminds me of Vikings losing the nfc title to the falcons yet I still have a love hate relationship with them.
Um ... didn’t Fox do that game?
@@williamkanejr3233 yeah that is correct yet I hate there theme song. It has no heart like this one.
This theme blows away the ES Posthumus Zone. Both CBS and Fox need new football themes. I have never heard this version in the clear, awesome.
No it doesn't. and CBS and Fox don't need new themes. They're better off with their current themes.
This theme reminds me of when Doug Flutie was the QB of the Buffalo Bills. And all of the teams in the AFC East, except the Indianapolis Colts, made the playoffs that year (1998). Meanwhile in Indianapolis, a young QB from Tennessee named Peyton Manning was starting his career. And John Elway won his second Super Bowl before retiring after.
Reminds me of when I first started watching football. When the Seahawks were in the AFC and playing the Chiefs, Chargers, Raiders, and Broncos.
I really like this NFL On CBS 1998 Themes.
Hello friends this is Jim Nantz along with Phill Simms, and we welcome you to Texas Stadium in Irving Texas for the right to go to the Superbowl with the periennial playoff team the Same Francisco 49ers vs the upstart Dallas Cowboys who have the young but very talented big3 on offense with Aikman the playmaker, and emmit Smith leading this young talented team.
Now can you please upload the 2001 version of The NFL on CBS theme in full? (without all that commentary), the 2001-02 theme was the best one!
0:23 to 0:58 [cuts in to Ian Eagle's voice abruptly] ...preseason and for the first time since 1989, the RCA Dome is sold out for a home opener. Our matchup from the AFC East; it's the Miami Dolphins and the Indianapolis Colts. A new era begins today in Indy; and it begins with that man. Peyton Manning takes the next step to the professional level. And moments ago the curtain rose on a young leading actor that will be part of a rather intriguing three hour drama here today. Peyton Manning in his NFL debut.
I really miss NFL on CBS Theme.
Anybody else think this melody sounds similar to the NHL on ESPN music?
Junior Seau was in the intro...rip
RIP to Dwight Clark as well.
That beginning is such a warming welcome.
This song says that these ain't football players going out to play football games on the field these are gladiators going out to do battle in the Roman god-damned colosseum!
What an awesome theme this was! I hate the lame, stupid theme CBS has been using since 2003!
Sounds like a great theme for Superman
The Chiefs are swept by the Broncos first time since 1991 Terrell Davis 6000 yards in his career. Coming up next 60 minutes except on the west coast
The late 90’s. The beginning of the Peyton Manning era for the Colts and I watched it on CBS!
This has been a presentation of CBS sports!!!
The theme of the grand return of CBS to NFL broadcasting
Finally!
Bring back Frank Vinci ! 👍🏻🇺🇸
This theme reminds me when I began volunteering at the Jaguars games
Wow this is amazing
Lets go to Jim Nantz for an update
Bring it back 2020
Parts of this sound like the music used in the Lord of the Rings/Hobbit movies.
Will Become The Premier League Music
Very cool Sports themes.
Jim Williams I “1,000,000%” agree with you.
All I could think of when I hear this theme music is... Ryan Leaf 😡
Kuya C.J. Cap Guy RIP
0:00-0:20 This makes me think of The SML YTP Series Getting a theme like this one
huh?
Did you lost your mind or something Stevie?
@@thenumberjuanyoutuber2412 No i'm not you.
Oh I was just checking on you
But read my Comment
I remember watching this opening right before I was about to watch Barry Sanders run all over the field.... THOSE WERE THE DAYS!!!
And to think that this would be his last season too!
Why did they get rid of this theme....this shit slaps
I can hear "I'm Ken Squier and welcome to the Great American Race, the Daytona 500" over this just a bit.
