    Thank you for the great video! I've had my 2005 Cayanne for about 5 years now and it has to be one of the most reliable vehicles I have ever owned- like any vehicle, just keep track of scheduled maintenance. I have always used Mobil 1 5w 30 (Texas weather) have never had any issues. I've seen different videos with the V8 Cayanne that has 2 oil drain plugs

    I use a scrap piece of cardboard as a drip catcher for the filter. It keeps oil off the suspension and steering gear.

    In the filter housing is a drain. Undo the the drain in the housing with a 6mm Allen. Once it drains then remove the house. Make much less of a mess.

    Thanks for taking time to do this. I just purchased a 2004 Porsche Cayenne 3.2 and have been looking how to change the oil. I was wondering why you didn't drain the filter using the drain plug?

      Michael L Your welcome, and thank you for taking the time to comment. I didn't use the drain plug because I wanted to save time and really it is not that bad as long as you have a catch can big enough (mine was a bit small). Next time I probably will use it though, would have made a little less mess I'm sure :) Be sure to subscribe if you want to see more videos on the Cayenne, I'm planning a tranny oil / filter change as well and I'll be using Durametrics to monitor temperatures. I also may do a Durametrics video as well just b/c there is not a lot out there on them, but only if people want to see that stuff, thanks!

      Thanks for getting back. I will subscribe, finding how to's for the 3.2 seems to be difficult. I will definitely be interested in watching.

    Nice video. Did you have to change the drain plugs or the seal on those drain plugs?

    This may sound like a dumb question but should you check the oil when the engine is cool, or a few minutes after it's been running at operating temp? I'm seeing different answers for other generations and engines, but I can't find any info on this gen and motor, and I have no owner's manual.

    L Bandara Hi, it won't let me reply directly to your comment so I hope you see this. You can not reset the service now light without a tool like your dealer has. Now they are a fortune so you are left with 2 options: To take it to the dealer and let those thieves charge you 100 bucks to turn off the annoying indicator, or purchase a cable from Durametrics which is what I did. It costs about 300 bucks but you can interface with the special Porsche computer for diagnostic and turn off that annoying light, hope this helps.

      You were supposed to remove the hex nut on the filter housing to drain the oil filter first so there is no mess.

    Awesome, thanks! You are definitely filling a void on Cayenne maintenance vids. I will watch every one that you make for certain. A Durametrics video will be great. I imagine that if one wants to service their own Cayenne as much as possible, it would be necessary to access the diagnostics computer. Do you agree ? Do you think it is just a nice-to-have or a necessity ? I have never serviced any German vehicle - just my Toyota and Lexus. And I'm a novice. Thanks again for the vid! I subscribed because I'm interested in Cayenne maintenance vids.

      +ropehitch Hi, yes Durametrics is necessary IMO and it is your cheapest route. It is an amazing tool. I'll try to make a video soon of it. Your also in luck b/c I just finished filming the full transmission fluid and filter change procedure. There is a reason Porsche charges 1000 bucks lol, but it is doable and I got it all on film. I'm just in the process of trying to get it edited and my turbo web series is taking a lot of my time, but I'll get it up as soon as possible. Another thing of interest is am also going to be starting a new web series called "House of 9's" that follows a master Porsche mechanic at his small independent shop, hopefully we will begin filming in a few weeks, thanks for being a subscriber.

      OK, I'll wait patiently for the transmission vid and hopefully a Durametrics vid in the future. Even a simple, quick vid to start with would be very enlightening. Mostly I'm into the DIY on a cayenne or macan for practical reasons but the House of 9's project sounds like fun, too. I'll check it out.

    Thanks for sharing the video. It is really useful. Could you please tell me the name and part number of the tool you used to unscrew the oil filter? Thanks a lot!

    Does the Cayenne need to have the engine splash guard installed? I run my pickup without it (I know different vehicle) with no issues. These underneath jobs would be much faster without having to take off and replace the engine splash guard but I know on the Audis you have to keep them on

    • @RubberDuc
      @RubberDuc  2 года назад

      That is a good question, not sure on the answer. I have heard before that the splash guard also aids in cooling, but not sure if that is accurate or not.

    Do you have videos for the 955 4.5L twin-turbo? I imagine that the oil change procedure is quite similar.

    Do you need to put oil in the oil filter?

    • @RubberDuc
      @RubberDuc  9 лет назад +1

      Basi Tasi Hi, that is always a debate (on all cars not just Porsche) but this is the way I look it at. The car was run within an hour of changing the oil so all the internal parts are coated with synthetic oil. Because of this fact I don't tend to worry about filling the filter because it is a messy pain. Not to mention it is not like a regular oil filter, you could only fill up to the top of the cap which is about 1/3 of the filter length at most which wouldn't do you much good IMO. If you had let the car sit there for several days without running it first and then changed the oil I would probably try to fill it because there would be no protection on the parts but other than that I don't worry about it.

    Does anyone know how to reset the service message without external tools?

    • @RubberDuc
      @RubberDuc  6 лет назад +1

      On a few models there was a reset procedure that works for some people, would never work for me here is a link to the forum:
      rennlist.com/forums/porsche-cayenne-forum/500634-service-now-reset.html
      Let me know if that works for you, if it doesn't you would probably need Durametrics.
