    Great video. I am tempted to do my own oil change next time. Last week I had a terrible experience. Took my 2016 Cayenne to my trusted mechanic. The gut did a mistake. He thought it was a Cayenne Turbo and added 9 quarts. Well since the car is a rental, I didn't know till my client brought it back with a check engine and a message oil overflow. Car was jerky. Car ran around 900 miles with 9 quarts. Luckily I had an honest mechanic and admitted the mistake. They repaired the car changing PCV valve and head cover. And it is back to normal. No further damage at least for now. This video makes it very clear and I will attempt the oil change next time Thank you Aaron.

      It's really not hard. Only "difficult" part is the fact you'll need to reset the service interval via the OBD port. Other than that, it's just a normal oil change.

    I used 7 quarts of oil and that was the perfect amount. 2017 cayenne 3.6 V6 engine. Thanks for the video!

      I seen another post say that there are 2 drain plugs. Is that in fact true? I'm thinking on doing my brothers car to save him some money since I'm fairly good at cars, but have never done a Porsche before.

    Just for everybody knows that Castrol EDGE 5W-30 LL (gold color bottle, Not the black one) is VW 504/507 compatible. Porsch c30 and VW 504/507 compatible are printed on the back side of the bottle. It is not available in Walmart store. But it is available online in Walmart for $28 5 qt bottle. Buy two bottles you get free shipping. Besides, I double checked the Audi oil list, castrol edge g 0521951bdsp is listed on the first of 504/507 list.

    I detest going to dealerships, they're more interested in up selling service and parts than professional work. Like yourself I learned how to do much of the routine maintenance myself and I found a skilled mechanic to do the difficult repairs. Great video thanks.

    Fantastic video! I just purchased a 2018 Base model Cayenne with 25,300 miles on it. Its the same color combination as the one in the video. I do almost all of my own maintenance and out of supersitious habit, probably change my oil too frequently. I drove a previous vehicle for 265,000 miles and changed my oil every four months. I'm now looking forward to my first oil change!

      Nice, it's actually not a very difficult procedure Only real "problem" is the maintenance reset which Porsche makes unnecessarily cumbersome.

      The correct way to change the oil, whether or not that particular dealership does it, could involve pouring a few quarts in after the oil has been drained-to help clear out any debris that could still remain.

    My owners manual in section called “Filling capacities” says a base Cayenne uses 7.29 quarts or 6.9 liters.
    You need to install a dipstick. Easy job and well worth knowing the amount of oil added instead of waiting 30 minutes of 1.5 quarts low.

    Thanks for sharing something that should be a straightforward task. As a current VW owner I know the quirks of oil and DSG services but not Porsche not providing oil capacity in the owners manual is shameful. Like you I feel more confident performing my own fluid changes if possible vs.relying on the B team to perform the task. Will research other services online before deciding to purchase a Cayenne.

      @aaronstestlab  4 года назад +1

      I couldn't believe it either. But I scoured that manual and couldn't find the capacity. Truth being told, I was kind of hoping someone would watch this video and comment "oh, it's on page xxx". But so far, no dice, lol.

    Great video. With a new filter 7qt is a safe start in my experience and you can add up to half qt. But some reported in forum that if you go 7.5qt or more during cold season the condensation build-up may cause the sensor telling you have too much oil. Porsche did a recall but I suspect all they did was making the sensor less sensitive to sugarcoat you always have the right amount of oil. Love to hear what others' experiences are. For Cayenne hybrid your oil filter is longer, e.g. Mann Filter Mann HU 7029z

    Good video! I changed oil on my wife 2017 Cayenne since she bought it new in 2017. It took 7.1 Qtz Mobil 0W-40 synthetic from Walmart and oil filter from Porsche’s dealership
    They charged me $900 to programmed the tow hitch which I installed myself
    What a ripped off!

    Thanks for the video. Very helpful. As far as the oil filter housing drain plug goes. Is there a torque spec for this plug? I see it screws into a brass insert so I have to assume it's pretty low. Is there a spec for this?

    Nice video! How do you like your vehicle so far any problems with it? I wonder if there is an app to scan/code a Porsche instant of a scan and reset tool.

    • @aaronstestlab
      @aaronstestlab  3 года назад +1

      One major problem, the transfer gear went bad at 45K. Was replaced under warranty. Other than that, it drives fantastic and is overall a great vehicle.
      So, there are a couple of app-based scan/diagnostic tools available, the most common one I see is the "BlueDriver Bluetooth Pro OBDII" - amzn.to/2QcMvNR (associate link). It's got great reviews, but from what I can tell is unable to reset maintenance indicator lights. That said, because it's app-based, that functionality might come down the line.

    Hi this is an awesome video. I had the exact same issues with my Touareg. But you didn't show the install of the filter and housing. It's a total pain in the ass because you have to somehow assemble them before screwing into the engine and the transfer case housing blocks your access. WTF. I couldn't figure it out. I improvised and pressed in the top of the filter round thingy in the engine and then screwed the filter housing over the filter. Seems to be ok. But I may have mangled the plastic tabs on the bottom of the filter. Also fyi the oil filter and housing is the same as my 2012 Touareg with the 3.6 engine. I searched for hours looking for a Touareg diy and they all showed some other filter/housing design.

      Good luck. Aside from the scan/reset tool which is a one time purchase, the process isn't that much different than any other vehicle. Considering the dealer wants $400 and I've now used it 3 times, it's paid for itself.

    Would you use a fluid evacuator?

    • @aaronstestlab
      @aaronstestlab  5 лет назад

      Since the Cayenne doesn't have a traditional dipstick, I don't think one of those would work. Furthermore, you'd still need to get under the vehicle to change the filter, so I'm not sure what effort you'd be saving even if you could figure out a way to snake an evacuation line down to the pan.
