- So a good friend of mine brought his jeep over to my shop and he just had a clutch and a throw out bearing put inside it unfortunately it did not need any of that. And to be perfectly honest with you I may have diagnosed at the exact same way. I don’t think I would’ve took the steps that I take in this video to check the things that needed to be checked and I have often heard of the dealer doing the exact same thing and Recommending a new clutch and throw out bearing I honestly thought that’s what the problem was till I put it up on the lift , I thought the gentleman had done the work in properly so for you Jeep patriot 2007 to 2017 owners with a manual transmission you need to watch this video if you’re hearing noises from underneath your car. Or if you own a 2007 to 2017 jeep compass this is also the same problem and you need to check at the exact same way. This was the exact problem with my 2012 Jeep Patriot, dealership wanted ~ $3K to replace the whole transmission and another $3k of labour. After doing some digging and listening (just like you did here) I figured it was one of these bearings. A few Saturdays later I got it out an it's whirring when it spins.
Great video. Wish i could post this on a screen in front of every Dodge/Jeep/Chrysler dealership, what a piece a junk vehicle, and what a scam to get it replaced.
I replaced them without pulling the transmission out. Busted up the cage around the balls and modified a cheap two jaw puller to fit inside. Easy 30 minute task.

Dude...for the first time in my life I can verify you are wrong on that one, I posted the video on how to pull that bearing without removing the transmission, it can be done by removing that cover, the bearing cost me $80 on ebay and took me a couple hours to complete, my video was less than a minute showing how I did it....eezy peezy
Well I’m glad you were able to do it it didn’t seem possible to me but I’m not right about everything so good for you.
This would certainly not be the first time that I was wrong by the way and I learn something new every day
The bearing cost $100 you remove that plate use the bearing puller have to destroy the bearing pull it out and press a new one into place. You don’t have to move the transmission 1 inch.

Nice a mechanic shop did me dirty like this got my vehicle back they fixed the wrong thing broke down an hour after I got from them spent 3,000

The Clay Way ya know they don’t want to refund my money back they kept beating around the bush every time I asked them what they wear working on and I have a loan through the bank on the vehicle and still owe 6,800 I don’t know what to do can’t transport my kid and all the grocery stores are at least 200 miles away from where I live

Did you get around to dropping the transmission? I was told no shop would touch it because of a very expensive special tool. Has to go to a dealer.
No it really isn’t. You can get the bearing out with a slide tool. This guy has no clue

Generally the bearing comes with the clutch kit. And regretfully my best advice I can give you is just to look on the Internet. That’s probably going to be your most inexpensive option
But if you want to get it from a great part store call A C I in Grand Rapids Michigan tell them that the Clay Way sent you and they will give you a discount.
