    For me at least with owning a new GR86, one thing that kind of scares me is the RTV problem with the oil pan. Most cars probably won't have this issue if you don't floor it everywhere and treat it nicely, but one thing I want to do is to drop the oil pan and to replace the RTV. And also knowing that Toyota / Subaru aren't the easiest to deal with just in case that the engine does experience failure, makes me want to do it that much more.

    My advice would be if you get a new enough one to go get a warranty from the dealer. When stuff goes bad it gets expensive.

    My first car, I’ve owned it for 8 months, rattles and pops from worn suspension, wallowed out ball joints, missing fender liners, splash guard is on with a zip tie, wiring issue on the front right side and problem with the front right lights, mold growing in the back seats, water in the alternator and on the battery from driving while it was raining, corrosion on the battery and spark plugs, big gap in the front bumper, front grille cover fell off while driving because the clips all wore out and broke

    Honestly the stock gear fluid in the transmission and differential is kind of a joke. I would say regardless of if it’s fresh off the lot or has a few thousand miles on it, swap it for quality MOTUL gear 300 oil.

    You missed key points the bolts on these cars should always be replaced they stretch so easy and shouldn't be reused. The front seals on the cams and oil dip stick like to go bad he oil pans like to leak. 2nd gear issues , the horrible oem tune where it has the car almost die at 500-400 rpm when you down shift to neutral coming up to a stop

    • @ernestmuric6719
      @ernestmuric6719 6 месяцев назад

      Use 5w 30 every change. My club mates and mechanics always use this oil in 86's . Ask around and alot of youtube 86 drivers recommend. Some use 0w 20 recommend in Japan. But Japan is colder half the year. Oh and I live in hot Australian state 7 mths the year.

    I was surprise my FRS on 60K miles and no big maintanance to do😳 I ask twice the service personnel and ask the tech if theres any but mostly I have once a yr change oil and few battery changes as it was not good. Mine is stock only and no plan of upgrading parts as I’m gonna move to MK5 platfprm later on other than change oil and filter changes I have no issues with FRS RS1 trd.I will let them check the spark plug if thats
    one of the weak point you mention other than than
    flush of coolant at 200kmiles? I dont thinkk I would reach tha much befpre I move to MK5.

    How about the frs having silicone in the oil pick up and the Berings breaking at 100,000 because of lack of oil do to the oil pick up ?????it’s a pretty big problem that no one talks about my car has rod knock on cylinder 3 because of this problem everyone that I know here in fl that have the frs have Upgraded to a killer bee pick up ands found silicone or had rod knock and now are upgrading it now
    Is this a real problem with the fa20 or is it a Toyota building a Subaru motor and do you guys correct it on your short blocks because I’m buying one

      Best of luck in the future. These fa 20 boxer engines are a lucky dip of problems the higher you go in klms or miles. Mine started leaking on timing cover at 50,000 klms. Common problem on these.
