Every moment with Cloud and Aerith in Rebirth is just bittersweet. Just like the line in "Hollow", "with your every smile hiding something more, dark mysteries lurking beneath..." Aerith has a lot of things she carries inside her. But is always choosing to smile.

Aerith's date is very good though, especially in golden saucer, how it links to the main story. Like when she say "i've been trying so hard to find you", and this topic being brought up in the forgotten capital forrest, in there she said "just focus on ur self cloud, focus on searching the real you".

- in game there's a trophy achievement called reunion with the picture of cloud and aerith's hand intertwined.

this also ties to costa del sol, when you acept the first quest, the banter between aerith and cloud she asks him what would be his perfect date, and he replies walking, and that he is no romantic, and this is what they are doing, spending time toguether, walking,his perfect date, as a last goodbye from future aerith,that his aerith said he would love.
its also very sad, because this future aerith is the OG or AC version, and she never did those things with her cloud originaly,like when she says they never got a picture toguether, and guess what, his aerith does just that in the canyon, OG/AC aerith also get confirmation for the first time that cloud loves her in that church final meeting, in the japanese version cloud says, its the place of memories,it was easy i dont have many, and aerith says, why dont you make some from here, and cloud replies, that is what i meant,this is when she realize he loved her.
there is no reunion trophy, remake has reuinited, but it the church card, the trophy with hands is the world something in rebirth.
@@bladerj That's only in the English translation though. In the original Japanese and other languages, the trophy for Rebirth chapter 14 is 'Reunion'.
As someone new to the series entirely, I found cloud and aeriths relationship to be very close and feel very natural. I’m not sure if this was intentional or maybe I put my own views of romance onto the characters but this was my very fresh take on this relationship. It’s sweet, it’s innocent and it goes deeper than the surface.

Clerith has been canon since 1997: Aerith plays Rosa in 4 of the 6 dates & is Rosa in the credits & makes the most sense narratively & Aerith’s date has been default & canon since 1997

Such a bad translation in photograph scene . Photogragh said that Aerith is about yo cry , and thats why he didnt take a photo( not because they look like in funeral😂) And thats why Cloud asked again , what is going on. She knows its their last moments together ....
Yeah some of the choices they made with the translation doesn't fit as well as it could.
I don't think the localisation is that bad there. Because the meaning is basically the same still: Aerith is sad and trying too hard to make the best of their last date, because she knows that she is going to die and this is their last time together.

In the original story, Aerith dies, so it can not be Canon
So when two people love each other and one of them dies, that means they are not a cannon couple? What kind of logic is that? Think about all of the scenarios in life, movies, stories, etc of when two people that love each other are separated because of death. An example would be the movie Titanic. Rose and Jack are the cannon couple in that movie right? Even though Jack dies in the end to save Rose from freezing in the water?

@@777clara Just research all the dev quotes, other publishing's such as ulitmania's, FF7 anniversary's, FF7 advertisements, other games, all sorts of hard evidence throughout the past going on almost 30 years, not to mention the OG itself. Remember Clerith is number one love pairing in the OG. You'd have to intentionally go through extra effort to be mean to Aerith and nice to Tifa to get date with Tifa because she's not first choice, but only an alternate. The heartbreak and sadness of their story wouldn't make sense otherwise, about a love unspoken between two people, words left silent, opportunities lost, then it was too late.

By default (without play influence) Aerith has the higher affection score at 50, which is top out, and Tifa's only 30. Thus just like the gondola date with Tifa, the Highwind cutscene with her is only based on player's extra efforts, not based on Clouds natural choice. Any player that received Tifa's scenes, had to choose her 20+ extra times to get past Aerith.

Cloud is unreliable. And cloud never said “I love you” nor does he go for a kiss, unlike the tifa date scene.
But i agree, there can be something to be said how he says… “next time.” I’m not sure what he said in the Japanese version so I’ll take your word.
It’s also worth noting aerith didn’t SAY “Il Iove you romantically.” She said there’s a difference between liking and like.
Does aerith mean “I know where we stand.” Does she mean that she realizes Cloid will be with tifa? Or that cloud isn’t the one she truly wants? Is it about how cloud WOULD have gone on dates with her and they had time? Or is that cloud would always be a friend?

Still liked it even as a cloti fan, I understand the charm of this pairing.
I loved the Remake/Rebirth...and one of the things I think was best done was the relationship between Aerith and Cloud. There's a chemistry/magic between them that doesn't exist in any other relationship in the game. I was rooting for them in Rebirth. Although there are some great scenes between the two... for some reason Square doesn't give us a resolution between the two. I know that the theme/music of the game is a love song in which Aerith expresses her feelings for Cloud, but during the game there are only moments of "almost" between the two.... almost-kiss, almost-confession, hugs between the two, the two holding hands... but there is never the "conclusion/resolution" that many want to see.
Why does Square do this?
So I'm a bit sad about this situation... part 3 doesn't leave me very hopeful that Aerith and Cloud will somehow get together.
aerith is hiding from death, right? and like zack, in every universe fate comes to them. by inviting cloud, this aerith risks getting seph as well.

That’s why I love their story so much. Do I want them to reunify hell yes.
That said they are so star crossed lovers, the one that got away and never meant to be in the end because of the burden they have to bare for the whole big picture. It’s just so sad but beautiful if you ask me.

I really think that cloud and Aerith really are a cute couple. I'm still trying to figure out exactly what aerith said at least I know where you and I stand
I think its deliberately ambiguous, because this is actually the "bad" version of the date. It's just one line, but if you had the date with Aerith at the Gold Saucer, when Aerith asks him about "next time" at the church, with high affection, he'll turn to her and say "Yeah, next time" which will make her smile, while here he's kinda off handed about it without even looking at her, and she seems a bit saddened.
So the line basically works whether she sees that he's really into him or not, she knows where they stand romantically even though either way she still likes him.

This part of the game struck my heart and emotional strings. So much was going on. You go from cloud being used from sephiroth losing it to cloud waking up and seeing aerith die seeing her for the last time physically. In between you have the dreams and alternate reality packed with emotions and alot happening. This dream and alternate reality scene and cloud gradually coming back to is what makes it so emotional. This is cloud losing it falling unconscious seeing aerith for the last time in the dream and then waking up right before aeriths death.
I feel like Aerith carries all the cuteness. Cloud's more of a "I can't believe I'm doing this" kind of thing.

Aeirth knowing she will be gone and just showing her gratitude to cloud. Not sure if i will called love since what she said liking and there is liking meaning different things.
My personal head canon for Ff7 is that Tifa is Clouds first love. Once he meets Aerith,he falls for her and is broken by her death and it is Tifa that saves him from going to the deep end and that's why she becomes his future. Thats why, in a way Cloud loves them both. Tifa is his past and future and Aerith was his tragedy.
Too bad then that Cloud only has a continuing platonic friendship with Tifa, and nothing more.
Cloud and Tifa never end up together. They are friends living together and they have separate bedrooms. Even Barret lives with them.
Tifa openly asks Cloud if he loves her but Cloud doesn't even bother answering. Instead he was thinking about Aerith at that very moment.
Also Dirge of Cerberus game manual calls Cloud and Tifa as childhood friends. They are not in a romantic relationship.

The way I've always seen it, Cloud has always been in love with both Tifa and Aerith. Aerith's always brought out more of his character and lovingly poked and prodded at him. But his relationship with Tifa is more connected and intimate (and obviously because there's more of a future there). But I should give Tifa more credit as well, especially after the mission with them turning into frogs. Cloud also acts more sly and charismatic when he's with Tifa. If I wasn't already a fan of their relationship, after this game, I am now.

I agree that Cloud is in love with them both. I see Tifa as sort of Cloud’s rock. Seeing her at the train station snapped him out of his catatonic state, she helps him piece his mind back together, and understands him. The way this game is going, it feels like Cloud will be with Tifa and Aerith will be with Zack in the after life or alternate world (whatever they decided to do with that)

It does beg the question…what would have happened if aerith survived? Ignoring the OBVIOUS perks for many fans that that three good hearted attractive people would be together in a loving three way relationship. let’s really think on it…especially if cloud truly does love aerith. It’s hard to say as aerith even says “I want to know you.” Meaning that they aren’t quite there ye in a way that tifa and cloud are or even Zach and aerith were.
But what now? To be honest I don’t think cloud or aerith or tifa could ever make make cloud choose. It’d be wrong. They’d know deep down he loves them both and they’d be too good as friends to ever intrude that.
@@bradhorowitz2765 There’s a lot to unpack with that. Another factor is how much of Cloud’s feelings towards Aerith are due to his physique taking over Zack’s who was head over heels for Aerith. Honestly, love triangles are created to get the audience more engage and clearly this is one of the bigger love triangles in fiction. The fact that Aerith has to die in order for the story just makes me think it was always Cloud and Tifa.

Aerith fell in love with Cloud before she met Tifa, so who's fault is it really? Not to mention, considering the credits of the game, it's not like Cloud canonically goes on a date with Tifa since the credits show Aerith date instead. That implies that Cloud doesn't have feelings for Tifa either. Tifa is, unfortunately, the third wheel in Cloud and Aerith's relationship.
Aerith also explicitly admits that she fell in love with Cloud and moved on from Zack. Her entire thing in Gongaga was to just find closure. If you remember Crisis Core, then you would remember that in Aerith's final letter, she essentially gave up on him. From her perspective he ghosted her for five years and then died.
I get that you like Zerith and Cloti but think about the events of the game from Aerith's POV. Poor Zack and all but Aerith wasn't aware that he was kidnapped. Even in the original 1997 game she assumed he found someone else. Why wouldn't she move on?
For one, ZACK is supposed to be DEAD for the past 5 years since Aerith was only a 16 year old kid. The devs said what she had with ZACK was "fleeting feelings", like "puppy love". Cloud, btw, is a free man, he's the one who chooses who he loves, or rather his heart chooses, which is Aerith - deeply.
