Thanks for the mascara "warning". Since March, I have actually gone back to a couple of drugstore brands. At first it was out of necessity, but now I actually like them better. Also, I don't mind tossing them more often.

With expensive wallets and card holders I’d only get black because they won’t show as much dirt. I got one of those ysl card holder with zipper what, 3 years ago now? Still looks brand new. I don’t even want to get something else because it holds up so well and is so convenient.
so true I have an YSL cardholder and it still looks new I think it is about 5+ years now. Great quality.

Personally, I love my Chanel cardholder. It’s caviar and black- so it shows no wear despite me not being very careful. I was considering selling it for extra money during these times and was getting quoted above retail for it.
I agree about other SLGs, especially phone cases. I’m always amazed at people thinking they’re a good deal!
I really want a Chanel cardholder. I can't afford a classic quilted bag so the cardholder is more affordable for me and I get something from Chanel. And it's useful.
Basically SLGs are for people who have “eff you” money and don’t care about cost vs value.

I feel like people who buy SLGs are people who reallllly just want a luxury item but cant justify a whole bag, so they get an SLG. Then later realize a bag was a better idea.
Sarah Chaudhari Yes, Or like Sophie has said before, they can’t wait to save more and really want to purchase SOMETHING so they purchase the cheapest thing the brand produces. But some items are so similarly priced that a potential buyer might as well wait.
Hmm.. I bought two slgs last year b/c of the series for elements that Dior came out with. I practice astrology and so Dior is kinda an obsession for me. But by no means was it fu money. 🌞

I totally agree! That’s why I don’t even fool with them! I have only 3 wallets, 1 cardholder, 2 makeup pouches, and 1 keychain. That’s it! Not buying anymore! They’re overly expensive and that money can go towards a purse.

Honestly, I have had a Coach card holder for over a year and it still looks incredible. And I got it on sale for $25!

I own a leather Nudie Jeans card holder, similar price, been using it for 8 years probably and it only looks beter as it ages.
Coach has amazing quality and free life time leather treatment, so definitely worth the money!

I’m totally agree with you! I stopped buying SLGs unless it’s very special! They don’t last, or you end up never use them. That’s really waste of money! I thought I have like 15 or sth, but turned out I have 27 SLGs, that’s crazy! 🤦🏼♀️ I could use the money to buy a bags ! I sold a lot of colour ones, kept mostly black! It’s more useful! PS: I remember when I was purchasing my last card holder from Chanel, a older lady came to me said YSL card holder have more reasonable price, I didn’t care back then! Now I think she is totally right! 😳

In terms of SLGs, I only have 1 card case from Tory Burch, 1 compact wallet from LV, and 1 clutch from YSL. That's it. I save the money to buy a proper luxury bag. The money you spend on 3 SLGs can be spent on 1 bag. My friends always ask me how I afford luxury bags - that's the reason!!
I love my Chanel wallet and card holder. I use them every day so they are definitely worth the price I paid for them. I won’t buy anymore because I feel like these are going to last me a long time. Now I’m saving for my matching classic flap.
I bought a Coach card holder for $100. It is beautiful, durable and stylish👌. I think I could have gotten it on sale, but I needed it fast. So, I bought it full-price. Well worth it. SLGs are super expensive for all the wear and tear they suffer🤔great video!

One of the things I love about the LV Neverful is that it does serve several purposes. Now that it comes with the pouch as well it’s very functional.
I’ve used my Neverful for an overnight away and in the evening just taken the pouch out and used it as a wristlet with cards, cash, phone, etc.
Also I can run to the stores and not have to take the whole bag. It’s nice and light and as it has the strap it’s a perfect sized wristlet. You can
also attach it to the inside of your bag. A little off topic but I love it for it’s multi function purpose and still not at a bad price.

I think lots of people are simply addicted to luxury logos and with restricted budget and no patience to save up for sth more important like a handbag , they buy the thirst " logo" thing they can afford . I like your promoting this " buy wisely a luxury item" .

This is actually a very useful informative price comparison for individuals who are thinking of buying their first piece of luxury. On what is practical use for every dollar spent vs what is assumed as entry level but not practical for use. Thumbs up!
I actually found this bundle from dior... I think it’s called “Diortravel travel kit” - it comes with a large zip pouch/clutch, a seperate zip pouch, a passport cover, card holder and a luggage tag. 5 seperate items all in one kit and the price is less than $1400.. sure a luggage tag is kind of pointless but it’s such a great buy (I feel) for your money!
Most of the smaller luxury items such as these reminds me of the dough hole in a doughnut. They look like they're made of excess materials (they probably are, I'm not sure) but the prices are unreasonable. I didn't even notice your mascara until you mentioned it in the comments, it's like you teared up from the overly wallets and card holders prices - you still look ten times better than you think. I bought a grey leather cardholder from a Gucci outlet, and it’d literally one of my best luxury purchases. I have been using it for 2 years now, and it doesn’t have any spots, scratches or discoulouring!
Love this video! I have wasted money on small luxury wallets and makeup bags in the past, not anymore! Now I get the best for my money and I don’t even use the wallets I do have. I use a cheaper Victoria secret wallet inside my luxury bags and I also use a Victoria secret makeup bag! I now have started investing in property w the extra money. Yes we love luxury! But I want the best for my money now.
Couldn’t agree more, I’ve never really been interested in SLG’s much, I’ll worry about them after I’ve collected all of the types/styles of bags on my “definitely” list. I have 1 medium size wallet, 1 small wallet (pink Bvlgari serpenti just like yours) & 1 small makeup pouch. I’m sure I can more than just make do with those while I’m saving for a few more bags.
Having said that, SLG’s can be a good way to test out a particular leather you may not be completely sure about before investing in a very expensive bag. There are a few pairs of shoes I’m grateful for purchasing in patent leather for instance, because now I know that it’s definitely not for me in any way & will never purchase anything in patent leather from any brand ever again. Using an SLG could have also taught me the same lesson.
Edit* I can also see the value in SLG’s if you absolutely fall in love with a particular seasonal collection & want something from it without buying a whole bag that you might not get much use out of.
I want to get the Louis Vuitton 6 key holder - but I went to an outlet and found a Kate Spade key holder for just 30 usd. Works just the same, and I’m happy that I have saved a lot for something that works just the same and without the glazing issue.
Lesson of the day: Chanel is stupid expensive lol
My first designer item was the Louis Vuitton key pouch that I use everyday as a wallet with my cards and house key (& it was 'only' €140) and I don't need any more SLGs (besides a makeup pouch maybe) so I'm saving for a bag now 😊

Well said! Couldn’t agree more!! I have a Coach leather card holder and the quality is superb, I’ve owned it for years yet the condition is remarkable. One certainly doesn’t need that much slg and make informed choices with money spending. Never understand why some youtubers own so many slg🤷🏻♀️
I have about 20 SLGs from Chanel, Dior, Prada, and YSL.
I agree with you that it's really not worth the money. However, I bought it just because I like it comparing to bigger bags.
Therefore, I do not agree with the idea of "people buying SLGs just because they want a luxury piece, yet do not have enough money, so they go for SLG instead."
I had an SLG from Dior once but sold it after a handful of uses as I could already see wear & tear on it. Years ago when I had Mulberry their purses seemed to need replacing every year, and they had the worst glazing imaginable. My Chanel caviar card holder is holding up well even though I way over stuff it, and all my SLGs from LV seem to be lasting an eternity. Sophie would love to see you do an episode on sunglasses if you get chance sometime xx
Hi Sophie, wow what an eye opener. I had no idea the difference in price was so close. I haven't bought any lux items this year, my hubby and I have been pooling our disposable cash, and we had our conservatory roof removed and a new real roof put on, it now could be an extension, we are having a new storm porch added. And lots of other things done, adding value to our home. Rather than buying a new bag that is going to sit in its box until I can find an occasion to wear it. Covid has certainly forced my hubby and I to get our priorities right

I have maybe 5 SLGs, but they are DAILY USE items, and I never need more than one of each because they are a huge waste of $$$, but for their uses, I love them.

Completely agree with what you said about cardholders! My very first designer purchase ever was a YSL cardholder that I'd wanted for years and couldn't afford to buy because of debt. Was finally able to afford it and 4 years later it's worn horribly. Scratches, scuffs, all sorts. Same with a Mulberry purse, despite it being grained leather. I don't regret the purchases at all because it was all I could afford and they were really special to me at the time, I never would've been able to save for a bag in the financial position I was in back then. But now I have more disposable income, I'll never buy a luxury SLG again, even though I get tempted to all the time because of how beautiful they are! x

I agree that saving for a bag is the more sensible thing to do and definitely support that mentality. For me, my lifestyle has actually shifted in the last few years and I hardly get any use out of the few luxury purses I own. I still want to have a few nice things to use so, funny enough, I’ve been putting more emphasis on the lower cost items: scarves (wool for winter, silk for spring), a wallet, WOC, etc. At the start of my interest in luxury goods, I avoided these items like the plague, knowing full well it was a relative rip off. I don’t know why my perspective has changed or why I don’t really carry luxury brand purses anymore. I suppose my preferences have changed and I no longer find value in carrying a purse worth more than what’s inside it. Lol. I think my next small goods purchase (not anytime soon) is a Gucci makeup pouch. I do appreciate how much it can fit and how classic it looks.

yesss, omg all these youtubers suggest getting the mini pouch and toiletry because they are great "junk" drawers in their purses, I got them and the mini pouch is too large for some of my purses and too little to use by itself since it can't fit my phone. I rather have gotten a purse instead of those two because unlike those rich girls, I can't afford to buy an expensive "junk" drawer -___-

I agree but I don’t find any use for pouches, maybe because I don’t own any lol. I use card holder & key holder every day but I buy ONE and use it until I’m done and buy another. I say save your money for the bags you want!!

Couldn't agree more, I personally don't see the hype when it comes to small leather goods. I feel like once you own one designer cardholder, you own them all because they're pretty much always the exact same shape. Louis Vuitton toiletry pouches are great SLG's because they're perfect for nights out

For 560 I can get a new phone... I don't think SLGs are something you buy to resell unless they're a collectors item, or that they're something you need a lot of. For me they're more of a. practical piece, you buy one, you use it and bear the wear of it. I appreciate the cuteness and all the beautiful colours they come in, I love seeing them on instagram but I wouldn't keep buying them. I like a good quality one, I have a botega cardholder that's in a great condition and I've had for 5 years and a botega hold all/key pouch which I've had for about 8 and is almost falling apart but I'll keep going with those until they absolutely need replacement. Then I'll keep the next one until it's done and so on.
I totally agree! Also we have to search for durable materials. For instance I avoid vernis leather or light colors because they wear faster. I rather buy coated canvas or dark color leather slgs so I know they would last longer. Thanks for all your advices😊☺️ stay safe!
Another problem with vernis leather in luxury is that they use low quality leather as it'll be " color-dyed " and then covered with a vernis layer to get this " shiny- plastic-y " effect and .... insanely overprice an item in the end .

I do agree, you don't need tons of card holders when you can save a little more and get a bag. I have a LV Card Holder & A Chanel Card holder in the black caviar leather. I tend to go with pieces that I know will wear well and I don't switch them out often. I have a full size Leather LV wallet and I've used it everyday for the past 3 years, except when I have small bags and I need a compact SLG. My wallet looks brand new. :)
Omg thank you for this! I believe SLG are for the super rich. ESPECIALLY phone cases. My first luxury wallet was a Tiffany blue YSL. waste of money because every color transferred. I bought a LV monogram with fun color on the inside and much better value.

I bought the Dior oblique saddle cardholder. 😱 I'm still justifying the purchase to myself, but it came with a long chain and it has loops in the back so that you can attach it to a belt. It's rather small for me to comfortably use it on the long chain without looking ridiculous, but I have used it often on a belt. That is the only reason I've kept it.
Just to add, I am totally in agreement with Sophie about SLGs. They are mostly overpriced and not great investments.

I purchased the LV Kirigami set then bought clear plastic fitted case for it that had attachments for a chain for the large pouch, instant cross body. Then I made liners for the medium and small with rivets on them so I can attach a small necklace to wear.
Totally agree with you Sophie! I love Chanel but the prices these days 🤦🏻♀️ I purchased the Dior pouch you showed with the images of the oblique Saddle bag and have used it so much during this time! Similar to your Gucci pouch I either use it inside a big bag or more frequently as a catch all errand bag for going to the shop! 🤍
i have been noticing brands are coming up with lots of mini goods, not sure if it is because of whats going on, but i guess it tricks people into thinking this is affordable, but then there is a practicality issue. hope i am making sense here, i made the mistake of buying the gucci super mini because i always wanted the experience of the gucci marmont, but as soon as i saw the super mini price i went for it and unfortunately i had to sell it for a lower price after a couple of wears...it started to crease and it was losing its shape so i learned my lesson!!
I recently sold a SLG that is pretty but lying around unused... then I realized with the money I could totally get a decent smaller designer bag by topping up just a little bit :)

Totally agree with your view on SLG! However, I don't think it's fair to compare significant price difference between Chanel and YSL, just look at the price of their bags, obviously a Chanel bag costs so much more than YSL. I guess in terms of brand positioning Chanel is just higher than YSL.

The kirigami is wonderful. I love my set and I’m actually using it right now. It’s been so nice to carry around instead of a bag when I only need a few items. I use the smallest as a card holder, the medium as a catchall, and the large is big enough to hold a Wallet, a key holder, hand sanitizer, lipstick, and more.
I only have the YSL monogram fragments card holder and the LV mini pochette as SLG. Much prefer bags and you only even need 1 wallet. It goes in your bag and no one sees it.
Do you think there are any luxury items that are truly timeless i.e. would last a lifetime and not become tacky, if so could you do a video on them and what to look for? love your videos xx
I got the Louis Vuitton Kirigami set last year and have gotten so much use for it! The smallest one is my cardholder, the middle one is great for going to the bar or a restaurant, just phone and cards, the largest one I’ve used as both a clutch and popped a chain in to use as a small crossbody bag.
I have a rose gold ridge wallet, and it works perfectly. It was 70 dollars, but it has more than paid for itself, and not a scratch on it.
I could never understand the appeal of many of the same SLG. why would you need more than one card holder? sounds like a pain in the butt to transfer the cards from one to another. great video as always Sophie
